Christine Nantell - May 15, 1949 - May 10, 2024

Departed: 05/10/2024 (Novato)
Obituary Preview: Christine ("Chris") Louise Nantell, née Loeser, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away on May 10, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in 1949 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Donald and Marjorie Loeser. Chris was the second child and first daughter in a family of 12 children. She began her education at St. Mary's School in Elm Grove Wisconsin before the family moved to the West Coast, settling in Walnut Creek, Calif. It was here among the walnut orchards that young Chris and her sisters spent the afternoons riding their horses, beginning what would become a lifelong love of horseback riding. Years later, the family returned to the Midwest where Chris attended Catholic Memorial High School in Waukesha, Wisconsin. It was at CMH that Chris met her future husband James ("Jim") Nantell. After high school, both Chris and Jim attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison. They married in 1970 and after Jim's graduation from Madison, Chris completed an application for him to pursue a master's degree at San Francisco State University (which allowed her to return to California). Chris and Jim chose to make their home on the Peninsula, where Chris embarked on a distinguished 30-year career in the airline industry at San Francisco International Airport. Her journey began in reservations for Western Airlines, and over the span of three decades, she excelled in diverse roles such as reservations, ticket counter operations, boarding gate management, and supervisory positions overseeing flight attendants based out of SFO. Jim and Chris were blessed with four children: daughters Erin, Ashley and Madeline and son Michael. All four children attended Our Lady of Angels (OLA) in Burlingame. The family loved being a part of the OLA parish for over 30 years. After retiring from Delta Airlines, Chris joined Father Donal Burke in fundraising for the Capuchin Franciscan Friars retirement fund. Over the years, Chris excelled in customer service both in her airline career and in helping her husband Jim, and brother-in-law, Peter Nantell on the logistics of large participatory events including The San Francisco Marathon and the Bay to Breakers (despite the fact that the latter event always competed with her own birthday!)One of the perks of her airline employment was flying privileges. Using this benefit, Chris planned family vacations to destinations such as Hawaii, London, Paris, and Prague. She had a knack for always finding the most perfect souvenirs to bring back home to share. To keep in touch with her large family in Wisconsin, she also organized annual trips to the lake country in Waukesha County. Chris passed on her love of horseback riding to her eldest daughter, Erin, and granddaughter, Reese. In retirement, Chris and Jim moved to the Town of Windsor in Sonoma County where Chris, Erin and Reese have been able to enjoy their love of horses together. Chris' sister Amy and niece Hillary also joined her at local horse shows and for trail rides in the beautiful parks of Sonoma County. For Chris, her family was everything. Having served as a second mother to many of her siblings growing up, she invited them to follow her back to California. She was delighted to have her mother and nine siblings return to the West Coast; three of which have remained and raised their own families in California. Chris was a fabulous cook and an exceptional baker who loved entertaining friends, family and relatives for the holidays and other family celebrations. In Windsor, Chris continued the tradition of hosting regular family gatherings, eagerly anticipated by not only her children but also her young grandchildren. They delighted in swimming in the pool and savoring whatever special dessert Grandma had lovingly prepared from scratch for the occasion. In her later years, as her health declined, the compassionate care provided by her husband Jim and daughter Madeline, coupled with the consistent visits from her sister Amy, her children Erin, Ashley, Michael along with the support of family members and friends, brought her immense comfort during challenging times. The Nantell family is also extremely grateful for the care By the Bay Health provided to Chris during the last month of her life.Chris Nantell is survived by her husband of 54 years, James Nantell; daughters Erin Pasero (Jason) and Ashley Burke (John); son Michael Nantell; daughter Madeline Nantell; grandchildren Dominic and Reese Pasero, Jonathan and Naomi Burke. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Beth Kuehn, and is survived by sisters Mary Shovelton, Meg Miller, Amy Loeser, Joan Babbitt (Donald), Nancy Kopperud (Guy); brothers Chuck Loeser, Donald Loeser (Jody), Henry Loeser, Thomas Loeser (Ellen), Jon Loeser (Kathi); along with numerous nieces and nephews. In memory of Chris' beautiful spirit and love that she shared with all she knew, a rosary will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 19 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 8400 Old Redwood Hwy, Windsor California and a Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 21 at Our Lady of Angels, 1721 Hillside Drive in Burlingame, California.Chris will be fondly remembered for her kindness, exceptional culinary talents, flair for hosting memorable gatherings, and boundless love for her cherished family and friends. David Joe Wilson - April 09, 1952 - March 25, 2024

Departed: 03/25/2024 (Novato)
Obituary Preview: David Joe Wilson was born in San Francisco on April 9, 1952. Surrounded by his wife, Adrienne, his daughter Bethany, his son Aaron, and his mother, Barbara, Dave died peacefully at UCSF Helen Diller Medical Center on March 25, 2024 just before his 72nd birthday.
Dave grew up in South San Francisco and loved to reminisce about the “old days” playing sports. His favorites were baseball, basketball and football. (That goes for spectator sports, also.) He used to say that there is nothing more fun than playing football in the rain and mud.
He enjoyed telling stories about his family vacations growing up, his relatives, friends and pets. He attended El Camino High School, graduating in 1970 and continuing his education at San Mateo Junior College, Skyline College and San Francisco State University.
He met the love of his life, Adrienne Denise Smith on May 9th, 1975. They married on August 7, 1976 and were happily made parents with the birth of Bethany Victoria (1979) and Aaron David (1980). His love of sports reignited as he volunteered to coach, watch, and cheer on his children in all of their activities.
Dave was an excellent carpenter, painter and gardener. Every house he called his home was much improved by Dave painting, wall papering, installing French doors, sliding doors, hidden doors, a wooden banister, a new roof, even moving the laundry room from upstairs to downstairs. Dave and Aaron also remodeled the kitchen. Add these accomplishments to the beautiful gardens he created, even building decks, patios and waterfalls. No improvement or fix-it was beyond his capabilities.
Dave had a long career working as a Stationary Engineer at Marin General Hospital (now Marin Health) for 33 years. He was very proud of his work there and especially enjoyed his coworkers. Upon retirement, Dave and Adrienne were able to enjoy traveling extensively both abroad on cruises and tours, and throughout the United States and Canada in their motorhome or vehicle. They enjoyed camping in their motorhome locally, also, and did so frequently. Dave became an expert on using Ancestry and enjoyed learning about both his and Adrienne’s ancestors.
Dave was an avid pheasant hunter even when young, and always had a German Shorthair Pointer by his side throughout his life. He also raised and raced homing pigeons and while he enjoyed this immensely it ultimately caused a lung disease which necessitated a bilateral lung transplant. Thanks to UCSF and an unknown lung donor Dave was able to enjoy his family, friends and interests for almost six more years. He faced many health obstacles throughout those six years, but never complained and more often than not, greeted life with a smile. He returned his gift of life by donating to others upon his death.
Dave is survived by his wife Adrienne Denise, his daughter Bethany Selna (Kevin), his son Aaron Wilson (Mayza), four grandchildren, Susanna Denise (8), Maria Clara (8), Samuel Jay (7) and Sarah Rose (4), his mother Barbara Wilson, his sister Vicky August, and his brother Scott Wilson (Shannon). His father, Joe, preceded him in death (2022). Dave is also survived by Adrienne’s five siblings and their spouses, Burt Smith (Sara -preceded him in death in 2013), Shirley McGuire (Brian), Kaye Sanchez (Al) and Lynn Smith (Mary). Dave has many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family, including greats and great greats. Dave felt that his greatest gift in life was family and friends.
Dave was a kind, quick witted, humorous, intelligent, and quiet man, who was devoted to his family and friends and who will be deeply missed by many, but will remain in our hearts forever.
The family would like to thank everyone for the tremendous outpouring of love and support.

Jean Calvert Baird - May 22, 1956 - December 10, 2023

Departed: 12/10/2023 (Novato)
Obituary Preview: On Sunday, December 10, 2023, the world became a little less sunny and a lot less festive. Also quieter. Jean Calvert Baird passed away peacefully and unexpectedly at her home in San Anselmo, California. She was predeceased by her parents Marge and Don Calvert, and is survived by her brother Randy Calvert and his wife Karen–the sister she always wanted. Countless friends are deeply grieving her loss as well.
Jean was born on May 22, 1956. She lived her entire life in California, graduating from Fairfield High School and then earning a degree in Marketing from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Jean went to work for Chevron after college, thinking she’d stay a few years, learn a bit about business, and then find something new to do. She stayed for 37 years. In her final and favorite role before retiring, Jean hosted spectacular events for the company’s top customers. Among the once-in-a-lifetime experiences she created for guests were a dinner on the Great Wall of China, a private concert with the Vienna Boys Choir, and a backstage tour of the Paris opera house.
During the pandemic, Jean spent some of her considerable downtime looking at real estate listings in the U.K. As one does. What began as a lark turned into the adventure of her lifetime. She purchased a 350-year-old cottage, sight unseen, save the photos in the listing and a virtual walkthrough, in a darling town called Minchinhampton. With travel restrictions still in place, Jean spent six months decorating her new home remotely, somehow managing to figure out the maximum dimensions in centimeters for furniture that had to make it up or down spiral stone staircases. Her beautifully appointed home is frequently mistaken for a boutique by shoppers wandering the high street.
For the last two years, Jean divided her time between San Anselmo and Minch, as the locals call it. She immersed herself in the expat experience, learning how to drive on the opposite side of the road, convert her recipes from teaspoons and pounds to grams and kilos, and say diary instead of calendar and bin instead of trash can. She made friends easily in Minch; “the American lady” quickly became “our dear friend Jean.” She marveled at how lovely everyone was to her, never fully grasping that their warmth and kindness were reflections of hers. As one friend said upon learning of Jean’s death, a light has gone out in Minchinhampton.
Good and kind people are said to be willing to give you the shirt off their back. Always elegant, never without lipstick, Jean wouldn’t have gone shirtless–she didn’t even wear sneakers because she thought they were undignified. But she wouldn’t have hesitated to give you the vintage purse off her arm, the clunky bracelet off her wrist, and the cashmere wrap off her shoulders. Not a fan of proscribed gift-giving, she preferred to give people things she knew they’d love for no reason instead of saving them for a birthday or Christmas. Her thoughtfulness was as uncommon as it was unparalleled.
As generous as Jean was with things, she was even more generous with her time and attention. She started every conversation the same way: “Tell me what’s going on with you!” If her greatest joy was celebrating her friends’ happiness, her greatest frustration was her inability to fix what made them sad.
Jean didn’t like being the center of attention, and would be mortified by the fuss that’s been stirred up over her passing. Those of us who knew and loved her don’t care. A celebration of Jean’s life will be held in the months ahead. In the meantime, in lieu of sending flowers, buy some for yourself. White tulips were Jean’s favorite. She’d want you to enjoy them.
May she rest in peace.
