Obituary Preview: Larry (Oz) Osberg died May 16, 2024, suddenly, at his home in Lincoln, NE. Larry was born December 5, 1944 in St. Edward, NE to Erland and Anne Osberg. Larry spent most of his life in the Lincoln and Seward areas. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1963. He started working construction in 1963, retiring in 2020. During his 57 years working construction he worked for Dobson Brothers, Frieden, and Hansen Construction (for 40 years with friend Dennis). Heavy machinery was his passion and he could drive any piece of equipment. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. In the summertime, for many years, you could find him at the race track helping his friend, Lyle, with his sprint car.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Wayne and Irene Rohde, and brother Jerry Vandenburg. He is survived by his wife, Diane (59 yrs 10 months), Daughters: Charlotte (Michael) Brotherson and Jackie (Bob) Tindle. Grandchildren: Kayla (Ross) Jenkins, Devon Tindle, Carly (Will) Tietmeyer, and Malena Brotherson (fiance Patrick Jones). Great Granddaughter Amica Jenkins. Brothers: Ron Osberg, Mike (Susanne) Osberg, and sister-in-law Orriel Vandenburg, and special family Lorrinda Osberg. In laws: Nancy and Darryl Kempf and Randy and Lora Rohde. Many nieces and nephews.
He is being cremated. Larry wanted no funeral, so a celebration of life (party) will be Saturday, July 6th at the Tindles, 1091 NW 112th Lincoln, NE from 1-4 p.m.

Connie was born on August 25, 1958 to Virginia Holcomb and Fred Powell in Muskogee, OK. Connie was a longtime employee for the Bunn-o-Matic Corporation in Springfield, IL. She was married to her first husband, Gerald, for 42 years before his passing in 2020. They went on to have three children, Melissa, Adam, and Andrew. In July 2023, Connie married her second husband, Troy Franks.
Connie was predeceased by her first husband, Gerald, and her daughter, Melissa. She is survived by her second husband, Troy Franks, and her sons Adam (wife Hope) Silva and Andrew (wife Rebecca) Silva, and her grandchildren, Melissa, Anderson, Thatcher, Adler, Ada, and Adelyn.

Obituary Preview: Krista (Bradley) Kester passed away on the evening of April 15th, 2024 at The Monarch in Lincoln, NE, surrounded by her loving family.
Krista was born on January 5, 1955 in Neligh, Nebraska, to John William and Donna Lee (Mettling) Bradley. She finished her senior year of high school while also attending her first year of college at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, returning to Nebraska to graduate from Neligh High School in 1973. Krista continued on to graduate with High Distinction from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1976, later returning to the University of Nebraska College of Law where she earned her Juris Doctor with High Distinction in 1990. In 1990 Krista also served on the Executive Board of the Nebraska Law Review as one of their Executive Editors.
Krista was an attorney at Woods Aitken Law Firm in Lincoln, NE. She joined the firm in 2000 and became a partner in 2004, remaining at Woods Aitken until she retired at the end of 2012. Prior to entering private practice, Krista served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Warren K. Urbom, United States District Court for the District of Nebraska, and as an adjunct professor at the University of Nebraska College of Law. In addition, Krista served on the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects from 2008 through 2018 where she served as Board Secretary and Vice-Chair, and was appointed by Governor Heineman as Chair of the Board for two terms. Krista was also a charter member and past president of the Eighth Circuit Bar Association.
Krista married her high-school sweetheart, Kerry, in 1974, and their family expanded over the ensuing years to include three wonderful sons. Kerry and Krista settled and remained in Lincoln until 2005 when they moved to a small farm in rural Otoe County, where Krista re-ignited her lifelong passion for equestrian adventures, ultimately joining the American Endurance Ride Conference in 2013, and logging over 2,500 competitive miles with "Chigger," her favorite Arabian. Krista and Chigger’s last ride was March 16, 2024, where they placed 3rd in the competition.
Krista was also a competitive local runner in the 1980’s, and was working towards the St. Louis Marathon in 1985 when she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. Despite the diagnosis, she remained incredibly active, eventually discovering a new outlet in coaching youth soccer. From 1990-2021 Krista coached for Capital Soccer Association (CSA), and later Sporting Nebraska, FC, serving a number of terms on the board for CSA before their merger with Sporting in 2021. Over the course of her 30+ years of coaching, Krista mentored hundreds of players, ultimately becoming known as "Coach Grandma" during her last 5 years on the sidelines.
Krista's greatest legacy was her family, and their passionate and active work within local churches. She leaves a family anchored in faith and confident in the redemptive power of their Creator.
Krista is preceded in death by her parents, John William and Donna Lee (Mettling) Bradley, and brother, John Bradley.
Krista is survived by her husband, Kerry Kester; sons Bradley (April) Kester of Adams, NE, Jeremy (Brenda) Kester and Aaron (Vanessa) Kester of Lincoln, NE; her nine amazing grandchildren; and, her sister, Rachelle Bradley of Omaha, NE.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 11:00 am at Capitol City Christian Church (located at 7800 Holdrege Street) in Lincoln, Nebraska. A light luncheon will follow the service. Flowers may be sent to the church the day prior to the funeral (all deliveries are to be brought into the church via the Northeast entrance).

Jerry Alfred Hoppes - August 11, 1928 - April 13, 2024

Obituary Preview: Journey complete, he is home now. Jerry Alfred Hoppes was born August 11,1928 in Burwell, Nebraska to Alfred Hoppes and Sylvia (Partridge) Hoppes. In 1931 he moved with his family to a dry-land farm near Tuthill, South Dakota. When the farm failed during the dust bowl period, the family relocated to Martin, SD.
In 1942 Jerry found himself living in Hot Springs, SD while his parents sought employment at the new Black Hills Ordnance Depot near Provo, SD. In 1943 he began his Provo High School experience, graduating in 1947. Part of that experience was meeting his future wife who had graduated in 1946. Elizabeth Culver and Jerry Hoppes were married in Sep 1947. Jerry would mention often that the only thing he ever really wanted in life was to be married to Elizabeth.

Jay was an avid reader, history novice, artist, car enthusiast (Ford), and all-around “tinkerer”. His family would describe him as a “walking encyclopedia” whose intelligence was beyond above-average. He enjoyed western movies, war movies, and any and all things history. Jay was someone who would give the shirt off his back or the last dollar in his pocket if someone
needed it. And when he made friendships, they were for a lifetime. Basil is survived by his 2 daughters and their families eldest daughter Susie Roberts (Bob) Lincoln, NE their children Nicole Kinnarnan (Tony), Elizabeth Roberts, Chirstopher Roberts (Cassandra), yougest daughter Tracy Luepnitz (Mark) Mt. Obituary Preview: Kevin Craig Avey passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. He was 69 years old. Kevin was born to Marilyn and Gerald Avey in Carroll County, IA on January 11, 1955. His family moved to Lincoln, NE in 1960. Kevin went to Dawes Middle School where his passion for music began. He formed “Iron Horse” a garage band that performed at frat parties and proms. The band continued on through high school. Kevin graduated from Lincoln Northeast High in 1973. Kevin and some members from “Iron Horse” moved on to form the beginnings of “The Sandy Creek Pickers.” “The Sandy Creek Pickers,” a bluegrass and acoustic music band was formed in 1975. While performing a gig at Stan’s bar he met the love of his life, Debbie. After living together for four years, Kevin and Debbie married on June 9, 1979. They honeymooned in Minnesota where they fished and riced. They welcomed the first of their two children in 1986, a girl, Jennifer. A son, Timothy, followed two years later in 1988. Kevin’s love for music continued through the years. He passed on his knowledge to music students at Concordia University in Seward, NE, Southeast Community College in Lincoln, NE, and through private lessons in small music studios and out of the home. He expressed his love and musical talent in the genres of bluegrass, jazz, and folk with the bands “Shady Grove,” “String Demons,” “Jive Merchant,” and “Skylark.” Kevin’s joy in music was only surpassed by his love for family. He cheered on daughter, Jenny at soccer games from second grade through her college career. He and Debbie traveled from games in Lincoln, as far as Marshall, Minnesota several times to watch Jenny play in college. Kevin supported his son, Tim in hockey from the age of three, through his high school years. He spent countless hours driving between Lincoln and Omaha for practices, in addition to long road trips around the country almost every weekend for tournaments. He was second to none in displaying his dedication to his children. Grandbabies, Lynnley (2013) and Bennett (2016) quickly became the light of his life. Kevin treasured all the time spent with them, especially in the big blue chair. Books were read, music was created, laughs were had, and cuddles were shared in “grampy’s chair.” Kevin and Debbie even made trips to the Williamson's temporary home in Kansas City to spend time with the grandbabies. Following the move back to Lincoln, he attended all of their activities from sports to music recitals, encouraging and supporting them. Kevin was an avid sports enthusiast. He enjoyed watching University of Nebraska sports as well as the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. Additional hobbies included the outdoors and reading books. In his earlier years, he enjoyed camping and hiking in the mountains and trails, while later in life, he took an additional interest in landscaping. Kevin is predeceased by his parents Marilyn and Gerald Avey. Kevin is survived by loving wife, Debbie Avey; daughter, Jenny (Matt) Williamson; son, Tim Avey; granddaughter, Lynnley; grandson, Bennett; sister, Geri (Kevin) Waechter; brother, Steve (Susan) Avey; and nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Roca Ridge Events, 5265 Prairie Sage Dr, Roca, NE 68430, from 1:00-5:00 pm.

Proceeded in death by his Father Everett Way and his Mother Beverly Way. His Grandmother Bertha Higgins. His Sister-in Law Ann Marx and Mother-in Law Valerie Snow. Chuck honed his skills in welding most of his life and has a miniature water tower he built himself still standing in Falls City, Ne. He had 6 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews along with many family pets growing up. Loved his Harley Davidsons and Corvettes. He would even drive cross country to get one. Avid boxer after the Marines and was part of the golden gloves of Lincoln. Passed away 3/16/2024 in the loving arms of his family. He will be remembered and cherished for the rest of our lives.

Alice June Vandersteen - September 02, 1937 - February 20, 2024

Obituary Preview: Alice June Vandersteen, a lifelong educator and tireless advocate for teachers, passed away peacefully on February 20th at the age of 86. Alice was born on September 2nd, 1937 in Pittsburgh, PA to George and Kathryn Fitch. Alice was raised on the Southside of Chicago and lived her adolescent years in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She leaves behind a legacy of passion, dedication, and service to the field of education that will continue to inspire generations to come.
Alice's journey in education began with a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Michigan University, followed by a Master of Arts from Indiana University. Throughout her illustrious career, she touched the lives of countless students and colleagues as an elementary teacher in Marshall, Michigan, and later as a middle school math and Gifted and Talented teacher in Kalamazoo, Michigan and Bloomington, Indiana.
Alice lived her later years in Aurora, Illinois, Prescott, Arizona and Omaha, Nebraska, owning homes with her beloved dog, Gracie.
Alice's commitment to making a difference extended beyond the borders of her own country. She served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Okene, Nigeria from 1961 to 1963, where she dedicated herself to enhancing educational opportunities for children in underserved communities.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Alice was a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs, proudly holding season tickets for many years. She reveled in the camaraderie of fellow fans and cherished the memories made at Wrigley Field. She was a world traveler, visiting many countries with family and friends.
In addition to her passion for baseball and travel, Alice was an avid runner and coach of track and field. She found solace and strength on the open road, and her dedication to the sport inspired those around her to pursue their own fitness goals.
In addition to her teaching career, Alice was actively involved in various professional and community organizations. She served as a delegate to Jimmy Carter at the Democratic National Convention in 1976 and as President of the Monroe County Teachers Association in Bloomington, Indiana. Alice's impact on education extended to her role as a Uniserv Director and Director of Field Services for the Illinois Education Association, where she championed the rights and welfare of teachers across the state of Illinois.
Alice's greatest joy in life came from her family. She was married to Ray Vandersteen and the proud mother of two children: Paul Vandersteen (Charmaine) and Laura Bertsch (Robert). Alice cherished her role as a mother and grandmother and leaves behind a treasure trove of memories for her family to hold dear.
Alice will be deeply missed by her family, including her grandchildren Chelsie, Samantha (Nick), Annie (Andres), Zachary, Bridget, and Austin as well as her friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her passion for education, unwavering dedication to her students, and compassionate advocacy for teachers will continue to inspire and uplift countless lives.

Jeanne was born in Grand Island Nebraska June 19th 1948 to Robert D Clampitt and Jane (Brown) Clampitt.
Jeanne worked for many years at the State of Nebraska Labor Department. She was married to Charles "Buzz" Buswell June 17th of 1967. They eloped and were married in Colorado. They love traveling and have been to almost every state in the USA. Canoeing and camping with friends and family was a passion. Many canoe trips to the Quetico in Canada with Charles. In french Quetico means the quiet place.
Those left to cherish her memory are her three children Robert Buswell and daughters Christine (Buswell) Cook and Shari (Buswell) Pring all of Lincoln. Three grandchildren Brittany, Brandon and Sully along with three great-granddaughters Nevaeh, Avery and Ariah.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Charles Buswell, mother Jane Clampitt her father Robert Clampitt, her brother Allen Clampitt and James Clampitt and great-grandson Rudy Jr Requeho.

Obituary Preview: Jason A. Rudy, age 44 of Omaha, died January 31, 2024 in Omaha. He was born January 7, 1980 in Salina, Kansas and grew up in Dodge City, Kansas. Jason was a self-employed contractor who specialized in constructing residential housing. He was good with his hands and enjoyed working on cars and tinkering with just about everything, especially computers. When not working, Jason spent time fishing, drawing and listening to music. He was also an avid reader of many types of books, but principally mystery novels. A man with a big heart, Jason had a special love for his seven children and became a grandfather this past November. His children felt safe in his arms and it seemed that all their problems went away. His love for them was never ending no matter how much distance separated them. In addition to his children, Jason’s mom held a special place in his life, but he also cherished his role as a brother and uncle. He often clowned around, telling jokes and being funny. But when it was time to dress up, Jason gave special attention to every detail of his clothing and appearance and topped it all off with a fragrant cologne.

Obituary Preview: Dorothy Loraine (Kudrna) Beyke Dorothy Loraine (Kudrna) Beyke was born on April 29, 1929 in Cowles, Nebraska to Fred & Ruby (Potter) Kudrna. She was the second of seven children. She was the salutatorian of her graduating class at Cowles High School. She married the love of her life, Norbert John Beyke, on April 10, 1951 at St. Cecilia Church in Hastings, Nebraska. They started their life together in Hastings but Dorothy moved to Red Cloud during Norbert’s deployment. The first of their five children, Cecilia, was born in Red Cloud. After Norbert’s deployment ended, they returned to Hastings where Diana and Teresa were born. A job relocation moved the family to Albert Lea, Minnesota where Mark and Sandra were born but they ultimately moved back to Hastings. Dorothy was a wife, mother and homemaker all of her life, but also worked part-time at Allen’s Department Store when the family returned to Hastings. In 1981 Dorothy joined the staff at Central Community College in the Shipping and Receiving Department; retiring in 1993. Dorothy loved helping at the kids’ schools and was active in PTO. She was designated a lifetime PTA member at Morton Elementary School because of her commitment and dedication. Dorothy enjoyed traveling and the family spent many weekends and vacations relishing time together camping. After retirement, Dorothy and Norbert liked camping across the United States and spending time with family, often camping their way between children and grandchildren to enjoy life! She was happiest when surrounded by her family. Norbert and Dorothy moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to be closer to family in 2009 and loved being close enough to enjoy many of their grandchildren’s activities. In 2013, they moved into Gateway Vista where they remained until Norbert passed on September 16, 2019 and Dorothy passed on January 11, 2024. Dorothy loved visiting with people finding a common thread in life, and everyone was treated like family. Dorothy is survived by her five children: Cecilia Ristau, Diana (Brian) Osborne, Teresa Black, Mark Beyke and Sandra Beyke; 12 grandchildren: Lisa (Todd) Carlson, Kevin Ristau, Danae (Jon) Martin, Kristin (Ryan) Mauseth, Nick Osborne, Beth (Blake) Benton, Jenny (Joe) Damti, Zachary (Rachel) Black, Tessa (Paul) Schwering, Alexandra (Greg) Miller, Joshua Peters and Hannah (Seth) Lindokken; 27 great-grandchildren: Thunder, Justine, Madelyn, Noah, Madisyn, Morgan, Braydon, Connor, Evan, Jack, Benny, Abram, Anita, Katherine, Estelle, Emma, Dale, Emerson, Jude, Logan, Brooklynn, Holly, Joseph, Ellen, Nora, Peter and William and one great-great-granddaughter, Ellie; sister Darlene Brown; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Raymond (Judy) Beyke; Doris (Gordon) Cox and brother-in-law Bob Girmus; many nieces and nephews and too many friends to count. Obituary Preview: Dolores (Dodie) Smith passed away surrounded by family at her home on December 3rd, 2023. Delores was born in Morse Bluff, NE on August 1, 1927 to Edna & Harry Rohwer. Throughout her life Dolores had several job titles but all of them consisted of taking care of others. Along with being an accomplished member of the 4H club she also taught 4H for several years. She was always cleaning houses, baking, sewing and had owned a small cafe for a time, she was ready to help anyone in need.
Dodie married Donald Smith by eloping in Las Vegas in 1987 after a long courtship and although they did not have children of their own they raised and cared for many. Family and faith were the cornerstones in her life and nothing pleased her more than to have all her family under one roof.
She is survived by her sister Arlene Schuler and children Candy, Craig & Lori; nephew Larry (Anissa) Rohwer and son Draven; niece Jordin (Tyler) Vance and children Kallie, Serenity, Shyann & TJ and niece Dezerea Smith.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald; sisters Harriet, Donna, Judy and Patricia: brothers Clem, Norman, Larry and niece Naomi.

Robert Ford Callahan was born October 29, 1935 on his grandparents farm, in Duncan, Oklahoma. He chose in-home hospice care in February 2023, leaving this earth on February 8th. He battled a blood cancer for many years. The immediate family were all together, in the family home in Omaha. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Raymond Wesley and Helen Adams Callahan, and his brothers Roger Ray Callahan, and Charles Kent Callahan.
Iris Iolene Callahan passed unexpectedly on November 10, 2023 following a short illness and a subsequent heart surgery. Iolene was born December 21, 1939 on her family’s farm near Sterling, Oklahoma. She and Bob were married in 1956 in Sterling, Oklahoma. Bob and Iolene completed a very successful career where Bob worked for the United States Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons. Their career took them from Oklahoma to Northern Virginia (D.C.), Jackson Mississippi, back to Northern Virginia, Dallas Texas, Leavenworth Kansas, and Bastrop Texas. Iolene was also able to stay in the Family Home until her hospitalization. She is preceded in death by her parents Mart Guy Vaught and Iris Dee Wright Vaught, husband Robert F. Callahan, and brothers Delwin Vaught and John Wesley Vaught.
Bob and Iolene are survived by two sons Gregory Robert (Detra) Callahan and Ty Scott (Shelley) Callahan, grandchildren Kacey Layne (Sean) Callahan Unthank, Blakely Austin Callahan, Montgomery Cole Callahan, and Marshall Ford Callahan, great grandchildren Evey Nora Unthank and Ashton Miles Unthank, their beloved sister Dana Beth Callahan and sister-n-law Nancy Vaught and niece Jillian (Stephen) Vaught-Blair, along with Bob’s many cousins, and both of their many loving nieces and nephews, also special, lifelong friends Tommy and Rita Gilliam and Donny and Pauline Cobb, and dear friends Bill and Diane Dalius.
We will also plan an interment ceremony later in the Spring where you will be welcome at the Omaha National Cemetery. Date to be determined.
Flowers may be sent to Westside Church 15050 W. Dodge Road, Omaha, NE 68154 until an hour prior to the 10:30 service on November 27th. For those wishing to honor Bob and Iolene’s memory and service, please consider memorial gifts or honorariums made to the Open Door Mission of Omaha. Steve was born February 25, 1941, in Fontanelle Iowa to Earl and Shirley (Hanon) Tucker. Steve’s passions in life were his family, football (The Nebraska Cornhuskers and The Chicago Bears), caring for his beloved animals, gardening, fishing, hunting, watching golf and old westerns, and being a “Peepaw” to his grandchildren.
He retired from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as an Ag Tech where he worked for many years caring for many types of animals. His gardening skills were unmatched, and he took great pride and precision in growing the perfect vegetables. His best friend/son, John Jabs, was by his side during many of his shenanigans and life adventures during the last 40 years. Steve was known for his quick wit, one-liners, and his very strong opinion on things which made him even more endearing to those who loved him. Steve never met a “stranger” and to really know him was to love him.
Left to mourn his passing and cherish his memories are his wife of 38 years; Sharron Tucker (Rehm); thirteen children/step-children and their spouses; Teresa (Lee) Ryans, Brent (Dori) Tucker, Kellie Tucker, Doug (Mary) Tucker, Jay Milligan, Michelle (Toby) Ackerman, Marchelle Versaw, Shonda Farber, John (Melissa) Jabs, Shawn (Dana) Tucker, Shane Tucker, Shannon Tucker, Seth (Kelly) Tucker; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends who genuinely loved Steve.

Ralph was born in Lincoln, NE on July 7, 1944, the son of Ralph Richard Bauer, Sr., and Emma (Younker) Bauer. Ralph grew up in Lincoln, graduated from Lincoln High School in 1963, and joined the Army National Guard in 1964 - a year before he married Judith Ann Hevelone in 1965. Their marriage would last the next 58 years. While still in High School, Ralph began sorting mail with the railroad, and in 1965, he continued sorting mail, but now with the US Postal Service in what would become a nearly 44 year long career until his retirement in 2008.
Among his pursuits, Ralph had a passion for hard work and a love for music. His love for music included singing first tenor in choir as well as in a boys octet at Lincoln High School. He was known for his ever-competitive spirit - whether at work, at golf, or a game of cards, he was always competing to be the best. It was arguably hard to find someone as good at country music trivia than Ralph.
After experiencing a significant stroke in 2019, two types of cancer were identified resulting in a need for qualified long term skilled care at Hillcrest Firethorn. Ralph continued his very meaningful stay for 5 years at Hillcrest until his passing.
He is survived by his wife Judith Ann Bauer, three children and their spouses: Amy & Mathew Fudge, Erik & Alicia Bauer, and Melinda Kindall; 10 grandchildren, and sister, Carol Van Amerongen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Richard Bauer, Sr. and Emma (Younker) Bauer, and step-mother Rosie Bauer.

Obituary Preview: Lavonne (Bonnie) Sanders was reunited with her beloved husband and daughter in Heaven on September 27, 2023. She was born on January 10, 1930 to George and Dollie Phillips of Lyons. After graduation from Lyons High School in 1949, she worked in Omaha at Mutual of Omaha and modeled for several clothing stores. On November 8, 1950, she was united in marriage to Joyce Sanders. Three children, Kurt, Jacki and Joni were born to this union. They farmed for 50 years northwest of Oakland until retiring and moving to Wahoo in 2002. She was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church in Lyons. Her greatest joy was having her grandchildren for extended visits on the farm during the summer and weekends, spoiling them to the point of them not wanting to go home. After the passing of her husband in 2021, Bonnie moved to her daughter Joni’s farm north of Ceresco.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, daughter Jacki, her parents, and siblings: Shirley Phillips, Lill Buck, twins Robert Phillips and Roberta Hoagland, Barb Eden, and Gary Phillips. She is survived by her son Kurt (Sandy) Sanders of Fremont and daughter Joni (Paul) Pearson of Ceresco; grandchildren Kari Sanders of Lincoln, Kodi (Thom Klassen) Bonesteel of Lincoln, Taylor Sanders of Fremont, Madelyn Sanders of Omaha, Janae Pearson of Omaha; great-grandchildren Kade, Miya, Ella and Finn, all of Lincoln; sisters-in-law Roxann Phillips and Marlyce Rainey, both of Fremont. A memorial mass will be held at 11 am, September 29th at St. Michael’s Catholic Church located 1315 1st Ave. South Sioux City, NE 68776. Father Matt will preside. Visitation, with family members present, will be prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. at the church. A reception will follow the funeral at the St Michael’s Parish Center, immediately following the service, at approximately noon. Family and friends are welcome to attend either or both. A private burial will take place at Granville, IA at the St. Joseph Cemetery. Burial services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home and Monument of Remsen, IA.
Pat was born on November 5th 1935 in Jackson, NE to Jack Hungerford and Florence (Goergen) Hungerford. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1954 and married James Francis Steffes in 1955 at the Catholic Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City, IA. After her husband’s death in 1956, she devoted her life to raising her two daughters, Deb and Pam, in So Sioux City, Ne. During that time she owned and operated Peters Park Pantry in Morningside, Sioux City, IA and was known for her breakfasts that had people waiting in line on Sunday mornings. Later she became a Home Health Caretaker where she provided care for the elderly.
Pat moved to Lincoln, NE to be closer to her grandsons and great grandchildren. Later in life, Pat split her time living between AZ and NE with her two daughters. Her favorite pastimes were spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers (or in her words… her Husker Babies).
Survivors include her daughters Deb Steffes of Tucson, AZ; Pam (John) Fecht of Lincoln, NE; Grandsons, Bryan (Kastan) Fecht and Michael (Shalee) Fecht both of Lincoln, NE; Great Grandchildren Hayden Fecht, Elliott Fecht, and Ivy Fecht; Sisters Delores (LeRoy) Nelson of So Sioux City, Ne, Arlene Whitaker of Lansing, KS, Bill (Judy) Hungerford of Tucson, AZ; Dick Hungerford of So Sioux City, Ne.; and In-Laws Donna Hungerford of Omaha, NE, Carol Humes of Davenport, IA, Emmett (Shirley) Steffes of Omaha, NE, Patti Steffes of Granville, IA, and Dawn Steffes of Yankton, SD; And numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband James F Steffes, her parents Jack and Florence Hungerford; her sisters Mary Margaret Adams and Cleo Hungerford; brother Jack Hungerford; niece Robin Taylor; In-Laws Larry and Sally Steffes, sister-in-law Joan (John) Kaster, brothers-in-law Marvin Steffes and Darrell Steffes; and nephew Steve Steffes.

Obituary Preview: Terry Miller, 73 of Nebraska, passed away on August 28, 2023. Growing up, Terry loved all sports and played basketball throughout high school. Later in life after starting a family, Terry enjoyed camping, fishing, and running with his family and friends. Terry’s family will remember him as an extremely hardworking man with a brilliant mind. Throughout the 70’s and early 80’s, Terry worked as a horologist at the Jewel Box until he set his sights on his real passion, computers. Terry put himself through IT school to be a computer programmer. Through his passion and drive he quickly escalated up the ranks from programmer to the Director of the Midwest Region, at PKS. While working for PKS, Terry was able to travel the world (his favorite country to fly to and do business with was Ireland) meeting with other conglomerates to eliminate potential issues with Y2K. Terry enjoyed watching horse racing, Husker football and volleyball, and “Da Bears”!
Terry is survived by his sister, Corinne Miller, daughters, Sherry Miller, Merry Ingram and her husband Mark, Megan Kricsfeld and her husband Michael, as well as, former wife Karen Miller, eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Terry was preceded in death by his loving parents, Quentin and Arlene Miller, and sisters, Kathy Fannin and Linda Miller.
At Terry’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Instead, he asked that friends and loved ones visit “God’s Country” up in the mountains of Wyoming when they are able. Here you will find peace, tranquility, and Terry.
