He was born on August 16, 1955 in Maryville, TN, the son of Marvin Lee Watson and Ida Doris Watson. He was the middle child of 5 siblings and is survived by his wife Jonnie Lyn of 45 years, his son Brandon Lee Watson and wife Jennifer and stepson Landon, and his daughter Amy Leighanne and husband Shane Maples. He is also survived by his sisters, Brenda and husband Chuck Nickolson, Gloria and husband Wilfred Allmos”lochner, Donnetta and husband Wayne Skidmore and his deceased brother Randy Watson.
He graduated from Butler High School in 1973 and worked for PPG Industries for 27 years where he worked his way up to helping manage the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Program. While working he obtained his bachelor’s degree of Business and Science from Faulkner University. He continued to work and consult after leaving PPG.
During his illustrious career he was recognized by the State of Alabama for his most improved and innovative recycling program in the state of Alabama and the most significant waste reduction program for PPG corporate wide. He was invited and had a personal lunch with Governor Fob James for these contributions.
Gary and his wife created the company L.W. Enterprises 7 years ago and sold “Goat Island Sauce” which consisted of 4 different flavors that he developed and sold locally. The name was derived in honor of their beautiful view of Lake Guntersville at Goat Island.
A service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 12th in his memory at First Baptist Church, Guntersville, AL where he was a member for 30 years and served with his wife as the Training Union Directors for 2 years. Receiving will begin at 1:00 and the service will be at 2:00.
