MS. ANNIE BELL SIMS - August 05, 1940 - May 15, 2024

Departed: 05/15/2024 (Thomson)
Obituary Preview: For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight; I have finished my course; I have kept the faith: Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at the day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. II Timothy 4:6-8
Because her earthly tabernacle had dissolved and deteriorated, Sister Annie Bell Sims transitioned to eternal life in her new heavenly mansion on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at the age of 83.
On August 5, 1940, Annie Bell was born to Henry Sims, Sr. and Amelia Sims. She was the nineth child of eleven children, as one of them died at birth. At a tender age, she came to know God and joined the White Rock Baptist Church. In her early years, she was educated through the rural church school system, but later went on to graduate from the Wilkes County Training School with the Class of 1958. After graduation, she was gainfully employed for 41 years as a blue-collar worker, having jobs at Central Soya Poultry, Sky City and Clark Schwebel Fiberglass Corp.
During her employment and after her retirement, she assisted with the care of her parents and older siblings, until their demise. In Annie Bell’s spare time, she loved to watch game shows and cooking shows, plant flowers and sit on the front porch.
Although she is physically removed from us, the life that she lived will continue to generate a lasting impression upon our hearts and minds. To perpetuate her legacy, she leaves behind two devoted sisters: Bertha Sims of Washington, GA and Eva Sims of Freehold, NJ; a niece who was reared in the home, as a daughter figure, Dr. LaTasha Johnson of Washington, GA; a godson, Ryan Cowan of Duluth, GA; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and acquaintances.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and acquaintances of the person's passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing essential information to those who need to know about the passing. They can also help to facilitate communication among loved ones, allowing them to share condolences, memories, and support during a difficult time.

Who typically writes an obituary?

The responsibility of writing an obituary usually falls on the family members or close friends of the deceased. In some cases, a funeral home or obituary writer may assist with the writing process. The person writing the obituary should have a good understanding of the deceased person's life, accomplishments, and personality.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, achievements, hobbies, and surviving family members. You may also include information about memorial services, donations in lieu of flowers, and other relevant details.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from 100 to 500 words. Online obituaries often allow for more detailed and lengthy tributes.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or multiple photos with the obituary. This can be a great way to personalize the tribute and provide a visual representation of the person's life.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and guidelines. They may require specific formatting, word count limits, and deadlines for publication.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, typically including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a more detailed tribute that provides additional information about the person's life and accomplishments.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary in advance as a way to control how they want to be remembered. This can also be a therapeutic exercise in reflecting on one's life and legacy.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies widely depending on the publication, location, and length of the tribute. Expect to pay anywhere from $50 to several hundred dollars for print publication. Online obituaries may be free or low-cost.

Can I edit or update an obituary after it's been published?

In most cases, it's difficult or impossible to make changes to a printed obituary once it's been published. However, online obituaries can often be edited or updated by the author or administrator.

What if I want to keep the obituary private?

If you prefer not to publicly announce the passing of your loved one, you can opt for a private or limited-circulation obituary. This might be shared only with close family and friends or through a private online memorial.

How long are obituaries kept online?

The duration that an online obituary remains available varies depending on the platform or website. Some may keep them permanently accessible, while others may remove them after a certain period.

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

Absolutely! Including meaningful quotes, lyrics, or poems can add depth and personality to an obituary. Just be sure to obtain necessary permissions or citations if required.

What if I'm unsure about what to write in an obituary?

If you're struggling to write an obituary, consider seeking guidance from a funeral home director, grief counselor, or professional writer. They can offer valuable insights and support during this challenging task.

Can I include humor in an obituary?

Yes! Humor can be an effective way to celebrate the person's life and personality. Just be mindful of your audience and ensure that any humorous anecdotes are respectful and tasteful.

How do I handle errors or inaccuracies in an already-published obituary?

Contact the publication or platform immediately if you discover errors in an already-published obituary. They may be able to correct the mistake in subsequent publications or online updates.

What if I want to create a memorial website or online tribute?

You can create a dedicated memorial website or online tribute using various platforms and tools. These websites often allow visitors to leave condolences, share memories, and upload photos.

Can I republish an obituary at a later date?

In some cases, you may want to republish an obituary on significant dates like birthdays or anniversaries of the person's passing. Check with the original publication or platform for their policies on republication.

How do I find archived copies of old obituaries?

You can search online archives of newspapers or genealogy websites like Ancestry.com or Newspapers.com. Local libraries or historical societies may also maintain archives of old newspapers and obituaries.

What if I need help finding information for an obituary?

If you're struggling to gather information for an obituary, consider reaching out to family members, friends, or former colleagues who may have insight into the person's life. You can also consult public records or social media profiles.

Can I include charitable donations information in an obituary?

Absolutely! Many families choose to include information about charitable donations in lieu of flowers as a way to honor their loved one's memory and support a meaningful cause.

How do I ensure that my loved one's legacy lives on through their obituary?

A well-written obituary can serve as a lasting tribute to your loved one's life and legacy. Consider sharing stories, memories, and anecdotes that showcase their personality, achievements, and impact on others.
