Timothy David Stovall - June 21, 1968 - April 17, 2022

Departed: 04/17/2022 (Logandale)
Obituary Preview: Timothy David Stovall, 53, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2022 in his home in Overton, NV. Tim was born on June 21, 1968 in Monticello, UT to Lawrence Stephen and Elaine Martin Stovall. He was raised in Monticello with his three siblings, and he attended Monticello High School. As a youth, he was active and athletic. He played football and was a State Champion in Wrestling. When he wasn’t playing sports, he was usually getting into some kind of trouble, often with his brother, playing pranks and other shenanigans around the town. He loved the outdoors and he enjoyed working at a cattle ranch for a few summers before graduating in 1986. After graduation he decided to serve a mission for the LDS church. His belief in the gospel led him to be the first missionary in his entire family history, and his decision to serve inspired his parents to be sealed in the temple. After his mission, he left Monticello to study at Dixie College where he met Dee Lyn Rasmussen, who was a nursing student. They continued their relationship as he went to work for Mercy Ambulance in Las Vegas, NV and she at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT. He would make the drive to see her as often as he possibly could. They were married in the Salt Lake City, UT Temple on November 16, 1990, and became the loving parents of their four children. While attending the University of Utah and working for the Utah medical examiner, he was afflicted with some debilitating medical complications that he overcame, and was eventually able to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree. Tim then moved his family to Las Vegas, NV where he joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 2001. He served bravely, tirelessly, selflessly, and honorably; and loved and respected those officers he served with. Tim was often fishing, shooting, and off-roading in his spare time, especially with his children, and picked up being a cowboy as his family moved to Moapa Valley in 2017. Here he bought some horses, cows, a couple dogs, and a brand-new tractor, and began fulfilling his dream of being a rancher. Above all, Tim loved his wife, Dee, and his children, who he gave everything for.
Tim is survived by his wife, Dee Stovall; his children, Christian (Mikayla Pillar) Stovall, Benjamin (McKenna) Stovall, Kelli (Trent) Roberts, and Hanna Stovall; his one grandchild that is on the way; his father, Steve Stovall; his siblings, Mike (Tracey) Stovall, Karen (Brian) Shattuck, and John (Viola) Stovall; a wonderfully large extended family full of nieces and nephews who all loved their Uncle Tim; and his second family at Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. He is preceded in death by his mother, Elaine Stovall, and his nephew, Ethan Rapoza.
Viewing services will be held on Monday, April 25, 2022 9-10:30 a.m.at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logandale, NV Stake Center, with Funeral services following at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will follow at the Logandale Cemetery. Dalton Bruce Whipple - February 24, 1984 - March 26, 2022

Departed: 03/26/2022 (Logandale)
Obituary Preview: On March 26, 2022, at 9:45 am, a special soul was called home. Dalton Bruce Whipple, surrounded by his siblings and Mother, passed away peacefully in his sleep just one month after his 38th birthday. The night before, Dalton was alert and happily talking with his family, joking and counting the donuts his big brother Bret, brought home for all to enjoy.
Born February 24, 1984, Dalton is the son of Jane Whipple and Daryl Bradshaw. He was welcomed into a home of six girls and three boys. Despite his health challenges, and the special needs that afflicted him from birth, Dalton lived a full and joyful life. He was supported and very deeply loved, by all who had the privilege to know him.
Labeled a failure to thrive baby, Dalton was kept alive by the grit and determination of his mother. At ten pounds and ten months old, he underwent his first heart surgery in preparation for a major operation several years later. Still considered high risk, Dalton was given a 40% chance of surviving the operation and spent a month in the hospital at UCLA.. At the age of eight, with the help of genome research, Dalton was diagnosed with the genetic disorder, Prader-Willi Syndrome. A disorder that effects the 15th chromosome which can occur in 1 in 15,000 births each year.
Despite these obstacles, Dalton lived a full and happy life on his ranch in Hiko, Nevada. He showed pigs and lambs with the local 4-H Club at the Clark County Fair for many years. He was main-streamed in the school system where he established life-long friends who he regularly spoke about. He rode horses and enjoyed driving his 4-wheeler giving him an unprecedented amount of freedom, uncommon for a child with the same affliction in the city. Dalton was an avid arrowhead collector who would search for hours after a recent rain and was always ready to help his siblings with projects on the ranch.
Because Dalton’s siblings were older, a visit with each one exposed him to most of the national parks on the west coast and regular trips to New York City and Los Angeles. Where-ever he went, he touched the hearts and lives of people. A visit to Disneyland and Knott’s Berry farm  always ensured a collection of stuffed animals, as strangers would give their hard-earned prize to Dalton with the desire to just see him smile. The community he lived in was even more generous.
Friends, neighbors and strangers would stop him for a hug and conversation. Always lifted by his joyful sprit and contagious smile, people enjoyed spending time with him. He was blessed to grow-up in such a loving community and he truly valued the relationships he had with the people in his life.
While in school, it was discovered that Dalton had an excellent signing voice. Some of his favorite songs were “Home on the Range”, “Silent Night” and “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”. It was not uncommon to watch him bring people to tears with the purity of his voice and his own interpretation of the song.
Dalton is survived by his mother, Jane Whipple; his siblings, Bret (Paige) Whipple, Betsy Whipple, Blu (Lisa) Whipple, Peggy (John) Reggio, Cody (Dana) Whipple, and J.J. (Lance) Waller; his nieces and nephews, Hope, Shea, Kent, Emma, Hallie, Maggie, Kate, Lydia, Arien, and Colton; his great-nieces and -nephews, Revel, Everly, Wright; and many close and loving friends that were a part of his life. Dalton is received in Heaven by Daddy Kent.
Viewing services will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022, 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Alamo, NV Chapel, with Funeral services following at 11:00. Interment will follow at the Kent Whipple Ranch in a family plot on a plateau overlooking the ranch. A live-stream of the services may be found at Dalton Whipple Facebook group. The family invites you to consider a donation in Dalton’s honor to: Clark County Junior Livestock Association (CCJLA), www.ccjla.com, CCJLA, P.O. Box 668, Logandale, NV 89021. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in their Guest Book at www.moapavalleymortuary.com.
Moapa Valley Mortuary (702-398-3600) is overseeing the funeral procession and The Front Porch (702- 397-8334) is preparing flowers. All who knew and enjoyed Dalton are welcome.

Eben Visher - November 15, 1947 - March 15, 2022

Departed: 03/15/2022 (Logandale)
Obituary Preview: Eben Visher Obituary
Loving son, fun and funny little brother, adoring and loyal husband, amazing dad, enthusiastic grandfather, devoted and generous friend, student for life, teacher through and through, technology advisor to all, and faithful servant of God.
Eben Rockwell Sharpe Visher, 74, was born on November 15, 1947 in Washington, D. C. the youngest son of Worth Joseph and Beatrice Washburne Sharpe. He passed away from post-surgery complications in Las Vegas, Nevada, on March 15, 2022, surrounded by family and a heroic medical team.
Eben’s father, Worth, passed away from Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever when Eben was six months old. His mother later married John Visher, who adopted Eben and his brothers and brought a son of his own to the union. They raised their four boys primarily in Falls Church, Virginia, and in Athens, Greece, for five years, and in Montreal, Canada, for a year.
Eben was born with a heart defect, which, in 1947, meant that he was not expected to live beyond his teenage years. Thanks to pioneering efforts in heart surgery, Eben was among the earliest patients to have open heart surgery in the late 1950’s, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where the defect was corrected. He grew up loving anything and everything about science, math, science fiction, classical music, photography, magic, and nature. He was a strong swimmer and a certified lifeguard. He loved camping with his family and traveling to fascinating locations in Europe and the Middle East while growing up.
Upon graduating from Annandale (Virginia) High School, Eben attended Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin. While there, he became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He later served a two-year mission for the church in Switzerland and France, where he became fluent in the French language. Following his mission, he returned to Beloit for another year of college, and then transferred to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, from which he graduated in Math and Physics. He also did graduate work in Math. He taught high school Math, then taught Math and later Computer Science at BYU. Eventually he was lured away from teaching to work in software development, which he did for the remainder of his career, in Provo until 1986, and then in Sacramento, California. He retired in 2021, and he and Kathy moved to Las Vegas, near two of their daughters. Eben loved writing software, and he loved everything to do with technology. He shared his knowledge freely with all who were interested. He also took many, many photographs throughout his life, and loved editing them when the technology to do so became available on computers, tablets, and phones. He spent many hours serving in the Church, in bishoprics, in other ward and stake leadership callings, and, his favorite, teaching. In the last fifteen years of his life, Eben was a member of and ardent supporter of Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous. He gave generously of his time and knowledge to fellow FA members, and was continually loved and supported by his FA friends.
Eben and Kathy (Kathryn Austin) met at BYU and were married in the Provo, Utah temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on September 7, 1973. He loved watching her sing, which happened often, and he always smiled broadly and perhaps a little conspicuously whenever she performed. He and Kathy loved children, and adopted their six children while living in Utah. The children learned to love many things, especially books, because their dad read to them constantly. His lectures on geology, whenever we traveled, are well remembered by his kids, along with many, many lectures about science, technology, dressing for success, and being a good human.
Eben is survived by his wife Kathy, his children Sarah (and Sergio) Barillas, Annie (and Josh) Ostler, Emily Visher (and Jamil Bhanji), Matthew (and Rusty) Visher, Michael (and Sarah) Visher, and Amy Visher; grandchildren Brendon, Joshua, Aloria, Claire, Ammon, Gabriel, Noelle, Emmett, Kylie, Mekhi, and Zola, and by his brothers Christopher N. Visher and S. Chandler Visher and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Stephen Sargent Visher.
The funeral service for Eben will be Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 11:00 A. M. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 10070 Azure Drive, Las Vegas, Nevada, 89149. There will be a viewing for all friends and family at the church prior to the funeral, from 9:30-10:30. Services will be under the direction of Moapa Valley Mortuary, 702-398-3600. The family suggests that anyone who might desire to make a charitable contribution in Eben’s name consider a donation to Brigham Young University or to Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous.

Patricia Abernathy - February 24, 1947 - February 20, 2022

Departed: 02/20/2022 (Logandale)
Obituary Preview: PATRICIA ANN SALOME ABERNATHY passed away on February 20, 2022 in Logandale, Nevada, just four days before her 75th birthday. She was the fifth child and third daughter of Grant Asa and Anita Cooper Salome.  Trisha, as she was known by her family, was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico on February 24, 1947.
After the family moved from New Mexico they settled in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1955.  It was here that Trisha spent her childhood, attending elementary school and graduating from Western High School in 1965.  She went to work after graduating and enjoyed the years working and being with her friends before she met her husband to be, Berry Chappman Abernathy.  They were married on December 2, 1967 in Las Vegas.
They had one child, Erin Leigh Abernathy on December 27, 1970.  Berry was a musician and he travelled a lot for his job and Trisha was always with him.  Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and many cities in the mainland United States were just a few of the many destinations that Trisha got to visit before they settled down in Las Vegas permanently.  The marriage ended in divorce in 1975.
Trisha loved children and made that her life’s work.  She taught pre-schoolers for over 20 years and was affectionally known as “Miss Patti” to her kids.  She has had a powerful influence on a great many children over the years and loved them and was loved by them.
Illness caused Trisha to have to retire from her chosen vocation and she never really fully regained her strength after that.  She battled serious rheumatoid arthritis and developed heart problems later in life.  She suffered many bouts of illness and was ever valiant in her efforts to carry on.  When the end finally came it was a blessing to see her at peace.
She was preceded in death by her parents Grant and Anita Cooper Salome; two brothers, Jerry and Ronald, and a sister, Edwina.  She is survived by her daughter Erin and two grandsons Chase and Jacob and her sister and brother-in-law Vikki and Gary Marshall of Logandale.
A service will be held in her honor at 4:30 p.m. on March 4, 2022 at the Mountain View Lutheran Church, 9550 W. Cheyenne Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada.
Much can be said of Trisha but definitely that she was loved by her family and friends and she returned that love unconditionally.  May she rest now, in peace.

Janet Louise Taylor - February 10, 1937 - February 18, 2022

Departed: 02/18/2022 (Logandale)
Obituary Preview: After a few nights of singing, laughs, and Jeopardy, Janet Louise Morley Taylor, passed away eight days after her 85th birthday on Friday, February 18, 2022, at her home in Las Vegas, Nevada, surrounded by family and loved ones. Janet Morley was born February 10,1937, in Provo, Utah; the fourth child of Alonzo John and Eloise Stewart Morley. She was later married to Melvin Taylor on May 27, 1955 in the Manti, Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
As a child, Janet was a bright-eyed and energetic little spitfire. At 12-years-old, for instance, she threatened to give Mr. Bridges the “licking of [his] life” for the 177-day Hawaiian boat strike that forced Janet and family to leave their car and baggage in Hawaii and take a 14-hour flight home to Los Angeles. It would seem Janet had to leave her heart there, too, because she loved it there and returned often throughout her life. As she matured, Janet became more tame, but those who knew her knew she never lost her spitfire spirit.
In her young adult life and throughout high school, she was mildly rebellious, highly social and very involved in clubs, plays, tumbling, and of course, dance. Janet’s eternal dance partner, Melvin Taylor, asked Jan to marry him during her senior year at Provo High School. They moved around the western states looking for work, having kids as they went, before landing in Las Vegas for Mell's job at the Nevada test site.
Eight “great” kids later, Janet was a full time (AND over-time) mom. With 4 boys and 4 girls they officially had “4 of each” and if you've met any of those eight “great” kids you know what a miracle she performed. Losing her 4th child, Kenny John, to cancer in November of 1979, was possibly the hardest challenge she endured on this earth. It solidified her conviction, however, to love and serve her children, their families, and really anyone who would let her, even some who wouldn’t.
With everything she went through, Janet continually refined her gift for loving others. Unknown to many, she spent her life taking in the weary traveler, loving them as her own. In her quiet way, Janet’s gift of real, unconditional, Christ-like love has changed the way WE love and will thereby continue to change hearts forever.
Janet loved her family—her husband Melvin; her four sons and four daughters: Kim; Kari (Boyd Tracy) Eliason; Keli (Jaymes) Leu; Kenny John; Kurt (Christine); Koni (Brian) Whitaker; all of Las Vegas, NV; Kristi (Troy) Pace of Lake Havasu City, AZ; Kasey (Stephanie) of Las Vegas, NV. She adores her 24 grandchildren and her 27 (almost 28) great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Gerald (Judy) Morley of Minnesota.
She is proceeded in death by her husband, Melvin Taylor; her son, Kenny John Taylor; her son-in-law Jaymes Leu, her granddaughter, Kayli Eliason, her brother Stewart Morley, and her two sisters Marilyn Washburn and Diane Hellstrom.
A viewing will be held for Janet from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Friday, February 25, 2022 and the following day Saturday, February 26, 2022, from 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM, at the Alta and Jones building of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 6100 Alta Dr. Las Vegas, NV 89107.
The funeral services in honor of Janet will be held at the same building after the viewing on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 1:00 PM.
Interment will be Monday, March 21st, 2022 at 1:00 PM at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 1900 Veterans Memorial Dr. Boulder City, NV 89005.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a sense of closure and help to celebrate the life of the deceased.

Who typically writes an obituary?

Obituaries are usually written by family members or close friends of the deceased, although funeral homes or professional writers may also assist in the writing process.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, and surviving family members. It may also include information about memorial services, donations, or other relevant details.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary, but it's generally recommended to keep it concise and focused on the most important details. Aim for around 100-200 words.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and newspapers allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a nice way to personalize the tribute and help readers remember the deceased.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and deadlines. Some newspapers may have online submission forms or email addresses where you can send the obituary.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary in advance, often as part of their estate planning or as a way to ensure their legacy is preserved. This can be a unique opportunity to reflect on your life and share your story with others.

What is the difference between an obituary and a eulogy?

An obituary is a written notice announcing a person's death, while a eulogy is a speech or written tribute delivered at a funeral or memorial service. A eulogy is typically more personal and focuses on sharing stories and memories of the deceased.

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

Yes! Quotes, lyrics, or poems can add depth and meaning to an obituary. Choose something that resonates with the deceased's personality or values.

What if I'm not comfortable writing an obituary myself?

DON'T WORRY! Many funeral homes offer assistance with writing obituaries, or you can hire a professional writer who specializes in obituaries. You can also ask a trusted friend or family member for help.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The publication timeline varies depending on the newspaper or online platform. Some may publish immediately, while others may take several days or even weeks.

Costs vary widely depending on the newspaper or online platform. Some may charge by word count, while others offer package deals or discounts for online-only publications.

Can I publish an obituary online only?

Yes! Online obituary platforms have become increasingly popular in recent years. These platforms often offer more flexibility and creative control than traditional newspapers.

How do I find old obituaries?

If you're unsure about what to include or how to phrase something, don't hesitate to ask for guidance from a trusted friend, family member, funeral home, or professional writer.

Can I create a memorial website or online tribute instead of a traditional obituary?

Yes! Memorial websites and online tributes offer a unique way to celebrate a loved one's life and share memories with others. These platforms often allow for more creative freedom and flexibility than traditional obituaries.
