Obituary Preview: Mary Ann Murphy (nee Quinn), age 76, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 28, 2023. She is survived by her beloved husband, Joseph Murphy, and leaves behind a legacy of love and family.
Mary Ann was a devoted mother to her children, Robert (Bianca) Murphy and Kelly (Marc) Willoughby. She was a loving grandma to Ashley and Alexis Willoughby, as well as Timothy and Lauren Murphy. Mary Ann cherished her role as a grandmother, creating lasting memories with her grandchildren.
She was a dear sister to James (Arlene) Quinn and Florence (Wilbert Huddleston) Sidlo. She also held a special place in her heart for her sister-in-law, Bernadette Quinn, and was an adored aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Anna Quinn, and her brothers, William (Mary) Quinn, Thomas (Margaret) Quinn, and Martin Quinn. While she is no longer with us, her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Rd., Joliet. A Funeral Mass to celebrate Mary Ann's life will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at 10:00 am at St. Dennis Catholic Church, 1214 S Hamilton St, Lockport, IL with burial to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip,Il.

Born July 13, 1951 in Texas, Joseph was a son of Sabas and Josefina (Mosqueda) Hinojosa. He earned his G.E.D. education and worked as a mechanic and supervisor for the City of Joliet for a number of years until retirement. Joseph was a devoted family man who also loved all of his fur babies. In his free time, he enjoyed watching Nascar races and rooting for the Chicago Cubs. Joseph will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife: Susie (Pena) Hinojosa; children: Gidget Hinojosa, Stella (Abel) Meija and Anthony Hinojosa; godson: Aaron Aguirre; grandchildren: Gabriel & Yesenia Hinojosa, and Ethan, Sebastian, Julian and Isabella Mejia; great-grandchildren: Aiden and Anastasia; siblings: Mary Rodriguez, Connie (Henry) Villafranco, Robert and Carlos Hinojosa, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents: Sabas and Josefina; brother: Jesse (Francis) Hinojosa, and niece: Michelle Hinojosa.
Per Joseph’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.

Age 88, passed away peacefully on September 23, 1923.
Born January 14, 1935 in Joliet, Illinois to the late John and Pauline (Kovalcik) Tichy.
Survived by her beloved daughters: Jodie (Allan) Bertucci and Michelle DeLara (Bob Gilson); grandchildren: Michael (Rebecca) Tibble, Kaitlyn DeLara (Stephen Budz) and Nikolas Bertucci; great-grandchildren: Laileana DeLara, Maximus and Lucas Tibble and Jaxon Butz. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law: Vivian Tichy, Barb Tibble, Sandra Tibble and Sandra Wisneski. Dolores is also survived by her God-children: David (Lynn) Siefert, Dana (Dennis) Butt and Cindy Wisneski, and life-long friends: Marianne Horvath, Edith and Wayne Pickens and Josefina Johnson. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews along with cherished cousins and friends.
Dorie was preceded in death by her husband: Thomas Tibble who passed away in 2009; brother: John Tichy; in-laws: Robert Tibble, Alvin Tibble, Marlene Franzen and nephew Steven Tichy.
Dolores attended St. Cyril and Methodius Grade School and Joliet Central High School. Dolores was a member of the C.C.W. at St. Patrick’s Church in Joliet. After retirement, Tom and Dolores moved to Farmington, NM in 1994. Dolores was a member of the Altar Society and was very involved in volunteering for 25 years with her church, St. Mary’s of Farmington. Dolores considered her church family to be among her very special friends. Dolores’ hobbies included oil painting, wood-carving, flower arranging and cake decorating. Dolores had a warm heart and helped anyone who was in need. She would give of her time and energy to assist her family, friends and fellow parishioners. Dolores’ true passion was spending quality time with her family and enjoying the special moments in life surrounded by their love. Dolores taught her children to always appreciate and respect how blessed they were to be surrounded by love, family and friends. Dolores believed that you always put others’ needs first and if you were in the position to help anyone in life, that’s what you are here to do.
Per Dolores’ wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
The family will receive relatives and friends for a memorial visitation on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church, 2212 McDonough Street in Joliet. Interment will follow and Dorie will be laid to rest with her husband at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.

Obituary Preview: Anthony George “Tony” Smrekar, 86, of Lockport, passed away peacefully at home in the care of Lightways Hospice on Friday, September 22, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Born February 22, 1937, in Joliet, Tony was a son of Anton and Frances (Papesh) Smrekar. He was raised and educated in Lockport, graduating with the Lockport Township High School class of ‘54.  Following graduation, Tony proudly served in the United States Army.  He was honorably discharged and went on to work as a crew leader for Nicor Gas for 39 years until retirement.
Tony was an avid gardener who created an incredibly beautiful outdoor environment, which his family enjoyed for years.  He took great pride in his work and could repair or build anything.  He instilled a strong work ethic in his family, leading by example.  A dedicated family man; he was our solid foundation.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years: Janice (Novak); his daughters: Carolyn (Brandt) Randall, Patricia (Sean) Kelly and Janet (Richard) Slomka; as well as seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  Also surviving Tony are his siblings: Robert (Judy) Smrekar, Geraldine (the late Robert) Grivetti, Marianne (Jim) Kobe, (the late David) Judy Smrekar, Frances (Rick) Mutz, and their families.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Anton and Frances (Papesh) Smrekar, and brother: David Smrekar.
Per Tony’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
Family will receive relatives and friends for a memorial visitation on Friday, September 29, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. until time of closing prayers beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet. Following prayers, the funeral will drive in procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:30 a.m. A private interment will follow Mass and Anthony will be laid to rest with full military honors at St. Joseph Cemetery in Joliet.

Francine was a loving mother to her only child, Craig A. Cady; beloved sister to Marylynn Kombol; beloved sister-in-law to Rosemary Frangella; beloved cousin to Bernadine (Ron) Gudac, Laura (Jerry) Mitok, David Kuhar and Sr. Beth Ann Baricevich. Numerous other cousins also survive.
Preceded in death by her ex-husband, Eugene A. Cady; parents: Frank and Mary (née Tomac) Kombol; siblings: Ronald Kombol, Caroline Ortega.
Francine was born in Joliet and resided in the Joliet area for most of her life. She worked at Wolfson’s Clothing and Jewelry store, 72 N. Chicago St. for more than 17 years. She also worked at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center as a cashier and retired in 2010 after 30 years of service.
Francine was a warm-hearted soul who was always available to her family and friends and would help in any way she could.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy (nee Ancel), his son, Zachary Mitok, and his stepdaughter, Jamie (Dinah Off) Eskridge. His parents, Rick and Patsy Mitok, and numerous cousins also survive him.
Preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John R. Mitok Sr. and Grace (Scott) Mitok, and his maternal grandparents, Harvey E. and Dorothy (nee Malnar) Richards.
Mike began his career as a machinist at Hendrickson Stamping, where he honed his skills and developed a reputation for his meticulous work. His mechanical expertise led him to a position at Atlas, where he served as a trusted mechanic. Mike's leadership abilities were recognized when he was appointed as a manager at Guildhaus. His final professional role was in maintenance at Target, where he continued to demonstrate his dedication and hard work.
Mike's interests extended beyond his work. He was a loving father and a devoted husband, always putting his family first. His love for music was evident in his passion for playing the guitar.
Those who knew Mike will remember him as a wise man who always had a piece of advice to share. His sense of humor was infectious, often lightening the mood and bringing smiles to those around him.
Mike Mitok's life was a testament to his dedication to his family, his passion for his work, and his love for music. His memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Born October 20, 1949 in Joliet, Georgia was a daughter of George and Elvira (Hernandez) Meads. She was raised and educated in the Joliet area and attended St. Ambrose Grade School and then graduated from Lockport West High School with the class of 1967. Following graduation, she attended the nursing program through Joliet Junior College and dedicated her life to helping others as a registered nurse until retiring. On October 21, 1992 Georgia married her best friend Fred Suhadolc in Kankakee and together they lived life to the fullest. Georgia will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 31 years: Fred; son: Duane Arend; daughter-in-law: Jeannine Arend; granddaughter: Mallory Arend; siblings: Monte Meads, William Meads, Donna (Bruce) Stimac, Anthony (Sue) Meads and Michael Meads, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Georgia was preceded in death by her parents: George and Elvira Meads.
Per Georgia’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
A private interment will be held at a later date and Georgia will be laid to rest at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.

Her remarkable life was a testament to her unwavering love, boundless compassion, and enduring faith in Jesus Christ.
Phyllis was a beacon of love and kindness, touching the lives of countless individuals through her dedication to building relationships and radiating the love of Jesus in every aspect of her life.
She was an active and cherished member of various organizations and activities, leaving an indelible mark on all she encountered. Phyllis was a charter member of the "R" Club, where she found joy in gathering with fellow women for 50 years at Merichka's, sharing dinners and fostering cherished friendships. She was also a 40-year member of the Canasta Club, where lasting memories were created, problems solved, and lifelong bonds formed during their Tuesday gatherings.
Her commitment to the community extended to her membership in the Senior Services Center, the crochet group, St. Joseph's Friday Prayer Shawl Group, Sacred Heart Church, Stone City Post #2199 Auxiliary, and Santa's Helpers. Phyllis gave selflessly of her time, energy, and resources, exemplifying the spirit of service.
Phyllis dedicated years of her life as a secretary at Joliet East High School and Joliet West High School, where her warm smile and caring demeanor left a lasting impact on students and colleagues alike. She was also an active participant in Operation Care Package, creating crocheted and knitted hats for active-duty soldiers, embodying her dedication to those who served.
One of Phyllis's most cherished roles was her lifelong membership in the Al-Anon Family Group, where she offered solace and support to countless individuals. Over the years, she ministered to hundreds, sharing her strength, hope, and love. These were attributes she learned at a young age while living at The Guardian Angel Home due to her mother’s early passing when Phyllis was only 10 years old.
Phyllis's culinary talents were legendary. She was renowned for her delicious cookies and cakes, which she generously shared with family, friends, postal workers, and anyone fortunate enough to cross her path. She found joy in baking and knew that sharing her creations was a simple yet meaningful way to spread happiness.
In her leisure time, Phyllis enjoyed reading the morning Herald News and tackling the daily crossword puzzles and cutting out the Chicago Cubs game schedule. Win or lose, she watched her Cubbies faithfully and was their #1 fan. Her nimble fingers also crafted afghans and lap robes, gifts of warmth and love for friends, family, and those in need through Santa's Helpers.
Phyllis had a competitive spirit and relished playing poker with her sisters and card games like pinochle and rummy with her children and grandchildren. Her laughter and enthusiasm filled the room during these cherished moments.
Phyllis's generous heart extended to annual food drives, where she lent her support to provide sustenance for those in need. Her commitment to serving her community knew no bounds.
Phyllis June Keca will be dearly missed but remembered with gratitude for the countless lives she touched and the love she shared. Her legacy of kindness, compassion, and service will continue to inspire us all.
May her soul find eternal peace and rest in the embrace of her Lord, whom she served so faithfully.
She is now reunited with those who preceded her in death: her beloved husband, John Joseph Keca, who passed away on September 17, 1996, her parents, Angela Likovic and John Knudtson, her stepmother, Grace Marie Knudtson, her beloved sister, Annabelle Knudtson Freberg, her little brother, Jackie Knudtson, and numerous dear friends.
She is survived by a legacy of love that will forever be cherished by her children: Robert John (Linda James) Keca, Deborah J. (R. David) Samson, and Barbara J. (Dwayne Allen) Hendrickson.
Phyllis was not just a mother but a guiding star in her children's lives, teaching them the values of love, faith, and service. Her love and wisdom will continue to inspire and guide them through life's journey.
Phyllis was also a proud and loving grandmother to Janine Lynn (Chris) Wange, Dr. Melissa Nicole (Dr. Justin) Kwak, Robert Walter (Heather) Keca, Dr. Samantha (Phil) Mathews, Gina Marie (Josh) Levine, Jonathan David (Holly) Samson, Jordan Micah Hendrickson, and Joel David Hendrickson. Her warmth and affection touched each of their lives in unique and special ways.
Her great-grandchildren, Killian Levine, Crosby Levine, Clio Levine, Ian Lion, Leland Lion, Liam Wange, Haley Wange, Sophia Mathews, and Parker Mathews brought boundless joy to her heart.
Phyllis is also survived by her beloved sisters, Doris Kaps and Joan Middaugh. Their unbreakable bond was a source of strength and support throughout their lives.
As we remember and celebrate Phyllis's life, we are reminded of the love and joy she brought to her family. Her legacy is one of love, compassion, and unwavering faith in her beloved Jesus. Her memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration.

Age 79 of Channahon, passed away peacefully after a prolonged illness following a heart surgery on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Lightways Hospice Care in Joliet with his family by his side.
Born August 18, 1944 in Chicago, Tim was a son of Thomas and Ellen (Sheehan) Kilroy. He was raised and educated in Bellwood and graduated from Proviso West High School with the class of 1962. Following graduation, Tim proudly served in the United States Navy. After being honorably discharged, he went on to work as a machinist and then later became an instructor for Commonwealth Edison until retiring.
Tim was a proud Irishman and devoted Notre Dame Fan. He was an active guy who enjoyed riding motorcycles, working on cars and attending car shows, going boating, taking walks in nature at Four Rivers in Channahon and playing cards with friends and family. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 298 in Morris and found a “second” career working at the Rt. 66 dragstrip, which he absolutely loved. Tim will be deeply missed by all of those that knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years: Caren (Longo) Kilroy; daughter and son-in-law: Lauren and Scott Lemke; grandchildren: Taylin and Kai; sisters: Judy Perosa and Thomasine Kniceley, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents: Thomas and Ellen; brother: Terry Kilroy and sister: Ellen Roney.
Family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet. Obituary Preview: Robert James Clayton was born January 10, 1956 in Laurel, MS to Nellie Mae Clayton. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Church of Christ in Laurel.
Robert attended Lockport and Joliet Public Schools along with Joliet Junior College. He was a Marine who served in Japan during his enlistment, receiving an Honorable Discharge. Robert retired from IYC-Joliet after 30 years of service due to failing health. He continued weightlifting and loved a good challenge or competition with his family and friends. Many years were spent being active in sports playing basketball, softball and bowling to which he had four 300 games. As much as he loved to play sports when he could, he enjoyed watching Basketball and Football. He had favorite players Dr. J and teams SF 49ers but was awaiting the budding career of James Wiseman with The Detroit Pistons this season. He had other talents to which he was proud of his self taught carpentry skills and remodeling skills. Sharing his bbq skills and food with anyone accepting. He was loving and generous with his wisdom and kept his family and friends in stitches with his quick wit and laughter.
He is preceded in death by his mother Nellie Clayton, brother Henry Clayton, daughter Tieesha Walker, sister in law Joan Farris, brothers in law Gene, Excell, Wendell and Lester Farries. Grandparents Lillie Mae and James Clayton, aunt Everta Sims, uncles B.C., Breyland and William Clayton, cousins Michelle, Clyde and others.
Robert leaves to cherish his memory a loving, devoted caregiving wife Vivian (nee) Farries, children Robert (Robin), Laderick, Rob (Crystal) Gray. Grandchildren, in-laws in love Marshall (Sherry), Stanley (Areta), Gary (Omaira), Brian (Brenda), Rosemary, Joyce, Brenda, Carolyn (John) Rattliff and Sherry. She was raised and educated in Joliet and graduated from St. Francis Academy with the class of 1957. Trudy went on to work for Ecolab and after more than 25 years of service, retired in 2002. She was a devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Joliet. Trudy will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughters: Kimberly Kaiser (William Felkins) and Michelle Kaiser (Sean Cavanagh); grandson: Michael P. Bols (Katie Bols); great-grandson: Michael Bols; sister: Elaine (the late Bob) Blazekovich; sisters-in-law: Phyllis Wolfe and Susan Padovich, and nephew: William Wolfe.

Following graduation, Sarah was hired as a veterinary technician for VCA Joliet Animal Hospital. Taking care of animals was her true calling and she felt very fortunate to be able to love going to work every day. On August 2, 2014, Sarah married her best friend, Mr. Matthew Lucas at St. Jude Catholic Church in Joliet. Together they made a home and many cherished memories. In her free time, Sarah enjoyed being creative with all different types of crafts and loved to decorate. She especially enjoyed decorating for her favorite holidays, Halloween and Christmas. Fall was definitely her favorite season and she enjoyed traveling to various pumpkin patches and participate in other various fall activities. When she wasn’t taking care of her own animals or Matt, she enjoyed relaxing to old “I Love Lucy” re-runs and cheering on the Chicago Cubs when they were playing. Sarah will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Obituary Preview: After braving an eight year battle with Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease, John William Ancel went to be with the Lord peacefully at the age of 58, on Monday, August 21, 2023. He was born on January 30, 1965. At the time of his birth, his parents John B. (d. 1980) and Marlene (d. 2015) were already proud parents of Karen (Patrick) Briscoe, Randy (Gabriella) Ancel, and Nancy (Michael) Mitok. Preceded in death by his cherished God Parents, Richard and Josephine Tezak.
John graduated from St. Joseph’s School, Joliet Catholic High School, and the then College of St. Francis. During his school years, John made many lifelong lasting friendships. Several of those friends were in his wedding and continued supporting him through his illness. Special thank you to, John Mihelich, John Konopek Jr., Paul Pluth, Ray Smith and so many others.
While growing up, he played baseball, basketball, and his truest love, football. Because he became an uncle at a young age, he treasured his 6 nieces and nephews: Michael (Michele) Briscoe, Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Ancel, Christine (Neil) Hodge, Kelley (Charles) Hill, Jamie (Dinah) Eskridge, and Zachary Mitok. He was loved by his 11 great nieces and nephews.
John married the love of his life, Jodi Tannenbaum, daughter of Gerald (d. 2000) and Sharon, in 1988. He gained 3 sisters and a brother by marrying Jodi: Susan (Patrick, d. 2019) O’Connell, Douglas (Yocelin Zavala), Angela (Larry, d. 2005) McKay, and Staci (Greg) Geistler. He is survived by 9 nieces and nephews on that side of the family.
The greatest blessings in life were their children John J. and Jake (Victoria) Ancel. John enjoyed coaching baseball, basketball, and football, befriending so many more children and their parents. John built many positive relationships during his 28 year career at Allstate Insurance.
In 2015, at the age of 50, John was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease. He and Jodi decided to make the most out of every day and completed everything they had ever wanted to do in life including becoming grandparents to the sweetest children, William Blaise and Josephine Rose Ancel.

Following graduation, Eric attended Moraine Valley Community College. On March 17, 1983 Eric met the love of his life through mutual friends, Ms. Sandi Girten, and on October 24, 1987 they were married at St. Louis De Montfort Church in Oak Lawn. Eric worked in various industries and eventually found himself serving as medical auditor for the Carpenter’s Welfare Fund which he did up until retiring in 2022. Eric was an avid reader and loved to keep up with current events which always led to great conversations. He was the biggest Chicago Bears fan that anyone would have ever met. He also enjoyed cooking and taking care of others. Eric will be remembered for his generosity and kind heart. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

When Anne was four, the family moved to Shorewood, making a home in Camelot. She spent her grade school years at Minooka, then moved on to St. Francis Academy. After earning an associate degree at Joliet Junior College, she attended the University of Missouri-Columbia. Her grace and style served her well as she took on a job at Bloomingdales in Chicago. It was during that time she met, dated, and later married Tim Chakos. The two moved to Bradenton, FL, quickly making a home there. They eventually welcomed children Maximilian, Annika, and Katrina, the true joys of Anne's life. Anne also found a new passion in Florida: real estate. After earning her license, and meeting mentors Tracy and Michelle, she began to make her mark in the field. She worked as a sales associate at Lee Wetherington Homes, a sales manager at Premier Sotheby's International Realty, and eventually as associate director of new homes and condos at Michael Saunders & Company in Sarasota, FL. Her strength in facing her diagnosis was an inspiration to all who knew her. That strength, along with her quick humor, beauty, musical laugh, and kindness, will be greatly missed.
She's survived by her husband, Tim, son, Maximilian, daughters, Annika and Katrina, her mother, Susan, brothers, John and Frank, godparents, Lynn and Janis Most, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, colleagues, friends, and her fellow members of the Fabulous Five: Kathy, Patti, Kim and Betsy.
