JoAnne Barbara Dimmock - November 20, 1947 - May 11, 2024

Obituary Preview: JoAnne Barbara (Brown) Dimmock passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 11, 2024 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born on November 20, 1947, in Philadelphia and moved to New London at the age of 5 and then to Waterford at the age of 14. She graduated from Waterford High School where she met her future husband, Raymond. They married on October 29th, 1966, in New London. Together, they had three children, Rae, Jeffrey and Keith.

She was an extremely talented lady. First, she was a seamstress for herself, then for her daughter and friends, creating prom dresses and wedding gowns, including one for Rae. She worked with the girls to decide on a design, took them to the fabric store and created a masterpiece that they could be rightly proud of.

Another display of her seamstress talent was when a new girl came to school, a tall girl, much taller that the band uniforms. She fixed them quickly and then excitedly told her basketball-coach husband about this very tall new girl at the school.

She then took up jewelry, creating many beautiful earrings, bracelets and necklaces for friends and family. Following that, she became skilled at creating stained glass works both small and large. For a few years, she worked at a stained-glass company doing design and manufacturing pieces as well as repairing large stained-glass windows from local churches.

For several years, she played softball for the Coventry team that was a member of the Tri-County Softball organization, including ten teams from several local towns. She was the catcher on the team when she wasn’t playing second base or the outfield. Her team won the association championship one year.

As the kids started getting into sports, she was quick to volunteer as coach and even as commissioner for the girls’ soccer and softball teams in the Coventry Recreation leagues. When they got to high school, she volunteered as the scorekeeper for all four basketball teams. In addition to doing that very well, she was always counted on by the players to bring lots of Big Red gum for them, the coaches and the referees.

After the kids all graduated from high school, she continued all her favorite activities and added one more, caring for her grandkids, perhaps her favorite pastime. She excelled at everything she did. In high school, it was archery. In softball, she could place hit and could always be counted on for a single or double every at bat. Later it was bowling where she boasted about the best scores in her leagues.

She is survived by her husband Raymond, daughter Rae Asselin, son-in-law Roger Asselin and sons Jeffrey (Shawn Dickson Dimmock) and Keith as well as 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Lana B. Dawid - September 02, 1954 - May 08, 2024

Obituary Preview: Lana Bruce Dawid passed aways surrounded by her family on May 8th, 2024 at the age of 69. She was a loving wife, mother, and beloved “Ama” to her five grandchildren.

Lana was born on September 2, 1954 to Rose and John Bruce. She grew up in Rockville, CT and attended Bay Path College. Lana worked as a medical assistant where she met her future husband, Andrew Dawid. The two married in 1975, and she fulfilled her dream of becoming a mother. Together, they had two children, Stacey Cox and Jennifer Dawid.

To say Lana was a kind and generous person would be an understatement. She was so proud of her family and made sure everyone around her knew all about their accomplishments. Her caring nature made everyone gravitate to her and over time she became like a mother to so many. She was loved by her son-in law Gerald Cox, as well as by so many family and friends. However, the role she cherished the most was being an “Ama.” She was adored by her five grandchildren: Harper, Charlie, Henry, Eden, and Grace.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Lana will be held on Friday May 17th from 3:00-5:30 pm at the Tolland Memorial Funeral Home in Tolland, CT. A reception will be held after at Beni’s Restaurant in Vernon, CT.

Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in her honor.

Jeremy R. Krol - February 11, 1975 - April 22, 2024

Jeremy considered Connecticut his home and served the state with pride through the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection. Beyond his passion for serving his country, Jeremy was passionate about classic cars, baseball, alternative rock, poker, the New York Yankees, and tattoos. Jeremy graduated from Tolland High School in 1993 after helping lead the Tolland Eagle baseball team to a State Championship in 1992. Jeremy continued on as a college athlete and played baseball on an athletic scholarship to American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts, which he graduated from in 1997 with academic honors.

Jeremy leaves behind his son Jacek James Krol, his daughter Annah Mae Krol, his mother Mary Krol, his brother Paul Krol (Christie Krol), and his sister Khristina Selley (Jared Selley). Jeremy also leaves behind his nieces Kylie Krol, Olivia Krol, and Sierra Selley, as well as his nephew Jaxon Selley. Jeremy was predeceased by his father, John Krol.

Jeremy will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his quick wit, his willingness to go out of his way for those he loved, his sense of humor, and for his all-around cool personality. As being an individual who was always loyal and protected his family and friends, his passing has left an impossible void to fill in the lives and hearts of so many.

Jhess will be remembered as a jokester who loved to laugh and a go getter for perfection. She had a beautiful personality with a smile to fill any room. Jhessica was always the optimist who never lost her sense of humor. We will miss her dearly.

Obituary Preview: Jared Scott Tetreault Sr, 40, of Tolland, beloved father, partner, son, brother, uncle, and friend died on Friday, April 12, surrounded by his family at Hartford Hospital as the result of cardiac arrest. Jared’s adventurous spirit and love of family was a constant source of entertainment: fishing with his four young children, nighttime swimming, the children’s annual birthday cookout, camping, shooting, cooking, playing cards and visiting the beach were his favorite past times. Having his children all piled on top of him while they slumbered was his most cherished moment. Jared leaves a legacy of family and unconditional love. He was known for turning normal days into the most memorable adventures with his spontaneity. He was a career union ironworker before transitioning to a full-time father- both of which were his greatest accomplishments. His passing leaves a huge void in the hearts of those who knew him.

Jared is survived by his loving partner and mother of his children Julie Blais and their four children: Jared Jr. (age 8), Jeremiah (age 7), Judah (age 5), Josephine (age 4), all of Tolland; his parents, Susan Hill and Napoleon Tetreault Jr.; his brother Napoleon Tetreault III and his wife Jennie and their two children Ben and Luke; sister Jennifer (Tetreault) Mannarino and her husband Robert, and their five children Matthew, Richard, Sydney, Joseph and Anthony, all of South Windsor; sister Amanda (Tetreault) Thomas and her husband Samuel and their four children Nicholas, Kellen, Bronwyn and Charlie Sue all of Phoenix, Arizona; brother Jacob Garrow of Tolland; sister Jessie (Tetreault) Lisk and her husband Zac and their two children Mila and Jack of Suffield; and many other family and countless friends.

Salisbury and Fernando Hernandez. He was an amazing son, brother, cousin and friend who taught each of us how to find the positives and live life to its fullest. AJ was born with an old soul and a smile that could lighten up a room. Despite fighting medulloblastoma over the past 2½ years, AJ tried to live as normal a life as possible. He was a fifth grader at Tolland Intermediate School (TIS) and enjoyed attending school when his treatments allowed. Outside of school AJ enjoyed playing baseball, collecting Pokemon cards, listening to music, dancing and making videos. He also enjoyed vacations, cheering on the UCONN baseball team, throwing out pitches at the Hartford Yard Goats, and spending time with friends and family. AJ’s journey with brain cancer was supported by his amazing team at CCMC, the radiation staff of

MGH and Hartford Hospital, the Make a Wish Foundation and Team Impact. Besides his parents, he leaves behind his sisters Kara Salisbury and Leslie Hernandez, his brother Jason Hernandez, grandparents Jeanne Salisbury, Felecita Hernandez-Aponte, and Ines Hernandez, Titi Lucy, and numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins (and Chides.) Chris, 72, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 7th in the ever-loving company of his wife and daughter.

Born in Northampton, Massachusetts, Christopher was a devoted music teacher for 45 years throughout New England who was passionate about inspiring creativity and expression through playing music. Chris was also an avid jazz and blues guitarist, who cherished performing alongside fellow musicians in an assortment of bands over the years.

He is survived by his loving wife Lynn (Gladwin) of 45 years, daughter Briana, her partner Timothy Sevigny, and their two children Theo and Felix. “Bapa” adored his grandchildren immensely and feeding the birds with Theo was one of his favorite activities. He also leaves his twin brother Albert, his two sisters Alison Benoist and Michelle Mullen, multiple nieces and nephews, and his cousin Mary (Fitzgerald) with her husband George Mantak, whom he was extremely close to.

With an affinity for great music and nice tequila, Christopher was a fun-loving and compassionate man who loved his family with his whole heart. He will be sorely missed.

Bernard B. Bible - April 22, 1942 - March 21, 2024

Obituary Preview: Bernard Bond Bible, 81, of Tolland passed away on Thursday, March 21. Bernard was born in Pisgah, West Virginia, on April 22, 1942. Bernard’s life was filled with devotion to his family and intellectual curiosity. He was married for 58 years to his loving wife Doris Haejin (nee Kimm) and their partnership was a model of dedication and growth.

The oldest child of Bond and Dorothy Galloway Bible, Bernard grew up in Morgantown, West Virginia and State College, Pennsylvania. He received a Bachelor’s from Ohio State University and a Master’s and Doctorate from Michigan State University. After eight years as Professor of Horticulture at McGill University, he joined the University of Connecticut Plant Science Department in 1977 and served as a tenured professor for 27 years. He enjoyed a productive retirement, serving on the board of the Hicks-Stearns Family Museum and as a volunteer educator for St. Matthew Church in Tolland.

Bernard was a man of ideas. Allowing his intellectual curiosity to guide his thoughtful beliefs on morality, economics, politics, and Christianity, he embraced Catholicism in his early seventies. He was equally fascinated by the natural world, carefully tending his many horticultural research projects, home gardens, and terrariums. He was especially passionate about his competitive tomato greenhouse growing course in which he taught generations of UConn Plant Physiology students.

In addition to Doris Haejin, he is survived by his two sons and grandchildren. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Wed. She was involved with her boys in scouts, and a long-term scout mom. She was a very talented artist and crafter. Judy's activities and interests included square dancing, gardening, hiking, skiing, riding a motorcycle, boating and was a great cook. She also loved nature, birds, swimming, and spending time with her grandsons at Disney. Judy had an unforgettable laugh and loved animals, especially dogs and she trained guide dogs for the visually impaired.

Besides her loving husband, Donald, she leaves behind her sister Janet Nolan and family, her sister Joanne Laliberte, her son Randall Billings with Selma and daughter, Elma. She leaves also her son, Bryon Billings and his wife, Sarah and their children, Braydon and Oscar.

Leonard Gerardi - May 13, 1948 - March 16, 2024

Obituary Preview: It is with profound sadness and so much love that we announce that Leonard “Lenny” Gerardi Jr. passed away at the age of 75 surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 16, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. Married 42 years to beloved wife Kathy Gerardi (Duval), he was born in Torrington, CT to Leonard and Victoria (Klosowski) on May 13, 1948.

After graduating from Torrington High School, he went on to earn a teaching degree from Southern Connecticut State University and taught physical education at Hall Memorial Middle School in Willington, CT for 35 years. Lenny loved working outdoors, having worked for nearly 40 years in golf course maintenance at Skungamaug River Golf Club in Coventry, CT. Lenny’s past-times included artistically building stonewalls, nurturing his garden, and maintaining his meticulous lawn. He also enjoyed golfing with his Saturday morning golf group and bowling with his Monday night league. Many lasting memories were made with Lenny and his three sons as they listened to favorite music in his workshop. Ever a loving “Poppy” to his grandchildren, he enjoyed special times with all of them.

Lenny will be missed by his children, son Leonard “Sonny” Gerardi, III and wife Kristen with their children Barrett, Mia and Scarlett, son Todd Gerardi and wife Jill with their children Grace and Jake, and son Jay Langley and wife Natalie with their children Noah and Aiden; his sister Betty Marinaccio and husband Alan and brother-in-law Ted Miasek and many nieces, nephews and very special friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Leonard and Victoria Gerardi and sister Mary Miasek.

The family wishes to thank the Mansfield team of Hartford Healthcare Hospice for their compassionate care and continuous guidance to his family enabling Lenny to pass comfortably and peacefully at home.

Salvatore Francis Vasi - January 15, 1942 - March 10, 2024

Obituary Preview: Born in the Bronx, NY, Salvatore Francis Vasi knew from an early age he wanted to be an architect. He excelled at drawing and attended the High School of Industrial Art in Manhattan, now known as the High School of Art and Design. From there he was accepted into Cooper Union, but he had to delay entry due to being hospitalized after being diagnosed with Type I diabetes. Sal worked until the next entry cycle, and then he attended and graduated from Cooper Union’s Architecture School. From there he pursued his Masters in Architecture at Yale University.

While in college, he attended a family party where he met Joann Micali, a friend of his sister Anita. They were married after he graduated from Yale, when they moved to Queens, NY, to start a family. His daughters Jennifer and Jessica were born in Queens, and Sal worked as a draftsman to start his career.

In 1974, the Vasi family moved to Goldens Bridge, NY, which, at the time, seemed incredibly far from the city, probably because the highway and the train line ended in a nearby town. Sal continued to work in Manhattan for a while, until he started a partnership firm in Westchester, and finally transitioned to his own company.

Sal worked on different types of building projects. He was a draftsman at the firm that designed the World Trade Center in Manhattan, and he loved to talk about the innovative and efficient elevator system there. Through the course of his career, he transitioned to working on shopping malls, and even designed the original Belz Factory Outlet in Orlando, FL. He also worked on countless other buildings, additions, and renovations. Sal also taught architecture for a few semesters at Dutchess Community College, where he enjoyed the class as much as his students.

In addition to anything architectural, Sal enjoyed drawing, golf, photography, and music. His favorite band was The Rolling Stones, and his nieces and nephews always enjoyed playing a Stones song at each family gathering, knowing their Uncle Sal would happily get up and dance, showing off his unique style.

Along the way Sal encountered many health-related obstacles, including diabetes, celiac disease, non-Hodgkins lymphoma, and Parkinson’s, among others. In 2019 Sal and Joann moved to Coventry, CT, to live with their daughter Jennifer so she could help as needed. Throughout all of this, his perseverance, and the persistence and support of his wife Joann, allowed him to live a long, full life.

Salvatore Francis Vasi passed away in Hartford, CT, on Sunday, March 10, at the age of 82. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joann, daughters Jennifer and Jessica Vasi, sister and brother-in-law Anita and Charles Lunde, sister-in-law Felicia Micali, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Anita and Ron Granberg, and many nieces and nephews.

Roger Peter Callegari - September 01, 1947 - March 08, 2024

Obituary Preview: Roger Callegari, a wise, loving, and remarkably handyman, passed away on March 8, 2024, at the age of 76 after a courageous battle with Chronic Kidney Disease and ALS. Born on September 1, 1947, in New Britain, to the late Peter and Mary (Buck) Callegari.

Married to his beloved wife and best friend, Shirley Wilhelm, for 43 years, Roger was a devoted husband. Their enduring partnership was filled with unwavering support for one another through life’s many turns.

Roger graduated from New Britain High School and Goodwin Vocational Technical School. His professional life was marked by precision, creativity and a work ethic that inspired many. His life was characterized by his deep commitment to his wife, his passion for the outdoors and his exceptional skill as a Master Carpenter.

He was an avid fly fisherman. His love for the sport was only matched by his enjoyment of shooting trap and skeet. It was in these moments of quiet reflection by the water or the thrill of competition that Roger felt most at peace with the world.

Roger was predeceased by his two sisters, Dorothy Callegari and Judith Callegari. In addition to his wife, Shirley, he leaves his beloved sweet Annie Marie. He will be deeply missed.

Rita will be missed by her children, son Richard and wife Sandy, daughter Kathy and husband Lenny Gerardi, daughter Denise and husband Stephen Tucker, son Dan and wife Pam, and son-in-law Terry Bongiovanni; grandchildren, Seth Duval, Justin Duval, Sonny Gerardi, Todd Gerardi, Jay Langley, Nicole Grillo, Ty Bongiovanni, Trey Bongiovanni, Alex Ricciardi, Jacob Tucker, Michelle Willbur, Scott Duval and Emily Duval; 18 great-grandchildren and her sister Lorraine Guyette.

She was predeceased by her loving daughter Eileen Bongiovanni and six siblings Fern Marcoux, Doris Roy, Roger St. Onge, Maurice St. Onge, Robert St. Onge and Jeannette Filteau.

The family wishes to thank her loving caretakers of Home Instead who made it possible for her to live comfortably at home, Mansfield Meals on Wheels who put a smile on her face every morning, and the amazing doctors and staff at Windham Hospital who helped her pass so comfortably and peacefully and provided her family with tender support.

Her real passion was being a Mom and later a cherished GMa, as her granddaughters called her. She loved to sew and crochet the most amazing projects and take many nature photos. You could always find her playing word games on her phone, connecting with people on Facebook, and watching the most ridiculous shows on TV. Sharon is survived by her two children, Debora and her husband Justin Clouser, her son Herbert Cswertek; her three beloved Granddaughters Olivia, Caelyn, and Loren Clouser. She also leaves behind her three sisters, Mary Nielsen (Rick Cheevers), Susan (Eugene) Halsted, Pamela Guitard and brother Thomas (Brooke) Guitard, as well as many nieces and nephews. Obituary Preview: William A. Unterstein Sr., 79, of Tolland, passed away peacefully Friday February 23rd, 2024, at home surrounded by the comfort of his family & lifelong friends. Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years, Connie Unterstein. Bill was born May 10th, 1944, in Bronx, New York and spent his youth in Massapequa Park, NY. He served honorably in the United States Air Force as a jet engine mechanic from 1964-1968 stationed in Dover, Delaware where he first met Connie at the Hickory Pit Diner. He married Connie on June 25, 1966, and finished his service commitment in the Philippines. They journeyed to CT in 1970 and settled in the town of Tolland, for 44 years.

He worked at Pratt Whitney, Terry Steam Turbine and finished his career with Ingersoll Rand as a steam turbine technician. He traveled all over the US and abroad and was known as Wild Bill, the man that knew everything about steam turbines. He was an active member of Saint Mathews Church as an usher and a member of The Knights of Columbus. Bill loved playing golf, UCONN sports, fishing in Maine, and playing cards with the Gang at the lake. He was Tolland youth Football coach for many years. Bill was known for his storytelling and colorful language. Most of all, Bill loved spending time with family and close friends. He was known as Poppop, with his grandchildren being his greatest joy.

He is survived by his two children, Jennifer Unterstein Allyn and her husband, Mark, of Bolton and William Unterstein Jr. and his wife, Gwen, of Ellington: his grandchildren, Madison Unterstein & her fiancé, Michael Kandolin, Colby Unterstein, Phoebe Allyn and Zoe Allyn. He is also survived by his bothers Nicholas & Patricia Unterstein, Robert & Linda Unterstein, sister in-law Patricia K. Unterstein and many nieces and nephews. Susana (Susi) Maria Ulloa was born on February 2, 1969, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She was the daughter of Carmen Ramos and the late Bienvenido Ulloa. Susana passed away peacefully on February 9th, 2024, at home surrounded by her loved ones.

She was known for her beautiful smile, caring heart, positive outlook on life, and her mentorship and advocacy for education - Susana will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Susana’s family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life, not the sadness of her passing. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Caruso, daughter, Elisha Beal, stepdaughter Amber Caruso, mother, Carmen Ramos, her siblings, Elizabeth Ulloa-Murray, Antonio Ulloa, Moises Johel Ulloa, David Ulloa, and Moises Javier Ulloa and their spouses and several nieces and nephews.

Susana voyaged to the United States when she was only 18 years old with her best friend Sonia Garcia to pursue her bachelor’s degree in political science at the University of Massachusetts - Boston. She was a first-generation student and a firm believer in the power of education. She knew that her journey to receiving a higher education would change her circumstances and life. After she graduated, she started to work at the University of Connecticut (UConn) in the Admissions office while she was in graduate school and later started working as the Director of the Upward Bound program. In the midst of fulfilling her career, she also completed her Ph.D program in Educational Leadership. In her own expedition to receiving a higher education, she had a few select people who helped her and greatly impacted her life, and she was forever inspired to do the same for other students. During her 27 years at UConn, Susana touched the lives of thousands of individuals, instilling in them the confidence and determination to pursue their dreams despite the odds stacked against them. Along with directing the Upward Bound program, she oversaw and helped in the creation of a DCF Summer Program for foster students in Connecticut called First Star Academy, as well as the creation of the College Advising Corps to help serve high school students in their college preparation process throughout the state. By the end of her career, she helped oversee 14 Pre-College summer programs across Connecticut. She also received numerous accolades including being an awardee of the 100 Women of Color, PRLACC Outstanding Staff of the Year, and the Women’s Center Women of Color Recognition Award, amongst many others.

From the start of her journey at UConn, she dedicated her life to higher education, and to making sure the next generations of underserved students had the necessary access to resources and opportunities to change their lives. She was so dedicated to this cause that in 2014, she testified at the Connecticut General Assembly to ensure that TRiO programs did not lose their funding. She was an extremely hard and dedicated worker, and succeeded in anything she put her mind to, whether it was pursuing her education or pursuing a fulfilling career.

While studying for her bachelor’s degree, she also had the opportunity to backpack around Europe and study abroad in Siena, Italy, which began her intense passion and desire to travel the world. She continued her passion for traveling the world and journeyed to a total of 44 countries with her daughter, sister, husband, and many more people. She traveled to five of the seven wonders of the world. She had the honor of experiencing adventures of a lifetime, like seeing the Eiffel Tower, the magic of the Northern Lights, and the Great Pyramids of Egypt. This is only a glimpse of the deeply moving and inspirational moments she acquired in her lifetime.

Susana was a radiant beam of light everywhere she went, and will forever be remembered for her grace, tenacity, kindness, and love that she exuded to the world and people around her. We can remember her by the orchids she loved, remembering to plan out adventures, and to just live in the moment.

Lois enjoyed gardening, bird-watching, sewing, and cooking for her family. Scott Patrick Gorman - August 27, 1968 - January 18, 2024

Obituary Preview: Scott passed away suddenly in his home on the morning of January 18th.

Scott served in the armed forces in his younger years, for the love of his country, and then went on to retire from the State of Connecticut Dept. of Corrections.

Scotty was a one of a kind guy who could make friends with anybody and everybody, no matter where he was. He lit up a room with his personality, had an infectious sense of humor, and was a pure comedian. He could make anybody laugh, even on their worst day. He was also a great listener and would be happy to give you advice if you needed it. Scotty was a “gentle giant” who had a huge heart which he consistently demonstrated through his generosity and loyalty to his family and friends.

Scott’s biggest enjoyments in life were spending time with his family, who he loved more than anyone could! He had a lifelong passion for his childhood football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and of course his Boston Red Sox.

Unlike so many who leave this earth, at the time of his sudden departure, he was “soaring” on his way (up) to a new and exciting life in Georgia with his wife, and his two step-children, who he adored as much as his own three daughters.

Scott leaves behind his mother and father, James and Loretta Gorman of Tolland and his wife, Julie of South Windsor. He also leaves behind his three beloved daughters, Brooke (and husband, Justin Dubois) of Ware, MA, Megan (and husband, Thomas Tribble) of Tolland, CT, and Makayla Gorman, also of Tolland. Scott was also the loving caretaker of his two wonderful step-children, special needs Catina, who he loved unconditionally, and Angelo, his only son by marriage with whom he had a very special bond. They were inseparable! Scott also leaves behind his older brother, Jim Gorman (and wife Zina) and “big sis” Kelly(and husband, Todd) LeBlond, all from Tolland.

Scott had his first grandson, Noah, to whom he wished a very bright and happy future. He also leaves behind some (very favorite) nieces, Sarah Gorman of Portland, Oregon, Ashley Goepfert (and her husband, Steve) of Tolland, Brittany LeBlond, of Delray Beach, Florida, and several great nieces and nephews. Paulette is also remembered by an aunt, sisters and brother-in-law, several nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, and loyal neighbors. She was the sister of the late Ronald Costa. Obituary Preview: Justin R. Urban, 48, of Tolland, CT, passed away peacefully at home with his family on January 7, 2024 after a year and a half battle with cancer. He was born in New Britain, CT on March 14, 1975 to Joyce and Peter Urban, and grew up in Coventry, CT. Justin attended Coventry High School before studying Aerospace Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, going on to work at Pratt and Whitney. Justin is survived by his wife of 25 years, Kristin, and two children, Emma and Cameron, as well as his parents and sister, Pamela Urban. He is also survived by loving in-laws Ray and Zan Glowaky, sister and brother in-law Stacy Glowaky and Joe Donahoe, nieces and nephews, many cousins, aunts and uncles, and his dog, Sadie. From an early age Justin was intrigued with how things worked and was fascinated by aviation. He loved following his dad around and fixing things at the house while growing up. He went on to rebuild vehicles, got his pilot’s license, and enjoyed projects that challenged his mind. Justin’s devotion to his children led him to volunteer coach for both soccer and basketball when they were younger. He also enjoyed coaching the high school pole vaulters on the track team. He cherished running a co-ed soccer team with his wife and many friends. He was not only an engineer and scientist, but also loved inventing, homesteading, and exploring. He truly could fix or build anything! He loved spending time at the Manchester Sportsmen’s Association and particularly enjoyed skeet shooting with friends. Justin worked for Pratt & Whitney for over 25 years and was recently promoted to Senior Fellow in Experimental Methods. Justin possessed a great deal of depth in a wide variety of technical areas, but what his colleagues most noted about him was that he excelled at encouraging cooperation between engineering disciplines and organizations within Pratt & Whitney. There are many examples of this, but what stands out most is his fundamental understanding of the underlying physics associated with each of the technical problems he worked on. Justin was an Engineer’s Engineer; he understood the physics of how things interact with one another in jet engines. Colleagues remark about his ability to bring different groups of people together to work on technical problems. An illustration of this was his work with the company’s patent review board and communities of practice (CoP), both of which have helped to improve cross discipline communications at Pratt & Whitney. The patent review board has the difficult task of evaluating ideas and deciding which of them should be pursued as patents for the corporation. Over his career Justin authored or teamed on 23 patents of which 14 were filed by the corporation. Justin initiated the CoP for Experimental Methods, as it was his belief that these types of processes could do more than just replace our previous method of working and could make us be even better with their use. During his tenure, Justin was able to morph these methods into an “educational tool” which encouraged younger engineers to work together. Throughout his career what consistently stood out was his creativity, ability to think outside the box and his remarkable ability to stay calm and focused in the middle of a firestorm. On one particularly challenging problem, Justin came up with the clever solution of flowing helium instead of air which had the effect of tripling the speed of sound of the local flow field and solved the technical problem for the team! Beyond his technical prowess, what colleagues remark about Justin is how he handled himself day to day. He respected others and no matter how difficult the challenge, he would move unwaveringly toward a solution or resolution. Justin took a holistic approach to engaging Virginia Tech students. While practicing at the highest level as an industry engineer, he generously shared his experience with students through in-depth involvement with research projects which led to VTech students becoming professionals at Pratt & Whitney, joint technical publications, patents, and new engineering practices. Justin’s character was solid and steadfast, once on a path Justin would keep everyone focused with an eye on the end goal no matter how hard the problem. No corners would be cut, and his unwavering resolve would see the project through. It was this part of his character that drove us all to be so much better! We at Pratt & Whitney will miss him dearly. A wake is to be held on Friday, January 12th from 3-6 p.m. at Tolland Memorial Funeral Home 375 Merrow Road, Tolland, CT. Carol Louise Chipkin - August 01, 1944 - December 31, 2023

Obituary Preview: Carol Louise (Mahan) Chipkin, of Coventry, CT, beloved wife of Robert Gerald Chipkin of 53 years, passed away at home on Sunday, December 31, 2023 after a brief illness. She was born on August 1,1944 in Naugatuck, daughter and only child of the late Carlton and Mary Mahan. Carol graduated from Quinnipiac University in 1970, and moved to West Haven after her marriage to Robert (Bob) Chipkin in 1970.

Carol and her family moved within Connecticut over the next six decades between the towns of Forestville, Suffield, and Coventry, residing in the latter for the last 20 years. Her son David was born in Forestville during 1976.

Carol was always interested in the science education of younger children. She worked for many years at both the Talcott Mountain Science Center and the Talcott Mountain Academy. She was a judge for decades at both local and statewide science fairs. She worked for many years in library services at Loomis-Chaffee High School in Windsor. She was also a 25-year weekly volunteer for the Suffield Special Olympics Bowling group, and was beloved by both participants and parents for her long-term efforts.

Not being content to slow down when approaching retirement age, Carol decided to build her dream home on a farm in northern Coventry. When that was accomplished in 2003, Carol and her husband started Cassidy Hill Vineyard, and built both a 10-acre vineyard and a commercial winery on the property. Carol most appreciated working with generations of young people and seeing them prosper and succeed. They were her informal “second family”.

Carol was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister-in-law. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 53 years, by her son and daughter-in-law Rachael of Lutherville-Timonium, Maryland, and by her 10 -year-old granddaughter Rowan, who always referred to Carol and “Grandma”. Her sister-in-law, Frances Colman of New York City also dearly feels the loss of her “sister”.

Her passing will also be felt by the vast network of friends and acquaintances that have known and admired her for years.

Obituary Preview: Joanne Lorraine (Brosseau) McQueen, 80, of Tolland, CT, beloved wife of John “Jack” E McQueen Sr. of 58 years, passed away peacefully at home with her family on Saturday, December 16, 2023. Joanne suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease for over 13 years. She was born on June 22, 1943, in Saco, ME, daughter of the late Joseph and Isabella “Bella” Marie (LaVertue) Brosseau. She lived in Island Park (Portsmouth), RI with her seven brothers and sisters until age 22; she was the second of eight children. Joanne resided in Tiverton, RI with her spouse and children until they moved to Tolland, CT in 1973 where they raised their three children in the same family home.

Joanne worked for 31 years at Trans-Tek in Ellington until her retirement at age 62. After retirement Joanne was able to devote more time to things that gave her the most pleasure such as her children, grandchildren and traveling. Prior to Joanne getting sick she enjoyed spending time in FL watching the Red Sox during their spring training; she also enjoyed walking the beaches of Myrtle Beach, SC during the off-season. She was a huge fan of UConn's women's basketball and watched all their games. She was also an avid reader of romance books that she would find at bookfairs and flea markets. She also enjoyed sewing and crocheting, making clothes for her children and blankets for the grandchildren.

Joanne was a loving wife, mother, grandmother (Nana), and great-grandmother (Great Nana). She will be dearly missed by her loving and devoted husband Jack and their dog JD, her daughter Cynthia (McQueen) Roberge and spouse Randy of Vernon, CT; her son John “Jay” McQueen and spouse Suzanne of Coventry, CT; and daughter Wendy (McQueen) Schnubel and spouse Mark of Ashford, CT. She also leaves behind her wonderful three grandchildren that called her Nana, Ashley (Schnubel) Lamot, Reanna Schnubel, and Samantha McQueen; her great grandchildren Delaney and Mason Lamot, and Andrew John “AJ” Randall. Joanne is survived by her sister Gloria (Brosseau) Sheehan of Fall River, MA; her sister Judy (Brosseau) Dekart and her life partner Patrick Kuntz of Tujunga, CA; and her brother Donald “Ducky” Brosseau of Fall River, MA. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Joanne was pre-deceased by her parents as well as her brothers Joseph “Junior” Brosseau Jr., Eugene Brosseau, sisters Anita (Brosseau) Fernandes, Debra (Brosseau) Richardson, and her granddaughter Melissa (Sargent) Randall.

Obituary Preview: It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nancy Raymond formerly of Tolland, CT. Nancy passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 14, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love and caring.

Nancy was born on October 3, 1941, in Bennington, VT to parents, Richard and Mary Coyle. In her early years, she grew up with her two sisters and brother in Pennsylvania and in her junior year of high school the family moved to Holden, Massachusetts. It was there, in high school, that Nancy met the love of her life, Henry Raymond.

Nancy and Henry were married for 58 years before Henry passed away in 2019. They were inseparable, they just loved spending their days together and any observer could see how much they loved each other. And that love overflowed to their son, Bruce.

Besides being a wonderful wife, mother, sister and grandmother, Nancy had a career in bookkeeping and commercial lending. She worked for many years at The Savings Bank of Rockville and the Raymond Law Group. She loved gardening, the beach, tennis, reading, family gatherings, and baking the best apple pies. Nancy and Henry loved to travel and spent many winters at Anna Maria Island in Florida.
