Darwin was born in central Louisiana. His family moved to Texas when he was 10 years old. With an interest in model cars, Darwin saw an advertisement in a magazine for the Fisher Body Craftsman’s Guild contest, and entered. He won a scholarship to Junior College, and later won another contest for an 8 semester scholarship to ArtCenter College of Design in Los Angeles, California. During his last term at ArtCenter, he was offered a job as a designer at Ford Motor Company. Darwin worked at Ford his entire career, spanning 38 years, and retiring in 2002. After retirement, Darwin was actively involved in the League of Retired Auto Designers, updating the design of classic cars to the current day. Darwin and his family have lived in the Ford Historic Home district, that was built in 1919 for Ford employees.
Darwin met and married his wife, Angela, in 1967. Soon after marriage, he was sent to work at Ford design in England for a year. After returning to the United States, Darwin and Angela had three children, Tracy, Travis, and Tamara, and later on; two grandchildren Ethan and Abigail. Faith and family were the most important parts of Darwin’s life, and if you knew Darwin at all, you would know this to be true. He would do anything for those he loved, yet was the most humble, and never wanted or needed recognition. Antonia (Toni) Schaefer - March 04, 1927 - April 15, 2024

Departed: 04/15/2024 (Allen Park,)
Obituary Preview: Antonia lived a full adventurous life, drove until her 90’s, went to church 3-4 times a week, visited family and friends regularly, went out to eat 3-4 times a week. Up until her knee problem in her late 80’s, Toni line-danced, ice skated, cross country skied, walked a mile daily, bicycled, played tennis, and went on yearly pilgrimages to St Anne in Toronto and several other out of state bus trips in addition to many foreign excursions.
She remembered all the birthdays of her children and spouses, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She created something in her kitchen for all … cookies, cake, soup, Italian potato salad, zwetchkendatche and stollen.
God blessed Toni with two miraculous cures from dangerous malignant cancers, both of which were diagnosed and surgically removed within a month of the discovery. One at age 60 and the other at age 89. Both of her recoveries were remarkable, with last being mystical as she was discharged within 24 hours and took no pain medication. Her astonished doctor proclaimed he hadn't seen a recovery like hers in his other patients including the 30 / 40 year olds. Her doctor presented her case to the hospital tumor board because of the complicated diagnosis, the major surgery at age 89, and then her remarkable recovery and cure.
She remained faith filled, joyful and always returned to a happy life despite her many trials and tribulations …always trusting in God and the protection of the Blessed Mother. As with many of her generation, she had endured poverty, war and bombings, homelessness, hunger, life threatening illnesses, inadequate or primitive medical care, long periods of isolation from her immediate family, and had no family' assistance with the births and raising of her four children.
This was followed by the the sudden unexpected shock of widowhood when her beloved husband Wolfgang, died at the early age of 48.
Toni’s number one time commitment was to her beloved Catholic Church. She had traveled to all of the major pilgrimage sights, including Fatima, Lourdes, Jerusalem, Guadalupe, Rome, and Medjugore. She had been a parishioner of the same church for approximately 65 years. In her later days, instead of baking cupcakes and baked goods for the Women's Guild, Toni continued with the meetings, attended Mass 2-3 times a week, and attended devotions for the Rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy an additional 2-3 times a week.
She had a special love and devotion for Blessed Mother Mary, always following her to her son Jesus.. When Toni was not at church, she prayed the Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, every single day. She prayed for each one in her family, calling them by name; children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her family has been blessed by her many prayers and thank her for this priceless treasure…. this tremendous show of love ... though unseen and  hidden, it was the ultimate-gift above all others.
Born March 4th, 1927 in Munich, Germany to the late Josef and Helena Janka. Immigrating to the United States in 1952. Loving wife of the late Wolfgang. Dear mother of Martha (Patrick) Morrin, Angela (Mark) Thomson, Gabriella (Ken) Holt, and Loretta (Gary) Warda. Proud grandmother of Angela (Cory) Waite, Eric (Amie) Kuciban, Matthew (Jenny) Thomson, Natalie (Collin) Dominguez, Mark Thomson, Melanie Thomson, Erica (Matt) Holt, Danielle Holt, Alanna Holt, Alexander (Ashley-Rose) Holt, Monica Warda, Caitlin (Dane) Woody, Hayley (David) Pierzynski, Bridgette Warda, and Alec Warda. Great grandmother of Jackson, Leo, Oliver, Max, Adeline, Madeline, Luke, Philip, Nathanael, Olivia, Antonia, Theresa, Connor, Adam, Audrey, Aaron, Marie, Sabina, Rosalyn, Piper, Shay, Ivy, and Otto. Also survived by nephew Herbert (Johanna) Olvermann, and great nephews Ernst Olvermann and Joerg Olvermann. In addition to her husband and parents, Antonia was preceded in death by a sister Martha Olvermann.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's often published in newspapers, online obituary websites, or funeral home websites to inform friends, family, and community members of the person's passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and remember the deceased, while also providing essential information to those who want to pay their respects. They help notify people of the person's passing, share details about their life, and offer an opportunity for loved ones to express their condolences.

Who typically writes an obituary?

The responsibility of writing an obituary usually falls on the family members or close friends of the deceased. In some cases, a funeral home or obituary writer may assist with the writing process. The person writing the obituary should have a good understanding of the deceased's life, personality, and accomplishments.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include information about the funeral or memorial service, as well as any charities or organizations where donations can be made in the person's memory.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or website it will be featured in. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from 100 to 500 words. Longer obituaries may be suitable for online publications or social media platforms.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can help personalize the tribute and make it more engaging for readers. Be sure to check with the publication or website for their specific guidelines on photo submissions.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and deadlines. They may require you to fill out a form or provide the information via email or phone. Be prepared to provide all necessary details and proofread your submission carefully before submitting it.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary in advance as a way to control how they want to be remembered. This can be a therapeutic exercise that helps individuals reflect on their life and accomplishments. However, it's essential to keep in mind that the final version may need to be edited or modified by family members or funeral homes.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies widely depending on the publication, location, and length of the notice. Online obituary websites may offer free or low-cost options, while traditional newspapers may charge anywhere from $50 to several hundred dollars.

Can I edit an obituary after it's been published?

In most cases, edits can be made to an online obituary after it's been published. However, corrections to printed newspaper obituaries may not be possible once they've gone to press. It's crucial to proofread carefully before submitting the final version.

What if I want to keep the obituary private?

If you prefer not to publicly announce the person's passing, you can opt for a private or limited-circulation obituary. This might be shared only with close family and friends or published on a private online platform.

Can I include quotes or poems in an obituary?

Absolutely! Including meaningful quotes, poems, or lyrics can add a personal touch to the obituary and help capture the essence of the person being honored. Just ensure they are relevant and respectful.

How do I find old obituaries?

You can search online archives of newspapers or visit local libraries that maintain historical records. Many genealogy websites and online databases also offer access to archived obituaries. Additionally, you can try contacting funeral homes or churches where services were held.

Can I republish an old obituary online?

If you're considering republishing an old obituary online, ensure you have permission from the original author or publisher. You may need to obtain copyright clearance or provide proper attribution.

What if there are errors in an already-published obituary?

If you discover errors in a published obituary, contact the publication or website immediately. They may issue a correction or update the online version. For printed newspapers, a correction notice may be published in a subsequent edition.

Can I create a digital archive of my loved one's obituary?

Yes! Consider creating a digital archive by saving a copy of the obituary as a PDF or image file. You can also share it on social media platforms or create a memorial webpage on websites like Legacy.com or Tributes.com.

How do I handle condolences and messages from strangers?

If you're receiving condolences from people you don't know personally, you can respond with a simple "thank you" or acknowledge their kind words without feeling obligated to engage in further conversation.

Can I use social media to share an obituary?

Absolutely! Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter can be effective ways to share news of a loved one's passing with a wider audience. You can share a link to the online obituary or post a brief summary along with any relevant details.

What if I'm struggling to write an obituary due to grief?

It's completely normal to feel overwhelmed by emotions when writing an obituary. Consider enlisting the help of a friend, family member, or professional writer who can assist with crafting a tribute that honors your loved one.

Can I include charitable donations information in an obituary?

Yes! Many families choose to include information about charitable organizations or causes that were important to their loved one. This can serve as a meaningful way to continue their legacy and encourage others to support these efforts.

How long does it take for an online obituary to be published?

The time frame for publishing an online obituary varies depending on the website or platform. Some may publish immediately upon submission, while others may take several hours or even days for review and approval.

Can I remove an online obituary after it's been published?

In most cases, yes! If you need to remove an online obituary for any reason, contact the website administrator or customer support team for assistance. They should be able to delete or hide the notice according to your request.

What if I want to create a permanent memorial for my loved one?

You can consider creating a permanent memorial through various means such as establishing a scholarship fund, planting trees in their honor, or commissioning a custom piece of artwork. These lasting tributes can serve as a beautiful way to celebrate your loved one's life.
