Geneva Maxcene Hodges - September 04, 1940 - February 29, 2024

Departed: 02/29/2024 (Roscommon)
Obituary Preview: Geneva Maxcene Hodges, age 83 of Higgins Lake, MI, formerly of Lansing, MI, died on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at home in the presence and comfort of her family.
Maxcene was born on September 4, 1940, in Gleason, TN. Her rural hometown is where she learned to garden vegetables and grow the most beautiful flowers. In the early 1950s she moved to Lansing, MI, where she would later meet the love of her life, Terry Hodges. She married Terry on October 24, 1958, in Lansing. Together they raised three children and shared 65 wonderful years of marriage.
Maxcene and Terry loved to travel and discover new places. Following Terry’s retirement, they purchased a small trailer to travel throughout the United States and Canada, Alaska being amongst her favorite. Together they discovered St. George Island, FL, where they spent 22 years as snowbirds. It was there, as well as at her home in Northern Michigan, that she was able to enjoy her favorite pastime of birdwatching. She loved to watch birds at her feeders as well as their playfulness in the bird bath.
Maxcene was a woman of many talents. She was an accomplished knitter, crocheter and seamstress. She was also an amazing cook and baker. She was extremely generous and happy to share the fruits of her labor with those she knew. Her southern cooking was enjoyed by all at family gatherings and she was always sure to have an ample supply of M&M cookies prepared for visits with her grandchildren.
Maxcene had a strong faith with God. She was a member of a prayer group for over 30 years and delighted in ministering the people of St. George Island and Eastpoint, particularly the impoverished and underprivileged children. She volunteered at the local thrift store as well as donating Christmas gifts to the children of those areas. She and Terry became involved in mission work and helped those in need in the Midwest. They also were members of the Red Cross assisting the citizens of Michigan.
Maxcene had a true passion of helping others in need and had the ability to sense a wounded sparrow - a person feeling discouraged, lonely, or broken hearted. She had a unique attribute to comfort and provide hope to strangers. Maxcene is a true angel who will be extremely missed by those who loved her.
