Deacon Robert Lee Hill - May 01, 1944 - November 25, 2022

Departed: 11/25/2022 (South Gate)
Obituary Preview: Deacon Robert Lee Hill
Robert Lee Hill was born May 1, 1944, as the third child of John and Martha Hill in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  John Hill Jr. was the oldest, followed by Thelma, while Timothy Hill the youngest was 22 years between Robert. Martha becoming pregnant later in life from John and John declared Timothy as their miracle child.
Robert was extremely intellectually gifted and was the Valedictorian at Howard High School in Chattanooga. Robert’s parents wanted to send him to college, but Robert did not want to burden them financially. Alternatively, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during 1962. Robert served in the Air Force for over 26 years, gaining expertise in the field of environmental, industrial safety, and building codes while earning an Engineering Degree, closing his career as Superintendent of ground safety.
During his U.S. Air Force career, he met Claudine Criss and they married in Fort Worth, Texas. They raised five children, Darryl, Stephen, Anthony, Kimberly, and Carlos, and traveled the world living in the Philippines, Turkey, and Hawaii. Robert has a sixth child, Sharika with Tina Allen. According to Claudine, Sharika is a blessing and is the near identical image of Martha Hill, Robert’s mother. Robert Nathan joined the family a year afterward.
Robert was a member of the Air Force Choir, the Masons, and had a passion for helping others, as often he would cut his neighbors’ yards or shovel the snow from the neighbor’s driveway with his sons as a mere surprise and acts of goodwill.  Robert was an avid dominos player, loved board and card games, enjoyed the family feud, and could not resist viewing classic black and white western cowboy television programs. His favorite was Maverick.  Also, he had a love for ice cream. Butter Pecan was his preferred choice.
While in the Air Force, Robert and Charles Gilbert became very close friends and proclaimed themselves as brothers.  After his Air Force career, Robert and Claudine moved to Los Angeles, California and Robert served in the roles of CEO and Executive Management within the environmental sciences sector and founded Focus Construction Company.
As a philanthropist he founded the “Friends of Willow Brook Senior Center” and served as the President with a mission focused on feeding the homeless, and people with food insecurities in Los Angeles where Robert would prepare and deliver the food himself.
During 1990 Robert became a member of the Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. W.  Jerome Fisher, in Compton California, where as the church now moves forward as Greater Zion Church Family under the leadership of Dr. Michael J.T. Fisher, the son of Dr. Jerome Fisher.
As part of the ministries at Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Robert often cooked as a helper in the kitchen, served as a Deacon, and sang in the Choir as a second tenor. He loved the church, its ministries and Deacons with a special close relationship with Deacon Cooper and Deacon Irvin as his domino partners. During 2020, Deacon Robert became a member of the Holy Chapel Missonary Baptist Church, in Compton, California serving in the brotherhood of Deacons, under the spiritual guidance and leadership of Pastor George Thomas.
Deacon Hill’s legacy endures, through son’s Darryl, Stephen, Anthony, Carlos, Robert Nathan, and daughters Kimberly and Sharika.
