Betty Wiles - Unknown - April 28, 2024

Departed: 04/28/2024 (Anderson)
Obituary Preview: (Betty Wiles) Betty Jean Madden Wiles, 83, wife of Robert L. Wiles, of the Flat Rock Community of Starr, S.C., passed away Sunday, April 28, 2024, at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.
Born in Anderson, on July 27, 1940, she was a daughter of the late T.C. “Pete” Madden Sr., and the late Bertha Jane Shaw Madden.
Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Anyone who knew her also knew how much she loved her family. To her family and friends who knew her best, she was known simply as “Grandmother.” This was a title she cherished deeply for decades.
Having lived humbly as the child of sharecroppers with many older brothers and sisters, Grandmother knew about the importance of family, turning a little into a lot, and God’s endless provision. She carried these lessons with her throughout her life, raising and caring for her family and home and serving the Lord. Her family will forever hold onto memories of snapping beans, cutting corn, and breaking bread with her at the kitchen table. Her unforgettable laugh could brighten any day, and her sharp sense of humor and ability to tell a great story kept us entertained for hours on end. A talented cook, she fed family and friends countless meals through the years. She made sure everyone had plenty, and no one went without in her home.
As the years passed, her steps became smaller and more cautious, but she remained determined to make it to the many ball games, graduations, weddings, baby dedications, recitals, and birthday parties for all of us, traveling hundreds of miles at a time if necessary. Grandmother always wanted to be there for her children, grandchildren, great, and great-great-grandchildren who she had held, rocked, cared for, and loved endlessly. Even as her health faded, the joy that her many children brought to her heart could be clearly seen in her bright smile, and illness could not overcome her love.
Grandmother leaves behind a beautiful legacy of family, love, laughter, and precious memories that will always live on in our hearts and minds. But, greater than this, she left us with the blessed assurance that after drawing her final breath, she saw the face of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Iva, and never lost hope that one day she would be perfectly and eternally healed as she is today. She is now rejoicing and praising God, reunited with loved ones who have gone on before her.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Robert L. Wiles, her six children, Johnny Wiles, Becky Wiles Hall (Wayne), Carole Wiles Brown (Donnie), Curtis Wiles (Rose), Andrew Wiles (Michele), and Anna Wiles Moore (Scott), her 12 grandchildren, Michelle Wiles, Tara Wiles, Clay Wiles (Amber), Julie Hall Stone (Gary), John Michael Hall (Michelle), Jordan Hall (Amber), Chase Brown (Brooke), Tanner Brown (Andrea), Katy Wiles Boggs (Rev. Andy Boggs), Sarah Rose Wiles Cleveland (Kylan), Jessi Wiles, and Lilly Clair Moore, as well as 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sister, Jenny Madden Smith.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Sally Madden Moon, Thomas Madden, Frances Madden Moon, Judson Madden, Laura Madden Lyon, Margaret Madden Nubern Welborn, Sue Madden Snipes Ribet, and T.C. Madden Jr.

Why are obituaries important?
