Obituary Preview: Otho Neil Hopkins, Jr. 90, passed away Monday, January 30, 2023, in Waco. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, February 6, 2022, at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel.
He was born June 23, 1932, in Waco, Texas to Otha and Mary Evelyn Hopkins. Neil grew up in Waco and graduated from Waco High School in 1950. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force in 1956 and served for 3 years. He was Honorably Discharged in 1959, achieving the rank of First Lieutenant. He attended Baylor University, where he received a master’s degree in Geology
After graduating from Baylor, he began working for Texaco, Inc. as a Geologist. Neil worked there for 30 years, advancing to the position of Assistant General Manager of Texaco-White Plains, New York, and an Exploration Manager over Texaco Europe. During this time, he worked in Houston, Trinidad, West Indies, White Plains, NY, Malta, Portugal, and Saudi Arabia. He retired in 1991.
He was an Associate Member of Berachah Church in Houston at the time of his passing, joining the church in 1964.
Neil married Betty Lue Royals in 1951, in Waco and they were happily married for 72 years. He enjoyed playing golf at Cottonwood Creek, Senior Group, and many other courses overseas. He was an avid Baylor Bear fan, holding Season tickets to basketball, football and baseball games.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, James Hall; niece, Linda Sue Hall; nephew, William Combel; and several aunts and uncles.
Neil is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Richard Wayne Hopkins; daughter, Patricia Lynn Guthrie and husband, William; granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Guthrie (Patricia and William’s daughter); sisters, Harriet Hall, Marilyn McLemore and husband, Glenn, and Mary Combel; nieces, Lea and Cortnee; and nephew, James.

She is survived by her son, Dennis Lokey and wife, Melinda; grandchildren, Rhett Lokey and Chase Lokey; and brothers, Don Hurst and Bobby Hurst.

Obituary Preview: William "Bill" Bryant McMinn passed away January 6, 2023 at his home in Waco. He was born in Dallas to Bryant and Mildred McMinn, and was a loving son and brother, with a big heart. Bill graduated from Sunset High School and attended Baylor University. He owned and operated his own restaurant in Tyler. Some of his favorite things to do were fish and watch the Dallas Cowboys.
He is survived by his brother, Steve McMinn and wife, Karen and nephew, Stephen McMinn.

Obituary Preview: Betty Joyce Pack Eyerley, formerly of Austin, TX, met her heavenly father January 3, 2023, at the age of 91, in Waco, TX.
Betty was born May 12, 1931, in Waco, to Charles Leroy “Skinny” Pack and Eva Marie Rylas Pack. She grew up in Waco and attended Waco High, where she enjoyed playing the saxophone.
On September 11, 1950, she married her high school sweetheart, Moses Darwin “M.D.” Eyerley.
Along with raising her four daughters, Betty helped M.D. run their family business, and later worked for several Federal agencies. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, teaching Sunday school, and working as a church receptionist for Hyde Park Baptist Church.
Betty had a fun, quirky sense of humor. She participated in ballroom dancing, loved working crossword puzzles, and was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorn fan. But what she loved most of all was being with her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Pam Pappas and husband, Tom, Connie Harris and husband, Hal, Theresa Bonnet and husband, Rusty, and Brenda Banks and fiancé, Duwain Moody. Betty was known as Meemo by her seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express a special thank you to her private caretaker Vicki Sedillo, Elaine Spann with Visiting Angels, and the staff at Providence Village. “You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”   Psalm 16:11

Moises was born December 24, 1967, in Col Felipe Angeles, Zacatequas to Ezequiel and Rebecca Moreno. He grew up in Los Angeles, California. He began work for Quality Craftsmen as a carpenter, where he worked for 9 years. He enjoyed playing tennis and cooking out.
He later became involved in Ministry.  He was a member of the Iglesia Evangelica Cristiana Espiritual, where he served as a minister, preaching the word of God to many.
Moises married Ma Del Socorro Alvarado in 2008 in Las Esperanzas and they were happily married for 14 years.
He is survived by his wife, Ma Del Socorro; sons, Esau, Isai, Natanael, Uziel, Moises Jr., Eluid and Besai; and daughters Eunice, Delta, Febe and Arely.

She was born January 21, 1933, in Cisco, Texas to Albert and Blanche Blanton Cloud. Wanda grew up in Cisco, Texas, but moved to Waco, where she graduated from Waco High in 1950. After high school, she attended business college.
She married Robert “Bob” Ashley in Waco, Texas. They were happily married until he passed away in 1981. She enjoyed sewing, fishing, playing pool and 42, and random road trips. She was heavily involved in all the school and sporting events of her children.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Ashley; second husband, W.C. Kincannon; parents, Albert and Blanche Cloud; four brothers; one sister; and grandson, Kyle Ashley.
She is survived by her sons, Rick Ashley and wife, Christie, Mark Ashley, and Robbie Ashley and husband, John; grandchildren, Jennifer Landers and husband, Jeremy; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Dylan Landers; brother, Leon Cloud; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Patty was born October 27,1930 in Stanton, Texas to J. W. and Frances Fleming. She grew up in Scranton, Texas and graduated from Scranton High School where she medaled in basketball.
She married Brit Killough on July 14, 1950, in Cisco, Texas and they were happily married for 39 years. Patty enjoyed gardening. She always had a huge garden until just a few years ago She owned and operated her own beauty shop, known as Golden Brush Beauty Shop, for over 50 years from 1970 to June of 2021.
Patty was very involved in Park Memorial Baptist Church until they closed the church many years ago. At that time, she joined Meadowbrook Baptist Church where she was a member until her death.
Patty was preceded in death by her husband, Brit; her parents; two sisters; and four brothers.

He was born June 16, 1961, in Fort Campbell Kentucky to Lynwood and Valiene Johnson. He grew up in Blackshear, Georgia and graduated from Pierce County High School. He joined the Navy on November 14, 1979 and served for 22 years. Greg served in Gulf War and was the recipient of multiple Air medals and decorations including Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medals, Navy E Ribbon, Southwest Asia Service Medal and Naval Air Crewman. He retired in 2001, achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After retiring from the Navy, he began working for Raytheon (L3) and retired after 20 years.
Greg married Liz in 2004 in Waco, Texas and they were happily married for 18 and a half years. Both Greg and his wife enjoyed traveling together and had recently returned from a trip to Italy and Greece.
He was preceded in death by parents, Lynwood and Valiene Johnson.
Greg is survived by his wife, Liz; sons, Gregory Johnson, David Johnson, and Ryan Johnson; stepsons, John VonElling, Bobby Von Elling and Cody Mayfield; brothers, Mike and Bob Johnson; sister, Terri Wainwright; and numerous nieces and nephews. Greg was best known as "Papi" to his 13 grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held at his home in Hewitt, Texas on Friday, January 6 with close friends and family.

She was born February 1, 1926, in Duncan, Oklahoma to Andrew and Lora Bewley Neal. Anita grew up in Wichita Falls, Texas.  After high school she, followed Robbie D. Smith, her high school sweetheart, to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. They got married in 1944 and were happily married for 67 years. While in Ft. Lauderdale, she was involved in the USO, where she would help organize different activities for the military men and women that were stationed there.
Anita started at McLennan Community College in 1972 and graduated from Baylor University in 1980 with a degree in Environmental Science. She owned and operated the Baby Dolphin Swim School and retired in 1999 after 30 years. During those years, she and Robbie would often travel to local towns and teach private group lessons. Anita was the volunteer mom, taking her children and others to swim meets and was a room mother for many years.
She was a member of Herring Ave. Methodist Church. After Robbie retired, they enjoyed dancing. They often had to be run off the dance floor at the end of the night. Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Robbie; parents, Andrew and Lori Neal; daughter, Janet Deeann Smith; son, Robbie D. Smith, Jr.; brother, Jimmy Neal; and sisters, Carol and Gwen

Edward Peter Gambardella - September 25, 1952 - December 14, 2022

Obituary Preview: Edward Gambardella, 70 of Waco entered the gates of heaven December 14, 2022, with his family by his side at Austin Ascension Seton Hospital.  Visitation will be held from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, Monday, December 19, 2022, at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Bellmead.  Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco. Ed was born September 25, 1952, to Rose and Edward Gambardella in Manhattan, NY at Women’s Hospital. He worked in the newspaper industry for 40 years.  He enjoyed his leadership positions because he could help people get to the next level.  His career sent him to many places across the country, including the Waco Tribune-Herald and most recently, Publisher of the Clifton Record and Meridian Tribune.  He met many people and developed friendships that would last a lifetime.  His motto at work, “today we’re going to climb high mountains, who’s with me!”
Ed enjoyed many things, spending time with his wife, Edna (EJ).  They recently celebrated 25 years of marriage.  They were inseparable always with each other and enjoying life’s adventures.  He also enjoyed cooking, having people over to cook for, and always made everyone feel welcomed and like family.  He always took a human interest in people, never met a stranger, he met people that became friends.
Ed’s relationship with His Lord and Savior was very personal and very strong.  He loved the Lord, listening to Christian music throughout the day and reading scriptures to help him through life’s journey with all of its twist and turns.  His faith was strong and helped him continue to fight through his last day.
One of Ed’s good qualities was always looking for the best in people, plus helping them see the best in themselves.  He was an avid animal lover and over the years enjoyed his Cocker Spaniels Casey, Kirby, Angel and Addy.  More recently he enjoyed his four legged friends, CoCo and Crunchy.  He loved gardening and nature when he was able to devote time to it.
Ed is survived by his wife, Edna (EJ) Gambardella; sons, Paul Gambardella and wife, Lisa and Matthew Gambardella; daughter, Shannon Herod and soulmate, Devin Barton; grandsons, Aiden and Bryan Gambardella and Beau Barton.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Dowdle, Ronnie Dowdle, Wayne Bowe-McLeod, Rod Washington, Francisco Islas, and Devin Barton.  Honorary pallbearers Gary Meyer, Sam Stewart, Bobby Stewart, Al Bumelis, Garland Haverkamp and John Toland. A special Thanks to the Heart Transplant Team at Seton Hospital, the ICU, Third Floor and Physical Therapy medical professionals.  You all were like family to Ed or should I say SUPERMAN!

Morris Gene Wallace - December 16, 1936 - December 12, 2022

Obituary Preview: Morris Gene Wallace, 85, passed away Monday, December 12, 2022, at The Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel in Waco, Texas with burial to follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, at 1:00pm.
Morris was born December 16, 1936, in Brownwood, Texas to William and Ruth (Holcomb) Wallace.He grew up in Whon, Texas. After finishing high school, he was drafted into the Army National Guard at the Fort Sill Army Base in Oklahoma. Following his National Guard tour, Morris became an instructor, teaching electronics at Fort Sill through the Civil Service. Afterwards, he began working for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Management Training School and served in this position for 35 years. He earned the Civil Service rank of GS-13.
Morris served as a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Lawton, Oklahoma and at the First Baptist Church of Palm Coast, Florida. He served as the chairman of deacons at both organizations. Morris served on the board of the Florida Baptist Children’s Home.  In September of 2022, surrounded by family, friends, and the congregation, Morris was recognized at a dedication ceremony at the Palm Coast, FL Baptist Church. At this ceremony, it was announced that the new addition to the education building would be named the “Wallace Education Building” in his honor.
He married his bride, Linda Rose McCarter, in 1954 and were happily married for 68 years. They went on to have three sons: Charlie, Gordon, and Mike. Morris enjoyed building model airplanes and working with electronics.  He ran the very first color-television camera at the Temple Television Station in Temple, Texas. He was an integral part of a group working on the initial design for the global positioning system (GPS) while employed at the Federal Aviation Administration.
Morris was preceded in death by his father and mother, William and Ruth Wallace; sister, Billie Stephenson; and son, Charlie Wallace. He is survived by his wife, Linda Rose Wallace; daughter-in-law, Tammy Wallace; sons, Gordon Wallace and wife, Patty and Mike Wallace and wife, Heather; sister, Nelda Brink and husband, Benny; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives

Katie was born April 10, 1989, in Gatesville. She grew up in McGregor and graduated from Axtell High School in 2007. After high school, Katie joined the APA, with a love of playing pool and sports. She had a tremendous love of reading and books; she was a part of book clubs where she made friends from around the world. Katie lived her life to the fullest. She was an inspiration and a loving soul who grew into a beautiful woman that touched so many lives. Katie will forever be greatly missed but never forgotten.
Katie is survived by her mom, Melanie Chaudoin; grandparents, Sherrie and G.W. Chaudoin; aunt, Missy Lowry; uncles, Bobby and Mike Chaudoin; numerous other loving family members; and her best buddy, Chibbs.

Obituary Preview: Rebecca “Becky” Ricks Sheffield Cohen, 68 of Waco, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2022, Ascension Providence Hospital in Waco, Texas. Becky was called home to heaven after an exhausting health battle. Hoping to get on an organ donor list, she ran out of time. A memorial service will be held in January.
Becky was born Tuesday, May 25, 1954, in San Antonio, Texas.  Out of nine siblings, she was the third born to Joan and Robert M. Comer, Sr. Four generations of her family lived together in a rambling, rollicking, home of love.
Independent, resourceful, beautiful, and spunky, Becky was known for her outgoing personality, lighting up a room with her smile and delightful energy. She treated everyone with equal love and attention. She was fearless in the kitchen and could make an everyday meal or something elegant and complicated.
She looked forward to her annual trips up North to visit with her grandkids and experience a true “winter” at Texas rarely offered. Quite often she was on the go, helping friends and family alike. She was an advocate that could battle royally if you needed someone in your corner.
Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Joan and Robert Comer, Sr.; brother, Ronald Comer; and sisters, Rosemary Gomez and Rene Palmer.
She is survived by her husband, Dean Cohen; brothers, Robert Comer and wife, Judy, Rick Comer and wife, Teresa, and Reggie Comer and wife, Donna; sisters, Rita Munsch and husband, Dwain and Roberta Guajardo and husband, Gino; and loving sons, Jonathan Ricks and wife, Christy and Stephen Ricks. She is an angel now for her beloved grandchildren, Kaleb, Joshua, Ryley, and Lola. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends will miss her warm smile.

Obituary Preview: Janet Marie Pomarico, 86, of Waco, Texas passed away peacefully in her home on November 23rd surrounded by family.
Janet was born on June 27, 1936, to Ralph & Ruth Colgan Pendleton in Beacon, New York. Janet graduated from Beacon High School in 1954, where she met the love of her life, Robert Pomarico.
In 1956, Janet and Robert married and went on to have 2 children, Marijane McMullen and Helen Pomarico.
When Janet’s children were young, the phrase “stay-at-home-mom” didn’t exist. Janet was an exceptional wife and mother. She cared deeply for her family. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was.
After relocating in 1972 to Waco, Texas Janet began working for M&M Mars Company. In 1995, Janet retired and enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, cooking, tennis, and gardening.
Janet loved her family dearly. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life and her relationship with her sister was cherished. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, colleague, and friend. She touched the lives of so many people. She will truly be missed and will never, ever, be forgotten.
Janet was predeceased by her mother and father, Ralph and Ruth Pendleton, and sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Donald Seeley. She is survived by her husband, Robert Pomarico, daughter, and son in law, Marijane and Nathan McMullen, daughter, Helen Pomarico, 8 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren.

He was born to Arville Lee and Veda Mae Williams on March 5, 1937, in DeKalb, TX and grew up with 2 sisters, Juanelle and Bettie in Waco. After high school, Don moved to Abilene where he became a route man with Borden Dairy under the supervision of his Uncle JQ Pickens. While in Abilene, he met the love of his life, Betty Oleta, while he was working as a milkman. Together, they had 3 children: Charlotte Turpack, JD Williams and Donna Pospisil.
He later moved his family to Austin to start a Borden Dairy plant that he ran for 27 years. After Austin and when their kids were grown, Borden Dairy took him to the Houston area where he and Betty lived until he bought his own Franchise with Lawson Products and moved back to his hometown of Waco. He later retired from Lawson Products to enjoy life at home with Betty.
Don loved to play golf and maintain his home and yard. He and Betty bought an RV and traveled all over America as often as they could. They were a loving home to many dogs, mostly pomeranians, and also to birds over the years.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, their 3 kids, Charlotte, JD and Donna as well as 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, their pomeranian Sassy, and their bird Bitty.

Jim was born November 23, 1941, in Lott, Texas, to Olga and Edward Schlemmer. He attended and graduated from Lott High School. Prior to joining the Air Force, Jim worked on his parents’ farm and at the local gin.
After serving in Turkey for 4 years, Jim was honorably discharged from the Air Force and went to work at Southwestern Bell as an installer and repairman in the Cameron/Rockdale district.  He retired after 30 years of service.
He was never one to stay idle, so he went to work at the Waco soccer fields doing whatever was needed. He also worked with family buying and selling antiques. Jim never found a phone he couldn’t repair.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Olga and Edward Schlemmer.
He is survived by his wife, Claudia Schlemmer; brother, Larry Schlemmer and wife, Debbie; sister, Joyce Wells and husband, Wayne; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Georgia grew up in West, Texas and graduated from West High School in 1951.  After high school, she married Vance N. Willis on Christmas Eve, 1951 and they were happily married for just short of 68 years.
Georgia was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking and crocheting afghans for the family.  For many years, she worked for the Driver’s License office at the Texas Department of Public Safety, where she helped many of her daughters’ friends through the process of getting their first driver’s license.  After retiring from the DPS, Georgia cared for her young grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vance N. Willis; parents, Henry and Pauline Heitmiller; brother, Harry Lee Heitmiller; sister, Allene (Heitmiller) Ashleman; and youngest daughter, Kelly Layne (Willis) McClain Stanford.
Georgia is survived by her daughters, Vana Lynn (Willis) Smith and Laura Lee (Willis) Schag; grandchildren, Ryan McClain, Caitlyn McClain, Whitney Stanford; four great-grandchildren; nieces, Mitzi (Heitmiller) Urbanosky, Myrna (Heitmiller) Jezek; nephew, Eddie Ashleman; and numerous other relatives.

He was a dedicated member of St. Louis Catholic Church.

After high school, she attended Four C Business College of Waco where she received a certificate for business. She also attended McLennan Community College and studied Mental Health Counseling. She began work for The VA Medical Center as a Nurse’s Aid in the Blind Rehab and transitioned to a telephone operator where she worked until she retired, in 2001.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Obie Thompson Sr. and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ellis.
She is survived by her devoted sister, Essie Johnson; loving daughters, Teresa Scott, Janie Thompson, and Avery Thompson; sons, S. L. Roddy, Jr. and Henry Thompson; devoted nieces, Stephanie Angel and Cheryl Johnson; and a host of grandkids and other relatives.

In 1960, he joined the US Army, where he received the rank of Specialist 4th Class. He served in South Korea and was awarded the Rifleman’s Badge. After he was honorably discharged in 1962, he became a commercial scale technician.  He owned and operated Central Texas Scale until he retired in 2003.
He married Nelda Tarver in 1983 and they were happily married for 39 years. Jerry was a member of Hewitt Community Church. He enjoyed remodeling his home, working on the lights at the church, and was very passionate about the scale business.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ila Fay Williams; stepmother, Hazel Williams; brothers, Billie Williams and Keith Williams; and great-granddaughter, Brinlee Raine Williams.

Judy Marie Bergendahl - July 19, 1949 - October 13, 2022

Obituary Preview: Judy Marie Hennig Bergendahl, was 73 years old. Born to Viola Pauline Trojan and Wesley William Lonnie Hennig at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Hospital.  She grew up in Bellmead and graduated from La Vega in 1968.  She was on the drill team and played volleyball. The family spent a lot of time at the ballpark; Judy, along with her brother, coached softball; during the summer, she played on the church and city-wide softball teams, with catcher admittingly being her favorite position.  Judy was a charter member of Christ American Lutheran Church. She married John Bergendahl in 1976. They moved to Hewitt and joined the Methodist Church on 1st Street.  Judy worked at Hillcrest Hospital for 30 years and retired from Hillcrest Senior Health Center. She continued to work with Comfort Keepers for 7 years and was a receptionist for H&R Block in Hewitt for about 7 years.      After her divorce, Judy joined the Central United Methodist Church where she organized singles volleyball. Her aunt, Norma Trojan Douglas, got her started with Texas Association of Single Adults (TASA). Judy was in charge of scheduling bands, sent out dance reminders, and later became the president.  She was very active. She enjoyed going to water aerobics at the YMCA in the morning, then Sul Ross Senior Center at noon, where she got back into ceramics, a passion she had earlier in life, arts and crafts, and socializing with all friends, especially birthday parties and bingo.  Every Thursday night, you could always find Judy at the dance, she was passionate about dancing, especially polkas.  She also, loved the outdoors and spending time at Lake Whitney, where she had been going since childhood, water skiing, swimming, and especially fishing; she always caught the most fish.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind her son, William Bergendahl and wife, Akemi; granddaughter, Sarah; grandson, Ian; stepdaughter, Stacy Bergendahl; brothers, Larry Hennig and wife, Kathy and Doug Hennig; nieces, Lesley and husband, Will and Hadley Woodruff; aunts, Margie Deer, Joyce Wiethorn, and Thelma Trojan; uncle, Tommy Hennig; numerous cousins; Harold Hyde, a very special dancing partner (boyfriend) for 18 years where they shared lots of memories; and last but not least, her many friends: Joyce Kendrick, Jerre Gumelt, Pam Uzzle, the yaya’s, and the Karan family to include Champ.
