He was a kindhearted man that never knew a stranger. He will be missed by all who were blessed enough to know him and live on in countless memories and hearts. Deane Gerald Cramer - September 18, 1931 - April 15, 2024

Departed: 04/15/2024 (Festus)
Obituary Preview: Deane Gerald Cramer, age 92, of Festus, Missouri, passed away Monday April 15, 2024 at his home. He was born September 18, 1931 in Champaign, Illinois, the son of the late Geraldine (nee Shane) and Ralph E. Cramer.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Mary “Nancy” (nee Brown) Cramer, and daughter Laura Marie (Michael survives of South Carolina) Martin.
He was survived by sons David G. (Lavon) Cramer of Decatur, Illinois, and Daniel S. (Kristen) Cramer who passed away since, on Wednesday, April 17, 2024; grandchildren Micheala (Ben) Pietrowski, Tiffany (fiancé Roderick “Bo” Barrett) Cramer, Alecia Cramer, Cassidy Cramer, and Abbey (Sam) Redman; great-grandchildren Maddie Pietrowski, Austin Pietrowski, Kyle Cramer, Cierra Cramer, Nikolas Barrett, Chance Cramer, Bennett Lakebrink, Liam Redman, and Lillian Redman; and a brother Roy (Karen) Cramer of Decatur, Illinois.
Deane served proudly in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Fulton, a submarine tender during the Korean War, was a retired engineer with PPG Industries at the Crystal City flat glass plant, and a member of Grace Presbyterian Church.
Deane was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. If you were part of his family, you were never alone. An engineer that taught us all the most important things in life and how to fix anything with just a little (or a lot) of duct tape. When called abroad to fix glass plants around the globe, he insisted his family go with him or he wouldn't go. He enjoyed sharing the worlds history and attractions with his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling in his airstream and later his motor home and when his children grew up, he took his grandkids. He loved camping in Colorado with Nancy and took many trips to all the Springs and state parks in Missouri where he taught his family the beauty of nature and the meaning of family. He loved his grandchildren more than life itself.
He always wore a button up shirt with a pocket to hold his pens and little notebook. He also carried a plastic coin purse from PPG. and a calculator watch, the consummate engineer. One of his proudest accomplishments was the construction of a glass plant outside of Hong Kong. He was the construction manager and came in on record time and under budget.
Visitation for Deane and Daniel will be from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Sunday, April 21, 2024 at Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Interment with full military honors for Deane will follow in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City, Missouri. Memorials in his memory are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Obituary Preview: Rev. Gan Minh Nguyen C.Ss.R., Please pray for the repose of the soul of Fr. Gan Minh Nguyen, C.Ss.R., who died on April 14, 2024, at the rectory of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Redemptorist Church in Kansas City, MO. A joyful and energetic Redemptorist missionary, Fr. Gan sprinkled conversations with humor and never met a stranger, welcoming one and all with an inclusive, loving spirit. Nho Thi Nguyen and Ui Van Nguyen welcomed Gan Minh on August 7, 1964, in Vietnam. He grew up in a large family of 14 children and was 11 years old when his family fled Vietnam and immigrated to the United States. They settled in Biloxi, MS, where Gan became involved in the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Movement (VEYM) in grade school. He completed high school and earned a degree in electronic engineering technology, but the VEYM had nourished his vocation call. He remained involved in that organization and was devoted to youth ministry for his entire life.
Gan began Redemptorist formation with the Extra- Patriam Vice Province in California, but eventually transferred to the former Vice Province of New Orleans. He professed first vows on July 31, 1993, and perpetual vows on September 7, 1997. During his years in formation, he gained practical experience serving in parish and youth ministry at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Chicago, IL and St. Gerard Majella Parish in Baton Rouge, LA. He was ordained to the priesthood on February 14, 1998, in Baton Rouge, and immediately joined the staff as a parish priest. A year later he was appointed at Holy Ghost Parish in Houston, where he held additional responsibilities as community bursar. Fr. Gan joined the Redemptorist Mission Team at St. Michael’s in Chicago in 2008. He enjoyed traveling across the country to preach parish missions, always allowing time to personally visit family members and friends living throughout the United States. He was appointed at Liguori Mission House in Liguori, MO in 2010. Although he remained attached to the community, he served five of the next six years as a military chaplain at White Sands Missile Range in Las Cruces, NM. Fr. Gan returned to Houston in 2016 as parochial vicar of Holy Ghost Church. Three years later, he was appointed local superior of the St. Clement Redemptorist Mission Community in Liguori. He is remembered for welcoming one and all to St. Clement’s, and hosting large gatherings at every opportunity. He instituted an All Souls Day Mass at the Redemptorist Cemetery, which has become an important annual tradition for the local community. Fr. Gan was appointed associate pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Redemptorist Parish in Kansas City last year. He quickly became involved in the community and served the parish until his unexpected death. He recently summed up his life as, “I’m a fisherman by trade; an electronic engineer by profession; and a Redemptorist priest by choice.”
Visitation will be 6 - 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 26 followed by a Memorial Mass at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Redemptorist Church, 3333 Broadway Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64111.Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 12 p.m., Saturday, April 27 at Church of the Holy Martyrs, 4101 E. 105th Terrace, Kansas City, MO 64137.
A wake will take place at 7 p.m., Monday, April 29 at St. Clement's Chapel, Liguori, MO. Mass will take place at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 30 at St. Clement's Chapel, followed by burial at the Redemptorist Cemetery.

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It is usually published in a newspaper, online obituary website, or funeral home's website.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a sense of closure and help to celebrate the life of the deceased.

Who typically writes an obituary?

The responsibility of writing an obituary usually falls on the family members or close friends of the deceased. Funeral homes or obituary writers may also assist in writing the obituary.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include funeral service details and charitable donation information.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary, but it's generally recommended to keep it concise, ranging from 100 to 500 words. The goal is to provide a brief summary of the person's life without overwhelming readers with too much information.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and newspapers allow you to include one or multiple photos of the deceased. This can help to personalize the obituary and make it more engaging for readers.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and deadlines. You may need to provide the written obituary, payment information, and any required documentation.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary before they pass away. This can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that their life story is told accurately and in their own words.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, usually including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary provides more detailed information about the person's life and accomplishments.

Can I edit or update an obituary after it's been published?

This depends on the publication or platform where the obituary was published. Some may allow edits or corrections, while others may not. It's best to check with the publisher beforehand.

Can I create a memorial website for my loved one?

What is the difference between a funeral notice and an obituary?

A funeral notice typically includes details about the funeral service, such as date, time, location, and officiant. An obituary focuses on celebrating the life of the deceased rather than providing logistical information about the funeral.

Can I include charitable donation information in an obituary?

Yes! Including charitable donation information in an obituary allows friends and family to make donations in lieu of flowers or other tributes. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased's memory and legacy.

How do I find archived obituaries?

Can I use an obituary as a template for writing my own eulogy?

Absolutely! An obituary can serve as a useful starting point for crafting a eulogy. You can expand on the information provided in the obituary and add personal anecdotes to create a heartfelt tribute.

What is the significance of publishing an obituary in multiple languages?

Publishing an obituary in multiple languages ensures that all family members and friends, regardless of their linguistic background, can read and understand the tribute to their loved one.
