Harvey L. Roll - May 19, 1928 - May 01, 2024

Departed: 05/01/2024 (Arcade)
Obituary Preview: On May 1, 2024 at age 95 years, 11 months, and 12 days, Harvey Lawrence Roll of Sandusky, NY, peacefully made his Great Transition. A blessed man, Harvey and his beloved wife Joann raised, as he called them, a ‘½-dozen Rolls’: Lawrence (Linda) of Freedom, NY, Rebecca (Leon) LaClair of Evergreen, CO, Dona of Sandusky, NY, James (Brenda) of Mohrsville, PA, Anita (Kenn) Pahlman of Lake Villa, IL, and Vanessa (John) Adams of Delevan, NY.

Harvey’s life was defined by his love of family and community. A farmer at heart, he cherished Joann more than life and he gave up his dream of farming for her, became actively involved in her church, kept food on the table and a roof over her head by working at anything and everything necessary, learned ballroom dancing, and smiled and whistled through it all. Together, they raised six children to love one another, grew an impossible garden, played euchre, ate limburger, made sauerkraut, baked pies and cheesecakes, traveled their world, and danced and sang and danced and sang and danced some more.
Harvey’s love of community was evident in his long tenure on the Arcade-then-Pioneer School Board, leader-membership in the Arcade Lions Club and Arcade Masonic Lodge, and famous Yellow Sign, sharing pithy sayings and heralding neighborhood birthdays. Known everywhere for his rambling whistle and joyful smile, Harvey’s work ethic, steady faith in God, and lifelong sense of humor endeared him to those whose lives he touched. He leaves these words, “I am blessed.”
Led by his angel Joann, those who met him on the other side include his parents, Lawrence Roll and Beulah Roll Jost; stepfather, August Jost; Roll brothers: Elwyn, Elmo, and Lynn; Jost brothers: Dick, Eugene, and Wilbur; grandson, Jarott Roll; son-in-law, David Cagwin; mother-in-law: Verna Fuchs; sister-in-law’s: Iris Steckmeyer and Jean Stokaylo; brother-in-law, James Fuchs; nephew Kevin Fox.
Family and friends may call on Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. at W.S. Davis Funeral Home, 358 W. Main St., Arcade, NY.
