Antonio Jose Salazar Escudero - December 23, 1929 - May 07, 2024

Departed: 05/07/2024 (Waukegan)
Obituary Preview: It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father Antonio Salazar, who peacefully departed this world in his sleep. His journey began in his homeland of Ecuador where he was born and raised. From the very beginning he exhibited a passion for storytelling and connecting with people.
In his youth, he found his calling in journalism, first through the airwaves of radio and later through the captivating lens of television. With an incomparable voice that resonated with authenticity and clarity and a keen eye for detail, he brought automobile racing stories and coverage to life, painting vivid pictures of "el deporte tuerca" as Spanish was his first language. His love for the auto racing world led him to become the proud owner and Editor-in-Chief of Autorama, a sports magazine that not only chronicled the triumphs and tribulations of the racers, but also celebrated the spirit of competition and camaraderie.
In 1996, our father Antonio, embarked on a new chapter of his life, immigrating to this country to reunite with his kids and grandkids. With perseverance and dedication, he embraced the opportunities presented to him, ultimately achieving the milestone of becoming a United States citizen- a testament to his enduring commitment to his adopted home.Though he leaves behind a legacy of journalistic excellence, it is the memories of his warmth, humor, and unconditional love that we will cherish most dearly. Antonio touched the lives of many with his kindness and wisdom, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to our beloved father, let us find solace in the knowledge that his spirit lives in the hearts of those he loved. Antonio is survived by his three sons, Marco Antonio, Edgar, and Roberto Salazar. His twin brother Edwin Salazar, his daughters-in-law Iliana, Monica and Katie. His grandkids Jacqueline, Adrian, Robert, Nina, Jennifer, Jessenia, Gysselle, Gabriel and Gabriela Salazar, Chris, Destiny, Angelina, Isaac, Samantha, and his great-grandchildren.
