James L. Simmons - August 06, 1946 - July 17, 2022

Departed: 07/17/2022 (Vilonia)
Obituary Preview: James Leon "Bud" Simmons finished his earthly journey on July 17, 2022. He passed away just as he prayed he would, at his home in Vilonia, Arkansas, surrounded by his family. God, being the merciful Father He is, saw fit to honor his son's prayers for a quick and peaceful transition from this life to the next. With his family at his side, he peacefully drew his last breaths calmly and slowly. The lung disease that plagued so much of his final years was unable to steal from him a gentle and serene transition into the arms of his savior. Family members were able to encourage him, cheer him on, and rejoice as he ran into the open arms of Jesus! 1 Corinthians 15:54-55 says it best, "Death is swallowed up in victory." "Oh death, where is your sting? O grave, where is your victory?"Bud was preceded in death by his parents, James Willie and Maymie Sue Simmons, two sisters, Wanda Delorisa Lewis and Virginia Ann Cole, and one brother, John William Simmons. He temporarily leaves behind his beautiful brinde of 54 years, Edith Simmons of Vilonia, Arkansas; two daughters, Eydie Simmons (Heath) of Vilonia, Arkansas; Lisa Simmons of Heber Springs, Arkansas; two sons, Ronnie Simmons (Kimberly) and Mike Simmons (Janet) of Vilonia, Arkansas; one sister, Billie Collins of Vilonia, Arkansas; Harvey Simmons (Dale). He was Papa to seven adoring grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Those who called him "friend" are too numerous to count! For those of us left behind, life will be much different. His quick wit, frequent "I love you's" and his willingness to do anything possible to help out anyone in need were trademarks of Bud Simmons. He was small in stature, but one of the biggest and strongest men we knew. He never walked away from a difficult task and readily took on every challenge that came before him. The family has planned a memorial service to celebrate his life at 10:00 AM, Friday, July 22, 2022 in the Friendship Baptist Church Family Life Center, 767 Rocky Point Road, Conway, Arkansas 72032. Family and friends are invited to this informal time of fellowship -- no ties allowed!

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including biographical information, details about their life, and information about their funeral or memorial service. It serves as a way to share the news of a loved one's passing with friends, family, and community.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries play a significant role in honoring the deceased, providing closure for those who are grieving, and serving as a historical record of a person's life. They also give friends and family an opportunity to pay tribute to their loved one and share memories.

What information is typically included in an obituary?

A standard obituary usually includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include details about the funeral or memorial service, such as the date, time, location, and burial site.

Who writes an obituary?

In most cases, the obituary is written by the family of the deceased, often with the assistance of a funeral home or mortuary. In some cases, a close friend or colleague may also contribute to the writing process.

How long does it take to write an obituary?

The time it takes to write an obituary can vary depending on the complexity of the information and the writer's familiarity with the deceased. On average, it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours to craft a well-written and comprehensive obituary.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, you can write your own obituary in advance. This is often referred to as a "self-written" or "pre-written" obituary. Writing your own obituary can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that your life story is told in your own words.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, usually including only basic information such as name, age, date of death, and funeral arrangements. An obituary, on the other hand, provides more detailed information about the person's life and legacy.

Where are obituaries typically published?

Obituaries are commonly published in local newspapers, online obituary platforms, funeral home websites, and social media sites. They may also be shared through email or printed on memorial cards.

Can I make changes to an obituary after it has been published?

What if I want to keep my loved one's obituary private?

If you prefer to keep your loved one's obituary private, you can request that it not be published publicly or shared on social media. You can also opt for a private online memorial page instead.

Can I include charitable donations or memorial contributions in an obituary?

Yes, it is common to include information about charitable donations or memorial contributions in an obituary. This allows friends and family to make a donation in lieu of flowers or other gestures.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or online platform?

You can usually submit an obituary through the newspaper's website or by contacting their editorial department directly. Online platforms often have submission forms or guidelines on their websites.
