Linda led a full life, raising two boys, going to sporting events, chauffeuring her mother Lois and aunt Eileen, spending time at the lake, water skiing, golfing, fishing, hunting, baking cakes, sewing, and traveling with David. John Anthony Hagen - January 13, 1958 - May 12, 2024

Departed: 05/12/2024 (Webster)
Obituary Preview: John Anthony Hagen January 13, 1958-May 12, 2024
If John wasn’t in the garage fixing stuff and puttering, he was in the kitchen making his famous breakfast for his family or he was at a friend’s or family member’s house assisting with whatever was needed or he was attending a grandchild’s dance recital or hockey game or school event. John had a hard time sitting still. He loved hunting, fishing, traveling, golfing and loading up his family on their pontoon boat to go for a cruise around Mud Hen Lake. He showed love to his family and friends through helping and cooking and fixing and showing up.
John Anthony was born in Hibbing, MN to Otto and Elizabeth Sara Hagen on January 13, 1958. He moved around first to Libby, MT then to Anoka, MN and then he graduated from high school in Deer River, MN. He worked in many capacities including being a welder, a Manufacturing Manager, Business Owner and then finally retiring as a Director of Environmental Services.
Tami and John had a mixed marriage. John was an avid Vikings fan and Tami was a devoted Packers fan. When Tami was brave enough to introduce John to her brothers before they married in 1983, they put him through the wringer (like good brothers do). They loved each other so much but over all the years they still had to view the Packers vs. Vikings games in different rooms. They raised and adored Joshua and Jessica who paid them back by giving them three beautiful grandchildren, Amelia, Hudson and Camilla. Joshua’s wife, Jodi, was also a very welcome addition.
The Hagen's have always been a close family who talk to each other every day—sometimes several times a day. If you were to show up to a frequent Hagen event, you’d see kids and dogs flailing around and playing; you'd smell the aroma of a meat that John was barbecuing on the grill; you’d hear laughing and yelling and teasing —so much love and life. You couldn’t help but want to be a part of it. His sudden death shocked everyone, and we will miss John an exorbitant amount. It might take a while but, there’s no doubt that the laughter will come back. Maybe it’ll be during sunset on the pontoon boat, popping open a Miller Lite and raising the can to the sky.

Sherry Lee Miller - November 19, 1956 - April 17, 2024

Departed: 04/17/2024 (Webster)
Obituary Preview: Sherry L. Miller, age 67, of Grantsburg, passed away peacefully at home with loved ones by her side on April 17, 2024, after a courageous four-year battle with cancer.
Sherry was born on Nov. 19, 1956 to parents Richard and Gwendolyn (Piatt) Miller in Minneapolis, Minn. She was one of five other siblings born to this marriage. She graduated from Patrick Henry High School in Minneapolis.
On March 19, 1977, Sherry was blessed with a daughter, Sonya (Casey). Before her daughter was born, Sherry had a love of watching figure skating as she was growing up. For this reason, she decided to name her daughter after the Norwegian figure skater and film star, Sonja Henie who she was a fan of. After Sonya was born, they continued to live in Minneapolis until they made the move to Frederic in the mid 1980s.
Sherry’s longest career that she thoroughly loved and was passionate about was with Provide Care, being a personal care assistant. She enjoyed the role of helping and taking care of others and took that job very seriously. She touched many lives while being in the role of a caretaker. She was with Provide Care for many years, until she was diagnosed with stage four uterine cancer in 2020.
One of Sherry’s favorite things to do was to ride around Crex Meadows and see the wildlife with her family, especially in the warmer months with the windows down. She also would usually never turn down a game of 10,000, King’s Corner, Cribbage, or Skip-Bo. Besides playing games, she was also quite good at crocheting, even teaching her granddaughter the skill of crocheting and also cross-stitching as she grew up.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Gwendolyn (Piatt) Miller; brother, Charles Miller; nephew, Zachary Kleve; a couple aunts and uncles; and her best friend of over 26 years who lost her battle to cancer due to COVID in 2021, Julie Albrecht.
She is survived by her daughter, Sonya (Jeremy) Casey; grandchildren, Kayla Casey, Austin (Makenna) Casey, Kadin Casey; great-grandchild, Jaxon Casey; sisters, Becky Henson, Robyn Miller; brothers, Raymond Miller and John Miller; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Sherry remained strong throughout her battle with cancer, and even in the end, she had found ways to smile and remain strong. She will always be remembered for her strength, stubbornness, and love for her family.
The family would like to thank Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home for helping with the arrangements. They would also like to thank the Cancer Center of Western Wisconsin in Frederic for always taking good care of Sherry while she was there for her treatments, and for her oncology team at the University of Minnesota and Minnesota Oncology, and lastly, St. Croix Hospice for helping to keep her comfortable at the end of her battle.
A celebration of life will be held in May for family and friends to remember Sherry.

Nicholas Harmon Coen - May 17, 1979 - March 28, 2024

Departed: 03/28/2024 (Webster)
Obituary Preview: Nicholas Harmon Coen, beloved father, fiancé, son, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle & friend, left this world unexpectedly on March 28, 2024 at the age of 44. He was brought into this world in St. Croix Falls, WI on May 17, 1979 to Susan Swanson & Dale Coen. Nick was baptized and
confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Falun, WI. He was raised in Grantsburg, WI by his mom & step-dad, Sue & Dean Faulhaber. Dean & Sue welcomed another son, David, in 1988. Nick loved & was so proud of his brother David & spoke often of his memories growing up taking care of his little brother and how much he loved to be goofy with David. Nick’s unwavering love for his extraordinary mom was commonly on his mind. Nick enjoyed playing golf with Dean & David, and also loved watching baseball with
Dean. Nick loved and was always grateful for Dean, saying he attributed to him being a wellrounded man. Nick also spent time in Frederic, WI with his father aka “old man”, Dale & step-mom, Jean, who came into his life in 1988, along with three wild step-sisters, Adrienne, Allison & Michelle. In 1990, Dale & Jean welcomed Nick’s baby brother, Arthur “Bud”. Nick was so proud of Bud & wanted him to have the best life, though always encouraging Bud’s shenanigans. Dale, Nick & Bud shared a special bond through hunting, mechanics, loud machines & going fast. Jean was Nick’s biggest fan during his hockey years, beaming (and screaming) with pride from the stands, and she was very special to Nick. He embraced his three step-sisters and loved &
spoke often of the memories he had growing up with them. He graduated from Grantsburg High School in 1997 and went on to pursue a year of schooling at UW-Platteville, which he decided was not for him and instead decided to gain real world experience. He spoke passionately about each of his positions throughout the years, the friends he made at each one & took immense pride in his work, spending several cumulative years leading teams of people and was a machinist by trade, most recently working for
Bikeman Performance in St. Croix Falls, WI. In 2001, he married Angela Bossart. During their 20-year marriage, in 2014, they received the most beautiful Christmas gift to grace Nick’s world, their daughter Aria J. She was Nick’s heart and the center of his universe. A memory that Nick spoke often of was him & Aria playing wolves in the field - representing their untamable nature, bravery & loyalty to one another. He loved to draw and spend time outside collecting rocks with Aria, teaching her something new every opportunity he had. He cherished & made the most of every moment he got to spend
with Aria. In 2023, he met the love of his life, Alexandria “Ali” Knutson. They became engaged and planned to get married in 2024. They were inseparable & made the most of every day, regularly dreaming of their future together, which was devastatingly cut short. Nick was an incredible
partner - supportive, compassionate, patient, loving & honest. He had a passion for music - playing saxophone in high school, playing bass guitar in the swing choir & in his band outside of school, working and managing at Guitar Center during his time living in Madison, WI, playing air guitar at the drop of a hat and talking about notes & rifs
anytime a song would play on the radio or at his request. He loved to race watercross, which was a passion he shared with his Dad, family & friends, sporting #150 from 1997-2001. He had to resort to RC cars, watching F1 racing & playing racing games for a period of time when he couldn’t be behind handlebars racing or driving a machine, but his need for speed was again fulfilled when his dream of owning a motorcycle came true in 2021 after finding the perfect one - his 2015 Indian Scout - as if it was built just for him. It didn’t stop there; he spent his first summer with Ali driving her 1968 Chevelle, gathering winks from the ladies and (never) doing burnouts for the guys, both of which thrilled him
immensely & always put a smile on his face. All throughout his life, Nick was a free-spirit. He embraced life and loved to be around his family & friends. He worked hard to support his family & was family-centric. He was fun to be around, always could put a smile on your face and was genuinely happy to see you. If he couldn’t be goofy & make you laugh, he didn’t feel like he was doing his job. He was full of stories and if you didn’t know your movie quotes, he would get you every time. Nick was a kid at heart. He loved kids and when they were around, he would often choose to play with the kids instead of the adults. He was kind to strangers, helping whomever he could the best way he could, most often lending an ear or the best advice he had to offer. He touched many lives &
forgave easily & would have wanted everyone to know how much he loved them. His beautiful smile and contagious laughter will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his daughter, Aria; fiancée, Ali; parents, Sue & Dean; father, Dale; brothers, David & Bud (Sara Franklin); step-sisters, Adrienne (Garrett) Lajoie, Allison (Patrick) Orent & Michelle Schrunk; step-grandmother Sandra Faulhaber; so many loving uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces,
nephews and friends; and lastly, Aria’s dog, Obi and Nick & Ali’s dog, Nova. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Anton “Tony” & Edith Swanson; stepgrandpa, Reinold Faulhaber; uncles, Richard Swanson, John Paul Faulhaber & Bill Java; aunt Sandra Swanson; twin cousins Jeremy & Jason Swanson; paternal grandparents, Mark & Roselle Coen; uncles, Myron “Mike”, Derald & Kenneth Coen; step-mom Jean Coen; cousins
Dylan & Jon David Coen.

David Ross Mott - August 14, 1941 - March 26, 2024

Departed: 03/26/2024 (Webster)
Obituary Preview: David "Dave" Ross Mott, age 82, a resident of Trade Lake, WI., passed away on MArch 26, 2024 at home with his loved ones by his side. Dave was born at home on August 14th, 1941, to Ross and Laura Mott, in Madge Township near Sarona, Wisconsin. He attended the Sarona Grade School and graduated from Spooner High School in 1959. While in high school and for a few years after, he drove a potato truck for West Lawn Farms. After high school he went on to school to be a machinist and later moved to Rockford, Illinois to work. A few years later he moved to Grantsburg and took a job at McNally's. It was during this time that he met his future wife, Linda Wicklund. They were married on September 28, 1968 and had two boys, Darryn and Dalen. Dave also worked for an organic fertilizer truck for Tony Swanson, did landscaping for a company in the twin cities and then worked for Paul Christensen's Machine Shop in Grantsburg, which later became Parker Hannifin.
Dave and Linda raised their family in Trade Lake, Wisconsin and spent their time together traveling, camping, gardening, mowing grass, maple syruping, and spending lots of time socializing with a close group of family and friends. Dave worked for Parker Hannifin until the age of 62 when he retired. During his 20 years of retirement, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cutting wood, reading, bird-watching, feeding wildlife, camping, 4-wheeling, and watching the Green Bay Packers. He especially enjoyed being a grandpa.
Dave learned to love fishing from his grandparents as a very little boy and fished every chance he could. He later became known for catching fish in places no one else could. Bass Lake became his favorite place to fish because it was quiet and peaceful. He taught himself how to play guitar as a teenager and loved singing and playing with his family and friends; he especially loved old country and bluegrass music. He was a wood-cutting fanatic up until just a few days before he died. Even after he quit burning wood himself, he cut wood for family and friends and for Interfaith Caregivers. He was an avid gardener for many years, growing many different kinds of vegetables as well as years of raspberry and strawberry bushes. He was especially proud of his potatoes and asparagus.
Dave always greeted everyone with a smile and a hug if you were the hugging kind. He was especially attentive in helping the elderly, disabled, or moms with young kids. He will be remembered for his story-telling, lush and bountiful vegetable gardens, and legendary fishing skills to name a few. He lived a full and happy life, and although he will be greatly missed, those who love him find comfort in knowing how happy he was to be reunited with his son and so many other friends and family that have gone before him.
He is survived by his wife Linda, his son Darryn (Sue), grandson Robert, brothers Byron and Dick (Inez) Brother-in laws Glenn (Diane) and David (Bonnie), nieces: Linda, Debbie, Judy, Edie, Carol, Peggy, and Marci, nephews: Dean and Daniel, and honorary grandchildren: Carson & Maya Allee, Brandon & Allison Peterson, and Carter Johnson.
