Vurl Dixson - March 27, 1930 - May 01, 2024

Departed: 05/01/2024 (Oklahoma City)
Obituary Preview: Vurl (“O.B.”) Dixson met his Savior face-to-face on Wednesday, May 1st, 2024, in the house he built with his brothers and father to hear the words, “WELL DONE MY GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT!”, just a few days short of his 69th wedding anniversary. After deciding not to continue his basketball scholarship at OCU, Vurl was recruited by the St Louis Cardinals; but baseball was not what he (or his knees) wanted in life so instead, he joined the Air Force. Following his service, he met his soon-to-be wife at (oddly enough) a basketball game at his high school Alma Mater, Dale High School.
After 5 years of marriage, Vurl became a father in 1960, and then again in 1963, and once more in 1968. During those early years he, along with his brothers and father, built houses across the metro-plex. He was a master craftsman at work, at home, and for everyone else who called. But his greatest work was done across roughly 40 disaster recovery and relief missions in locations from tornado-torn Oklahoma, to the flooded hills of Kentucky, and from earthquake-ridden California, to starving villages in third-world countries. Through those trips Vurl remained a vigilant father and husband and still served churches he and his family belonged to (including a 1-year unpaid leave from his “real” job). While we kids (at least then) thought him to be a disciplinarian, as we’ve grown older and experienced our own parenting challenges as everyone does, his words ring true in our ears, “You will know what I mean when you have kids of your own.”
He has not just left servant-hearted footprints-in-the-sand for us to follow just as Jesus did, but has helped to preserve, and better lives and futures, across the world. Vurl was preceded in death by his: Parents; Sister, Bernice Whorton;
Brothers: Orrell “Happy” Dixson and Olice Dixson. Vurl is survived by his loving family: Wife of 69 years ~ Barbara Dixson Son ~ David Dixson and his wife, Kimberly Son ~ Darryl Dixson and his wife, Elaine Daughter ~ Dana DuRoy and her husband, Chris Brother ~ Bobby Dean Dixson Sisters ~ Loretta Jackson and Wanda Wilson Grandchildren ~ Erin Dixson, Kevin Dixson, Daniel Dixson, Addison DuRoy, and Gabby DuRoy;
As well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Viewing will be held 4-8 PM Monday and Tuesday at Vondel Smith Mortuary, 6934 S Western Ave, OKC, OK 73139. The family will be present to greet friends at the funeral home from 5-7 PM Monday evening only. Services to honor and celebrate Vurl's life, will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 8th, 2024 at the South Colonial Chapel of Vondel L. Departed: 04/23/2024 (Oklahoma City)
Obituary Preview: Ginger Lynn Higgins September 11, 1966 ~ April 23, 2024
Ginger Lynn Higgins was born September 11, 1966, eldest daughter to James Cecil Cobb and Betty Jean Fisher. She grew up in the country on property in south Oklahoma City enjoying time with her two younger siblings, Rodney and Eric. They would play in the creek and get into shenanigans, giving her parents grief as kids often do. Ginger helped raise animals. She had a lamb that was cherished that she earned by working for a neighbor. When Ginger and her family left for vacation on the 4th of July, Ginger worried the fireworks would cause the lamb to run away, so she tied it to a post. The fireworks frighten the lamb, causing the lamb to tighten the noose. She returned devastated. Ginger also helped on various other odd projects her father would begin. At the age of 21, Ginger married Victor Higgins on November 16, 1987. They were blessed with five children. She enjoyed keeping a garden while they lived on Westminster Rd. Nearly an acre of flowers and crops, Ginger grew to fill her time. She didn't anticipate the yield they would receive and found she loved sharing her vegetables. Ginger loved cooking and baking for anyone who came to visit. While the children were young, Ginger loved filming and photographing their time at home and on the road. She was very fond of travel and would plan for weeks, what they would see and go do, making a very organized itinerary. Ginger's favorite place to visit was Washington. She was baptized on December 11, 1988 into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn, where she was blessed with the gifts of helps and discerning of spirits. Ginger spent some of her remaining years living with her mother due to declining health. Ginger was able to build a strong bond with her mother over this time. When her health improved, Ginger moved into an apartment and she loved making her own and was very proud of. Ginger was a very social woman who loved speaking on the phone or in person for hours with the ones she loved. She loved to go dancing, spend time in the pool, working in the yard, and spending time with her grandkids.
She was a great mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She will be remembered for her contagious laugh, and her amazing sense of humor. Nobody knew what was going to come out of her mouth but most likely her comments would end with a room full of laughter. Camie will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her mother Carolyn Cox, her twin sons James and Jason Ellzey; her daughter Ciara Segura; and her grandchildren Owen, Addison, Madison, and Haley; and her many cousins.
In honor of Camie’s wishes, her family will hold a small family celebration of life service.

Doris Ada Pybas - May 22, 1926 - April 11, 2024

Departed: 04/11/2024 (Oklahoma City)
Obituary Preview: Ada “Doris” Pybas, 97, of Fort Smith, AR, entered into heaven on April 11, 2024. She was born to Roy and Goldie Watkins in Oklahoma City, OK on May 22, 1926. She married Rev Garth Pybas on February 2, 1943. Theirs was a great love story that spanned more than 63 years. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2006, her parents, her sister, Betty Boone, her daughter, Janet Arnold, and her grandson, Jason Helmbacher. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Helmbacher and husband, Neal of Fort Smith, 4 grandchildren and their spouses, 12 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many wonderful friends.
Doris gave her life to Christ as a teenager. During a revival at her church, she met a fiery young preacher boy and quickly fell in love. He was the great love of her life. Soon after their marriage, they were separated for 2 years by World War II. Upon his return home, their life of ministry began. Doris was a faithful, loving, exemplary Pastor’s wife. During their ministry, she served in every area of the church. From Sunday School Teacher and Director, to Mission’s Director, to VBS Director, to choir member— she did it all during their more than 50 years in ministry. They served churches in Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas and Illinois. While at First Southern Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, she saw a need for a deaf ministry. She taught herself sign language and led a very large deaf ministry. There was seldom a Sunday meal where there were not guests at their table. Their home was always open and welcoming to all. Any success enjoyed in Garth’s ministry was directly due to his faithful wife. She was a wonderful Mother to their two daughters and created a home full of love, laughter, and music. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren loved time spent with their “Me-Me”. “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praiseth her. Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: But a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.” Proverbs‬ ‭31‬:‭10-12, 28, 30-31
A family led graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at 11:00 am at Resthaven Cemetery in Oklahoma City, OK.
