Obituary Preview: ​Ronnie O'Neil Adams was born to the late Azalee Lemons-Evans and Bishop Evans and Bishop Evans on July 15, 1960. He heard the call from his Heavenly Father and departed this Earthly Life on Saturday, April 9, 2022.
He received Christ at an early age and was a member of the Lone Star Baptist Church of Hallettsville, Texas.
Ronnie graduated from Sam Houston High School in San Antonio, Texas in 1980 where he ran track and played football. From an early age, he was a huge sports fan taking interests in everything from basketball to baseball to pro fishing. He could talk to you for hours about anything, especially trucking, a profession he dedicated more than 37 years of his life to.
Ronnie was a devoted father, grandfather, and brother and will be deeply missed by all who loved him. He is preceded in death by his mother and father; his stepmother, Doris Evans; his grandmother and grandfather, Vetta and Jake Lemons; as well as four aunts, two uncles, one niece and one nephew.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Sophia Adams; his twin daughters, Latortia Hollins (Charles) of Hallettsville, TX and Portia Hogg (Kevin) of Lincoln, CA; and his beloved daughter and son, Savannah & Ronnie Adams of San Antonio, TX. He also leaves behind his brothers, June Bishop Lemons of Hallettsville, TX and Jeffery Evans and L.C. "Hippie" Miller of San Antonio, TX; sisters, Beverly Paige and Carolyn & Dorothy Adams of Hallettsville, TX; his sisters. Betty, Shorn. Yvonne and Marjorie Evans, Faye Alexander and Judy Terry of San Antonio, TX, Ronnie also leaves behind three grandsons, four granddaughters, a goddaughter, two stepdaughters, two stepsons, two aunts, and a host f nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.

​Thelma Ray Devroe was born February 15, 1935, in Holman, Texas to Earl and Katherine Thompson. She was the first born of two. Thelma attended school in La Grange and Dunbar located in Temple, Texas. She confessed her love for Christ at an early age. She was a member of Bethlehem AME Church in La Grange, Texas. Later in life she became a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church n Plum, Texas.
Thelma worked at the old hospital in La Grange for many years. She also worked at the old Bon Ton Restaurant before she retired. Her passion was going to church and praising the Lord! Her hobbies were playing bingo, cards and visiting with family and friends. She loved to make people laugh and was always the center of attention.
Thelma was married to Clarence Devroe and they had one son named Michael Devroe. She had two other children who preceded her in death, Kathy Candrick and Milton Candrick, one grandson, Demarkkus Johnson; father, Earl Thompson and mother, Katherine Thompson.also preceded her in death.
She leaves behind her cherished son, Michael Devroe and daughter-in-law, Terril Devroe; one brother, Earl Thompson and sister-in-law, Keya Thompson; one aunt, Margaret Adams, seven grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, many cousins and friends who she loved well.

She is loved by many, and she loved them back. Valencia didn't want anyone to shed any tears. She wanted laughter and fun. Valencia passed away April 2, 2022, at Cuero Regional Hospital in Cuero, Texas.

Marjorie Wilkerson - February 05, 1942 - March 18, 2022

Obituary Preview: Marjorie Griffin Wilkerson was born February  5, 1942 to the parents of Frank and Minnie (Rogers) Griffin in Plum, TX.  Marjorie (also known as Margie) was the baby.  Her siblings were Elmo Duncan, Wilburn Duncan, Hattie Mae Duncan-Griffin, Ernest Lee Griffin, Desselene Griffin Marshall, Willard Griffin, Tyree Griffin.
She met and married Ernestine Wilkerson (known to some as Brother, Steen, Wiggy, and Uncle Bubba)  on December 6, 1958.  They were married 58 years before his passing in 2017.
Margie accepted Christ at a young age.  During her school days at Randolph School in La Grange, TX she played basketball and the clarinet.  She was an amazing mom providing each of her children with the foundation they needed to have a blessed and productive life teaching them how to believe in themselves and work hard and trust God.  She loved cooking and hosting family reunions.  During her adult years she maintained the ranch houses on Oak Meadows Ranch, worked at Longhorn Restaurant, worked as a seamstress making bridesmaid dresses, western outfits, draperies, and corsages.  She worked at the La Grange School Cafeteria for over 20 years before retiring and establishing a great friendship with her coworkers. She was known for her homemade bread, chocolate cake, and turkey and dressing!! After retiring from LGISD she decided to open her own bakery and named it E & M Bakery.  She has baked numerous cakes, cookies, and kolaches for many of us.  Margie’s absolute love was worshiping and singing for the Lord!  She was an original member of St. James Baptist Church, later moving her membership to Big Spring Hill Baptist Church where her husband was a Deacon until he passed.  In 2021 she returned to her home church St. James Baptist Church in Plum, TX.  She has been a faithful servant serving over the years as choir president, church secretary, church treasurer, mission sister, and on the food & hospitality committee.  She was truly an amazing mom, wife, friend, Christian, and known as the Queen of Everything. Obituary Preview: Sister Truvie Merle Jarmon-Harris was born on October 27, 1940, in LaGrange, Texas to proud parents, Reverend Flemon Jarmon and Stella Jarmon (Huddleston). She was the youngest of seven children.  She later moved to Houston, Texas and attended Jack Yates Senior High School. She also attended National Louis University in Atlanta, Georgia where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts. In 1967, she started working at Southwestern Bell where she performed duties as an Operator, Frameman, and Switchman. She was an extremely outgoing, energetic, and strong-willed woman who wore numerous hats during her lifetime. A poet with a unique voice and character, she authored, “The ABCs of Menopause…..It’s Elementary“ and “How I Like My Man”!
She was a skillful carpenter, teacher, entrepreneur, and world traveler. Later in life, she reunited with God and became a member of Mission Baptist Church in Houston, Texas.
On Thursday, March 3, 2022, Truvie went to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings A.V., Lutishia, Dilridge, Ivory, Georgia, and Morris. Truvie is survived by her first husband Scottye Burnett and their 3 children Rhonda, Keith and Kevin; her second husband Henry Harris and their 2 children Henry (Germaine) and Natalie. Also left to honor Truvie and remember her love are her grandchildren Morgan, Phillip, Jermaine, Bria, and Chase as well as a host of great grandchildren nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. ALBERTA CORNER JACKSON, the second beautiful daughter born to Maude Mackenzie and L. V. Corner, on April 28, 1929 in Fayette County, Texas. She accepted Christ at a young age, becoming a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. At Mt. Zion Baptist Church, she served on the Usher Board, as Chairman of the Cemetery Association and worked with the Mission Auxiliary. She served as a member of the La Grange Chapter of the Eastern Star for many years.
Miss "Jeff", as she is affectionately known, attended Mt. Zion Church School in Plum, Texas. She married Sterling Jackson and the two of them became parents to seven children. They made their home in Plum, Texas. She was employed at the Cottonwood Inn Restaurant as the head cook until her retirement. Cooking for her family during the holidays, especially making her famous cornbread dressing was the joy of her life. Her favorite hobbies were caring for her chickens and working in her garden. The love of her life was spending time with her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.
On February 26, 2022 at 7:00 A.M. Mrs. Jackson made the transition to her heavenly home surrounded by her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Maude and L.V. Corner: her husband, Sterling Jackson: her sons, John Corner and Sherman Jackson. She leaves to cherish her precious memory. He later met Patricia Steward in Austin, Texas and on March 7, 2014, they both agreed to be married. They remained together for 19 years.
James was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Leandrew and Veola Johnson: uncles, Ronnie Johnson and Leroy Ellis: aunt, Joyce Johnson: brother, Kervin Ray Johnson: sister, Cassandra "Sam" Johnson and cousin, Tommy Ray Johnson. James passed away on February 18, 2022, surrounded by his family members at the hospital. He will be greatly missed, but we know that the family will be reunited once again at the Gates of Heaven.

Obituary Preview: Beatrice Johnson Bratcher was born on January 17, 1954 in Glidden, TX, the oldest child of Lavo Binkley Jr and Juanita Wright during their union. She acknowledged Christ as her personal savior when she was a very young lady and became a member(s) of Olive Branch Baptist Church and Greater Smith Baptist Church. Later she attended and participated at Zoe Christian Freedom Church under the auspices of Rev. Dan Pore.
Affectionately called, “Lucy Mae” and “Ms. B” by those who knew and loved her, she attended Columbus High School. She was employed at Parkview Manor Nursing Home as a full-time kitchen aid for 15+ years and worked part-time at numerous local tri-counties nursing homes.  She later pursed her passion of caring for younger children and the elderly as well as performed residential/commercial janitorial services. She was a hard worker and provided excellent care to every client she babysits and/or care given for.  Her motto was, ‘Do your best in what you can, while you can, and you will reap what you sow.’ She remained dedicated in any job opportunities that came her way until her health began to decline.
Beatrice Johnson Bratcher had four children from previous marriage/relationship: Calvin Binkley, Rodney Johnson Sr., Stefanie Tamez and Tiffany Johnson. She later met and married Leon Bratcher Sr. and became stepmother to Leah Watkins and Leon Bratcher Jr.
On Friday, February 11, 2022, Beatrice Johnson Bratcher delighted in the Lord and received the call to come home and be with Him. She was preceded in transition by her parents, her former spouse, Joe Johnson Jr., father of her children, her oldest son, Staff Sergeant Calvin Binkley, brother-n-law, L.J. Johnson Sr., and sister-n-law, Vada Binkley.
Those that remain to celebrate her life are her husband Leon Bratcher Sr., her children, Rodney (Shalonda) Johnson Sr. of LaGrange, Texas, Stefanie (Antonio) Tamez of Columbus, Texas and Tiffany Johnson of Houston, Texas, her stepchildren Leah (Lee) Watkins and Leon (Lana)Bratcher Jr., eight (8) grandchildren, WaEsha Tamez, Rodney Johnson, Jr., Kenneth Newsome III, Anthony Tamez, Devin Johnson, Antonio Tamez, Jennifer Alexander and Darius Johnson, three(3) great grandchildren, Avery Carter, Javier Johnson, and Emery Johnson, her sisters, Evelyn Johnson, Lavern (Eddie) Smith, her brothers, Michael Binkley, Sammie (Dorothy) Binkley, David Wright, Elroy Wright, Melvin Mitchell Sr., her extended family, Carol LaCour, Cathy Foster, Janet Jackson and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends ad infinitum.

Obituary Preview: Earlene Marie Simms Jefferson (Cottie) (Nana), was born September 7, 1931 to Mr. Roscoe Simms and Mrs. Myrtle (Hardaway) Simms in Flatonia, Texas. Earlene had six siblings: Rudolph, Roscoe, Jr., Josephine, Earl, Emmitt and Melvin Simms all whom preceded her in death.
Earlene professed her faith in God and became a Christian at a young age, and continued her life as a strong woman of God. Growing up in Flatonia, Texas she married Juris French and moved to the state of California. After her mother became ill, she returned to Flatonia and eventually moved to San Antonio, Texas. She met and married Eares Williams, Sr. She chose a career in the Nursing Field, where she once worked with Dr. Denton Cooley. Earline loved her career of service.
When she retired, she returned to her roots in Waelder, Texas, alongside her then husband Manuel Jefferson, who preceded her in death. She continued to impact the lives of others with her monumental spirit of giving and helping members of her community. He was especially dedicated and fully served her church communities, Saint Paul Baptist Church and Mt. Olive Baptist Church locally. She loved working in her garden and sharing its harvest. She was a fantastic cook and enjoyed eating good food. She liked reading and remained interested in medicine. Earlene loved quilting and stimulating conversation whether the topis were politics, religion or articles written in the National Geographic. She was truly a community servant. when she recognized that someone needed help, no matter the need, a kind word, food, money, clothing or a temporary place to stay, she would provide. She cherished relationships with individuals and family. She was a great mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend.
She was a loving mother leaving behind two daughters, Doris Nell French Beauregard and Dr. Sara William, M.D., (Ronald "Ronnie" Scurry, Sr.), two sons, who preceded her in death, James Earl French and Eares Williams, Jr. and Linda Baker-Webber whom she loved as a bonus daughter. She was grandmother to Brady M. Beauregard who preceded her in death, Candice Scurry, Ronald Scurry, II and Dominique Scurry (Melissa) and Dennis Webber (Laura) whom she loved as her bonus grandson. Earlene was a great grandmother to Jaquoi Beauregard, Brady Bates, Nia Scurry-Mack, Riley, Isaiah, Kylie, Christina, Zoey Scurry and Joshua Robertson. She was a great-great grandmother to Jaylen Beauregard and Brady Bates, Jr. She leaves behind a sister-in-law, Dorothy F. Simms and a host of cousins, family and friends.
There are special people in our lived that never leave us even after they are gone. She was a Special Matriarch that will live forever through the love she shared with each of us.

Nina grew up in Hallettsville, Texas and graduated in 1969 from Stroman High School, Victoria, Texas where she encountered loving friends and teachers. Upon graduation from Stroman High School, Nina Johnson attended LVN school in Yoakum, Texas. She worked in this profession for over 30 years. Nina Johnson was united in Holy Matrimony to Harrell Johnson, to this union a child was born named Betina Harrell, and they moved to Austin, Texas after several years of Marriage.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Father, Eunice Freelon, Mother, Olevia Freelon and oldest brother, Aldene Freelon.

Obituary Preview: Mother Georgetta Patterson was the third born to George Homer Thompson and Katie Johnson Thompson on January 25, 1938 in Itasca, Texas. Mother Patterson grew up in the Dale Community. She married the late Melvin Elison and to that union five girls were born. Later she married Elder Charles Patterson that preceded her in death. She and the late Elder Charles Patterson were blessed to share over 39 years together. To that union five children were born, three girls and two boys. Mother Patterson also raised five of her grandchildren. She came from humble beginnings and was proud of her upbringings. However she knew what it took to care for her family. She was a country girl that didn't mind working hard. Proverbs 31:10 woman describes Mother  Patterson, as she had 6 am prayer with her family for years. She was an entrepreneur, cook and baker. She would often testify that while she was cooking and baking the Lord would give her messages for the saints. One of her favorite scriptures was Psalms 15:1-5. Through her steadfast teaching  and work in the ministry she raised and cultivated  in the family; a superintendent, a pastor, five licensed missionaries and one deacon. Without a doubt she loved her family,each child and grandchild felt special when in her presence.
Mother Patterson attended the Dale Public Schools. As a young girl she had dreams of being a school teacher. The Lord expanded upon that desire and blessed her to teach for him. She was a phenomenal and well sought after teacher of the gospel. She taught by precept and example . She was saved and filled with the holy ghost at a young age at the Dale COGIC.
Mother Patterson worked for the Leif Johnson family (of the Leif Johnson Ford Dealership in Austin) for over 23 years. She also worked for other families at length during her lifetime. Each time lifelong extensions and bonds were developed.
Mother Patterson was preceded in death by her parents: George Homer and Katie Thompson Kerr; a daughter, Wille Mae Ellison two grandchildren, Pastor Lyle Avery Ellison and Felicia Brown. Three sisters: Annie Mae Ellison, Mattie Ellison and Mandy Ruth Roland.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Missionary Gloria Barnes, Dr. Marilyn Ellison, Betty Watson, Etta Ellison, Missionary Charlotte Durden (Albert), Deacon Whalon Paterson (Sheree), Missionary Sarah Collins, Superintendent F.O. Patterson (Lady Lisa) and Maria Patterson. Three sisters: Mother Gloria McLennan, Juanita Ward (Hebert) and Beautie Ward. A special daughter, Missionary Barbara A. On one amazing day, May 13, 1940, a son was born to Bennie Hayes, Sr. and Aurelia James Hayes. They named him James Odis. He attended East Prairie Bernard Elementary School and graduated from Hungerford High School.
James accepted Christ at an early age, later in life on November 7th, 1982, he became an Ordained Minister under the leadership of the late Rev. Jackson Banks, Sr. He started farming for the late Henry and James Hlavinka in the 1960's until 1999, retiring due to a having a stroke.
In 1967, James was united in Holy Wedlock to Margaret Cook-Hayes. They made their home in East Bernard, Texas.
On December 30th, 2021, at 3:00 a.m. James departed this earthly life to his eternal home in heaven. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, mother and father, five brothers, four sisters, and three grandchildren.
