Fred Baker Rogers was born August 25, 1926, in Hamilton, New Jersey, to Dr. Lawrence H. Rogers and Eliza C. (Thropp) Rogers. He and his sister, Elizabeth Rogers was raised in Hamilton, where he graduated from high school and went on to earn an Associate of Arts degree from Princeton University, 1947, Doctor of Medicine, Temple University, 1948; Master of Science in Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, 1954; Master’s in public health, Columbia University, 1957; special student, Johns Hopkins University, 1962. Dr. Rogers had an illustrious career path; Intern, Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia, 1948-1949; chief resident physician, Temple University Hospital, 1953-1954; United States Public Health Service fellow, Temple University School Medicine, 1954-1955; assistant professor preventive medicine, Temple University School Medicine, 1956-1958; associate professor, Temple University School Medicine, 1958-1960; professor, Temple University School Medicine, 1960-1990; professor emeritus, Temple University School Medicine, since 1991; department chairman, Temple University School Medicine, 1970-1977. Lecturer epidemiology Columbia University School Public Health, 1957-1968, School Nursing, University of Pennsylvania, 1964-1967. Consultant United States Navy Hospital, Philadelphia, 1964-1973. Dr. Rogers also proudly served our country as a physician and a member with the Medical Corps United States Naval Reserve, 1950-1953, Korea, captain (retired) United States Naval Reserve. He was also a member of the Fellow American College of Physicians; Member American Medical Association (past chairman section preventive medicine), American Public Health Association, Royal Society Medicine of London (honorary), Sigma Xi, Alpha Omega Alpha, Phi Rho Sigma. One of Dr. Rogers many achievements were writing the book titled, “Your body is wonderfully made, (You look at life books)” on January 1, 1974, published by Putnam. He was also listed as a noteworthy Medical Educator by Marquis Who’s Who. Dr. Rogers was a respected member of the medical field and in spite of all
his honors’, he is described as very a compassionate, humble, and kind man by his friends and colleagues.
Dr. Fred B. Rogers was a lifelong bachelor, and he was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Eliza Rogers, and his sister, Elizabeth Rogers. Dr. Fred B. Rogers memorial mass will be held at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral located at 801 West State Street, Trenton, NJ 08618 (date and time to be announced) and following the memorial mass, he will be laid to rest with his family at Greenwood Cemetery, located at 1800 Hamilton Avenue, Hamilton Twp NJ 08609.

His sisters Ruth Washington and Renée McDonald (Patrick), his favorite sister-in-law, Shelley Hazell. His nieces and nephews, Jalissa Brooks, Christian Hazell, Nicholas Hazell, Melanie Williams, Timya Hazell, Jahshaun Hazell, Jya Hazell, Jahmir Hazell, Kayla Harris, Taja Davis, Tiana McDonald, Nevius Page, Taquan Gibson, Dacquiece Holland, David Holland, and Larry Holland Jr. He is also survived by his aunt Rochelle and uncle Andy of Chicago, IL, aunts, uncles, cousins, and other extended family members. A very special thanks to his brother and best friend of over 30 years, Mr. Adrain Turner of Georgia for helping carry out his wishes.
Lamar will have memorial services with military honors to be held on January 29, 2022, at Progressive Funeral Home, located at 4235 Saint Marys Road, Columbus, Georgia 31907 at 1:00 p.m. A homecoming celebration will be held on February 5, 2022, at Cavalry Christian Fellowship Ministries, 611 Parkway Avenue, Ewing NJ 08618. He had a tremendous love for music and worked diligently on his craft. You could always find him recording in the studio, producing and directing videos, and performing at shows throughout NY, NJ, and PA. Freddie married the love of his life, Diana Hodges-Davis, on September 18, 2020. His love for family, friends, and the community was his heart’s joy. Freddie often took his entire family out to dinner and paid the tab. He would provide activities for the children at community events. He recently expressed his desire to have a “Back to School” event for the children in his neighborhood. Everyone describes him as a person who would “give the shirt off of his back.” Freddie was predeceased by his father, Freddie Washington, his mother, Alfreda Riggins, stepfather, Eugene Riggins, uncles, John Davis and Charles Mitchell, Jr. He leaves to mourn his loving and devoted wife, Diana, a son, Jaheim Hodges, and three daughters, Shiree, Alfreda, and Diana. His mother-in-law, Tina Hodges, father-in-law, Willie Hill. 4 sisters, Detricia Savage of Maryland, Monique (Michael) Greenleaf of Trenton, NJ, LaRhonda Davis of Trenton, NJ, and Frederica Eley of Charleston, SC. 2 special cousins who were like a brother and sister, Michael Davis and Natasha Hicks, both of Trenton, NJ. 2 great-aunts, Geraldine Ross of Ewing, NJ and Donna Grove of Altoona, PA. 2 aunts, Juanita Picott of Trenton NJ and Anna Eley of Charleston, SC. 2 uncles, Melvin Davis of Altoona, PA, and Bryant (Kim) Davis of Trenton, NJ.
