Jerry W. Poston - January 05, 1941 - April 13, 2024

Departed: 04/13/2024 (Armada)
Obituary Preview: Jerry W. Poston, age 83, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024 after a brief illness.
He was born in Livingston, Tennessee on January 5, 1941 to Walter and Mamie (nee Smith) Poston. The family moved to Detroit in the mid-forties and Jerry grew up in Hazel Park and Royal Oak, Michigan. A hard-working young man, he worked many jobs as a teenager to save enough money to buy his first car to hot rod and customize. One of the first group to cruise Woodward and drag race at the stop lights, he claimed to have the fastest car on the street at one time. Eventually he traded the car for a motorcycle and bummed around Caseville where he met Linda Deering in 1961. They were married after a brief courtship and moved to Royal Oak. He became a boring mill operator, a job he was particularly suited for with his sharp mind and mechanical ability. In 1963 his son Michael was born. A move to Sterling Heights in 1965 was followed by the birth of his daughter Michelle in 1967. Having never lost the "need for speed" Jerry began building and racing go karts for several years and took flying lessons for the first time.
He started two successful businesses, J.W. Poston Co. in the late '60's and Armada Boring Inc. in 1973. In 1969, Jerry bought his dream home in Armada. It was his pride and joy and he lived there until the time of his death. They made many improvements to the house and enjoyed planning each step. He always enjoyed tinkering with all things mechanical and it wasn't long before he filled the newly remodeled attic rec room with a few juke boxes, pinball machine and other coin ops he restored. They joined the pool table he put up there long before the space was finished. In the early 1980's Jerry got his pilot's license and fulfilled another dream by buying a plane. He also expanded his business, bringing son Michael into the fold as well as future son-in-law William Poulos. He loved creating new ways of running his business to maximize profits and more importantly, avoid paying taxes. In 1995, Jerry sold his business and retired.
He soon got into woodworking and built many pieces of furniture and built-ins for the house. He learned CAD and used the software to design and print blueprints for the many projects he built. He also enjoyed playing pool and the occasional Drambuie. Jerry and Linda loved spending time with the grandkids and were fortunate to live close by to attend all their activities. His sharp mind and sardonic wit were well known and appreciated by everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by wife Linda, both parents and brother Tommy.
He is survived by son, Michael (Sharon); daughter, Michelle (William) Poulos; granddaughters, Natalie Poston (Connor), Cassandra (Max) Skradski and Katherine Poulos (Noah); grandson, Christopher Poulos (Sierra); great-granddaughters, Madeline and Chloe Skradski and brother Phil (Phyllis) Poston.

Nannie was born on May 17, 1931 in Widecreek, Kentucky to Emery and Della (Brewer) Childers and grew up alongside her eight brothers and sisters. Nannie’s legal name is Marie, her midwife thought that would be a more appropriate name than Nannie. Nannie had a wonderful childhood with hard working parents, when she was just six years old Nannies parents told her “We are moving to Oxford, Michigan where money grows on trees!”. Rightfully so, Nannie was so excited, eleven people jumped into a stake truck and made the move to Michigan. When Nannie was older, she held multiple jobs like picking apples and working at a restaurant in Rochester, Michigan. In her free time Nannie loved to listen to bluegrass country music, be an active member of the Disco Methodist Church, care for her garden and cook, she is famous for her oatmeal cake. Nannie and Jay also enjoyed travelling to East Jordan and spending time with family on Lake Charlevoix. Nannie always loved to attend her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events. Donald Frederick Boyd - May 21, 1945 - November 25, 2023

Departed: 11/25/2023 (Armada)
Obituary Preview: Donald Frederick Boyd of Armada passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at the age of 78.
Don was born on May 21, 1945 in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was raised by Eldon and Neoma (nee Jones) Boyd. He met the love of his life, Francesca Hojna, and they married in Sterling Heights, Michigan on October 11, 1974. Don started working in construction at the early age of 16 and never looked back. He worked contracts in the early 80’s and established his Inc, Boyd Excavating Inc, in 1986. Don worked hard his entire life and the only thing that led to his business dissolving in 2013 was his decline in health. He instilled his work ethic in his children; teaching them to take pride in everything they did, respect for others and themselves, preservation, strength and of course, how to operate heavy machinery. He had the patience to teach anything to anyone but would call BS out immediately, never sugarcoated anything and was honest to a fault. You always knew where you stood with Don, he told it like it was. He had the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone and connect with everyone. Don had a fun personality and a great sense of humor with a dash of sarcasm. He enjoyed music, 50’s and 60’s eras, and never missed an opportunity to dance with his bride. Don loved his wife unconditionally and wouldn’t go anywhere without her and when he did, he was miserable and counted the minutes until he could return home. He could give shortcuts and routes to avoid any construction in Michigan and knew where every Coney Island was in Metro Detroit. Don’s passing has left a void in the hearts of everyone he knew. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends.
Don is survived by his wife, Fran; children, Shawn Boyd-Roeglin, Heather (Charlie) Frank, Anissa (William) Sell, Donald (Heather Fay) Boyd and Jared (Kristine) Boyd; grandchildren, C.J., Austin, Samantha (Drew), Charlie, Katie, Collin, Colton, Lucas, Kylie, Maley, Landyn, Dylan and Evelyn; and siblings, Gary (Kathy) Jones and Diana Wise. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon and Neoma Boyd.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday, November 30, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Tiffany-Young & Hauss Funeral Home, Modetz Chapel, 73919 Fulton, Armada. The funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at the funeral home.
