Kari Evans - April 12, 1972 - May 15, 2024

Departed: 05/15/2024 (Aurora)
Obituary Preview: Karlin Ann Evans, 52, of Aurora, IL passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in her home on May 15, 2024.
Kari, the third oldest of 4 siblings, was born in Aurora, IL on April 12, 1972. She attended Holy Angels elementary school, West Aurora High School, and was a graduate of University of Wisconsin Platteville. While at Platteville, Kari played for the womens’ varsity volleyball team all 4 years. Donning the #14 as her sisters did both before and after her, she served as captain during her senior year. She went on to complete her Master’s Degree at Benedictine University as well as getting her certification as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.
Kari’s number one priority was taking care of others as evidenced by her career choice. At the time of her passing, she worked at Suicide Prevention Services in Batavia, IL working as Director of Special Services. She joined the Crisis Line of Fox Valley in 1994, answering calls for the crisis and suicide hotlines, helping people struggling with thoughts of suicide and their mental health. In 1996, she was chosen as one of ten people for the FEMA Flood Project. She stayed with the Crisis Line as a volunteer until she was hired in 2000 to work for SPS in an official capacity.
Her passion for her career was only surpassed by her love for her family and time spent with them. Her giving spirit and compassionate heart were never more evident than in the role she played in raising her nephew, Ian. Also, every week for the better part of 9 years, Kari enjoyed time with her niece, Jayme, which simply became known as “Thursdays with Aunt Kari”. She loved spending time with family and friends in Green Lake, WI.
Kari was an avid reader often reading 3 books at the same time and a lover of all animals. Anyone who knows Kari, knows her to be a kind soul who was willing to help anyone, anytime, with anything. She was always in a cheerful mood, quick with a smile and made everyone laugh. People always felt good in Kari’s presence. She made us all want to be better and do better.
Kari was a loving daughter, aunt, sister, cousin, niece, and friend. She was a devoted supporter of the activities of all the young people in her life. Whether it be a dance recital, school events or (of course) volleyball games, she was a constant fixture in the stands.
Kari is preceded in death by her sister, Jayme Carlson, brother-in-law, John Carlson and grandparents Glenn and Violet Meyer and Robert and Alice Evans.
Kari is survived by her parents, Jim and Sue Evans, brother Todd Evans, sister Angie Bellafiore, brother-in-law VJ Bellafiore, nephew Ian Carlson, and nieces Ava and Jayme Bellafiore as well as many extended family members and friends. She is dearly loved and missed.
There will be a Celebration of Kari’s Life on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 with an open house from 3 pm to 8 pm at Enticing Cuisine Banquets & Catering, 1117 N. Washington Ave, Batavia, IL 60510.

Joseph Diederich - January 06, 1948 - May 10, 2024

Departed: 05/10/2024 (Aurora)
Obituary Preview: Joseph “Joe” Diederich 76, passed away peacefully at Delnor Hospital in Geneva on Friday, May 10th, 2024. Joseph was born on January 6, 1948 in Aurora, the son of Arthur and Kathryn (Nickles) Diederich . He was married to his beautiful wife, Karen (Gran), for close to fifty years.
A born joker, Joe was known for his outgoing and boisterous personality. If he wasn’t making little jokes about cutting off your hair, or teasing you about some other random thing, then he was most likely plotting some way to embarrass you. Whether it was by cracking a, shall we say, off-color joke simply to see how you would react, or showing up to Mike and Nicole's (Rice) wedding in a ratty t-shirt and shorts (which he later did change), he was always trying to make people laugh.
But Joe was so much more than a quick joke or a devilish wink of an eye. He was someone who loved to flirt far more than he probably should have. He wasn’t afraid to buy a stranger a beer right before getting into a bar fight (preferably with some Hank Williams playing in the background). He loved old cars, a passion he passed on to his grandson, Cole. And he was someone who, after retiring from a long career at AT&T ended up turning around and going right back because he couldn’t handle sitting still.
That didn’t last forever though, once Joe officially retired (for real this time), he enjoyed a quiet and peaceful life with Karen. Together they would spend an afternoon garage sale hopping, buying way more vintage hutches than one home really needed. (Those are not your humble writer’s words, but the image did bring a smile.) After a day out, they would spend their time sitting outside on the porch, people watching and relaxing in the sun.
If not browsing garage sales, you could be sure to find them enjoying a trip through time at a local antique shop or strolling through the farmer’s market, picking up fresh fruits and vegetables, and often making sure to bring home a rhubarb pie to satisfy a legendary quest for all things snacky. While a slice of fresh pie was always a favorite, Joe never met a Kit-Kat bar that he didn’t like, or any form of sugar for that matter. But with the sweet comes the savory and a Jack’s frozen pizza. Whether it was sausage, pepperoni, or supreme, a Jack’s always hit the spot. (Much to his daughter-in-law’s chagrin.) And when it came time to sit down for an episode of NCIS in the evening, Joe would make sure to have a bag of microwave fresh popcorn ready so that he could help Gibbs solve the case. I think we can all agree that Joe had a very sweet tooth. (Something had to be sweet about him, after all. – That one’s for you, Joe!)
It might seem like this remembrance forgot about the most important thing, but it didn’t. Instead, it saved the very best of Joe’s life for last. Joe was a prankster, a lover of old country music (you know the kind) and being outdoors. And these are all things he made sure to share with his beautiful family. Karen was his other half and the boys were his world. When asked about their childhood, Mike’s favorite memory was of his father teaching them how to fish. The location didn’t matter and neither did the type of fish. All that mattered was that they were together and that he was passing on something he loved to his sons. Joe would eventually get to share these things with his grandson, Cole. And just from talking to him about Joe, you can tell that grandpa definitely left his mark. So many wonderful details of Joe’s life have been lost to time. Dates. Life events. Who he was as a child. Silly stories that we often take for granted. But as we bring this to close, I can only shake my head and say, ya got the last laugh on this one, Joe. You didn’t make this easy for us and though you’re not here to threaten this writer’s hair… you still got me. You made me work for it. A final prank. A final laugh (at least for now). We tip our Kit-Kats in memory and hope that you and Karen are enjoying a beer and a frozen pizza together. (Just make sure to throw away the carboard, ok? Just this once?)
He is survived by multiple siblings; sons, Robert (Denise) Diederich and Michael (Jennifer) Diederich ; grandchildren, Cole Diederich , Ava Diederich , and Austin Diederich , along with a nieces and nephews and multiple cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathryn Diederich and father, Arthur Diederich ; brother, John Diederich ; and sons, Chad Diederich and Cliff Diederich.
Joseph will be reunited forever in death and laughter with his beautiful wife, Karen; and cherished sons, Chad and Cliff, at River Hills Memorial Park in Batavia.
A visitation will take place on Saturday, May 17, 2024 from 10 AM to 11 AM at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Pl., Aurora, IL 60506.  A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at 11 AM.  Interment will follow at River Hills Memorial Park, 1650 S. River St., Batavia, IL 60542.

Eileen C. Brengman - September 22, 1935 - May 03, 2024

Departed: 05/03/2024 (Aurora)
Obituary Preview: Eileen C. Brengman, 88, passed away peacefully at Mercy Center Hospital in Aurora on Friday, May 3rd, 2024. Eileen was born on September 22, 1935 in Aurora, the daughter of Gordon and Mildred (Hattersley) Cleaveland. She was married to her beloved husband, Clarence, for over 60 years.
A devout Catholic, devoted wife, and loving mother, Eileen loved being outdoors and soaking in the sunshine. In her younger years she could often be found playing softball, showing off her favorite bikini, or fishing with her family, even catching a sand shark on a family vacation to Florida.
She loved to dance and the music of Elvis. She and Clarence had tickets to see Elvis, but Elvis died just before they had their chance. She never forgave him for it. They also got to see Frank Sinatra preform, but he just didn’t compare to The King for Eileen. Eileen’s love of music and dance continued throughout her life, leading her to take disco dance classes with her son, Steve, in the late 70’s. It was something she never stopped talking about.
More than anything in the world, Eileen loved her family. Her two boys, Steve and Mark, were her entire world and she did everything she could to give them the best life possible. She spent her time taking them on family camping trips that included cousins, friends and more laughs and good times than could ever be fit into this humble remembrance. She drove the family camper through the mountains of Colorado, lured raccoons with bacon tins for her sons in Florida, but finally landed on Devil’s Lake in Baraboo, Wisconsin.
In 1956, Clarence and Eileen went to Devil’s Lake with Clarence’s brother Donnie and wife, Rosie. That one fateful trip would end up leading to a lifetime love of Devil’s Lake, not only for them, but for their children and grandchildren. Eileen spent summer after summer at the beach; teaching her young boys how to swim, watching them play in the sand and grilling for them. Nothing made her happier than to see them happy as they enjoyed the water and the sun and then eventually friends, girls, fishing, and cars, all at Devil’s Lake.
Through the years, Eileen served as Den mother in the Boy Scouts for Steve and Mark, while also taking care of her niece, Sharon. Over the years, Eileen would help take of various nieces, nephews and cousins, always opening her motherly arms to those who needed them. Eileen was always there for a child in need.
Eileen also loved to bowl and work banquets at the Best Western. And when Sunday rolled around, she would make sure that her sons were dressed in their Sunday best for church and when the time came, she made sure that they both served as altar boys.
As they grew older, Eileen continued to care for her sons, but thanks to Steve, she also gained three grandchildren to love and spoil. And much like she had with so many before, she helped to raise one of them. Eileen spent as much time as possible with Andrea, Matt and Ben, making them breakfast and taking them to school and picking them up when needed. Together they would go see movies, play endless hours of games at the arcade and eat as much junk food as possible.
When Andrea wanted to bring a cat home, Eileen was against it and it took quite a bit of convincing on her husband’s part. But from the moment that little kitten, Cosima, came home, Eileen was in love. She had a brand new grandchild to love on and love she did. Quite often the two of them could be found napping on the couch, enjoying the warmth of the sun.
In her older years, Eileen loved nothing more than to just to be with her family. It didn’t matter what they were doing. She could have been going to a flea market and holding Mark’s hand, or sitting in the shade at Steve’s house for a cookout. So long as her family was there, she was happy.
She is survived by her sister, Bernice (Rick Lawrence) Hurst; sons, Steven Brengman and Mark Brengman; grandchildren, Andrea Brengman, Matthew (Felicia) Brengman, and Bennett (Adrianna) Brengman along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred Rice and father, Gordon Cleaveland; siblings, John Norman, Marie Houghtby, Angeline Devore, Thelma Sutcliffe and Louise Johnson.
Eileen will be reunited in death with her husband, Clarence, at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
A visitation will take place from 3 PM to 8 PM on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Pl., Aurora, IL 60506.  The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at The Healy Chapel at 10 AM, with Father Jerome Leake presiding.  Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.

Teresa Jo Childress - August 16, 1958 - April 06, 2024

Departed: 04/06/2024 (Aurora)
Obituary Preview: It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that our family shares the passing of Teresa Jo (Alley) Childress. It is also with great joy that we take profound solace in the fact she will now enjoy eternal bliss with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Born a coal miner’s daughter in the region of Harlan, Kentucky on August 16th, 1958, to Joe and Patsy Alley, Teresa embraced and celebrated her heritage, keeping those traditions alive long after her family left for a better life, settling in Aurora, IL. Teresa graduated from Aurora West High School in 1976, where she was the school’s mascot, Chief Blackhawk, at sporting events and pep rallies. It was there she met her future husband, Christopher Childress, starting their lifelong love affair as high school sweethearts.
Married at an early age, Teresa and Chris formed a partnership that spanned five decades and two centuries. Chris often refers to the union as the best thing that ever happened to him. As they grew together, they put to test the old axiom that “opposites attract,” leveraging and leaning on the strengths of each other to solidify a union strong to its core.
Teresa never let schooling get in the way of her learning. She took her lessons where and from whom she got them, building a set of personal and professional skills that she put to work as a successful businesswoman at AT&T and later after joining her father’s business, Alley Drywall. She then helped launch a new and growing business in Aurora, Progressive Business Solutions, where she applied excellent administrative skills to a young business in need of them and became a substantial energy industry specialist in her own right.
Those who knew Teresa understood that there was no one more hard-working and dedicated to the tasks and responsibilities she took on. But it was her family where Teresa’s strongest dedication and commitment came to life. She was a world-class devoted mother, sister, daughter, and wife who never rested until she ensured the success of her family first.
You would rue the day if you ever crossed one of her two daughters, Krista (b. 1985) and Kallie (b.1988). She took such joy in the successes of her two girls, both of whom emulate Teresa’s greatest trait of all – her genuine, authentic kindness that she spread wherever she went, and that people came to love and appreciate in her.
Teresa enjoyed concerts, musicals, traveling, and whipping up a mean batch of her Kentucky home specialty, biscuits and gravy with fried green tomatoes that were often imitated but never duplicated.
Teresa is survived by her husband Chris; daughters Dr. Krista Jo Childress and Kallie Flynn Childress (Javier) Sanchez; her father Joe Franklin Alley; and siblings Tanya (Manny) Aguilar; Gary (Krisellen) Alley; Lisa (Kevin) Clukey; and several nieces and nephews whom she cherished with all her heart and who referred to her as Aunt Tutu and Aunt Sissy and grand dogs Ellie and Finley.
Teresa is preceded in death by her mother Patsy Jo (Laws) Alley and her first grand dog, Snickers.
