Obituary Preview: Betty L. Rhoades, 94, of Greenville, Ohio, formerly of New Madison, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville.
She was born on March 3, 1929, to the late John and Ann (Baker) Lenhoff.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Eldon "Bud" Lenhoff.
Betty is survived by her husband, Lowell J. Rhoades, whom she married on June 28, 1947; her brother, Kenneth (Joan) Lenhoff; her nieces and nephews, Nick (Karen) Lenhoff, Jamie (Karen) Lenhoff, Steve Lenhoff and Missy Kemplin; and her great nieces and nephews, Rachel (Logan) Cunningham, Abbie (fiance, John Cucci) Lenhoff, Tyler Lenhoff, and Lucas Lenhoff.
Betty was a 1947 graduate of Hamilton High School and spent her career as a lab technician at Good Samaritan and Miami Valley Hospitals in Dayton. Betty loved ballroom dancing, reading and being with her family and friends. She was a member of the New Madison United Methodist Church, and National EEG Society.
A celebration of Betty's life will take place at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at New Madison United Methodist Church, with Pastors David Richey and Carol Duffield officiating. A graveside service will take place at 2:00 PM at Lisbon Cemetery near Union City, Indiana.
Guests may visit with Betty's family on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the church.

She was born June 14, 1930, in rural Dothan, Alabama, to the late Roy and Mildred (Mattox) Conner.
In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Richard O. Kasunic, whom she married on August 23, 1952, and passed away on May 19, 2016, As well as her daughter, Deborah Brown; her siblings, Marion "Bud" Conner and Mary Ella Conner; her brother-in-law, Patrick Sims.
She is survived by her daughter, Chevone (Joe) Singer of Greenville; her son-in-law, Allen Brown of Liberty Township, Ohio; her grandchildren, Angela (Gary) Slone of Gilbert, Arizona, Alyssa (Andrew) Carr of West Chester, Ohio, and Steven (Kristy Brewer) Singer of Fairborn, Ohio; her great grandchildren, Chandler and Maddox Carr; her dear friend, Christa Bingham; her adopted granddaughter, Faith Bingham; her siblings, Virginia "Jenny" Sims of Birmingham, Alabama, Glenda (Emil) Luft of Huntsville, Alabama, and Stanley Conner of Birmingham, Alabama; and her sister-in-law, Betty Ann "Pat" Conner of Decatur, Alabama; and numerous nieces and nephews.
June was a 1947 graduate of Dothan High School in Alabama. She then continued her education at Midway Junior College and Transylvania University, majoring in elementary education and music. June was a devoted kindergarten, first and second grade educator at various schools throughout Ohio for 27 years, until her retirement in 1991. Along with her general studies, June was passionate about sharing her love of music with her students. Along with her late husband, June was an active member of the New Madison United Methodist Church and served as the choir director for many years.
A celebration of June's life will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the New Madison United Methodist Church with Pastors David Richey and Carol Duffield officiating. Burial will follow in Greenmound Cemetery.
Guests may visit with June's family on Saturday from 10:00 AM until 11:45 AM at the church in New Madison.

Sally was born on September 19, 1927, in Dayton, Ohio, to Thomas W. Moore and Louise Moore (Uhl).
She attended New Madison Schools and spent her early working years as a telephone switchboard operator. On August 23, 1946, she married the love of her life and started farming alongside him.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy (Bennett) Webber of Hilliard, Ohio; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Case) Clemens (Shane Clemens) of Pickerington, Ohio, and Sara (Webber) Wagner (Nathan Wagner) of Hilliard, Ohio; her great grandchildren, Maddison, Nick, Faith, and Colt Clemens, and Lillian and Avery Wagner; and her daughter in love, Gwen Tinkle.
In addition to her parents, Sara was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, Bob Bennett, and her daughters, Lucinda and Becky.
A celebration of Sally's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus, with Pastor Tony Price officiating. Burial will follow at Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison, Ohio.

Jeremy was a 2008 graduate of Tri-Village. He served in the National Guard as a ammunition specialist. In his free time, Jeremy loved to go hunting and fishing. He enjoyed forging, the outdoors, and spending time with his children, family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Penniah was preceded in death by her twin boys, Ronald and Raymond Pearson.
Penniah is survived by her husband of 63 years, Donald Pearson, whom she married on November 7, 1959; her children, Lisa (Pavel) Sedlacek of Hollansburg and Julie (Steve) Chrismer of Lakengren; her grandchildren, Christopher (Kristina) Grider, Heather (Richard) Gragorace, Chelsea (Jayson) Barley and Samantha (Derek) Lucas; her 5 great grandchildren; her sister, Bonnie Lewis as well as numerous nieces, nephew and friends.
Penniah will be remembered as a sharp dressed lady who loved to spend time eating and shopping with her friends. She enjoyed cooking and keeping up with what was happening in the community. Penniah worked in the kitchen at the Brethren Retirement Community for 25 years. She attended Cedar Grove Church and was a member of the BINGO Girls. She and Don enjoyed "Clowning" and entertaining the children each fall at the Brethren's Home.
A celebration of Penniah's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Tribute Funeral Homes, New Madison Campus, with Pastor Tony Price officiating.

Obituary Preview: Marilyn L. Jenkins, 82, of Hollansburg, Ohio, passed away peacefully, on Monday, October 10, 2022, at her home.
She was born on May 27, 1940, in Hollansburg, to the late Bland and Lova (Payne) Downing.
In addition to her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 57 years, Doug Jenkins; her grandson, Jordan Douglas Jenkins, and her granddaughter, Brittany Nicole Gardner; and her sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Barry McClear.
Marilyn grew up on her family's farm just outside of Hollansburg. She would always talk about going to the Richmond Farmers Market with her dad to sell the produce they had grown. She was a 1958 graduate of Westmont High School. She had a talent for music. She loved to sing and played numerous instruments. She played the saxophone, guitar, and played piano and gave private piano lessons. Before she and Doug were married, she travelled all over the country with her sister, Evelyn. They would hop on a train and go on adventures together.
When she and Doug started their family, everything else was secondary. She was a homemaker, chef, taxi driver, and cheerleader for her kids and grandkids. She loved gardening and could grow anything. She was more about giving then receiving, but she wouldn't turn down a box of chocolates. Early in life she started collecting Dutch boys and girls. Over the years, she has amassed a collection of over 500 sets. She was outgoing, friendly, and selfless, always thinking of others. When she was out, she would make it a point to talk to people and smile at babies.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Vonda Gardner (Tom Johnson) of Richmond, Indiana, Vanessa Jenkins of Hollansburg, and Dallas Jenkins, of Anderson, Indiana; her grandson, Bryce Dalzell-Jenkins; her nephews, Ben and Caton McClear; her niece, Julie McClear; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
A celebration of Marilyn's life will be held at 2:00 PM, on Friday, October 14, 2022, at Tribute Funeral Homes, New Madison Campus, with Pastor Tony Price officiating. Burial will follow in Hollansburg Cemetery.

She was born on August 14, 1946, in Pikeville, Kentucky, to the late Watha Cline and Exie (Sesco) Kendrick.
In addition to her parents, Nell was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy Cline; and her sisters, Ruby Turner, and Charlotte Kimberlin.
Nell will be remembered for her love for her family. She was always caring for and providing a place for anyone who needed it. Nell took an active part in the lives of her children, being found on field trips, at field day, working concessions, helping with 4-H projects, and serving as a den mother. She also loved her animals, especially her many cats. After her children were grown, she continued her life of service working for Reid Hospital in Registration and in the Financial Assistance Office. She loved her crossword puzzles and very much enjoyed shopping for clothes.
Nell is survived by her husband of 54 years, Lonnie R. Mathews; her children, Terry Mathews, and Amanda (Donald) Wright, both of New Madison; her grandchildren, Brittany (Cory) Harris, Zachary (Renee Sandridge) Mathews, Chase (Anjelica Rameno) Mathews, Stevie Wright, and Samuel Wright, all of New Madison, and Cody (Mikaela) Wright of Oxford, Ohio; and her ten great grandchildren and one more on the way.
A celebration of Nell's life will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Cedar Grove Church, 373 Love Road, New Paris, Ohio 45347, with Pastor Tony Price officiating. Burial will follow in Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison.
Her family will be receiving guests on Saturday, September 24, 2022, from 10 AM until the time of the service at noon at the church.

Jerry was born in Connersville, Indiana, on April 8, 1942, to the late Alvia and Mary (Duckworth) Gulley.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his four brothers; Richard, Shelby, Bob and one in infancy and his sister in law, Nancy.
Jerry was a 1961 graduate of Connorsville High School. After high school Jerry served his country honorably in the United States Army. When he returned from service, he worked for the D & M factory in Connersville as well as working in other jobs around the area. Later, he worked for himself as an auto detailer. He enjoyed flying remote control planes with The Prop Busters Club in Richmond. One of his favorite things to do was boating on Brookville Lake.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Sandra (Rhoades) Gulley, whom he married on July 13, 1990; his children, Jerry A. Gulley of Richmond and Ronnie (Sandy) Gulley of New Paris, Ohio; his step children, Tracy (Jim) Frech of New Paris, and Kelli (Scott) Price of New Madison; his grandchildren and great grandchildren; his sisters-in-law, Ruthann and Julia; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

Shirley is survived by her husband and best friend of 62 years, Frederick William Clark, whom she married on May 7, 1960; her children Barry (Virginia) Clark, Darren (Julie) Clark, and Christopher (Tanya) Clark; her grandchildren, Daylon (Jessica) Poston, Danelle Poston, Erica (Steve) Greer, Vince (Ashley) Higgins, Zachary (Sheyla) Clark, Elizabeth Bailey, Derek (Katie) Pepperling, Sydney (fiancé, Joe Howell) Clark, Ronald Clark, Marquise Clark, Chloe Clark and Brody Clark; her twelve great grandchildren; her siblings, Linda Foust Madje, and Steve Foust; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Shirley was a 1958 graduate of Richmond High School. She spent many years as a stay-at-home mom raising her four children. Shirley enjoyed working before and after raising her kids as a gardener and factory worker. Once her children were grown, Shirley began spoiling her grandchildren. She would teach them about her plants, how to find crawdads, and cared for them well into adulthood. Shirley always had an open door, and there was never a time her grandchildren were not welcomed. She could make any plant grow and enjoyed caring for her plants and flowers. Shirley spent many years being active in the Girl Scouts and loved all of the children she led. In her later years, she enjoyed long country drives with her husband, discovering out-of-the-way restaurants.

She was a graduate of New Madison High School. Mary Ann was a member of the Whitewater Christian Church, where she played the organ, a part of the bell choir, as well as sang in the choir. Mary Ann worked at the Medical Building, for 27 years, in New Madison as the Office Manager for Dr. Alvin Heise and others. She later retired from the payroll department of the Brethren Retirement Community.She is survived by her daughters, Carol (Jay) Thompson of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Joyce Bright of Westerville; her grandchildren, Katie Thompson of Fairborn, Ohio, and Jacob (Jessie) Thompson of Carmel, Indiana; and her sister, Betty Anderson of Lake Wales, Florida.Visitation for Mary Ann will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 from 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM at Tribute Funeral Homes, New Madison campus. Bea was a graduate of Jefferson High School in New Paris. She spent many years working for the New Madison Supermarket and the Mini Mart in New Madison. Bea and her husband, Ed, also owned and operated the Snack Shop for nearly 15 years. She attended the Harrison Street Baptist Church in New Madison for several years. Bea was also a past member of the Lewisburg Promenaders. In her free time, Bea loved capturing the deals at flea markets and garage sales. She also liked babysitting for family and friends. She was born on August 11, 1926, in rural Darke County to the late Richard and Laura (Beetley) Straker. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Robert V. Ward. They were married on March 17, 1946 and he passed away on February 9, 1997. Also preceding her in death are her siblings, Dorothy (Howard) Ridout, Eugene Straker, and Marcella Straker.Mary was a graduate of New Madison High School. She spent several years working for New Madison High School as a cafeteria worker. Mary also worked for Neff Lettering in Greenville as a seamstress until she retired in the late 90s. In her free time, Mary enjoyed working outdoors and taking care of the yard. She loved watching high school and college basketball and was a former member of the Eta Pi Kappa Sorority. Mary's family was her pride and joy. She loved supporting them in all their endeavors and would rarely miss their sporting events. Obituary Preview: Daisy Mae (Wolf) Sturgill, 88, of Hollansburg, Ohio, went home to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and her husband, Walter, on Monday, April 4, 2022.
She was born on February 23, 1934, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Howard and Daisy Mae (Tulley) Wolf.
In addition to her parents, Daisy was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Walter Sturgill, whom she marred on July 19, 1952, and passed away on October 27, 2020; and her siblings, Clark (Maxine) Wolf, Howard (Jean) Wolf, Sarah (Bill) Page, and Cindy (John) Boskins.
Daisy was a true child of God. She spent her life serving the Lord and raising her family. She and her husband, Walter, pastored at Hill Top Tabernacle in Connersville, Indiana. They even started their own mission in Hollansburg. Daisy served in the church in many ways throughout the years. She loved her beloved fuzzy white dog, Shadow. She also enjoyed going to secondhand stores and capturing the deals at yard sales.
Daisy is survived by her children, Larry Sturgill and his wife, Kathy, of Pineville, Kentucky, Angela Harris and her husband, Jerry, of New Paris, Ohio, and Donna Fries of Hollansburg; her 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Daisy's life will take place on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Tribute Funeral Homes, New Madison Campus, with Pastor Rodney Robbins officiating. Burial will follow in Hollansburg Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Walter "Walt" Ketring, 79, of New Madison, Ohio, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2022, at Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio.He was born October 21, 1942, in Glen Karn, Ohio, to the late Basil and Alice (Short) Ketring.In addition to his parents, Walt was preceded in death by his sons, Devin and Brian Ketring; and his brothers, David and Gerald Ketring, and his sister, Janice Dowler.Walt was a 1960 graduate of New Madison High School. After graduating, he attended the Toledo School of Meat Cutting. Afterward, he returned home and started his career as the head of the meat department at the New Madison Grocery. In 1966, he and his wife, Sheila, bought New Madison Refrigerated Lockers, changing the name to Ketring Meat Locker. Together, they ran the business for 52 years. Walt loved his community and had the privilege of serving on the village council from the late 1960's to the early 1970's.Walt had several passions in his life. First and foremost was his family. Walt was a devoted and faithful husband, loving father, and would do anything for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed nature and being outdoors. He loved cutting wood and swimming in his pool. He loved spending time tending to his farm, also known as his 60-acre playground. He loved college basketball, especially March Madness. Moore; her son, Dr. Jim Moore; and her infant brother, Francis Alexander.Miriam was a lifelong resident of Darke County and was a 1941 graduate of Hollansburg High School. After high school, Miriam attended Capitol University graduating in 1945 with a bachelor's degree in Music Education. She taught music at both New Madison Local School and Tri-Village Local Schools. As an active member of The Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren, she served over the years as choir director, organist and deaconess. Living life, as a woman of faith, ignited opportunities for that faith to be put into action throughout her life. When she was younger, Miriam played violin in the Richmond Symphony. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and a tremendous love for her family and life in general. Putting puzzles together, watching Ohio State Basketball and playing cards were pastimes she pursued in her home with family and friends. Miriam was quick to accept any invitation if it meant spending more time with her family. She did not allow her age to be a limitation or a deterrent to learning new things. Obituary Preview: Carol Moses Royer, 97, of Arcanum, Ohio, was born to Roy and Isabelle Moses in Ingomar, Ohio, on July 1, 1924. She passed away after a brief illness at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio, on December 30, 2021, surrounded by family.
Carol attended Lanier School and graduated from Monroe Central High School. In her teenage years, Carol's family moved to a farm in the Eldorado, Ohio area, where she helped raise tobacco and run the family milk route. It is while running the family milk route, Carol met her husband of 68 years, Melvin Royer. At the time of their marriage, Carol and Melvin were gifted, by Carol's parents, a cow named Margie, who blessed Carol and Melvin with twin calves. That was the beginning of the many blessings Carol and Melvin experienced in their life together.
Carol farmed with her husband, plowing the ground, planting, and harvesting the crops. She helped with the cattle, hogs, and chickens on the farm. Carol always raised a garden that would supply the family with food for the coming year. She worked hard her entire life.
But the most important part of Carol's life was the way she created a "beautiful family". She taught her children the value of love, respect, and hard work. As children, Carol taught her daughters the life skills of canning and gardening. She taught her son the beauty of nature and skills of hunting, fishing, and trapping. Carol was an active member of Yankeetown Church, where she worshipped every Sunday. For Carol, faith, family, and farming were the most important parts of her life.
Carol taught her grandchildren the value of love and respect. Carol loved the time she spent with her grandchildren. When any of the grandchildren walked in the room, Carol's face would light up. She often talked about what a beautiful family she had.
Carol is survived by her daughters, Linda Benham of Richmond, Indiana, and Kathy (Terry) Roberts of Arcanum, Ohio; her son, David (Kathy) Royer of Greenville; her 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; her daughter, Susan Hora; and her grandson, Jimmy Benham. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Roy and Isabelle Moses; and her siblings, Howard Moses, Amy Baughman, Mary White, Bob Moses, Joan Baughman, Ginny Mowen and Jimmy Moses.
A celebration of Carol's life will take place at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at Tribute Funeral Homes, New Madison Campus, with Pastor Tony Price officiating. Burial will follow in Greenmound Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Ruth Annalee (Horine) Hunt passed peacefully at her home of nearly eight decades on October 12, 2021, following a long period of declining health. She was 100 years of age, born December 13, 1920 to Jacob and Ruby (Ward) Horine on a farm in rural Darke County.
After graduating from Greenville High School in 1939, she married one of the nine "Hunt Boys", the late Howard E. Hunt, and spent the remainder of her century on earth as a dedicated farm wife and mother of four children. Although Ruth was raised a city girl, she adapted well to the rigors of farm life, raising a family as a loving and caring mother.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Ruby Horine, her husband Howard and twin siblings Esther (Horine) Troutwine and Lester Horine, son-in-law Thomas Tiernan, and grandson Tyrone Fink.
Ruth was an active member of Eastern Star, Fort Black Chapter #336. She was a past Worthy Matron, Grand Representative of Ohio to South Carolina, and served in many of the chairs during ritual ceremonies. She was a long-standing member of the United Methodist, Otterbein Church. Ruth loved baking and cooking, and looked forward to Sunday evening dinners with family; an uninterrupted tradition for over 50 years.
Ruth is survived by four children and their spouses. Shirley (Hunt) and Kenneth Fink, Dianna (Hunt) Tiernan, Douglas Hunt, and David and Deborah (Anderson) Hunt. She is also survived by five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside Services for Ruth will be held at Greenmound Cemetery, New Madison, Ohio on October 14th at 2:00pm. Service will be officiated by family. Eastern Star services will begin at 2:00pm.

Patty was born on July 5, 1930, near Palestine, Ohio, the late Orville and Mildred (Wilson) Wilt.
In addition to her parents, Patty was preceded in death, in 2016, by her husband, Waldo Royer, whom she married on August 1, 1971; her sister, Zerma Wilt; her brothers, Byron "Bud", Dale, Gene, Richard "Dick" and Robert "Bob" Wilt.
Patty was a premature baby, born at home near Palestine. She has always credited the Darke County Health nurse and women of the Palestine community for helping her survive. She graduated from Palestine High School in 1948. As a young girl, she helped with the family farm and then began working at the grocery in New Madison in August 1959, retiring "for good" in 2002. Patty always enjoyed sewing for her family and made many things for her daughters and grandchildren. There are even things waiting to be worn by her great grandchildren.
Patty is survived by her children, Sharon (Brian) Anderson, of New Madison, Mike Royer of Greenville, Ohio, and Debbie (Jeff) Gutheil of West Carollton, Ohio; her ten grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Joe Royer officiating. Burial will be in Greenmound Cemetery.

Jan was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Robert Allen Keller; her parents, Kenneth W. and Thelma E. Fourman; and her children, Beth Ann Lowe and Donald Jay Keller.
Jan attended Miami-Jacobs Business College in Dayton. She worked as an administrative assistant in various companies while most recently serving as a customer service representative for Regions Bank in Seminole. Jan was a Methodist and belonged to Oakhurst Methodist Church in Seminole.
Jan and Bob were members of the American Boating Club and owned seven different boats. She and Bob taught over 300 students in safe boating classes and traveled all over the USA as well as many overseas charters. Jan worked with the Power Squadron and American Boating Club in Dayton and St. Petersburg, Fla. and was known as "Buckeye Gal." Jan was active with the Girl Scouts and enjoyed sewing and knitting.
She is survived by her sister Karol Gilfillan and her husband, Larry, and many nieces and nephews that are scattered throughout the United States.
A graveside service will be held at Greenmound Cemetery, New Madison, Ohio, at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 19, 2021 with Pastor Tony Price officiating.

Sharon loved her family and enjoyed gatherings with both immediate and extended family members. Back in the day, she enjoyed the dancing and music at The Steel Butt Party Barn in New Madison. She will be missed by many family, friends, and most definitely by her dog Joplin and her cat Kallie.
