Lois R. Phillips - June 10, 1928 - April 14, 2024

Departed: 04/14/2024 (Muncie)
Obituary Preview: Lois Mae Ries Phillips, 95, passed away Sunday afternoon, April 14, 2024 at Morrison Woods Health Campus.
She was born June 10, 1928 at Sivley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Edward Myles Ries and Frances Mae (Davis) Ries. She was raised in Mt. Ranier, MD and graduated from Mt. Ranier High School in 1945.
One of Lois’ early jobs was at the historic Old Post Office in Washington, D.C. As a young teen and throughout high school, she enjoyed taking the streetcar to downtown D.C. to go to the movies and watch multiple features, one after the other, while making a roll of Necco wafers last all afternoon. She and her lifelong friends, Anita Pillow and Virginia Stamper, would attend church and other activities such as roller skating at Riverside Stadium. There were three large skating rinks overlooking the Potomac River, for beginners to advanced skaters. The rink was later torn down to make way for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. She and her friends also enjoyed the USO dances for the servicemen. She loved the jitterbug, Big Band music, and the wholesome environment that was provided.
Lois was a talented artist and was frequently asked to draw murals on the school chalkboard. Her proficiency in typing and shorthand made it easy to land a good job at the Mack Truck Company in New Orleans, LA, where she was an Executive Secretary for several years. After moving to Pensacola, FL, she met and married a wonderful man named Welborn A. Phillips. Later, their family of five moved to Hartselle, AL where the family grew to include two more children. O. A. and Carmen Wales were friends that became family in Pensacola, and were hard to leave behind. Another move to Bedford, IN took place in 1971. Throughout the years, Lois was active in the PTA and a volunteer at Bedford Medical Center with good friend, Marcella Sears. Lois was widowed in 1974. Her final move was to the Muncie area to be closer to her Yorktown family and grandkids.
Lois loved spending time outdoors and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, feeding her birds, spending time with family, traveling the country with family (especially to FL), eating out, working crosswords, and pampering whatever cat she had at the time. She loved all of her cats, but her favorite was Smokey. She was very proud of all of her children and grandchildren and always asked what was new in their lives. She will leave a big void, but will always be an inspiration to them to persevere through the hard times and look forward to the good times. Forever the optimist, she always had “something good to look forward to” and would say, “life is good”. Lois loved her family deeply and prayed for each one before going to bed each night. She credited the Lord for her many blessings. Her sweet spirit and generosity will always be remembered.
Survivors include her children, Sandra Neal (husband, the late H. Allen Neal), Karen Phillips, Gary Phillips, Gail Phillips, Janice Swenson (husband, James Swenson), her grandchildren Autumn Lewandowski (husband, Benjamin), Taylor Neal (wife, Jennifer), Allison Neal, Andrew Swenson, and Alexander Swenson. Her nieces Marianne Lilly (husband, Chuck Bailey), Shirley Redcay (husband, Bob), and nephew, Wayne Ries were very special to her. She also loved Wilma Neal and her extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward M. and Frances M. Ries, brother Edward Ries, Jr. (wife, Elaine, who was a special “sister” to Lois), and brother, Gordon Ries (former wife, Lorraine).
Lois will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She was a beautiful person, inside and out. Her positive attitude, constant generosity, and loving heart will always be remembered and serve to inspire all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2024, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 7901 W. Isanogel Rd., Yorktown, IN 47396, with Pastor Bob O’Bannon officiating.
Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Mt. Pleasant Chapel.

Lana L. Wright - January 29, 1963 - October 10, 2023

Departed: 10/10/2023 (Muncie)
Obituary Preview: Lana Lenee Wright January 29, 1963 - October 10, 2023
Please join us in remembering Lana Lenee Wright, longtime resident of Muncie. Lana passed away in the late evening hours of Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at the age of 60.
Her most recent days were spent in the company of family and friends sharing stories, laughing, and sassing her caregivers and hospice nurse, Sara.
Lana was the youngest of four daughters born to Connie Rosemeyer and Phillip Wright. She attended Muncie Northside High School and Ball State University.
Upon graduating, Lana chose to devote her professional life to the service of others through administrative support positions. During her 30-year career at Ball State University she served in multiple departments including Student Life, the School of Journalism, the Rinker Center for Global Affairs, and the Ball State University Foundation. She developed long-time friendships which she cherished well after her retirement in 2021.
Lana was filled with pure joy and optimism. When you were with her, you knew she was focused on you and your conversation. No cell phones, no stepping away to talk with someone else, no interruptions distracted her from making the most of your time together. She had many dear friends and family members who loved her as deeply as she loved them.
She was a cultivator of relationships. So many have laughed with her, cried with her, had her lend a hand the minute a notion came up that someone needed help. She was always at the ready to offer support. She enveloped her loved ones in her famous Lana hugs and warmed our hearts with her distinctive laugh.
Lana loved to travel. Her favorite destinations were Isla Mujeres, Mexico, where she annually visited friends and enjoyed the roar of the surf and the moments of silence on early morning walks; and Panama City, FL, where she spent time with cherished sister, Julie and family. Additionally, she loved to cruise and travel the Caribbean.
Lana was a loyal Indianapolis Colts fan. She would gladly share her commentary on each game while reciting her favorite player's best moves.
We offer our thanks to Dr. Maitri Kalra, Dr. Marwan Mounayar, Dr. Morgan Langhofer, Dr. Charles Routh, the staff at the IU Health Ball Memorial Cancer Center, and the team from Heart to Heart Hospice, including Lana's dear friend Susan Campbell, and her hospice nurse, Sara McGuire, who spent countless hours talking and laughing with Lana.
Lana will be lovingly remembered by her father, Phillip (Linda) Wright; son, Devon Nannie; sisters, Julie (Glen) Franklin and Penny Howard; nieces, Casey (Casey) Wyatt and Katie (Rick) Farmer; nephews, Robb (Holly) Hoskins, Brandon Rogers, and Derek Kennedy; great-nieces, Karlie Smithwick, Annika Hoskins, and Tynlee Kennedy; and great-nephews Bryce and Beckett Farmer, Kolten Wyatt, and Chase Hoskins.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Connie Rosemeyer and sister, Tammy Kennedy.
Please join us in celebrating Lana's life at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 7901 W. Isanogel Road, Muncie.
