King; and son in law, Wally Crosby. Dorothy was born on, March 12, 1949, at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater.  She graduated from Largo High School and moved to Tarpon Springs.  She worked at Tarpon Zoo, Cycle Springs Yamaha, helped Wes run and operate their “13 Safford Avenue Saloon”, worked at Curlew Country Home, Cardinal Mini Storage and Southeast Personnel Leasing.  The zoo was her absolute favorite place to work.
Dorothy was a devoted wife and was married for 55 years to her teenage sweetheart. She loved her two children, Bryon and Brenda more than words can express, and her grandson Cannon was her entire world. She spent any spare time hanging out with him. She was a thoughtful daughter, loving aunt and sweet Godmother. Dorothy was a friend to many.  She loved the elderly and enjoyed all of her children’s friends.  Through the years she became more and more  passionate about caring for animals, it didn’t matter what kind, she loved them all.  She would sweet talk to a chicken in the same voice as she would a puppy.
Her artistic spirit grew as the years went by.  She stopped buying greeting cards, preferring to create personal ones for all of her family.  These beautiful intricate cards are treasured.  Her time intensive handiwork and exquisite attention to detail is something that will be missed dearly.
Happy memories of long weekends at the Suwannee River, camping in North Carolina, motorcycle races, football games, beach days, cookouts, music and laughter.  She will be so very missed and forever in our hearts.

Helen "Cookie" Elizabeth Knapp - December 07, 1943 - February 16, 2022

Departed: 02/16/2022 (Tarpon Springs)
Obituary Preview: Helen Elizabeth Knapp, 78, passed away peacefully at home on the night of February 16th, with her devoted husband, their son, daughter, and family members by her side.  We have no doubt heavenly angels are welcoming our dear “Cookie” home. Cookie was the youngest child, born in Monmouth, Illinois on December 7, 1943 to her parents, Lee and Mary Poershmann Shelton of Kirkwood, IL.  She outlived her brothers, Eddie and Sam Shelton, and her sisters, Ruth Anne Vail and Norma Lee Seager.
Look no further than her adoring family to find the joy and purpose of her life.  She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 60 years, James (Jim) R. Knapp, who provided special care for her during her long, progressive illness of the last fifteen years. They built a beautiful life together in Bloomington, and later Rockford, IL, where Cookie helped Jim establish a successful State Farm agency.   She had wonderful, special relationships with her children and their spouses: her son, Darren, and daughter-in-law, Sheila, Chicago; her daughter Julie, and son-in-law, Tim Whitaker, Bloomington.
Her true talent was her natural way of making each family member, friend, co-worker, and neighbor feel absolutely, special, important, and celebrated.  She delighted in being “Grandma” to her wonderful grandchildren, Jackson, Jimmy, Joe, Harrison, Benjamin, and Andrea. Cookie played a special part in the lives of nieces, Mary Anne (husband, Joe) Marx, and Elizabeth (husband, Bill) Nigh, as well as their children and grandchildren.  She leaves many other nieces, nephews, and extended family members.  Also surviving are her first cousins, Phyllis (husband, Ron) Fogel and Vern (wife, Joan) Shelton, as well as her brother-in law, John (wife, Alice) Knapp.   It would be impossible to list the names of everyone she touched in her time on earth. She would say she felt happiest with a shell in her pocket and sand between her toes, but her abiding love was her family and many close friends, near and far.  Her memory will be cherished by each of them.
The family especially thanks Tina and Ginger who gave her loving care during her last few months.
Memorial services will be postponed until Cookie’s husband, Jim, completes his recovery from cancer.  Her ashes will then be interred in Kirkwood, IL.

Doris June Strang - November 29, 1928 - January 15, 2022

Departed: 01/15/2022 (Tarpon Springs)
Obituary Preview: Doris June Flanagan Strang, 93, of Hernando, formerly of Tarpon Springs, passed away on January 15, 2022. She was born on November 29 1928, in Tarpon Springs. She graduated from Tarpon Springs High School and married John Richard Strang on December 1, 1946.  She worked at North Ward Elementary School in Clearwater as the office secretary for 25 years. After retiring she and her husband (known as Papa) sold their home in Clearwater to split their time between the Lake house in Hernando and the mountain house in Franklin NC. It was just a few years ago that she sold the NC house and moved full time back to Florida. She is survived by two daughters, Annette Good and Karen Benoit; six grandchildren, Shawna, twin boys, Jeremiah & Joshua, Jessica, Kristen and Danny; twelve great grandchildren, Victoria, Allyssa, Gabriella, Tristan, Levi, Ireland, Olivia, Gavin, Felicity, Desiree, Ethan and Lincoln Ryann Kay;  and her very first great great grandson, Carson Reed. She loved getting text messages and pictures from her grandkids. She said she felt like she was right there with them YES, she texted at age 93. She couldn't believe how technology has changed over the years. Nonie, as we all called her was an avid gardener. She always had a beautiful lawn no matter where she lived with steppingstones from the creeks of North Carolina, carrying them down the mountain herself. Bromeliads, stag-horns and many other beautiful plants were always perfectly placed around her lawn. She loved to share her plants with us to replant in our yards. She loved receiving bouquets of flowers watching them bloom and open every day until the petals fell. Flowers made her happy. She enjoyed living on the lake and watching the fisherman come and go.  When they stayed out to long, she worried about them and told them so when they came back in. She never turned down a boat ride. If she was invited, she was going.  She loved to do her daily crossword puzzles (with a pen, mind you) and became very upset if the newspaper was late not to mention if it skipped her altogether that day. Jig saw Puzzles, Scrabble, Bingo, solitaire and Dominoes were her favorite. She was very competitive. She didn't like to lose.  For those of you that have played Dominoes with Nonie, you know she plays a serious game. (Penny on Penny off) Nonie was very very independent, strong willed and determined to remain that way.  She cooked her own meals, paid her own bills and still drove close to home. If it wasn't for Covid she'd still be driving to Walmart.  That was a blessing in disguise. She drove herself to the hair salon just last week. She always said her hair was her crown of glory.   A couple of funny stories: a few years ago, Dan and Karen left for a 6-week cross country trip.  She knew the family didn't want her making the drive to NC alone anymore, so she packed herself up and waited for them to leave. She loaded the car and took off to her mountain house, driving straight through stopping only for gas. The last little prank she would have loved to do: While at the hospital, just days before she passed away, she told the doctor "I'm just going to go home, and I'll come back tomorrow" And she would have if she could have.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00, on Thursday, January 27, at the First United Methodist Church, Tarpon Springs. Inurnment will take place at Cycadia Cemetery.

Sheryll "Shoi" Grace (Delfin) Caballes - September 29, 1975 - December 22, 2021

Departed: 12/22/2021 (Tarpon Springs)
Obituary Preview: Sheryll Grace “Shoi” Delfin Caballes, 46, of Tarpon Springs, went to be with her Heavenly Father on, December 22, 2021. She was born in, Cebu City, Philippines on, September 29, 1975, to her parents, Gregorio and Shirley Delfin. Shoi and her husband, Germel Caballes, were married on, October 28, 1993 and were blessed with five beautiful children during their 28 years together - Symone (27), Seth (23), Shermaine (20), Savannah (14), and Sebastian (11). She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Velez College in Cebu City in 1997, before moving to the United States with her family in 2005. Shoi was an active and beloved member of the community, as a parishioner of St. Ignatius of Antioch in Tarpon Springs, through her support of the high school and collegiate athletics programs for her children, and her loving and joyful involvement in the lives of her neighbors, family, co-workers, and friends. She expressed her passion for giving through her work at St. Joseph’s Hospital as a Registered Nurse in the Pre-Operative Unit. She is remembered by her co-workers for her endless optimism, her work ethic, and her profound sense of empathy for her patients. Patient comfort and quality of care were the focal points of her work, and a reflection of her nurturing nature. Above all things, Shoi valued time spent together with her family, and strived to instill that same appreciation in her children. She would often use her personal leave to spend time with them, whether it was going on coffee dates with Symone, watching some of her favorite movies with Sebastian, or shopping with her daughters, Shermaine and Savannah. Shoi would make time for every member of her family. She would regularly make trips to visit her oldest son Seth, in Georgia, if only to just have lunch for the day, or go to spin class in Dunedin with her husband, Germel, and take naps with her one-year-old Havanese, Teddy. Her love for her family was boundless, and Shoi expressed this love each and every day. Shoi also found happiness in the pursuit of her two favorite pastimes: crafting and travel. Even in these pursuits, her generosity and selflessness would abound; despite her fear of heights, she would plan trips to the mountains with her family and would frequently give homemade gifts with her Cricut. Shoi will be remembered as a bright light in all of lives that she touched, and she touched a great many lives. She was a source of comfort, happiness, encouragement, and support to a family and to a community. Quick to smile, to laugh, to remember a birthday or anniversary, and never missed an opportunity to share her warmth with those around her. Shoi is survived by her husband, five loving children; her mother, Shirley; her brother, Janice Ian; and her sister, Sarah. She was preceded in death by her father, Gregorio. She will be missed but will forever live in our hearts.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 5:00 pm, on, Thursday, the 30th day of December 2021 at St. Ignatius of Antioch Catholic Church, in Tarpon Springs, FL.
