Obituary Preview: Dorothy E. Hasenyager, 96, of Geneseo, passed away Monday, March 9, 2015 at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 11 am on Thursday, March 12 at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Geneseo. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service from 10-11 am at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Geneseo Humane Society.
Dorothy was born on March 26, 1918 in Seattle, WA the daughter of Earl and Pearl (Joy) Wallace. She was united in marriage to Donald A. Hasenyager on January 17, 1947. He preceded her in death. Dorothy worked in the dietary department at Hammond-Henry Hospital as well as the former Achterhoff and Rink’s Grocery store in Geneseo, and then at Farmer’s National Bank in Geneseo. She was a member of St. Malachy’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed crocheting and her pets.
She is survived by her sister Doris Goodrich, Geneseo, and several nieces and nephews.

Charles was born February 25, 1936 in Geneseo, IL the son of Fred and Celeste (Goss) Claeys. He was a graduate of Geneseo High School and proudly served his country in the US Navy. He was united in marriage to Mona M. Radue on September 24, 1960 in Geneseo, IL. Charles was a farmer in rural Geneseo for many years. He also was a truck driver for many various companies for many years and for the last 15 years he drove for Consolidated Freight from which he retired. Charles belonged to the Geneseo Moose Lodge #990. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, cooking and gardening.
Survivors include he wife: Mona; sons: Jim (Linda) Claeys and Ron Claeys both of Geneseo; daughter Stacy Claeys of Iowa City; grandchildren: Eric Claeys, Brian Claeys, Nicki (Ted) Stoops, Kelsey (Brandon) Cherry, Tyler Claeys, and Emma Claeys; great grandchildren: Kaylea, Grace, Charlee, Lilly, and Luke.

David was born on February 15, 1938 in Geneseo, IL the son of Leo and Elodie (Hamerlinck) DeCrane. He was united in marriage to Maxine A. Swaynghame on August 20, 1960 in Greenville, SC. She preceded him in death on February 17, 2014. David proudly served with the US Air Force from 1957 – 1961. He was a tool and die maker for John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline for 30 years. He also was a sign painter for many years doing painting for a lot of local organizations and farmer.
David was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Dave not only enjoyed woodworking, but was very accomplished at it. He also enjoyed building and flying model airplanes as well as old cars.

A funeral service celebrating her life will be at 4:00 pm on Sunday, March 8 at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Geneseo. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 9 at Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, IA. A visitation will be from 2-4 pm on Sunday (2 hours prior to the service) at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Good Samaritan Society – Geneseo Village.
Born Dalene Ann Sobehart on October 11, 1932 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she was the daughter of John and Bessie (Klima) Sobehart. Dalene graduated Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids. She worked for a period of time in the office of Dr. E.L. Grandon. Dalene was united in marriage to Louis H. Ford on October 14, 1967 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. Louis preceded her in death on February 2, 1981.
Dalene lived in Cedar Rapids until July 1, 2010 when she moved to Good Samaritan Geneseo Village to be closer to her only son’s family. She had just recently moved to Woodridge Supportive Living Residence in Geneseo.
Dalene was a tremendously sweet and caring woman, volunteering at Mercy Hospital during her time in Cedar Rapids. Her family and friends will miss her cheery outlook and encouraging words, along with the caramels, cookies, and Czech kolaches she was famous for baking.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Beth (Luckenbill) Ford of Geneseo, and her two beloved grandchildren, Ben and Danny.

John was born on July 30, 1930 in Geneseo, IL the son of John L. and Fern (Adams) Raschke. He graduated from Geneseo High School in 1947 and went on to Augustana College, where he graduated in 1951 with a degree in Political Science and History. He proudly served in the US Army with service in the Korean war. John was united in marriage to Ann C. Horswell on February 26, 1956 in Des Plaines, IL. John was a lifetime grain and livestock farmer in rural Geneseo.
John was a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he served as Trustee and Chairman. He was the Clerk of Edford Township for many years. He was a member of the Henry County Farm Bureau, Henry County Pork Producers, and Henry County Livestock Feeders Association. He served as President of the State of Illinois Livestock Feeders Association and as a member of the National Cattlemen Association Board of Directors. John was elected to the Black Hawk College Board of Trustees for 9 years, and served as Chairman for 2. He was also elected to the Geneseo School Board for 8 years, serving as Chairman for 6. He enjoyed tutoring at the grade schools, reading and public speaking. He loved spending time with family.

Albert was born February 6, 1929 in Oak Park, IL the son of Joseph and Anna (Rachel ) Schrieber. He was united in marriage to Margaret Meng on June 21, 1980 in Chicago, IL. Albert was a truck driver and retired from Swiss Colony in 2005 after working there for 10 years as a sorter and filler.
Albert belonged to the Faith Walk World Outreach Church. He enjoyed John Wayne movies, bowling, and spur of the moment car rides to go sightseeing. He was a hard worker his entire life.

Don was born on November 19, 1935 in Annawan, IL the son of Edward and Alma (DeBlieck) Vandersnick. He was a 1953 graduate of Annawan High School and proudly served in the US Navy. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Driessens on January 21, 1956 at Sacred Heart Church in Annawan. Don was a lifetime grain and livestock farmer in Annawan, IL as well as selling Crow’s seed corn for many years.
Don had belonged to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Annawan for most of his life, before moving to Geneseo when he joined St. Malachy Catholic Church. He was a member of the VFW in Annawan, the American Legion in Mineral, and the Moose Lodge in Geneseo. He was a Trustee for the Annawan/ Alba Fire Department; on the Board of Directors for Black Hawk College; and on the Co-Op Board in Geneseo. Don was an avid dog lover and was known for having his dog accompanying him all over.

The former Alma N. Francque was born December 14, 1914 in Atkinson, IL. She was the daughter of Leo and Romaine (Vervynck) Francque. Alma was united in marriage to William F. Wyffels August 16, 1941 at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church, Geneseo. He preceded her in death on August 29, 1974. She was a homemaker and founding partner, along with her husband, of Wyffels Hybrids.
Alma was dedicated to her faith, her family, and her community. She was a woman of quiet strength and resilience. Over the span of her 100 years, she witnessed more changes in rural life than perhaps any other generation, so those wonderful qualities served her well.
Alma likely would have described herself as a simple farm wife. She was that and more. With an entrepreneurial husband working to build a successful farm and family seed business, she was the keeper of the family household of six children, which on any given day could be a mix of calm and chaos. Alma was a loving and caring mother who fostered in her children an appreciation for education, music and creativity and taught them what mattered most in life and the importance of doing one’s best. She also graced her family with what they believed were the best pies in Henry County and passed that skill to her daughters and daughters-in-law.
Alma was a member of St. Malachy’s Catholic Church of Geneseo, the Social Justice Committee of St. Malachy’s, and the Atkinson Women’s Club.
Survivors include 5 children: Joan (Jim) Van Lauwe of St. Peters, MO, Judy (Larry) Ahearn of Gardner, IL, Janice (George) Ralph of Loveland, CO, Bill (Jane) Wyffels of Geneseo, and Bob (Vicky) Wyffels of Geneseo; 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Bowser on December 4, 1955 in Lawrence, Kansas. He worked as a machine operator at B.L. Anderson in Cedar Rapids, IA and later as a welder at Hawk Bilt in Vinton, IA.
Clarence was a 50 year member of the Vinton Presbyterian Church in Vinton, IA. He was a collector of trivets and SAD Irons , a hobby which introduced him to new friends all over the world. He was a member of the Midwest SAD Irons Collectors Club. His greatest joy was his family.

He was united in marriage to Betty L. Stamper on September 4, 1946. He later married Naify “Elizabeth” Saunders and she preceded him in death in 2013. Harry had been the owner/operator of Harry Johnson Builders in Geneseo for 40 years, from which he retired. Harry was a member of First United Methodist Church in Geneseo. He was also a member of the Stewart Masonic Lodge of Geneseo and the VFW. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and woodworking.

Donna was born April 15, 1951 in Joliet, IL the daughter of Donald and Audrey (Deiss) Abens. She was a 1969 graduate of Geneseo High School. In her early career, Donna was a home health aide and then worked at the University of Iowa as a switchboard operator for 15 years. When Donna lived in Geneseo she attended St. Malachy Catholic Church. She enjoyed crafting and needlepointing to send as gifts to friends. Donna especially enjoyed writing letters and notes to her family and friends.

Dale was born on January 10, 1937 in Burns Township (Kewanee), IL the son of Ira and Ruby (Linstrom) Casteel. He attended school in Cambridge. He was united to Sharon K. Waller on November 11, 1961 in Geneseo, IL. Dale was a lifetime farmer in rural Cambridge. He lived and worked on the family farm since he was 4 years old.
Dale loved farming on the family farm. He had a passion for Minneapolis-Moline Tractors. He loved collecting and restoring them and was a founding member of the Minneapolis-Moline Collectors Club, where he had been a former Board member. He also belonged to the Prairie Gold Rush Club.

A celebration of life service will be held 7:00 PM Monday, February 9, 2015 at Vandemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Geneseo. Deacon Bob Vogelbaugh will officiate. Cremation rites will follow the service. Visitation for Curtis will be held 4-7 PM Monday (3 hours prior to the service) at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Curtis Billiet Memorial Fund. The family would like to invite friends to bring any photos they have of Curtis to put on a memory board at the service.
Curtis was born December 11, 1964 in Geneseo, IL the son of Dennis Billiet and Peggy Williams. He was a 1983 graduate of J.D. Darnell High School in Geneseo. Curtis was currently working as a maintenance electrician at LeClaire Manufacturing in LeClaire, IA. Curtis was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and especially enjoyed his Harley.
Survivors include his children: Reese Billiet of Colona, IL and Aieden Billiet of Geneseo, IL; his parents: Dennis (Joyce) Billiet of Geneseo and Peggy Williams of Geneseo; sister: Wendy VanWinkle of Geneseo; niece: Jody Thompson of Geneseo; great niece: Gracie; fiancé: Tracy Holdampf of Moline; her children: Tara, Shawn, and Jake; and grandchildren Kainin and Gabriel; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Obituary Preview: Robert L. “Bob” Arnett, 84, of Geneseo passed away Monday, February 2, 2015 at Marigold Rehab and Health Care Center, Galesburg, IL. Funeral services celebrating Bob’s life will be held 10:30 AM Friday, February 6, 2015 at First Lutheran Church, Geneseo. Rev. Lynn Bergren will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Bloom Cemetery, Tiskilwa, IL. Visitation for Bob will be held 5-7 PM Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. Memorials may be left to the Robert Arnett Memorial Fund.
Bob was born May 18, 1930 in Princeton, IL, the son of Oscar and Helen (Brady) Arnett. He was educated in several different schools, due to this father’s occupation with AT&T Co. He attended schools in Tiskilwa, Geneseo, Princeton, and graduated from Abingdon in 1948. He took part in several sports including basketball, cross country, and track. Bob was united in marriage to Lorece L. Hall on April 8, 1950 in Wataga, IL. They moved to Geneseo and following his passion, he began working for and driving truck for some of the “original bull haulers”, including Red Swanson, Hank Pritchard, and Bob Benoodt. In 1965 he went to work for Dohrn Transfer and worked there for 16 years until it closed. Bob also worked for Edwards Ready-Mix hauling sand and gravel for the big flood of 1965. Bob then worked for Murphy’s Motor Freight and then retired from Holland Motors in 1997.
Bob was a faithful man and belonged to First Lutheran Church, Geneseo, having served as an usher there for many years. Bob enjoyed being in several breakfast clubs including the Bull Haulers, meeting at the Deck and Parkway. He also belonged to his 371 Teamsters at the Windmill in East Moline. His love for collecting toy scale model trucks from Winross Co became a hobby.
Survivors include his wife: Lorece; 3 sons: Dennis Arnett of Moline, Gary Arnett of Lake Wells, FL, and Tim (Rebecca) Arnett of Geneseo; 6 grandchildren: Jeff of Flag Staff, AZ, Jennifer (Scott) Daniel of Coal Valley, Ben of Davenport, Bryan of Coal Valley, Flynn of Geneseo, and Ray Malone of Moline, IL; 4 great-grandchildren: Skylla of WI, Mystique of WI, Brady of Coal Valley, and Rose Malone of Moline; and 1 great-great grandchild: Ryland of WI.

He graduated from Erie High School and proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Evelyn F. “Effie” VanOteghen on February 18, 1950 in Moline, IL. She preceded him in death in 2006. Tom was a lifetime farmer in the Erie and Geneseo areas and moved to Erie after he retired. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Moline. He was an avid and talented woodworker.
He is survived by his sister: Jackie Hamilton of Silvis, IL, as well as several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Resser on December 20, 1947 in Geneseo. He preceded her in death in 2006. She taught school in a one room school house for Pink Prairie School and then assisted her husband, Lyle, on the family farm for many years.
Ava was a member of First United Methodist Church, Geneseo and the First United Methodist Women. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and working in her yard. Ava also enjoyed doing puzzles and reading.
Survivors include her son Dean A. Resser (Laura and her children: Shawn and Nikki, and Nikki’s 2 children: Makayla, and Tristan) of Geneseo; sister-in-law: Gladys Swanson of Geneseo; 1 niece; several nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
