Obituary Preview: Dr. Jeffry Chandler Pennington, DDS, 91, of Simpsonville, husband of Jean Hamer Pennington, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2024.
Born on November 5, 1932 in Bennettsville, SC, he was the son of the late Jeffry Tillman and Erva Chandler Pennington.
Graduating from Bennettsville High School in 1951, Jeff went on to attend the Citadel and was then accepted into the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Dentistry. He graduated in 1959 and was awarded the Complete Oral Operative Restoration Medal of Excellence.
Upon completing his studies, he served two years in the US Air Force in Long Island, NY.
In 1961, Dr. Pennington became the very first Dentist to practice in Mauldin. He loved practicing Dentistry, and his patients loved him. In 1996, Dr. Pennington saw his last patient, retiring to pursue his other interests.
Also in 1961, he joined the First Baptist Church in Mauldin where he went on to serve as a Deacon.
He was a 1973 Charter Member of Holly Tree Country Club where he exercised his love of golf. He also enjoyed refinishing antique furniture, collecting and restoring Classic Cars, and taking family trips to Edisto Beach.
In addition to his wife of over 70 years, left to cherish his memory are his sons, Jeffry Tillman Pennington, II and Thomas McVay Pennington (Denise); two grandchildren, Jordan Pennington Addyman (Matt) and Chandler Pennington Willis (Jon); and two great grandchildren, Noah Addyman and Ava Addyman.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Wylda Smith.
A visitation will be held Sunday, June 9, 2024 from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Burial will be in Graceland East Memorial Park with military honors.

Obituary Preview: Johann Radcliffe, beloved husband, uncle and cat daddy, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2024, at the age of 72. He was born on November 13, 1951, in Egglkofen, Germany to the late John and Maria Radcliffe.
Johann grew up in a very loving military family that lived in villages in Germany including Garmisch, Heidelberg, Stuttgart, and Ludwigsburg; and in Maryland, in the Chesapeake Bay area. The moves during his youth allowed him to see much of Europe, fish and crab with his dad and friends on the bay and play sports on military posts and public schools, becoming an outstanding student and athlete.
Johann was appointed to the United States Air Force Academy on a lacrosse scholarship following his 1969 graduation from Sparrow Point High School in Maryland. He played on the USAFA Junior Varsity lacrosse team, but suffered a concussion that ended his college play. He graduated from the Academy in 1973 with a bachelor’s degree in engineering systems. During the five years following graduation, Johann was stationed in San Bernadino, Hawaii and New Jersey. He earned a master’s degree in information systems management from the University of Southern California.
Following his Air Force service, Johann lived in California, Hawaii, Ohio, North Carolina and finally settled down in Greenville, South Carolina. While living in Greenville, Johann had various jobs that took him all over the world for work. His last overseas assignment was in the Middle East, living in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and Muscat, Oman for almost 5 years.
Johann was married to Karen Corley for 20 of the 23 years they were together. While he nor Karen have children, Johann has been an animal daddy to two Alaskan malamutes, Kodi and Kadi, who greeted him at heaven’s door; and three rescue cats, Bobbi, Lily, and Louie, who remain in the home with Karen.
Johann loved sports, fishing, reading, traveling and playing fantasy football during the NFL seasons. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast in Simpsonville, SC. A funeral service with Military Honors is scheduled on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in the United States Air Force Academy Cemetery in Colorado Springs, CO with a reception to follow at the Eisenhower Golf Course Clubhouse.
