Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Siloam Baptist Church in Magee, MS from 1:00 until 2:00 pm. The service will be at 2:00 pm at the church with Bro. Gary Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in Siloam Cemetery.
Vicki grew up in Magee and graduated from Simpson Academy where she was well known for her beautiful smile. She enjoyed time spent with family, friends, gardening and cooking. She had a love for all animals especially her beloved dog, Pepper. Her time spent with her two grandchildren, Reed and Grace, was the joy of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kelly Gene Herrington and Dorothy Pope Herrington; her first husband, Bobby Ray Walker and her brother, Kelly Gene Herrington II.
Vicki is survived by her former husband of many years, Johnny Gore; her son, Chad Walker of Magee; her daughter, Dee Miller (Bryan) of Madison; grandchildren, Reed Miller and Mary Grace Miller of Madison; two brothers, Kenny Ray Herrington and Tommy Pope Herrington of Magee.

Obituary Preview: On April 20th, God called his servant, Douglas J. Hubbard home. Douglas was the 4th child out of 13 born to the late Odail and Johnie Mae Hubbard in Magee, MS on March 5, 1944.
Douglas accepted Christ at an early age where he became a faithful member of Mt. Moriah Church and later joined Galilee M.B. Church for the last 12 years both in Magee, MS. On July 30, 1967, Douglas married Perry Hubbard and they were blessed with five children. Douglas loved his family and was a full-blooded H-U-B-B-A-R-D. He retired as a Machine Operator in 1997 in Jacksonville, Florida. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, hunting, and working in the yard. In his pastime, he liked to take a nip and talk trash but he later changed his life.
Douglas is preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Flossie Davis, Billy R. Hubbard, Anthony Hubbard, O.D. Hubbard, Larry Hubbard, Ada M. Easterling, Harry Hubbard, Ruby Hubbard, John Hubbard, Derrick Hubbard and Lucious Hubbard.
Douglas leaves to cherish his memories, a loving wife, Perry Hubbard; and five children, Wendy Rushing, Michael McNair, Cynthia Hubbard Walker, Jai’lynn Pennington, and Sharon Hubbard, a granddaughter he raised Shanga McNair; and two great-grandchildren, Dinah and Danah McNair; alongside 16 grandchildren, Pierre, Jamaal, Kevin, Brittany, Semone, Christian, Malcolm, Ne’Poleon, Adrian, Nicholas, Dominic, India, Amber, Alexia, and Douglass'Lynn; 11 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Harold Brooks, a distinguished dentist, beloved family man, and adventurer at heart. A native of Mendenhall, Dr. Brooks laid his educational foundation at Mendenhall High School, furthered his studies at Millsaps College, and honed his skills in dentistry at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. Dr. Brooks embarked on a successful career in dentistry, establishing a private practice in Magee that flourished over the years thanks to his dedication and skill. His work not only brightened the smiles of countless individuals but also left a lasting impact on the community he served so diligently. Beyond his professional life, Dr. Brooks was a devoted family man.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Glenda Mangum Brooks; his sister, Tenelia Brooks Frier; his children, Jeffrey Brooks (Robin), Lana Brooks, John Mangum (Stacy), Kris Mangum (Jennifer), and Susan Mangum (Brandiilyne); along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will miss his presence deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Laurie Welch Brooks.
Dr. Brooks was also a man of many interests and talents. In his retirement, he found joy in assembling complex models of shipping vessels, a testament to his patience and attention to detail, and working his land on his tractor, connecting with the earth in a way only he could. His adventurous spirit was reflected in his passion for riding motorcycles across the country with close friends, exploring the vast landscapes and enjoying the freedom of the open road. Notably, Dr. Brooks was among the original board of directors for the founding of the Bank of Simpson County, now known as Priority One. His visionary contributions to the bank’s inception have left an indelible mark on the financial landscape of the region. Dr. Harold Brooks lived a life rich in achievements, love, and adventure. As we bid him farewell, we celebrate the legacy he leaves behind—a legacy of compassion, dedication, and a zest for life that will continue to inspire those who knew him. Dr. Brooks will be dearly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the community he cherished.

Obituary Preview: Jacqueline Toy Ware Schaub, 90, of Magee, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at her home. Jackie was born June 7, 1933, to the late Delus Ethel Ware and the late Nola Ainsworth Ware.
She grew up in a large family in Taylorsville, MS where she graduated from high school and cheered for the Tartars. She attended Jones Junior College where she made great memories marching with the band as a majorette. Some of her fondest memories after graduation included road trips in her red convertible.
She retired from many years of service with Mississippi Power and Light. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church and later First Baptist Church of Magee. She had great faith in the Lord and Bible study was a significant part of her life. It was well known that she loved her dog and devoted companion, Sugar.
She enjoyed bargain shopping, bridge club and enjoyed sharing meaningful conversations with friends and family on her patio. She had an enthusiasm for dancing which often provided lots of entertainment for her family.
Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave her great joy and they treasured time spent with her.
Jacqueline is survived by her daughter, Sheryl Schaub Parish (James); sons, William Stephen Schaub (Joy) and David Ware Schaub as well as her grandchildren, Courtney Fisher (Curt), Hayden Schaub (Brianna), Reed Schaub, Olivia Rowe (Mark) and Sam Taylor (Alyssa); great-grandchildren, Abby Fisher, Maverick Schaub, Ardsley Rowe, Aven Rowe, Mac Taylor, Drew Taylor, Clara Taylor and her sister, Hettie Doris Myrick.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ben Ware, Tom Ware; sisters, Johnnie Carlson, Jessie Leake, Frances Dickens and Ruth LaBorde.
A deep love and respect abide among her family and friends who will miss her deeply but know that she is resting in the loving arms of her Savior.

Obituary Preview: It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gussie Wells Cole, a cherished figure in the Magee community and beyond. Gussie left us peacefully on Thursday, April 3, 2024, at Magee General Hospital, concluding a life richly lived.
Born into the loving arms of Rooker Wells and Maude Flint on August 12, 1927, in Magee, Mississippi, Gussie's early years were spent wrapped in the warmth of her family in Collins, Mississippi. Demonstrating a dedicated commitment to education early in life, she pursued her academic endeavors with fervor, graduating from Jones Junior College and subsequently, the University of Southern Mississippi. It was here that she received her degree in Education, laying the foundation for her impactful career in teaching.
Gussie's heart belonged to one man, S.D. (Steve) Cole, whom she wed soon after graduation. Together, they embarked on a new chapter in Bisbee, Arizona. It was in this spirited town that Gussie devoted many years to shaping young minds and inspiring hearts within the school system. Her passion for education and unwavering dedication did not go unnoticed; over the years, Gussie was lauded with numerous accolades, including the prestigious Woman of the Year award, in recognition of her contributions.
Upon retiring, Gussie and S.D. returned to their roots in Magee, where Gussie continued to leave her mark on education within the Simpson County School System. Beyond her professional achievements, Gussie possessed an insatiable zest for life, exploring the corners of the United States and venturing abroad, finding joy in the new experiences each journey offered.
A woman of profound faith, Gussie was a devout member of Christ Fellowship, attending services and engaging with her church community as long as her health permitted. Her unwavering belief and the love she shared have left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have known her.
Gussie's legacy is carried on through the lives of her beloved family. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Rooker and Maude Wells as well as her husband S.D. Cole. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Lynda; cherished grandchildren, David with wife Katie, Steven with wife Regina ; and the lights of her later life, great-grandchildren John, Gianna and Steven. Each reflects a piece of her spirit, love, and resilience.
Gussie Wells Cole was a beacon of light, love, and wisdom to all who knew her. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, and friend, she will be profoundly missed. We take comfort in knowing that her legacy will continue to inspire future generations. Steve was born in Magee on July 9, 1949, to Thurman and Lou Ates, MS and continued to live in Magee where he graduated from Magee High School. Steve was very successful in the many businesses he owned and when it came to his favorite sport he had super talents at golf. He chased the dimpled little ball every given chance. Steve also loved the mountainous ranges in Colorado and New Mexico.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Thurman Ates; mom, Lou Ates; sister, Cindy Ates; grandparents, Carvin and Elsie Ates; and grandson Bentley Ates.

Up until several years ago, she enjoyed crocheting and going shopping with her best friend, Nell Kennedy. She was a member of Sharon Presbyterian Church.
Frances is survived by her three loving daughters, Mary Donna Easterling (Rusty), Cindy Farish (David), Kim Cody (Randy) and her cherished ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

As a member at First Baptist, she was a devoted usher, served very actively on the Pastor’s Aid Committee and worked faithfully in the Mission Department.
She was united in matrimony to S.P. Price. S.P. and Mildred were blessed with nine (9) children whom she loved very much. Her husband, SP Price preceded Mildred in death. Her daughter, Ruby Price, her sons, AJ Price (died shortly after being born), Jimmy Price, and Melvin Price also preceded her in death. To cherish her memories, she leaves: Five (5) children, Essie Gray, Linda Hayes, Carol (Robert) Lofton, Charles (Luvenia) Price, and John Larry (Betty) Price Three (3) brothers: Tommie Hubbard, Vernon Hubbard, and Charles Allen Hubbard Two (2) daughters-in-laws: Jessie Price and Jackie Price
12 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to mourn her passing.

Preceding Mrs. Womack in death were her father, Rev. Z.B. McAlpin and her mother, Pearl Rankin McAlpin; her husband, Tom Gaddis Womack; sons, Ted Womack and Michael Womack; granddaughter, Kim Womack; brothers, L.C. McAlpin (Leona), Arthur McAlpin and sisters, Bonnie Bill Womack and Novis Jones.
Mrs. Womack is survived by her daughter, Jean Womack Redding and son, Fred G Womack (Judy); five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Jean McAlpin Ratliff and sisters-in-law, Elsie McAlpin and Dot McAlpin.
Mrs. Womack was a member of First Baptist Church of Magee for more than 70 years where she taught Sunday School and sang in the senior choir. She was an avid gardener and dairy farmer along with her husband.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Tutor Funeral Home in Magee, MS at 2:00 pm. with an hour of visitation prior to the service from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm.  Dr. Fred Womack and Rev. Buddy Keys will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Sharon Cemetery.

Marlene was a faithful Christian who lived her life as a testament to serving her Lord. In 1955, she joined Rials Creek Church and has been a devout member for sixty-nine years. She married the love of her life, Lennis Welch, and they were happily married for over forty-nine years until his death. They both worked in local Simpson County offices; he was the Chancery Clerk, and she worked for the Department of Human Services for forty-two years. Not only did they ride to work together every day, but they also ate lunch with each other daily. She loved taking care of her family and cooking for them. She often cooked for church functions as well. She had a giving heart and a sweet spirit. She was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
She is survived by her son, Darrell Welch (Mary); daughter, Darla Huffman (Bo); sister, Marie Spence; grandchildren, Derek Huffman (Haylee), Danielle Darden (John Amory), and Hayden Huffman and three-great-grandchildren, Reid, Renlee and Jacob; sister-in-law, Frances Welch, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Eloyce Herrington Chesney; husband, Lennis Welch; her daughter, Tawanda Darlene Welch; her grandson, Johnathan Brennon Huffman and her brother-in-law, John Spence.

Obituary Preview: Mr.  Charles Gene “Jack “ Tanner passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS. He was born on July 1, 1941, to Delton and Gertrude Meadows Tanner in Mize, MS.
Jack retired from the MS National Guard after over forty-plus years of service. He loved what he did and made many friendships during his lifetime. He had a strong work ethic and instilled those skills into his family life. Some of the many things he got to experience during his lifetime were the Bob Hope Tour, he ran with the bulls in Spain, and was present when the Berlin Wall came down. He also traveled around the world three times.
Family was very important to Jack , and spending time with them brought him great joy. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, playing softball and cards, bowling and could repair anything. He was a mentor and coach to many, a prankster who loved giving others nicknames, and a jack of all trades.
Jack is survived by his wife, Carol W. Tanner; sons, Tony Tanner (Karyn) and John Rhodes (Crystal); daughters, Toni Tanner (Bobby) and Dana Jones (Chris); grandchildren, Rylee Tanner, Ramsey Jones, Madi Tanner, Raegan Jones, Braxton Kemp, Kayla Jones, and great-grandchild, Jack Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Delton and Gertrude Meadows Tanner, and his brother, Mac Tanner.

In 1960, Wilson graduated from Magee High School and then received his associate's degree from Copiah Lincoln Jr. College in 1962. He enlisted in the Navy and was on the USS Oriskany in the Pacific Fleet and then later stationed at North Island in San Diego, California. He loved his time in the Navy and often told stories about his adventures and friends. He was honorably discharged in 1966 and returned home to Magee. He married Carol Yelverton on June 10, 1967. He was a poultry and cattle farmer for 40 years and retired in 2007. He was an avid reader, loved to travel with Carol and loved to grow a garden.
Wilson is survived by his wife, Carol, daughter, Angie (Chris), granddaughter Olivia, siblings, Rowena, Lequieta and Pat and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved son, James.
Wilson will be remembered for being hardworking, generous to those in need, and opinionated. He always gave the best advice and will be missed tremendously by his family.
Wilson requested there not be a public funeral, so per his wishes the family will hold a private family service.

Obituary Preview: Mrs. DeAnna Joyce Maddox, 64, of Magee, Mississippi passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024, at University Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS. DeAnna was born March 18, 1959, in Magee, Mississippi to James (Jim) and Joyce Carr.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2023 from 5-8 PM at Sharon Presbyterian Church in Magee, MS. Funeral services will be held on the following day at 11:00 AM at Sharon with an hour of visitation prior to the service. The graveside service will follow at Sharon Cemetery. DeAnna’s son, Matt Maddox and Nathan Brooks will officiate the services with Tutor Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
DeAnna married the love of her life Michael (Mike) Phillip Maddox on May 27, 1977, at Sharon Presbyterian Church. From this union was born two children, daughter Candace and son Matt, and 6 grandchildren ( Gabe, Zeke, Addi, Lola Grace, Lizzy, and Kaydee Belle) she absolutely adored. To her grandchildren she was Dee Dee. Dee Dee was a member of Sharon Presbyterian Church. She was active, serving in the choir, VBS director or teacher, church functions, and most importantly Sunday School. Dee Dee taught Sunday school for over 20+ years. It brought her so much joy to teach the children. She was blessed Sunday after Sunday. At Sharon, she constantly grew in her faith. She knew her redeemer lives!
Dee Dee worked for the Simpson County School District for nearly 28 years at multiple positions. She loved the children and her co-workers dearly. She loved her job and did it very well. Unfortunately, Dee Dee was forced to retire early due to health conditions. She remained friends with many of her co-workers until her death.
Dee Dee enjoyed being with Mike more than anything. They did everything together. They enjoyed working in the yard together, washing vehicles, doing projects indoors and outdoors, and fishing. Probably, her most favorite thing to do is watch her grandchildren do anything. Church programs, awards days, playing, and sports. Mike and Dee enjoyed traveling together to watch their grandchildren do what they enjoyed.
DeAnna is survived by her husband of 46 years, Mike; her mother-in-law, Doris Deshotel; her brother, James Gregory Carr (Brenda) of Jersey Village, TX; sisters, Kim Jackson (Dann) of Petal, MS and Shelly Crane (David) of Magee, MS; her children, daughter, Candace Todd (Evan) of Monticello, MS, son Matt Maddox (Candy) of Mize, MS; grandchildren, Gabe, Zeke, Addi, Lola, Lizzy, and Kaydee Belle.

He was employed by Pan American Petroleum when he moved to Magee, MS, where he met and married Linda Runnels Brown, his wife of 63 years. In later years, he became an insurance agent and worked for several companies before retiring in 1997.
Ronald graduated from Bay High School in Panama City and attended Lamar Tech University on a football scholarship. A born athlete and lover of the outdoors, Ronald also played baseball for a semi-pro team in his hometown. In his senior years, he discovered golf and enjoyed playing several times a week with friends. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener and loved to share his bounty with friends.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Mays and Flynn Brown, and sisters, Carolyn and LaNita Willams.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; his son, Bart Brown (Maureen) of Lynn Haven, FL; and his daughter, Allison Pelham of Pensacola, FL; along with siblings Geraldine Waldrop, Rupert Brown (Cindy), and Lehman Brown (Sharon) and sister-in-law, Mina Brown. He is also survived and loved by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Obituary Preview: Mr. Tommy Joe Cockrell, Sr. of Florence, MS, passed away on January 10, 2024, at the age of 75. He bravely fought against several medical issues during recent years but remained quick to share a smile or joke with those around him. Though he has passed on, the light and joy he brought to those around him remain with us.
Tommy entered this world on January 26th, 1948, and spent his early years in Mize, MS, raised by his mother, Wilma Cockrell, and father, Herman Cockrell, alongside his sisters, Brenda Cockrell Langham and Linda Cockrell Cooper, on a farm where he enjoyed horseback riding, sports, and the outdoors. He went on to bravely serve his country as a medic in Vietnam, where he earned many accolades and medals, including a Purple Heart and Bronze Star, for his valor and for saving the lives of his comrades.
When he returned, Mr. Tommy lived a life full of love, laughter, and adventure, and he continued to serve those around him during his time in law enforcement until finally settling on a career in construction, where he built up not only quality construction projects but those around him. He spent his days surrounded by loved ones while enjoying activities such as camping, tubing, white water rafting, and indulging his love of travel. Mr. Tommy was an avid lover of sports and games, including cards and dominos, and those he left behind eagerly await the day we are able to reunite with him and have him deal us in on the next hand at his heavenly card table.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Wilma Cockrell; wife, Cathy Bates Ford; brother-in-law, Billy Langham.

Frank was born in Magee, Mississippi, in February 1940. He attended Magee High School, where he was President of the Senior class. After graduating in 1957, he went to college at Mississippi State University and was a proud bulldog. While a student at MSU, he was leader and officer in the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Frank graduated with a degree in Structural Engineering.
Following his graduation from Mississippi State, he and Bobbie moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, where Frank began his career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. A few years later, Frank and Bobbie moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi, where he worked until his retirement from the USACE Mississippi Valley Division as Acting Chief, Operations Division. During his distinguished career, Frank was most prominently known and recognized as Chief, Emergency Operations. His long-time role involved strategic vision, detailed planning, and response execution to a wide range of disaster events locally, regionally, and nationally, as well as support to military operations.
Frank was an avid golfer and was also an avid fisherman. He and Richard, his oldest son who passed away in February 2020, spent many days on the water casting lures. Additionally, Frank loved watching the MSU Bulldogs compete in sports. Plus, he continued his bulldog leadership as the President of the Vicksburg Chapter of the MSU Alumni Association.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Lavon Stubbs and son, Richard.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Frank’s steadfast caregivers of his last four years: Ada, April, Necole, and Terry. Additionally, the family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Jenine, Haley, and staff of St. Joseph’s for their continued care of Frank.
