Obituary Preview: Robert L. “BoBo” Reaid, Sr., 90, of Chambersburg, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024 at his home. Born May 9, 1933 in Charlotte, NC, he was the son of the late Walter Boise and Dallas Reaid Boise. His beloved wife, Verdella E. Keith Reaid, whom he married on November 16, 1963, preceded him in death on April 23, 2004.
BoBo was a 1952 graduate of CASHS where he was a star athlete and lettered in four sports. He excelled in Football, Basketball, Baseball and Track and also played semi-pro football with the Chambersburg Cardinals. After high school he served in the US Army, 101st Airborne. BoBo was a member of John Wesley AME Zion Church in Chambersburg, and Laurel Lodge #133 IBPOE. He was employed as an Inspector for Sun Oil Company for 15 years until his retirement. He enjoyed supporting his favorite teams, the UNC Tar Heels and the Dallas Cowboys.
He is survived by four children Robena Reaid Spangler of Harrisburg, Suzanne Ransom of MD, Robert L. Reaid, Jr., of Harrisburg, and Serena Reaid of Chambersburg; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and two brothers, Carl “PeeWee” Watson of Chambersburg, and Walter “Junior” Watson of Cincinnati, OH. Aside from his wife and parents, BoBo was preceded in death by two daughters, Regina Reaid and Suzette Reaid; and two sisters, Christine Dixon and Juanita Carter.

Obituary Preview: Patricia L. “Pat” Malone age 89, of Chambersburg, and formerly Fayetteville, PA, died on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at the Menno Haven Chambers Pointe nursing home. Born February 5, 1935 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. II and Bertha Lambert.
She was married for 62 years to her late husband, John Donald “Don” Malone Sr.
Pat was a graduate of the Institute of Notre Dame in Baltimore, and she was a retiree of C&P Telephone/AT&T. She was a devout Catholic, devoted mother and enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting and crafts. She also was a breast cancer survivor.
She is survived by her six children, John D. Jr., of Indianapolis, IN; Michael P. (wife Beth) of Deep Creek MD; Kathleen M. (husband John Devlin) of Mount Airy, MD; Lawrence J. of Charleston, WV; David P. (wife Catherine) of Charlotte, NC, and Patricia A. (husband Stephen Ziegler) of Ellicott City, MD. She was the loving grandmother to 14 grandchildren: Keegan (wife Elizabeth), Kara (husband Timothy Gazdziak), Devan (husband Austin Rovito), Kelly, Rebecca, Lia, Megan (husband Brian Cabrera), Robert, Delaney, Sean, Sydney, Sarah, Justin, Zachary. Pat also had four great grandchildren – Daniel Gazdziak, Massimo Rovito, Dino Rovito and Thomas Cabrera. Pat also is survived by her brother Thomas J. Lambert III.

Obituary Preview: Charles W. “Chuck” Fries, 70, of Chambersburg, passed away at his home on Friday morning, May 3rd, 2024. Born October 14, 1953 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Edward Francis and Margaret Virginia Lugenbeel Fries.
Chuck was a 1971 graduate of CASHS. He continued his education at the Radio Electronics Television School in Baltimore, MD. He was employed at the WPGH channel 53 television station out of Pittsburgh for a number of years, as an audio engineer for the company. He then came back home to Chambersburg, where he worked as a radio disc jockey for Mix 95.1 radio station. Chuck was “born to blab” and loved talking with people and was a natural as a radio host. He also worked at the Inn at Penn National Golf Course as a handyman. He was an avid golfer.
Chuck is survived by his siblings, Edward F. Fries of South Park Twp, PA, Kenneth M. Fries of Waynesboro, and Marguerite L. Fries of Chambersburg. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. William H. Sellers - September 15, 1935 - May 03, 2024

Obituary Preview: William H. “Bill” Sellers, 88, of Chambersburg, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2024, at Silverado Memory Care in Frederick, MD. Born September 15, 1935, in Chambersburg, he was the third son of the late Harry and Gail Coble Sellers. His wife, Rosaline Boyer Sellers, whom he married on November 7, 1954, preceded him in death on February 7, 2012.
William retired from Grove Manufacturing in Shady Grove, PA in 1998 after 42 years of service. William’s greatest joy was spending time and watching his great grandson play football. He raced go-carts competitively while he was in his twenties and won first place several times. He enjoyed going hunting, playing cards, watching sports both in person and on TV, and playing the slot machine at any casino. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the New York Yankees. William loved to sit outside on his porch with family and friends and share stories of the past whether it was about playing ball at Portico Elementary School with his brothers, his two red Chevelles, or going to the dog races with friends.
William is survived by his daughter, Wanda Blatt of Gaithersburg, MD, his granddaughter, Heather Ledford and husband Dustan Ledford of Gaithersburg, MD, and great grandson, Bryce Ledford.
Services will be held 1:00 PM. Wednesday, May 8, 2024 in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Murray B. Stevens officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday evening in the funeral home as well as one hour prior to the service Wednesday morning.

She was employed as a seamstress at the Stanley Company, Chambersburg. Doris retired after 47 years with the company. She was a member of Second Lutheran Church of Chambersburg, Cumberland Valley Hose Company, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 1599, Elks Club Lodge 600, and American Legion Post 46 all in Chambersburg. Doris loved playing bingo and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie T. Thompson of Chambersburg; a grandson, Christopher R. Thompson and his wife Hilari of Chambersburg; two great-granddaughters, Skylyhn and Katy; and a great-great-granddaughter Rose Emberson. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel “Turk” Truett who passed away May 10, 2004; son-in-law, Dean E. Thompson, Jr.; six brothers; and one sister.

She was a member of Grand Point Church in Chambersburg, where she was a member of the Faithful Followers Sunday School Class. She also was a volunteer registrar for the Red Cross Bloodmobile. She was also a member of Tastefully Simple, as well as a 30+ year member of the Business and Professional Women/ Pennsylvania (BPW/PA). In her free time, she was an avid golfer, and enjoyed crocheting.
Leigh is survived by her husband of 51 years, David Price, whom she married on April 28, 1973; her sons, Cameron and Matthew Price, (spouse, Lisa); grandchildren, Luke, Levi and Lexi Price; and siblings, Gail Andersen and Sharonn Koger. She was a graduate of Glen Burnie High School. Marge was primarily a homemaker and loved her family more than anything. She enjoyed gardening and baking, and cooking for those she loved.
She is survived by her four children, Keith Bowen and his wife Wendy of Greencastle, PA, Scott Bowen and his wife Susan of Shady Grove, PA, Eric Bowen and his wife Rossana of Harrisburg, PA, and Rebecca Rhone and her husband Tony of Pond Bank, PA; two brothers, Wayne Brady (Merle) of Glen Burnie, MD and Ricky Brady (Nanci); and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Daryl Bowen who passed away January 14, 2018 and a sister, Dorothy “Dot” Brady.
Se0rvices will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, May, 6, 2024 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Burial will be private in Browns Mill Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Lois D. Swartz of Fayetteville, PA passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024 at Mercy House of Chambersburg, PA. Born May 31, 1933 in Eads, TN she was the daughter of the late Jerome Lovell and Ruby Pearl (Crook) Dougher of Eads, TN.
Lois retired from the U.S. Department of the Army (Fort Huachuca, AZ) on Jan. 15, 1987 after a full career as a Computer Specialist. She made and sewed most all of her own clothes during her career. After she retired she began making many quilts for both beds and laps and she also liked many different types of embroidery projects. After her husband retired, they enjoyed taking a number of various cruises with friends.
Lois is survived by her husband of 41 years, Edward H. Swartz of Fayetteville, PA, a daughter Patricia Denise Zimmerman (husband Tim) of Hereford, AZ, and a son Christopher Keith Columbus of Mission, TX.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister Maude Agnes Gamble and her brothers Richard Lovell Dougher, and Paul Samuel Dougher.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all those who have cared for Lois.
In accordance with Lois’ wishes, there will be no services and her burial will be private. Interment will be at the Norland Cemetery of Chambersburg, PA. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Inc., Chambersburg, PA.

Kenneth E. Stepler - December 14, 1928 - April 28, 2024

Obituary Preview: Kenneth E. Stepler, 95, of Chambersburg, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2024. He was born December 14, 1928 in Chambersburg and was a son of the late Earl and Erna Leberknight Stepler. His beloved wife, Mary Bard Stepler, preceded him in death in 2005.
Ken was a 1946 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School. Following high school, he entered the U.S. Army and served honorably from 1950-52. He hand wrote letters to his mother during his time in Germany and he kept those letters until his death. Ken later worked at Sun Oil Company for 36 years until his retirement. He was an active member of the Second Evangelical Lutheran Church, VFW Post 1599, the Marine Corps League and Goodwill Fire Company, all in Chambersburg. He enjoyed Sunday dinners with his family and buying ice cream for his grandchildren at Kenny's.
He was well-informed and educated of current and historical events and was a generous donor of various nonprofit and civic organizations. Many will remember him for his quiet, kind and humble nature.
Ken is survived by his son, Kenneth B. Stepler (wife Nancy) of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Kellen Stepler of Pittsburgh, and Treyton and Robyn Stepler, both of Fayetteville; and several nieces and nephews. Aside from his wife and parents, Ken was preceded in death by two siblings, Richard Stepler and Lois Lesher.

Obituary Preview: Betty Ramsey Amsley, age 93, of Chambersburg, PA passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Brookview Healthcare Center. Born November 28, 1930, in Maddensville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Pearl Wible Ramsey.
Betty married the late Charles W. Amsley on December 13, 1952, and for 59 years of marriage, was the most devoted and loving wife. Betty, also known as “Nanny” to her family, was the most kind and caring person. She loved meeting people. No one can recall Betty ever speaking a harsh word. She was a graduate of Saltillo High School and had attended the former Chamersburg Business College. In her younger years, she worked at the Valley Bank and Trust Company and the Bon Ton Department Store (formerly Eyerlys). She formed many special friendships with her co-workers and always enjoyed talking with her customers. Betty will be remembered for the joy she found in the simple pleasures of gardening, canning, family gatherings, and Bible study. She was a member of The Greencastle Church of God and formerly a member of the Hustontown Church of God for many years where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School class. She also volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Teresa Amsley-Mentzer (husband Terry) of Chambersburg, PA, Brenda Amsley Mellott (husband Herm) of Hagerstown, MD, and Wanita Amsley Shoemaker (husband Randy) of Chambersburg, PA; five cherished grandchildren: Kimeka Jewell (Steve), Asohnn Anglin, Brittany Strait (Jess), Ben Mellott (Kelli), Chuck Mellott (Lindsay). Her legacy continues through her fourteen great-grandchildren: Brianna Anglin, Willow Amsley, Avery and Mason Jewell, Winter Starliper; Adair Mellott; Julia, Aliza, Kent, Claire, and Quinn Stough; Nolan, Luka, and Goldie Strait. Additionally, she is survived by her siblings, Stella McCleary, Thelma Mellott (Cecil), Darlene Ramsey, Judy Kagarise (Dave Helsel) and Melvin Ramsey (Revonda), and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Amsley, on January 30, 2011, her beloved first grandchild, Shalynn Stough (surviving husband, Bryan) on September 15, 2023, and sisters, Miriam Kelly, Margaret Reeder and brothers, Donald Ramsey and Reuben Ramsey.
Funeral services and interment will be private. Susan was a proud graduate of Hamden High School in Hamden, CT. Susan led a fulfilling life as a dedicated secretary for many years, bringing her kind and compassionate nature to all she encountered. Susan will be fondly remembered for her love of spending time with family. She cherished the moments shared with her loved ones and had a special bond with her great-grand dog, Teddy. In her free time, Susan found solace in the simple joys of reading and being around animals. These hobbies brought her immense joy and fulfillment throughout her life.
Susan is survived by her loving daughters Sandra Ahlswede (husband Karl) of Cogan Station, PA, and Joanne Frick (Dan Daubert) of Waynesboro, PA. She is also survived by her granddaughter Jessica Daubert of Waynesboro, PA, and her brother Richard Fowler of VA. She was preceded in death by her beloved father John W. Shimeld, mother Fay K. Obituary Preview: John Harvey Hoffman, 82, of Chambersburg, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at his home. Born June 28, 1941 in Lykens, PA, he was the son of the late Harvey Henry Hoffman and Ruth Naomi Reese Hoffman.
John was a 1959 graduate of the former John Harris High School in Harrisburg, PA. He was employed as a police officer with the City of Harrisburg and Lower Paxton Township. After his service in the police department, John was employed in the HR department with United Telephone Eastern Group, the Chambersburg Hospital, and finally the Shook Home in Chambersburg. He later worked part-time for the Chambersburg Area School District in the Custodial Department. John was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. He had served as president of the Chambersburg Kiwanis Club, and was a 3rd Degree member of the McSherrystown Knights of Columbus Council 2551, and a 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus Assembly 924 in Chambersburg. John enjoyed target shooting, fishing and was known for telling great stories. He was also very proud of his family and enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judith M. Hamilton Hoffman, whom he married on April 23, 1965; three children, Heather Ann Hall (husband Gregory) of Carlisle, Jody Lee Smith (husband George) of Camp Hill, and Christopher J. Hoffman (wife Lori) of Hanover; seven grandchildren, Cameron W. Smith, Paxton J. Smith, Chelsea V. Becker (husband Chad), Christopher J. Hoffman II, Chase W. Hoffman, Joseph C. Hall (fiancée Julia), and Elizabeth A. Hall (fiancé, Bertalan Papp); three great grandchildren, Landon D. Becker, Logan T. Becker, and Sebastian J. Smith; one sister, Wilma Paul (husband Lawrence) of Columbus, OH; and several nieces and nephews. Aside from his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara R. Blausch.

James Carroll Wright - April 26, 1949 - April 20, 2024

Obituary Preview: James C. Wright, 74, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Doey’s House, Hagerstown, MD. Born April 26, 1949 in Clarksburg, WV he was the son of the late Grover Paul and Elizabeth (Dinnin) Wright.
He was a graduate of Elkins High School, Class of 1967. Jim attended Marshall University and joined the Army ROTC, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science and Distinguished Military honors in 1971. He entered active duty as an Infantry Officer and completed Airborne. He earned his Master’s of Science in Industrial Engineering from West Virginia University in 1981, was a member of Alpha Pi Mu (National Industrial Engineering Honor Society), and was inducted into Sigma Xi (Scientific Research Society of North America). In 1986 he graduated from the Command and General Staff College and was a lifelong member of the Military Officers Association of America. Over his military career his specialties included Operations, Research and Systems Analysis, Artificial Intelligence and Joint Specialty Officer. His distinguished military career was highlighted through receipt of the Legion of Merit, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, and the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star to name a few. He retired from the Army after 20 years as a Major out of the Pentagon, then continued to serve in the defense of the US through his professional career. He joined the John Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab (JHU APL) staff where his research and contributions earned him recognition as a Senior Staff Professional.
Jim’s dedication to service did not end with retirement. He was a cherished member of First United Methodist Church of Chambersburg and volunteered as a Pennsylvania Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA). His hobbies included trains, woodworking, and the outdoors which he took every opportunity he had to share with friends and family.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Bernadine (Duckworth) Wright who he married May 10, 1969; two sons, James Corey Wright (Becky Lynn) of Gibsonia, PA and Matthew Scott Wright (Stephanie Daniels) of Linden, VA; four grandchildren, Citrus, Wesley, Tristan, and Drayk; a sister, Susan Wineke of Salsbury, PA; brother-in-law, Lou Duckworth of Chambersburg; sister-in-law Mary Bowers of Kearneysville, WV; and mother-in-law, Carmelina Duckworth of Martinsburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, David Grover Wright and Eugene Paul Wright.
Jim’s memorial service will be on May 11th at 10:00 AM in First United Methodist Church of Chambersburg 225 S. 2nd Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201 with Rev. Steve Livermore officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church. Service will also be followed by a Celebration of Life. Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg. As one of Jim's final wishes, burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Obituary Preview: William “Bill” Peerce, 87, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born May 26, 1936 in Colmar Manor, MD he was the son of the late William A. and Edith (Irving) Peerce.
He was a graduate of Bladensburg High School with the Class of 1954. Following that Bill served with the United States Army from 1957 until his honorable discharge in 1963. He was employed as a truck driver for Safeway Stores, Inc. He retired in 1997 after 38 years with the company. Bill was a member of First United Methodist Church of Chambersburg as well as a former member of the Moose Club, Chambersburg. He and his wife were also members of the Escapee RV Club, traveling all over the United States together. Bill was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and bird watching.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 48 years, Thelma (Neal) Peerce who he married June 18, 1977; seven children, Dawn Schaefer of Chambersburg, Wanda Worrell of Mercersburg, PA, Vickie Harmon of Shady Side, MD, Pady Peerce-Short of Oxford, MD, L. Dean Murray of Long Island, NY, Ellie Peerce of Independence, KY, and Terri Peerce of Roanoke, VA; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and a number of nieces and nephews. Bill was the last of his immediate family.

Obituary Preview: Joseph D. Beckner, Jr. 82, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2024 in his home. Born April 17, 1942 in Chambersburg he was the son of the late Joseph D. Beckner, Sr. and Janet L. (Kell) Beckner.
He was a graduate of the Scotland School for Veterans’ Children with the Class of 1961. Following that Joe served with the United States Air Force from July 18, 1961 until his honorable discharge July 16, 1965. He was employed in electronics at Letterkenny Army Depot where he worked on the Patriot and Hawk Missile Systems as well as working on radar for the missiles. After retiring from Letterkenny he went back to work for a private contractor on the depot. Joe enjoyed golfing, traveling with his wife, and spending time with family and friends visiting and telling stories. He was a talented and artistic man who liked crewel embroidery, plastic canvas art, and woodworking in his younger years, even building the house he raised his children in.
He is survived by four children, Jo-Ann “Candy” Delaney (Matt) of Hummelstown, PA, Joseph Kozlowski, Jr. (Amy) of Harrisburg, PA, Joseph Beckner, III (Crystal) of Waynesboro, and Audra Green (Thomas, Jr.)of Chambersburg; nine grandchildren, Alex Delaney (Evie), Chase Kozlowski (Brina), Sarah Hayden (Michael), Katherine Smith (Andrew), Jacob Beckner, Natalie Beckner, Laura Wallace (A.J.), Denise Brown (Dustin) and Garet Green; five great grandchildren, Aleigh, Aria, Kandon, Daimen, and Harper; and five siblings, Suzanne Pinsky of St. Thomas, PA, Betsy Hendricks (Robert) of Chambersburg, Robert Beckner (Kathy) of Cottonwood, AZ, Charles Green (Jackie) of Orrstown, PA, and Judy Peters (Bill) of Oklahoma; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and Duane Thomas (Cona) who was like a son to Joe. Obituary Preview: Carol Janet (Dunnavant) Rohr, 82 went home to meet her savior, Lord Jesus Christ, on Monday, April 15, 2024, in Chambersburg, PA at Menno Haven’s Rehabilitation Center. Born on the Berry homestead in Farmville, VA on November 8, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Lillian Berry Dunnavant and Ellis Courtney Dunnavant.
Carol graduated from the University of Maryland. She later worked for the Montgomery County Public School system in Maryland, where she met Phil. Carol and Phil were both avid golfers. They sponsored many golf tournaments while living in Penn National. Carol was an active member in the Central Presbyterian Church in Chambersburg. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas. She had a large collection of antique ornaments and special wooden ornaments that were made by dear family and friends. Carol loved the game of golf, Mah-jongg, home decorating, baking apple pies, making her favorite deviled-eggs and enjoying Diana’s wonderful home-made fudge at Christmas time. Carol maintained a collection of everything related to swans. When she and Phil lived in Land Fall in Wilmington, N.C. a local magazine wrote an article about her and her collection.
She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 52 years, Dr. Harry Philip Rohr. Other surviving family members include: Diana Richardson (Dean) of New Windsor, MD, Steve Church (Sandra) of Midlothian, VA, daughter-in-law, Ellen Hottinger of Silver Spring, MD and her beloved Havanese dog, Courtney. In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her loving son, William “Billy” Ellis Hottinger. She had so many wonderful friends and was the shining light when she stepped into a room. Carol was a strong woman and accomplished so much in her lifetime. That shining light has now dimmed and her family is so blessed to have had her in their lives. May she rest in peace and watch over us all, as we try to continue our journey’s without our beloved Carol in our presence.

Mary Elizabeth Baer - May 10, 1920 - April 13, 2024

Obituary Preview: Mary Elizabeth (Martin) Baer, age 103, passed from this life on Saturday, April 13, at the Brookview Health Care Center to join her loving husband and many friends to spend eternity in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mary was born on May 10, 1920 as the middle daughter to Jacob and Minnie Martin. She grew up and went to school near Orrstown Pa. She worked as a young lady in Shippensburg until she met and married the love of her life, Leonard Baer, and move to his home town in Maugansville, Md. They then moved to a farm near Marion, Pa. where they raised their family. She and her husband moved to Chambersburg in 1964 and spent the rest of her life in homes in Chambersburg. Mary and her husband made many friends everywhere she went. They were very instrumental in starting the Cedar Street Mennonite Church in the 1950's where she remained a member until her death. Their home was always open to anyone needing a listening ear, meal, or help during a difficult time. Mary hosted numerous young ladies who came to Chambersburg to attend the LPN training program in the 60's and 70's. When her family was grown Mary became employed in the early years of Menno Haven, first as Matron and hospitality "queen" and then went on to obtain her degree as a certified dietitian and was dietary supervisor until her retirement in 1985.
Mary was well known for her fine needlework and quilting. She made many fine quilts for her family as well as benefit auctions for Menno Haven and Shalom Christian Academy. She quilted dozens of quilts for the Amish quilt shops in Lancaster County. Her hands were never still and her creative talents were always on display. When her beloved husband died in 1994 Mary bravely carried on and lived her life to the fullest.
She is survived by three children, Charlotte Martin, Darrell Baer (wife Sharon), and Lynette Miller (husband Dennis); nine grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Thelma Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Aside from her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by four siblings, Paul C. Martin, Luella Shank, Martha Witmer, and David H. Martin; and her son-in-law, Harold Martin. She held a special place in her family for Richard and Judy Shank and the late Betty Martin.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Marion Mennonite Church, 4365 Molly Pitcher Highway, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Mike Shank and Rev. Isaac Burkholder will officiate. Interment will be in Marion Mennonite Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday evening at the Thomas L. Sarah was a 1972 graduate of Manheim Central High School. She later attended Shippensburg University. After college she enjoyed traveling and made a life for herself in New York City where she was an Accountant for many years. After having her Daughter she retired in Chambersburg and devoted her life to her late Mother and Daughter. She served on the PTO in Chambersburg and was elected to the CASD School Board in 2019. She was a donor to several local nonprofit organizations and was passionate about spreading love to all people. Later in life she enjoyed spending time with her Granddaughter and her dog, Laila and reconnecting with old friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Monet Brooks of Altoona; granddaughter, Riley Sluzynski of Altoona; and her cousin, Jack Handshaw of Fairfield; and many close friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 19, 2024 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Dr. A. Sandra Kay Kaiser - February 17, 1950 - April 13, 2024

Obituary Preview: On Saturday, April 13, 2024, Sandy K. (Byers) Kaiser, 74, accepted God’s invitation to enter through the gates of Heaven with joy in her heart and peace for her body. Her 20-year-battle with cancer was finally over.
Sandy was born on February 17,1950, to the late Raymond H. Byers and Gloria L. (Custer) Byers. She grew up in the Shepherdstown, WV area, attending Shepherdstown Elementary and Shepherdstown High Schools, and graduated from Shepherd College in 1972 with a degree in English Education. She attributed her interest in English and teaching to her own high school English teachers: J. Grissinger, R. Shaffer, A. Calvin, and G. Hartzell. Her own teaching career took her to Loudoun County, VA (7 y); Jefferson County, WV (1 y); and to the Waynesboro Area School District, PA (25 y). She retired in 2005.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Clifford G. Kaiser, whom she met on an arranged blind date for New Years Eve 1971. They married on August 20, 1977. A memorable time in their married lives together was a month-long driving/camping adventure to Alaska to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. They were best friends, as well as partners.
Additional survivors are daughters: Amanda(Chuck), Fayetteville and Emily, York Springs; brother, Mike H. Byers (Leslie) in TN.; grandchildren Andrea & Andrew in York Springs, and Ashley & Audrey in Kentucky; Siblings-in-law: Richard Kaiser (Linda), Trudy Stoner(John), Joyce Rowe(Rodney), Luann Custer (Bill); and a very special aunt, Kate Berkstresser, (Fulton County, PA).
Additionally, a number of cousins in WV, MD, and PA as well as nieces & nephews: Ronnie, Marc, Diana, Michelle, Becky, Kathy, Rick, Ben, Rich, Wesley, Mary, Matthew, Jonathan; and many friends acquired over years of teaching together; high school friends aka “The Golden Girls”; the card ladies and friends from her church family at New Guilford BIC Church in Fayetteville.
Sandy’s interests over the years included a variety of crafts of many kinds, photography, car rides, puzzles, collecting Santa Clauses, working w/MOPS group at church, and caring for her dear grandchildren as they grew up. She enjoyed being around others and loved to laugh and kid around…puns were her specialty.
Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 7 – 9 PM and on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 10 AM – 12 PM at the Thomas Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. In addition to his mother, Terry is survived by his long-time companion, Lisa (Wright) Marszalek; Lisa’s children, Quinn and Nathan Mills; and Quinn’s daughter, Marilyn Mitchell. He is also survived an uncle, Dennis Myers (wife Sally); three cousins, Joel Myers, Aaron Myers (wife Megan), and Kristy Miller (husband Charles); and his cat, Marty. Aside from his father, Terry was preceded in death by his brother Phillip L. Martin in 1984.

Betty S. Meyers - January 19, 1931 - April 10, 2024

Obituary Preview: Betty Louise (Sollenberger) Meyers, born in 1931 to Reubin C. and Erma P. Sollenberger of Chambersburg, Pa., passed away at home on April 10, 2024, at age 93.
She graduated from the Chambersburg High School in 1948 and worked in the principal’s office until 1951. She then became a homemaker to raise her six children.
While still raising her children, she worked in local nursing homes over a period of six years. Most recently, she worked at the Chambersburg Hospital for four years in the admissions department and 15 years in the billing department. She retired from the hospital in 1993 at age 62.
An active member of the Chambersburg Bible Church, she taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir, and played piano and organ. She also assisted with Children’s Bible Ministries released time classes in Chambersburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Raymond Robert Meyers. She is survived by her brother, Samuel K. Sollenberger of Belton, TX., and six children: Sharon Louise Cool (Dennis) of Raleigh, N.C.; Linda Lou Olson (John) of Mercersburg, Pa.; Debra Kaye Guyer (Art) of Chambersburg; Mary Sue Horst (Melvin) of Chambersburg; Barbara Ann Kyler (Tim) of Mercersburg; and Timothy Brian Meyers of Mercersburg. She also is survived by 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 15, at 10 a.m., at Chambersburg Bible Church, 810 Orchard Drive, Chambersburg, PA. Dr. George L. Rundle will officiate. Holly Springs; seven grandchildren, Colton Umbrell (wife Kelsey), Jessica Torres-Gonder, Tyler Appleby (Michelle Motichka), Trevor Appleby (wife Morgan), Colby Perry (wife Cheyenne), Tucker Woodring, and Kye Taylor; 13 great grandchildren; and one sister, Darnell Foreman of Chambersburg. Aside from her parents, Darlene was preceded in death by two great grandchildren, Brantley Appleby and Millie Appleby.

For a period of time following college, he worked for Applied Technology Labs in Silver Spring, MD, before honorably serving in the US Navy. Following his service, he earned his Master’s degree in Engineering from Duke University in Durham, NC. He continued his career working for Westinghouse Defense and Electronic Systems Center in Linthicum and Hunt Valley, MD. George was also an avid reader and even had his own personal library at his residence. He was also a collector of antique instruments.
George is survived by his wife of 40 years, Shirley Stevenson Wend; two sons, David Wend of ME and Douglas Wend of NC; one granddaughter, Savannah Wend; sister, Dorthea Rose of CA and Nadia Vogel of NY; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin sister, Gertrude Wend; and step-siblings David and Jared Wend and Kaye Miller.

Born August 23, 1934 in Benevola, MD, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur W. Baker and Mary Roxanna Stine Baker.
She was a graduate of Boonsboro High School and the Washington Co. Hospital School of Nursing. She earned both a Bachelor's and Master’s degrees from Shippensburg University. Additional courses were taken at Hagerstown Junior College, University of MD and Penn State.
She was employed as an instructor for the Wash Co. Hospital School of Nursing and the practical nurse program in Chambersburg before becoming its administrator and financial aid officer. After retiring she continued to teach in the continuing education program for Penn State. She also volunteered with the NARFE/ apprise program sponsored by the Office of Aging and NARFE (National Assoc. of Retired Federal Employees), and the Chambersburg Hospital Auxiliary and the advisory committee for the Office of Aging.
She served as advisor to the Practical Nurse Assoc. of PA and the Franklin Co Career Center Practical Nurse Program Alumnae Association. She was a member of the National League for Nursing and the PA League for Nursing, the American Nurse's Assoc., the PA Nurses Assoc. and the Adams, Franklin, Fulton District Nurses Assoc. where she served in various capacities. A life member of the PA Vocational Assoc. she served as the Vice President for Health Occupations for many years. She served for a number of years as a board member of the Franklin Co Community Form, a member of the Health Care Administrator's Council, and as President of the Practical Nurse Administrator's Council. She served as treasurer and secretary of the Women's Democratic Club of Franklin Co. and secretary of the Franklin Co Democratic Comm. She was an associate member of the National Assoc. of Retired Federal Employees, a member of the Kittoctinny Historical Society, AARP chapter 3261, the Chambersburg Hospital Auxiliary and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She served as Legislative Co Chairman for the Franklin Co Branch of PA State Ed Assoc. of School Retirees. She was also 2nd Vice President and Program Chair and Legislative Chair of Franklin Co branch of PASR.
She married William D. Butts of Shippensburg, PA April 13, 1960. Surviving are 3 sisters, Shirley Happ and Betty Lou Kunz of Frederick, MD and Mary Sue Hamilton of Hagerstown, MD, 2 brothers, Gary E. Baker of Sharpsburg, MD, and Larry D. Baker of Keedysville, MD and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Stouffer Barrett, and Loretta Stotelmyer; three brothers: Willis C. Baker, David L. Baker, Franklin J. Baker.
A memorial service for Bill and Mary will be held in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home 333 Falling Spring Road, on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 2 PM, with Rev. Dr. A. Robert Cook officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg. Obituary Preview: Mary M. Norcross, 93, a resident of Transitions Health Care Shook Home, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. Born October 10, 1930, in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Robert C. Miller and Mildred C. Snyder Miller, and widow to the late Ray E. Norcross, who passed away on January 30, 1976.
A 1949 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, Mary soon thereafter entered the food services industry. She began as the first cook of the local Meals on Wheels program, where she was employed for 5 years. She was then a cook for the SSVC for 5 years, and lastly worked 19 years as a cook for the Shook Home, before retiring in 1997. Following her retirement, she enjoyed babysitting.
A 60 plus year member of Central Presbyterian Church in Chambersburg, she dedicated numerous hours of her time and gifts to the church. She taught Sunday School classes, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, was on the board of sessions and trustees, and sang in the church choir. She utilized her talents in the kitchen, cooking many meals for the church over the years as a member of the funeral committee and the delicious sauerkraut supper. Although she was a talented baker, making many cookies, fudge, and cakes; her specialty was baked beans. Mary and her sisters would always consider local shut-ins, doing favors for them during the Christmas season. She loved the Central Presbyterian church basketball games, rarely missing any of her son’s games over the years. She also coached the churches girls’ basketball team to the league championship. In her free time she also liked to play the slots. Mary’s greatest joys in life were in loving and caring for her husband, children, family, friends, and the lord.
Mary is survived by her children, Judy Szankovics of Allentown, PA, Michael Norcross (Debra) of Linglestown, PA, Kimberly S. Brown (Terry), of Chambersburg, PA, and Timothy Norcross (Debra) of Forest Hill, MD; daughter in law, Joan Norcross of Chambersburg; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her son, Albert “Cork” Norcross; four brothers; and four sisters.
