LeRoy A. Rohlfs was born on May 25, 1938 to Herman and Florence Rohlfs. He passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon, IA. LeRoy grew up on the family farm south of Boyden with his brother Ray. He graduated from Boyden High School in 1955.
LeRoy married his high school sweetheart, Nelva Moret, on November 26, 1958. They made their home and raised their four children, Darrell, Bradley, Stacie and Chad, in Boyden. LeRoy and Nelva celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2018, just a few months prior to her passing in March 2019. LeRoy was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. A long, hard day at work was common for him as he farmed 80 acres, raised feeder cattle, and worked at Smit & Son to provide for his family. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren. He faithfully attended hundreds of ballgames, plays, musicals, and concerts over the years to encourage those he loved. LeRoy was a longtime member of the United Presbyterian Church and the Otter Valley Country Club.
LeRoy loved to play and watch sports. While in school, he played baseball and basketball; as a young adult he joined the town softball team; and later he participated in golf and bowling leagues. He found great joy in watching or listening to the games of the Boyden-Hull Comets, Iowa Hawkeyes, LA Dodgers, Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings. Fishing was a favorite pastime for LeRoy and Nelva and their family. Many memories were made on fishing trips to northern Minnesota and Lake Okoboji. When he wasn't playing or watching sports, you could find LeRoy tending his large and bountiful garden, drinking coffee with friends, or enjoying a card game.
LeRoy was a kind, good-natured, and honest man who was loved and respected by many. He took everything in stride and maintained a positive attitude no matter what circumstances life brought his way. His family is thankful for that legacy and inspired to follow his example.
LeRoy is survived by his children: Darrell (Heather) of Spirit Lake, IA and Jupiter, FL; Bradley (Nancy) of Boyden; Stacie (Glenn) Tomkins of Windsor, WI; and Chad (Melissa) of Glendale, AZ; 8 grandchildren: Alex Rohlfs (Deryck) Hoogendoorn; Zach and Noah Rohlfs; Deven, Carter and Kolby Tomkins; Lauren and Landon Rohlfs; and 2 great-grandchildren: Alayla Jaylee and Coralline Hoogendoorn.

He is also survived by many nephews and nieces. LeRoy's family will miss him dearly.

Mildred “Millie” Zenk, Prairie View Nursing Home, Sanborn, Iowa and formerly of Boyden, Iowa, went to be with her loving Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at the age of 99.
Mildred Julia Zenk was born on November 7, 1921 on the Dickmann family farm northeast of Hull, Iowa to Charles and Anna (Fick) Dickmann. She attended Wheeler #9 Country School near her farm home until the 8th grade and later graduated from the George High School. Millie was the last surviving member of the class of 1939. She was also the last of the older Dickmann generation consisting of herself and her four brothers and their spouses, Alfred & Elsie, Bob & Mildred, Ted & Frances and Clarence & Skipper.
Millie attended St. Paul Lutheran Church near Hull with her parents when she was young and was baptized and confirmed there. Later she met her husband, William “Bill” Zenk there and after he returned from World War II, they married on September 6, 1945. They were together for nearly 71 years. Bill passed away on July 10, 2016.
Millie & Bill farmed northwest of Hull for 36 years, providing a wonderful farm life for their two children, Leslie and Gayle. On Thanksgiving Day, 1981, they retired and moved to their home in Boyden, where they lived for 34+ good years. They became members of St. John’s Lutheran Church and later attended the Presbyterian Church in town. Millie loved “looking after” the neighbors… and they were very good to Millie and Bill. After Bill passed away, Millie moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon, Iowa, where she loved living for three years and made many new, good friends. Needing more care, she moved to Fieldcrest in Sheldon, Iowa in 2019 and in the summer of 2020, after suffering a stroke, she moved to Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn, where she passed away.
During her life of nearly 100 years, Millie enjoyed so many things-fishing, bowling, biking, mopedding, baking, cooking (she was a great cook), quilting, making dozens of fleece blankets for everyone, shopping, going to the Spencer Fair, Monday outings with Gayle, coffee at Pomegranate Market in Sioux Falls…But most of all Millie loved the many years she played softball on the Boyden team and was so proud to have Les as her coach. She also was a dedicated caregiver always ready to help out her family and those she served as a nurse’s aid.
Millie loved her family deeply and leaves behind her son, Leslie and his wife, Connie Zenk of Vinton, IA, and a daughter, Gayle Ten Haken of Boyden, IA; 4 grandchildren, Betsey (Ramsey) Nuseibeh; Bill (Melissa) Zenk; Anna (Brandon) Marcotte; Jane Ten Haken; along with 7 great grandchildren, and 1 sister-in-law, Shirley Zenk of Denison, IA, as well as many dear nieces, nephews and friends.

Gary P. D'Agrosa - June 30, 1947 - April 04, 2019

Departed: 04/04/2019 (Boyden)
Obituary Preview: Gary P. D’Agrosa Boyden, Iowa
The Celebration of Life Service for Gary P. D’Agrosa, age 71, of Boyden, who passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Sanford Sheldon Senior Care, Sheldon, Iowa, will be Friday, May 17 at 12:00 noon at the Crossroads Pavilion Event Center in Sheldon, Iowa. Donations may be made in Gary’s memory to Lutheran World Relief,
Alzheimer’s Association, or The Nature Conservancy.
Arrangements are under the care of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Boyden. Gary P. D’Agrosa
Gary Peter D’Agrosa, son of Peter and Barbara (Clinco) D’Agrosa, was born June 30, 1947 in New York City. The son of second-generation Italian emigrants, he was welcomed into a close-knit extended family. Siblings soon joined him. When Gary was young, the family moved to Setauket, a suburb on the North Shore of Long Island, where Gary happily spent most of his youth. He graduated from Port Jefferson High School, and Queens College in New York City. He began his teaching career at Bayview Avenue School in Freeport, N.Y., where he met Esther Stegemann. They married in 1971 and in 1973, moved to Boyden, Iowa, where Gary enjoyed farming for eighteen years. Their daughter Anna was born in 1977. He became a mediator for the state of Iowa during the farm crisis of the 1980’s: he guided farmers with unmanageable debt work with lenders to find a solution that each party could accept to avoid foreclosure. In 1991, Gary returned to teaching at the Sheldon Middle School: he coached boy’s basketball, taught driver’s education, and represented the Sheldon Education Association. He retired from that position in 2007. He was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church, Sioux Center. Gary loved to drive cars and taught himself to work on them beginning on his
father’s sports cars. In the 90s, he began to drive in auto cross events and diligently worked his way up to racetracks as a BMW performance driving instructor. He was passionate about honing his driving and mechanical skills alongside his father and brother. His fellow instructors respected his calm demeanor that often belied his intense skill and speed. Anna participated as his student and loved to ride on the track with him.
Gary’s parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Esther, their daughter, Anna, daughter in law Kristen Shuart, grandson Peter D’Agrosa Shuart, and siblings Janet (Aaron) Stegeman, Diane (John) Nesselt and Daniel (Marie) D’Agrosa.

She grew up on the family farm between Boyden and Sheldon—one of ten children—where she loved riding horses and working outside with her brothers. When Nelva was 16 years old, her mother died, and after that she stayed home from high school one day every week to take care of her younger siblings. She graduated from Boyden High School in 1957.
Nelva married her high school sweetheart, LeRoy Rohlfs, on Nov. 26, 1958. Last summer they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with the entire family and many friends. Their home was a popular gathering spot for their kids’ friends, some of whom still return to visit them decades later. They were longtime members of the United Presbyterian Church.

She liked to cook and bake and strived to serve family and friends their favorite foods when they came to visit. She loved taking care of her grandkids, and always had time to read books and play cards and board games with them.
Nelva was one of the kindest people we have ever known. She brought out the best in us, because she consistently saw the best in people and her focus was on caring for others. That’s a legacy that remains with us and inspires us to follow her example.

I need someone I can trust to take care of the land and fields. I need someone strong enough to till the soil, plant the seeds, and tend the crops. I need someone devoted enough to work 18 hours days. I need someone who will rise at dawn to milk the cows, mend the fences, and do the chores. Someone who works the fields all day, fixes the equipment ‘til dark and then stays up
half the night delivering a newborn calf. I need someone who is strong-hearted with family values of sharing, caring, and discipline. Someone who has patience yet also perseverance to go the extra mile. I need someone who is kind
enough to extend a helping hand to a neighbor. Someone who is thankful for the rain and also for the sun,
who has faith that the harvest is worth the effort. I need someone who sighs at market prices then shakes his head and
laughs because it won’t change who he is. Someone who graces you with smiling eyes and feels so proud when
his children say they want to spend their life doing what dad does. So God Created
