Obituary Preview: It is with heavy hearts we share that Bruce L. Folsom of Newburyport unexpectedly passed away from a massive cardiac event on April 19. Bruce was born on Jan 20 1962 at Winchester Hospital. Bruce grew up in Stoneham, MA. He attended UMass Lowell graduated from Fitchburg State with BA in nursing. Bruce worked at UMass Medical Center, and most recently Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, also Infusion Support Systems where he taught classes and to put in IV and Pic lines. Throughout the pandemic he took on all jobs he could, traveling to NH, RI and Western MA to be sure people were cared for.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Comparone and their children Francois, Elsa and Chloe of Newburyport. His sister, Lynda McGraw and her husband Thom of Beverly, nephew, Mack McGraw of Virginia, niece Maddy McGraw of Salem, his parents Inez Folsom of Cambridge, MA and Richard Folsom of Beverly, MA. He was predeceased by his twin Mark S. Folsom.

Obituary Preview: Melvin W. Russell, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving American Training family at High Pointe House in Haverhill, MA on Sunday April 17, 2022. He was born in Newburyport, MA on April 2, 1938 to the late Arthur and Lucy (Chauncey) Russell. Raised and educated in Newburyport, Melvin attended Newburyport Public Schools- Kelley School and Davenport School. Melvin attended Opportunity Works in Newburyport since 1975.
Melvin was well known in the Newburyport area. He enjoyed walking (or riding his bike) downtown and visiting local shops. Melvin loved the community meeting new people.  You could always find Melvin with a smile on his face, he had a love for life and it shined through with his sense of humor and infectious laugh.  Melvin enjoyed time in the kitchen with his housemates and colleagues, making brownies or making a can of beans for lunch, he loved to sit and have a conversation, he was a man of many questions.  Melvin touched the lives of anyone who was lucky enough to cross his path, his quick wit, smile and big heart made anyone feel welcome in his presence.
Melvin is survived by his American Training Family, especially his housemates (Chris, Jimmy, Hawley, and Steven)  and colleagues that supported him. His Opportunity Works Family since 1975. He is a tremendous loss for all that knew him for a minute or years.

Gregory Hamilton Ford - January 14, 1961 - April 12, 2022

Obituary Preview: Gregory  Hamilton Ford, age 61, a 30 year resident of Newburyport,  MA, died unexpectedly  at his home  on Monday afternoon April 12, 2022. He was born in Los Angeles, CA to Agatina. (Murabito) Horvath and the late James W. Ford He  attended  grammar  school in Los Angeles before his family relocated  to Methuen. MA where he graduated from  Methuen  High School .Greg attended Yavapai College and developed his trade as a carpenter in Arizona  before moving to Newburyport,  MA in 1992.
Greg was employed  as a Facilities  Manager  for the Towle Building for the last 17 years. His dedication to "his building " and its tenants was Greg's  highest priority.  He was beloved by  many.. Our precious Greg's most redeeming qualities were his spirituality  and his unwavering faith,  his infectious laugh and his extraordinary capable hands that saw NO boundaries  on what they could accomplish.
In his free time Greg liked to play guitar and tinker with anything that challenged his desire to fix and restore. He was passionate about healthy eating and developed quite a knack for cooking. For years Greg and his dog 'Loni' were inseparable. His love for  'Loni' suggests that " Man is a dog's  best friend " not the other way around. Greg had a deep love for his family and friends .
Greg is survived by  his Mother, Agatina Horvath of AZ, siblings: James Ford of CA, Ellen Cartier and her husband Ron of NH, Lucille Ford of CA, and David Ledbetter and his wife Angie of Az and last but certainly not least the many clients and coworkers who to him were extended family.

Ronald "Ron" Francis Crivello, Sr. - March 02, 1960 - April 09, 2022

Ronald F. Crivello, Sr. age 62 of Haverhill passed away at his home on April 9, 2022.  He was born on March 2, 1960 the son of the late, Robert P. and Constance R. (Mancuso) Crivello.  He was raised and educated in Somerville, MA and graduated from Somerville High School, Class of 1978.
Ron worked for 40 years in the automotive service industry.  He furthered his automotive service education by taking various ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) courses over the years.  He had received several awards and pins recognizing him for his achievements.
He is survived by his daughter, Vanessa Crivello of Arlington, TX, his son, Ronald F. Crivello, Jr. of Arlington, TX, his brother, Peter “Butch” Crivello of Saco, ME, his brother, Francis J. “Frank” Crivello and his wife, Kim of Salisbury, MA and his niece, Marena Crivello also of Salisbury, MA.
Ron was pre-deceased by his father, Robert Crivello, Sr., his mother, Constance R. Crivello and his brother, Robert Crivello, Jr.
There are no calling hours.  Family and friends are invited to attend Ron’s Graveside Service on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 36 Storey Ave, Newburyport, MA.  Please meet the family at the cemetery.

Obituary Preview: We are sad to announce that Rozalia Benca, long-time resident of James Steam Mill, Newburyport, died on April 8, 2022 at the age of 86 from pancreatic cancer.  She was a devout Catholic.  Despite many years of unrelenting pain from a spinal stenosis, she attended Mass every single day until very shortly before her death. She is survived by her son, Adolf Benca and daughter Lubica “Lubka” Benca and Lubka's spouse, Naomi Diamant, as well as her extended family in Slovakia.

Paul Joseph Callahan - May 06, 1951 - April 06, 2022

Obituary Preview: Paul Joseph Callahan passed away on April 6, 2022 surrounded by family in one of his favorite places on earth, Plum Island. Paul resided in Charlestown with his beloved wife of ten years, Lisa (Hennigar) who devotedly cared for him throughout his battle with cancer. He was strong-willed to his last breath and leaves behind a love of life that will be remembered by family and friends forever.
Born to the late Gerald and Margaret (Coyne) Callahan on May 6, 1951, Paul grew up in Arlington, MA along with his three sisters: Anne Fitzgerald, Janice Eisert, and Joan Regan. He married Anne Lindberg in 1979 and settled in Hingham, MA where they had their only child, Matt Callahan. Paul was a devoted father who spent countless hours coaching his son in both hockey and baseball. He later became a loving father-in-law to Matt’s wife Maggie and doting grandfather to their children Katherine and Erin. He was Uncle Paul to eighteen nieces and nephews, each of whom he loved to the end.
Paul graduated from Arlington Catholic High School, where he played hockey, prior to attending Boston State College. He began his career working for Johnnie’s Foodmaster before spending the majority of his work life in national sales roles with Conagra Foods, Nestle Waters North America, and Mountain Valley Spring Water.
Whether with food, drink, blankets, gifts, or his time, Paul enjoyed taking care of family, friends, and neighbors. He was quick to help anyone in need throughout his life and always embraced the hard work that came with those efforts. He was a gracious entertainer whose work connections often developed into meaningful friendships. He enjoyed traveling, especially when he was able to bring his golf clubs and friends to some of the most prestigious courses in the world. He could frequently be found sharing stories and laughs while touring his favorite breweries and restaurants or attending sporting events across the Northeast.

Obituary Preview: Thomas J. Tierney, Sr., 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his residence in Newburyport, MA on Monday April 4, 2022. He was born in Hyde Park, MA on February 19, 1937 to the late Francis and Mary (Malloy) Tierney. Raised and educated in Hyde Park, Thomas attended Hyde Park High School and Boston State College. Thomas was married to the late Beverly Savage for 61 years. They raised their family in Reading, MA and later in life moved to Newburyport where they resided for the past 20 years.
He was employed by New England Telephone Co. as a Repair/Installation Technician for over 34 years. Our Dad loved the beach and taking day trips with his beloved wife. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching sports, especially the Red Sox, but it was spending time with his family and friends that he cherished the most.
Thomas is survived by his children, Paula A. Tierney, of Boston, Thomas J. Tierney, Jr. and his wife Susan of Newburyport, Robert F. Tierney of Newburyport, and Elizabeth M. Burns and her husband Bryan of Marblehead; grandchildren, Zach, Halle, Benjamin, Samuel, and Harry; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Beverly, Thomas was predeceased by his grandson Charlie Burns; and brothers, Frank, Joseph, Roger “Bud*, Steve, and Gene Tierney.

Nelson H. Buswell - November 14, 1954 - April 02, 2022

Obituary Preview: It is with deep sadness that we mourn the sudden passing of Nelson H. Buswell, 67, of Myrtle Beach, SC formerly of Salisbury, MA. Nelson was born in Fitchburg, MA and was a graduate of Amesbury High School. He married the love of his life in 1980 and raised their family in Salisbury. Nelson and Diane together built their home and a commercial building in Salisbury, they also built their business Canvas Connection together working side-by-side for their 42 years of marriage. Nelson had a brilliant engineering mind and there was nothing he enjoyed more than a good challenge, whether he was working on boats, cars, or airplanes. He took particular pride in building his own airplane and he loved flying. Nelson and Diane spent several winters in Florida where they shared a beautiful home on a private runway and regularly entertained family and friends. Their adventures together included almost two years traveling the US in their RV, finally settling in Myrtle Beach
Nelson is survived by his wife Diane their daughter Stacey and her husband Rob, their son Travis and his wife April, grandsons Dominick, Maddox, Colin, and Colby; his sister Annis and her husband Bob Dwan; as well as several close cousins.

Margaret Mary Horgan - August 07, 1926 - March 31, 2022

Obituary Preview: Margaret Mary “Peg” Horgan, passed away peacefully at her home on March 31, 2022. She was born in Newburyport in 1926 to the late Francis J. and Margaret Mary (Murphy) Burke.
Peg was a graduate of Newburyport High School class of 1944. She attended St. Elizabeth School of Nursing and fulfilled her goal of becoming a Registered Nurse. Peg married Robert E. Horgan and they became the proud parents of 9 children. Widowed suddenly in 1965, Peg undertook the enormous task of raising her family who at the time were aged 1-14. She lovingly accomplished that feat. While very busy at home, she still managed to continue her Nursing career at the Hale Hospital in Haverhill.
Peg was a very good sport who loved a travel adventure. She enjoyed many trips to Ireland with Jean and Mike Doyle, as well as England, Wales, and Italy. Throughout the years Peg traveled to San Francisco many times to visit her children, Michael, Trish and Kevin who all lived there.
Peg was a devoted Mom whose wisdom was evident throughout her life. She was a devout Catholic and had a deep devotion to the Saints. She would always say that her faith is what got her through life.
Her family extends their utmost gratitude to Marie Auguste who took care of Peg with compassion and respect during the past year.
Peg was blessed with 11 grandchildren who she loved very much. There were many happy celebrations through the years. Peg was happiest when she was surrounded by her family.
Peg leaves 7 children, Maureen Hardin, Michael Horgan and Jacy, Jean and Mike Doyle, Margaret and Tucker Quinn, Paul and Donna Horgan, Trish and John O’Rourke, and John and Michele Horgan. She was sadly predeceased by her husband Robert E. Horgan; daughter, Mary J. Horgan, and son Kevin B. Horgan; as well as her sister Laurine Sullivan.

Obituary Preview: Janice Lorraine Carey, 81, passed away Monday afternoon March 28, 2022 at High Pointe Hospice House Haverhill. She was born in Newburyport on October 20, 1940 to the late Harry and Elizabeth (Schremph) Krekorian. Janice was a lifelong resident of Newburyport graduating from Newburyport High School with the Class of 1958. She married the love of her life Donald Carey on April 2, 1961 and the couple enjoyed just shy of 62 years together.
Janice was primarily a homemaker in her younger years raising their family in Newburyport. As her daughters grew, she was employed at First and Ocean Bank, starting her career as a teller and progressing to her position as the first female Vice President of Operations for the Bank, before her retirement in 2004.
She was an avid quilter making many cherished articles for family and friends over the years. She and Donald spent over 18 years wintering in Barefoot Bay, FL, making many wonderful friendships over those years. Janice loved spending time with her grandchildren, especially going shopping for their birthdays and making Christmas crafts.
Janice is survived by her husband Donald Carey of Newburyport; daughters, Shelly Daniels and her husband Thomas of East Wakefield, NH and Cathleen Gray and her husband Morris of Salisbury; grandchildren, Jennifer DeAngelo, Becky Vieira, Christian Gray, Stephen Daniels, Nathaniel Gray and Matt Daniels; great grandchildren, Elizabeth, T.J., Harper, and Clare; brother, John Krekorian of FL; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Melinda Carey, as well as one brother and three sisters.

Richard L. Garand - May 16, 1945 - March 25, 2022

Obituary Preview: Richard L. Garand, age 76, husband of Yvonne (LeBlanc) Garand of Byfield, passed away on March 25, 2022 at High Pointe House in Haverhill, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Born in Newburyport, MA on May 16, 1945, he was the son of the late Jeremie and Doris (Teel) Garand.
Richard had a warm and loving personality. An Extremely smart man, and was able to fix anything.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Paulette Rouse and her husband Dan of Nottingham, NH, and Michele Bradley and her husband Kevin of Boxford, MA; five grandchildren, Ashlyn Murphy and her husband John, Trevor Rouse, Lauren Rouse, Megan Bradley, and Melanie Bradley; great grand-daughter, Hayden Murphy; sister,  Dolores White and her late husband Tom; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill Scanlon and his wife Louise; as well as several nieces, a nephew, several aunts, uncles, and many cousins.

Margaret Stewart-Fay - October 31, 1942 - March 22, 2022

Obituary Preview: Margaret Morrison Stewart Fay passed away on March 22, 2022, at Academy Manor in Andover, MA at the age of 79 after a battle with dementia. Margaret was born in Aberdeen, Scotland to Charles and Henrietta Stewart. She moved to Springfield, MA with her parents and sister Etta when she was a girl and graduated from Commerce High School in Springfield in 1961.
Margaret worked as a home health aide and became close with many of her clients. She was proud of her Scottish roots, and true to that heritage, nothing could keep her down for long. She enjoyed eating Scottish shortbread cookies and mince meat pies any time she could. She loved the ocean and enjoyed painting, knitting and going on long walks every day, no matter the weather.
Margaret is survived by her children David Desilets and his wife Carol of Hull, MA, Laurie Viglietta of Newport News, VA, Greg Clark and his wife Marsha of Springfield, MA and Christine Orpin and her husband Bill of Newbury, MA; her sister Etta Bateson and her husband Peter of South Gloucestershire, England; her niece Cherie Ingsley and her husband Jonathan of Bristol, UK; her grandchildren and great grandchildren and estranged husband Thomas Fay of Springfield, MA. She is predeceased in death by her son Michael Desilets of Chicopee, MA and her parents and step-mother Isabel Stewart of Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Academy Manor in Andover and Country Center in Newburyport for their dedication.

Hans J. Erwich - May 09, 1929 - March 22, 2022

Obituary Preview: Hans J. Erwich, a loving father, grandfather, and devoted husband, died on March 22, 2022.  Hans was born May 9, 1929, in Rotterdam, Holland. He received a BS in Electrical Engineering from the Netherlands Technical College and completed graduate work at the University of Amsterdam. He was a pilot in the Dutch Air Force and loved to share a story about the weekend he spent in the brig after buzzing the parade grounds while the brass was in attendance. He married Petra Kroon in September 1955, immigrated to Canada in 1959 to work with Canadian Aviation Electronics, and he became a Canadian Citizen. Hans and family immigrated to the US in 1963, settling in Westport, CT.  Hans’ extensive career in electrical engineering and R&D program management brought the family to Glastonbury, CT, Beverly, MA, Wayne, NJ and lastly to Newburyport, MA where Hans and Petra retired in 1993.
During Hans’ career he worked on defense industry contracts with various branches of the military. He managed the Advanced Wafer Imaging System (AWIS) for the Army, as well as sonar development for the Navy.
In 1980 Hans became a U.S. citizen. Hans required U.S. citizenship to obtain the top-level security clearances he held for the military contracts he worked on. One story Hans liked to tell was that when he was being interviewed for U.S. citizenship, he was asked whether he had any relationships with aliens (non-U.S. persons). Hans answered, “I sleep with one every night.”  Petra had retained her Canadian citizenship and U.S. Green card.
Hans was an avid sailor and enjoyed his retirement in Newburyport, MA. When Petra was looking for a house in Newburyport, Hans had one request, that it would be close to the yacht club. The yacht club ended up abutting their backyard. He would spend many afternoons at the yacht club sitting on the dock in a rocking chair with his cigar. All his retirement activities had a seaport/seacoast focus. He became a member of the Newburyport Harbor Commission and for several years was its chairman. He was also a member of the American Yacht Club. Hans and his best friend, Norm, shared many dinners and cocktails, especially their Friday night dinners at the Dalton Club, where Hans was a member for years. He was also active in and held lay leadership positions in two local churches.
Hans is predeceased by his loving wife, Petra, and is survived by three children, Peter Erwich of Larkspur, CO, Tricia Jenkins and her husband, Brian, of Lynn MA, Willem Erwich and his wife, Kim, of Miami, FL and his adoring grandchildren, Madeline, Georgette and Estelle Erwich of Miami, FL. In addition he is survived by his family in Holland, a sister, Helena Erwich, and nephew and nieces, Bart-Jan Brandt, Heleen Brandt, Marjolein Brandt, and Alexandra Brandt.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday July 9, 2022 at 10:00 am at the Central Congregational Church, 14 Titcomb Street Newburyport, MA. Burial will be private at a later date. She was born in Newburyport on August 24, 1964 to Donald and Janice (Krekorian) Carey. Raised and educated in Newburyport, Melinda was a graduate of Newburyport High School. She furthered her education graduating from the University of New Hampshire with her Bachelors of Nursing Degree.
Melinda started her career in health care at a very young age, becoming a “Candy Striper” at Anna Jaques Hospital. She continued her entire working career at Anna Jaques Hospital, where she was a Cardiac Nurse and concluded her employment as a Diabetic Educator.
She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Especially during Yankee Homecoming, when she always took her vacation.
In addition to her parents, Melinda is survived by her sisters, Shelly Daniels and her husband Thomas of East Wakefield, NH and Cathleen Gray and her husband Morris of Salisbury; nieces and nephews, Jennifer DeAngelo, Becky Vieira, Christian Gray, Stephen Daniels, Nathaniel Gray and Matt Daniels; great nieces and nephews, Elizabeth, T.J., Harper, and Clare; as well as many friends and colleagues.

Judith Louise Steeves - March 18, 1938 - March 19, 2022

Judi was born in Lawrence, MA on March 18, 1938. She was the daughter of Frederick and Violet Berbert and sister to Frank Berbert. Judi is survived by her husband, Norman Steeves, her children William & Merri-Lee (Lesynski) Steeves, John & Charlene (Blazak) Steeves, Michael & Laura (Steeves) Ormsby, as well as her grandchildren, Brooke & Will Elwell, Shelby & George Bixby, Emma Steeves, Alex Ormsby, Nick Ormsby and Cameron Ormsby and great-grandchildren Vivian & William Elwell.
Judi attended University of Massachusetts Amherst. In her freshman year, she joined Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and was crowned the Greek Ball Queen. Judi was also a precisionette  for the university marching band. She graduated in 1960.
Judi & Norm were married in 1961 and moved to Burlington, MA where they raised their three children, Bill, John and Laura. Judi worked in the Burlington School System as a Library Instructional Assistant at Burlington High School. Judi moved from Burlington to RiverCourt Residences in Groton, MA in April 2019 where she thrived in the loving community and made some great new friends.
Judi was a kind and caring person, second mom/grammy to many, friend to all. Judi wore her smile without reserve and brought joy to those around her. She was lovely and she was loved.
At Judi’s request there will be no service. Plans are underway for a celebration of Judi’s life in the May/June timeframe.

Susan was born on April 15, 1948 in Newburyport, MA to the late Martin (Buddy) Francis Twombly, Sr. and Mary Hersey Twombly.  She attended Catholic schools in Newburyport and was a graduate of Newburyport High School.  She worked 15 years for General Electric and, after raising her children, she worked several years at the Yum-Yum Shop in Seabrook followed by 15 years at Walmart after which she retired.  She enjoyed knitting, family holidays, spending time with her grandchildren and her great granddaughter.  She was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.

Doris was born in Newburyport on October 4, 1932, a twin.
She was the daughter of the late Frank W. and Anna (Pomerleau) Dumont and stepdaughter of the late Marie Anne Grenier Dumont.
Doris’ love of travel drew her to the airline industry. She started with American Airlines in 1956 in New York. Doris was hired by Dean J. Pelletier of Newbury Jr. College to help start evening travel courses in Boston in 1970 which was one of the first offered in the area. Students came from Nigeria, Japan, and Scandinavia to train with Doris and eventually return to their home countries to open their own travel businesses.
She retired from the industry with Scandinavian Airlines in Boston in 1988. After retiring from the the airline industry, Doris worked for Boston Financial Data Service in Quincy and in 1999 she returned to Newburyport  and worked briefly for Lombardi Oil and Alden Merrell Cheesecake Company.
Doris filled her free time with her passions of ballroom dancing, mahjong, playing piano and having conversations with friends in her French/Canadian dialect. Doris loved spending time with her family and organizing family get togethers.
She is survived by her sisters, Evelyn Jamrog, Annette Simmons, Louise Mason, and Michelle Racioppi all of Newburyport, MA; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving twin sister Dorothy Creeden of Rocky Hills, CT, and her brothers, Frank J. Dumont, Paul A. Dumont, and John W. Dumont of Monmouth, ME.

Joseph Philip Messina - July 16, 1942 - March 13, 2022

Obituary Preview: It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of Joseph P. Messina who died in the arms of his beloved wife and devoted sons at his home in Newburyport on March 13, 2022. Joe was married to his high school sweetheart and wife of 58 years, Ann Pappalardo, and was a dedicated husband and proud father of his sons, Philip and Joseph.
Joe loved coaching his sons’ Little League and youth hockey teams. He was a graduate of Merrimack College. He was a seasoned photographer and traveler, a perpetual student of history and science and loved the opera. He was an honored member of the Jaycees, an organization who  provided development opportunities that empowered young people to create positive sustainable change.  Joe was also one of a close family of volunteers who raised funds to build the Cor Unum Meal Center at St. Patrick’s Parish in Lawrence, and more recently was a volunteer at Immaculate Conception Church in Newburyport.
Joe’s many battles with cancer began in 1980, but a force courageous and stubborn,  he refused to concede in the 42 years that followed, mentoring many cancer patients with his positive attitude and hope.
Joe was employed by Itek Optical Systems Division in Burlington where he was a member of The First Mars Landing Society and the Viking Project Team whose mission was responsible for the 1st. Successful landing on Mars of a terrestrial spacecraft.
When employed by Raytheon in Andover, Joe was a Senior Master Planner in charge of the Patriot Missile Program. He also participated in their volunteer science program which mentored underserved students.
Joe is survived by his wife Ann of Newburyport; his son Philip, daughter-in-law Kristen and grandson Luca of California; son Joseph and Meaghan Stedge-Stroud,  sister Esther Messina Sayer, sister-in-law Sarah Talford all of Newburyport and many nieces, nephews, cousins and Godchildren.
Joe was a giant man with an even bigger  heart who  had a great influence on many. He will be sorely missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am on Tuesday, May 10th, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Church 42 Green Street Newburyport, MA 01950. Burial will be private. Paul Allan Kolman - September 12, 1942 - March 07, 2022

Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Janet (Mullen) Kolman, his daughter Lee Ann (Kolman) Griggs and her husband Brian, his daughter-in-law India (Moore) Kolman, and his grandchildren, Allison Griggs and her partner Angelique Bradford, Ashley Griggs, Katie Pomella-Griggs and her wife Julia Pomella-Griggs, Lauren Kolman, and Daniel Kolman. Paul is also survived by his nephew Scott McIntyre and his niece Jackie (McIntyre) Goodwin, with whom he shared a special bond. He is predeceased by his parents and his son, David P. Kolman. Paul was born in Boston on September 12, 1942 to Paul E. Kolman and Ellie (Halme) Kolman. He graduated from Natick High School and attended Boston University on a full football scholarship. He then earned his Master’s Degree at Salem State University. He taught Biology at Newburyport High School for over 37 years. His love of teaching never waned, as he continued to substitute teach well into his 70’s. Along with teaching, he coached football and track up until the graduation of his son David in 1988, as David headed off to URI on a full football scholarship. Like father, like son!
Paul was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed coaching football- especially his son David and his nephew Scott-, refereeing, playing golf, cooking, and gardening. He was proud of his Finnish heritage, and passed along his knowledge of Finnish culture and traditions to his grandchildren. He embodied the concept of sisu, a character trait involving strength of will and acting rationally in the face of adversity.
In 2012, Paul was voted Yankee Homecoming King for his dedication and volunteering efforts for the city of Newburyport. He was the secretary of the Newburyport Lions Club for over 15 years and a member for over 25 years. He was very involved in the $5000 raffle, the Yankee Homecoming Road Race, numerous blood drives, and the Salvation Army Christmas bell ringing.

Obituary Preview: Mildred C. Beebe, 93, a resident of Salisbury passed away Friday morning March 4, 2022 at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport. She was born in Melrose, MA on April 12, 1928 to the late John “Ed” Edward and Emily (Burke) Classen. Mildred was raised and educated in Wakefield graduating from Wakefield High School.
Following her graduation Mildred was employed at the family business, Classen Brothers Garage (the last independent Dodge Dealership in MA) as a Bookkeeper until its closing. She was then employed at Port Office Products until her retirement. During her retirement Mildred was employed at the Newburyport YWCA, and also volunteered at the Newburyport Custom House.
Mildred was an avid gardener and enjoyed boating on the Parker River with her late husband John H. Beebe III, as well as traveling to Bar Harbor, ME and Bermuda. She and her family spent every summer at their family retreat in Popham Beach, ME. enjoying time with friends and family.
Mildred is survived by her daughters, Martha MacLean and her husband Charlie of Salisbury, and Jennifer Drouin and her late husband James J. Drouin of Salisbury; grandchildren, Stephanie MacLean Maynard and her husband Robert of Salisbury, Jonathan MacLean and his wife Lynne of Salisbury, Jeffrey Drouin and his wife Mary of Haverhill, and Melissa Drouin Davis and her husband Tyler of Salisbury; great grandchildren, Keira, Molly, Jack, Riley, Delaney, Finn, and Meredith; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband Mildred was predeceased by her siblings, Edward Classen, Charles “Bud” Classen, and Emily McLaughlin.

Priscilla A. Morse - March 13, 1930 - February 24, 2022

Obituary Preview: Newbury, MA - Priscilla A. (Hanna) Morse, 91, passed peacefully at Port Healthcare Center in Newburyport on February 24, 2022, following a brief period of declining health.
Born in Newburyport, March 13, 1930, Priscilla was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Hewitt) Hanna.
She spent her early childhood in Marblehead and Bolton, Massachusetts, before returning to Newburyport in the 1940’s to attend Newburyport High School. Marriage to Charles W. “Pete” Morse, Jr. followed and they settled in Newbury, where she remained in the original house that Pete built until her passing. Pete predeceased her in 2016.
After her two children were settled in school, Priscilla resumed work on her advanced education at Salem State College, earning her B. S. in elementary education and later, her Master’s of Education degree.
Her first teaching assignment in the Newburyport School System was at the former Davenport School on Congress. Street, transferring upon its closing to the Belleville Elementary School (now the F.T. Bresnahan School) where she taught readiness, until her retirement in 1990.
During her teaching career she was twice recognized by the Newburyport School Committee for her commitment to the children of Newburyport. She was the recipient of the Edward G. Molin Award for Excellence in Education and in 1979 was designated a Master Teacher.
Priscilla’s family and friends remember her fondly as being refreshingly honest, gracious, and possessing an impeccable sense of style. A thoroughly modern woman who embodied “old school values” in her daily life, she was a class act in all respects. Judged by any standard, hers was a full and meaningful life, well-lived.
Priscilla is survived by her son, Charles W. Morse, III, and his wife Janice, of South Hampton, NH; her daughter, Bonita J. Morse, and her husband, Moss Quinlan, of Newbury; her granddaughter, Katie Morse Yeomans, and her husband, Rob Yeomans, and their sons, Jack and Cody Yeomans, of Boxford, MA; granddaughter Alysa Morse Iannuccillo, and her husband, Mark, and their sons, Jaxon and Cash of South Hampton, NH; and granddaughter Sarah Quinlan, and her husband, John Ridgley, of Littleton, CO, and their two sons, Peter and Philip. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law, Donald Morse, and his wife, Judith, of Grafton, NH.

Rocco C. Fosillo, Jr. - November 05, 1935 - February 22, 2022

Obituary Preview: Rocco C. Fosillo, Jr. passed peacefully in his sleep after a period of declining health on Tuesday, February 22, 2022.
Rocco was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts on November 5, 1935, to Rocco Fosillo and Anna (Scammaca) Fosillo, who were both born in Italy.  Rocco grew up in Newburyport and graduated High School there in 1954.
For several years following High School, Rocco raced cars professionally winning many races and surviving a few spectacular crashes.  He was also Vice President of the Amateur Sports Car Council of New England.
On September 8, 1968, Rocco married his best friend, Rosemarie (Caramagno) Fosillo, and enjoyed a strong and happy marriage until her death in 2014. Rocco and Rosemarie travelled extensively together including leisurely trips to Portugal, Spain, Ireland, Aruba, Hawaii, etc.
Rocco spent most of his career as a construction foreman with the Local 175 of  the Massachusetts Laborer’s Union.  He contributed to many impressive buildings including the Seabrook Power Plant.
Rocco served 11 years in the 101st Combat Engineers of the Massachusetts National Guard. He was also very active for some 30 years in the Coast Guard Axillary, where he retired as Lt. Commander.
Rocco loved the water and kept a boat most of his adult life.  He was a lifetime member of the North End Boat Club in Newburyport. Rocco was an avid fisherman and hunter almost all the way through his life. He took great pride in tying his own beautiful salt water flies and carving his own lifelike wooden decoys.
Rocco had a big heart and gave generously to many worthwhile organizations, including St. Jude’s, Duck’s Unlimited, and the American Red Cross.  He was also a huge dog lover and had two beautiful black Labradors, Romulus and Toby.  Rocco always carried dog treats to share with canine friends around town.
Rocco loved music and was an active member of Newburyport Jazz Society for many years.  He met Louie Armstrong and Lena Horne among other greats.
Rocco is survived by his sister, Raffaella Walker of Lyons, NY, his sister-in-law, Eleanora Bineau, of Murietta, CA, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Rocco’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at 10:30 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Church in Newburyport.  A reception lunch will be held locally following Rocco’s Funeral Mass.
