She was united in marriage to Arthur Nelson in 1970, he proceeded her in death.
She will be dearly missed by son, Dennis (Jean) Hembrey; grandchildren, Jon (Laurie) Hembrey & Margot (Jason) Mantle; 5 great grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Ralph Sawyer, Harold Sawyer, Eleanor McFall, Ruth Behrens, Grace Warner, Altia Van Cleave & Alma Beck.
Dorothy worked in the commissary at Chanute Air Force Base in her 20’s. She was an artist at heart, oil painting and pottery work, even had her own kiln for a time. She worked at the Danville History Museum, judged Art Contests for the Hoopeston Sweet Corn Festival, Arthur owned the Lorraine Theater in Hoopeston for years.

Obituary Preview: Paul M. Arford, 79, of Danville passed away on October 12, 2018 at Carle Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. Born on March 8, 1939 in Henning, IL, the son of Wilbur and Inez (Vickers) Arford, he was first married to Beverly (Spain) Stewart, with whom he had his two sons. In October of 1979, he married Doris Arford, who preceded him in death in 2012.
A graduate of Henning High School, Paul enlisted in the Army and was a proud Vietnam Veteran. Following his discharge, he worked 34 years as a welder at then Bohn Aluminum / Heatcraft until his retirement in 1999.
Paul was devoted to his family and friends. Probably perceived by most as a man of few words, Paul demonstrated his thoughtfulness and consideration for others through his actions. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix and he found relaxation in completing countless custom projects built in his garage. Consistent with his character, he focused on function with the results of his projects reflecting the artistic quality of his craftmanship. When he wasn’t helping others, Paul had a few hobbies. An avid fisherman, he especially enjoyed fishing trips to Canada with his son. And, while he was a competitive golfer, the stories from his golf outings usually focused on the time he spent with his friends. In more recent years he also found much enjoyment in his travels with close friends. But, undoubtedly, his favorite pastime was watching his grandchildren play sports. He never missed a game. GO BLUEDEVILS!
Paul is survived by his two sons, Greg (Omekia) Arford of Bismarck, IL; Darren (Monique) Arford of Georgetown, IL; three step-daughters, Sharon Beninato of Grimes, IA; Jean (Jon) Bright of Tilton, IL; and Nancy (Dan) Brown of Danville, IL; seven grandchildren, Ashley (Ryan) Romero, Jordan (Ross Caraker) Arford, Colten Arford; Justin and Lindsey Brown; Breely and Hannah Arford; two special great-grandchildren, Grayson and Myles Romero; brother, Jack (Barb) Arford of Andover, MN; sister, Janet (Jack) Mooberry of Peoria, IL; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Hussong of Mattoon, IL; and Barbara (Gene) Minder of Lake Forest, CA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother-in-law, Norman Hussong.
Paul will be sadly missed by family and friends. A heartfelt recognition of his kindness and contribution to others will be addressed through a Celebration of Life on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, with Bruce Thornsbough officiating. Burial will be in Potomac Cemetery in Potomac, IL with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 210. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Norma was a very giving and selfless person to anyone she met. She loved to spend time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be missed dearly.

Dan will be deeply missed by his wife of 53 years, Jane, two daughters, Danelle Gualdoni of Danville and Patti (John) Jansky of Danville, twin brother, Dennis (Ronda) Gualdoni of Mt. Vernon, IL and brother, Bruce (Sharon) Gualdoni of Fairfield, IL, grandchildren; Katie and Sam Henk, Jett, Drew and Gage Jansky.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dan enjoyed many sports, but golf was his passion. He loved the game and playing it with his friends. Dan could be counted on to be at every game and sporting event that his grandkids played. He drove them to practices and could be seen wearing a team shirt and “official” team hat. Dan was the best at making people smile, laugh and feel good about themselves. He was a gentleman and he taught his family, through his example, of how people should be treated. Dan loved his family. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather and would go to the ends of the earth for all of them. Above all he loved Jane.

Gladys will be deeply missed by her two sons, Lewis (Judy) Farnsworth of Danville, Bill (Kathy) Farnsworth of Tampa, FL; three daughters, Carol Zimmerman of Westville, Donna Johnson of Charlotte, NC and Cathy Fink of Danville; one brother, Norman Hughes of Glenelg East, Adelaide, South Australia; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband; son, David; her parents, brother, Ernest and one great grandson, Jason.
Her life was spent as a homemaker and raising their six children, but also enjoyed quilting, collecting salt and pepper shakers and gardening. Most of all she was a big Cubs fan.

Marvin will be deeply missed by his children; Pam Hacquet of Danville, Karl (Cheryl) Thornsbrough of Oakwood, Kurt (Debbie) Thornsbrough of Catlin, Marvin Thornsbrough of Danville, and Amy (Scott) Eisenhauer of Danville, one brother, Tom (Ruth) Thornsbrough, nine grandchildren - Tammy Klugow, Cheri Hancock, Blake Thornsbrough, Drew Thornsbrough, Nikki Thornsbrough, Marc Amore, Alexis Julian, Alyssa Julian, and Kirsten Thornsbrough, ten great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers; Erville and Carl Thornsbrough and two sisters; Mary Ellen Eaton and Thelma Smith.
Marvin served in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sargent from 1944-1946 and again from 1952-1962. He worked as a grain operator at Lauhoff for 32 years before his retirement in 1996. Marvin loved his children and was always involved in the things they were doing. He spent time playing games with mom and doing whatever she told him to do. He enjoyed his every day meals at Cahill’s, visiting the church and school, and watching the Weather Channel, sports, news, and game shows. Marvin was a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danville. He wore many hats at Immanuel including; Elder, Communion Assistant, Usher, School Board, Choir and Men’s Bible Study member.

Eleanor (affectionately known as Ellie) was born January 2, 1934 in Joliet, the second youngest daughter of Harry W. Powell and Eva A. (McClatchey) Powell lovingly blessed into a family of ten brothers and sisters. She was at various times a homemaker, waitress (Steak 'n Shake), and the owner-operator of a V.A. shelter care home serving primarily vets from WWI and WWII. Eleanor and Monty Jenkins were married on May 19, 1951 in Watseka, Illinois. Over the years they resided in several homes in the Westville-Danville area. Among her daily interests were BINGO, reading, puzzle books, and particularly family holidays. Monty and Eleanor were frequent customers at several area restaurants and donut shops. Her homemade specialty, pineapple upside down cake will be particularly missed!
She is survived by one son; Jamey L. Jenkins (Mary), grandchildren; Laura, Elizabeth, and Jessica as well as six great-grandchildren; Kailee, Jordan, and Nathan Eldridge, Isla, Veda, and Finn Morgan.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years in 2011, twin sons; Ronnie W. Jenkins and Lonnie W. Jenkins, an infant daughter, and one grand-daughter; Amber Denise Jenkins Eldridge.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, with Pastor Teri Shane officiating. Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 2:00 – 3:00 PM at the funeral home.

Also surviving him are his daughter, Valerie Ratkowski-Mainland of Franksville, WI; sons, Jeff (Donna) Ratkowski of Plano, TX and Paul (Kim) Ratkowski of Leonard, TX; grandchildren, Ryan (Rebecca) Ratkowski of Plano, TX, Kristina (Darren) Havemann of Spring, TX, Sean Mainland of Racine, WI, Brooke Mainland of Troy, MI; Step-grandchildren, Taylor (Jeff) Baumann of McKinney, TX, Stockton (Taylor) Gallagher of Fayetteville, AR and Michael Gallagher of Allen, TX; great-grandchildren, Luke, Tucker, and Zoey Ratkowski, Katelyn and Dylan Havemann, Step great-grandchildren, Palmer Baumann, and Harley and McKinleigh Gallagher.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Harry attended Northwestern University and served in the United States Navy Seabees from 1942-1946. He was a sales manager for Esco Corporation before his retirement. He was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church and the Danville American Legion. Harry was a Red Vest Volunteer for several years at the Danville VA and the Danville Hospital. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, crossword puzzles and watching the Chicago Bulls.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 1303 N. Walnut Street, Danville, IL 61832. Father Bo Schmitt will officiate. Harry will be laid to rest at Spring Hill Cemetery Mausoleum 301 East Voorhees, Danville, IL with Military Rites conducted by Georgetown American Legion Post 203. Visitation will be Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 North Vermilion Street, Danville, IL.

Survivors include his parents; Steven and Ruth Ann Pratt of Danville, IL, his brother; Christopher (Amy Beth) Pratt of Danville, IL, four nephews; Quenton, Carter, Kolten and Keaton Pratt, all of Danville, IL, as well as several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
Jason is preceded in death by his Maternal Grandparents; Max and Dorothy Scarlett and his Paternal Grandparents; Warren and Betty Pratt.
Jason was a well-known tattoo artist in the area and beyond for over 20 years. He had owned two shops in Champaign and worked at various other shops in the area, the most recent being Iron Tide in Danville, IL. Jason won many competitions at various tattoo conventions across the country and had several pieces of his works published in books. Hundreds of people are proud to wear his works of art. Jason was also a very talented painter. In his free time, Jason loved to fish at Lake Mingo and at Homer Lake. He especially loved fishing in the ocean on several family vacations. Jason was also an avid coin collector and enjoying trips to Indianapolis and Champaign to coin shops with his nephew Quenton.
Jason was the best son, brother and friend you could ever have. He was loyal, dedicated and always stuck to his convictions to the end. His friends and family enjoyed his sarcastic sense of humor, but he was always very humble and never needed anyone’s approval for what he did or believed in.
A Celebration of life for Jason will be held on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, with Bill Ludington officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the funeral home. He was born on March 24, 1949 in Christopher, IL the son of Jessie L. and Myra D. (Silkwood) Johnston.
Roy married Jo Anne Miller on August 31, 1968 at the Jamaica Methodist Church in Jamaica, IL.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Anne Johnston of Danville, IL; daughters, Michelle L. Lawhorn of Tilton, IL, and Becki R. Wissel of Pekin, IL; brother, Gary (Patricia) Johnston of Avon, IN; four grandchildren, Nick, Heather, Madeline, and Logan; one great grandson, Jordan; 14 brothers and sisters in law; 16 nieces and nephews; and 16 great nieces and nephews.
Preceding Roy in death include both of his parents; brother in law, Bill Miller; and nephew, Brian Spicer.
Roy served in the United States Army for 2 years in the 3rd Armored Division and was overseas in Germany for 1 year. He was employed at the VA Hospital for 30 years as well as farmed part time with his brother in law, Bill Miller, for 15 years.
One of his favorite pastimes was playing ping pong with the Indianola Boys Club. He loved being outdoors gardening and mowing and listening to country music. In his opinion the only real baseball team was the St. Louis Cardinals.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, September 28, 2018 at the Danville National Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Aaron Rohde and Pastor Craig Roller. Military Rites will be performed by the Catlin American Legion. Visitation will be held the evening prior on Thursday, September 27th from 4 to 7 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. Memorial donations may be made to the Danville Cancer Center or a charity of the donor’s choice.

William is preceded in death by his parents, wife; brothers, Terry Winslow, Lester Winslow; sisters, Wanda Jones and Linda Winslow.
William was a master of all trades. He enjoyed building model cars and trains, paint by numbers and playing cards with his friends. The most important thing in Williams life was his family and he truly loved spending time chatting with his brothers and sisters.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2pm on Monday September 24, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1pm to 2pm at the funeral home.

Also preceding her in death include daughter, Lori Page; and brother, Ralph Korris.
Carol leaves behind her husband, Donald Page; one son, Garret (Pam) Page of Nason, IL; siblings, Steven (Linda) Korris of Kirkwood, MO and Lynn Manning of Benld, IL; one grandchild, Gabriel Page; and a “Bestest Friend” Aurelia Hudgens of Mt. Vernon.
Carol was talented in many things such as cross stitching, charcoal pencil drawing, and oil painting. She loved art and loved to create art. Her cross-stitch picture of an eagle took “Best of Show” at a competition sponsored by the General Federation of Women’s Club in Springfield, IL. Carol also loved playing the piano and organ. She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis years ago which forced her to give up many of her hobbies. She has now broken the chain that has confined her to her wheelchair and can create art again.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. Officiating will be Pastor Michael Heidle. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery in Danville. Visitation will be held the evening prior on Friday, September 21st from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Lutheran Cemetery Fund.

Kathleen was raised on the outskirts of Westville, Illinois. She attended Westville grade schools and graduated from Georgetown High School in 1954. She was active in choral activities during her high school years and sang for many local venues. She worked at a soda fountain at Kresge and R & S Printing prior to her marriage. Kathleen married the love of her life, William S. Pitlik, Sr. on August 25, 1956 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Westville, Illinois. He preceded her in death in November 2017. She was a stay at home mom who raised six children. She led a very active life by being a very active parent who seldom missed her children’s activities. She was a member of the PTA and St. Joseph Catholic Church choir. She was a very devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved doing laundry, cooking for her family, singing and listening to music.
Survivors include his two daughters, Angela Mitchell and Brenda (Jake Spain) Clark; three sons, John (Julia) Pitlik, William (Cindy) Pitlik Jr., and Vince (Jill) Pitlik; grandchildren, Aaron Pitlik, Brandi (Nate) Brinkley, Dustin Pitlik, Amy (Michael) Esteves, Melissa (Justin) Divan, Robert (Raquel Webber) Mitchell, Thomas Clark II, Cathleen Clark, Westin Pitlik, Tyler (Candice and TJ) Brandon; and six step-grandchildren Katherine, Ronald, Sara, Thomas, Kelley, Robin; 28 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eileen Golcynski of Georgetown and Paulette (Butch) Young of Edwardsville; and many nieces and nephews.

Obituary Preview: Betty Lou Snyder, 87, a beloved wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother passed from this earth on Monday, September 10, 2018.
She was born on February 28, 1931 in Paris, IL to Charles “Dutch” and Hazel Snyder.
Betty was one of nine children, 6 of who preceded her in death; Charles Jr., Mildred, Wanita, Carl, Lela and Dave. On December 24th, 1949 Betty married Charles Edward Snyder of Danville, IL for 68 blessed years. Betty and Chuck worked side by side at Esco Corporation for 26 years before retiring in 1993.
The Snyder family, a close-knit family, would spend hours together camping on holiday weekends and monthly get-togethers. Betty was an active member of East Park Church of Christ in Danville and for years teaching Thursday school to the little children of the church. She loved playing cards, baking, sewing, camping and crafts. Many good times were had spending time with children, great grandchildren and family singing and enjoying each other’s company.
Surviving Betty are her husband, Charles; sisters, Wilma Jean (Sterling) and Beulah (Kemp); brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Willa Snyder, Steve and Marilyn (Snyder) Hubbard, Andrew and Patsy (Snyder) Warren; children, Guy, Denise Snyder, Trudy (Snyder) Pickett and Michael Pickett; grandchildren, Angela (Pickett) Van Slyke, husband, Mark; Douglas Snyder, Bobby and Amie (Snyder) Greene, and Nathan Pickett, adopted grandson Timothy Hashko. In June of 1968, Christie married Frank Mulholland (Karen) in San Juan, Puerto Rico. They divorced in 2002. Together they raised 5 children, Melissa (Towner) Clark, Frank (Molly) Mulholland, Royce Mulholland, Mary (John) Mason, and Natalie Mulholland. Christie was most happy when she was spending time with her family. She was able to help raise each of her ten grandchildren and was thrilled to do so.
Christie loved spending time in the garden. She enjoyed sewing and would often make clothes for her children and grandchildren. Being a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs, she rarely missed the chance to watch their games. Christie was considered wise and patient by the many people who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Although she will be deeply missed, Christie leaves behind a legacy. She set an example of kindness and peace that will be carried on by the family who cherished her.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents.
Donald was a graduate of Sulphur Springs, OH High School, served in the United States Army, and a 1957 graduate of Ohio State with a PhD in Agronomy. He was a member of the St. James United Methodist Church, the Elks Lodge, Danville Noon Rotary. He enjoyed spending his freetime woodworking, hunting, fishing, playing Bridge and a former member of the Lakeview Bridge Club. Donald was proud of his Alma Mater as an avid “Buckeye” fan. Donald retired from Lebanon Chemical where he was an Agronomist for 36 years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 17, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home, 3940 North Vermilion Street, Danville, IL. Reverend Randall Robinson will officiate. Also surviving are four children Leslie (Michael) Pouilliard, Lori (Dave) Parker, and Kristen (Eldon) Hayn, all of Oakwood, IL, and John (Heather) Covington of rural Fithian, IL. Eleven grandchildren, Erin (Bryan) Mooney, Mitchell Pouilliard, Ryan Parker, Trent Parker, Molly Parker, Christopher Johnson, Abby Johnson, Bo Hayn, Alexandra Rodriguez, Lauren Covington and Allie Covington. One great grandchild, Owen Johnson. Two brothers, Leamon (Lois) Covington of Hot Springs Village, AK and Doug (Marilyn) Covington of Fairmount, IL. And his best friend ‘Jackson’.
He was preceded in death his parents and his brother in-law and golf buddy Tom Fletcher.
Dean retired from General Motors Central Foundry in Tilton in 1991 and later worked for Chem-Cast in Danville. He served on the board of the American Foundrymen’s Society and served 11 years on the Oakwood Unit 76 Board of Education. He was one of the founding members of the Oakwood Men’s Club. Dean was an avid golfer but most of all he was a good father to his children, a good papaw to his grandchildren and a good husband to his wife.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. Cynthia Sue Scarlett was born September 27, 1965, in Danville, Illinois, the daughter of George M. “Bud” Scarlett and Margaret M. “Punky” Pickering Scarlett.
Cyndy is survived by her father George “Bud” Scarlett; daughter Anna L. Dancey; brother Timothy (Shelly Larson) Scarlett; two nephews, Corey (Mattie Rose) Scarlett and Ryan Scarlett. Also surviving; Susanne Dancey of Tucson, Arizona; several aunts, uncles, and special cousins, including Tammy Pickering and Misty Pickering who inspired and motivated her to bravely face the battle of cancer.
Preceding her in death: mother; Margaret “Punky” Scarlett; grandparents Max & Dorothy Scarlett and Frank “Elmer” & Anna “Vi” Pickering; fiancé Richard Dancey.
Educated at Danville Lutheran School and Danville High School, Cyndy graduated in 1983 and continued her studies at Danville Area Community College (DACC) where she received her Associates Degree. She also is a graduate of Danville Beauty School. She was an employee of District 118 for 12 years, with her last assignment at Garfield School for 10 years, until June 2017 when she was diagnosed with cancer.
Cyndy enjoyed a close relationship with her family and treasured the memories of numerous family trips with her cousins, aunts and uncles, including her teenage Florida spring break; Caribbean cruise; Pigeon Forge, TN; Amish Acres in Nappanee, IN; as well as large holiday gatherings. She strived to maintain a close bond with her young daughter while visiting American Girl Doll and attending Anna’s favorite concerts in Chicago. Cyndy was fascinated with the food/cooking channels and, together, mother and daughter enjoyed experimenting with new recipes (we remember the Irish soda bread).
Cyndy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was christened as an infant, and a celebration of her life will be held on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 2:00 PM in Trinity Lutheran Church, 824 E. Main Street, Danville, with Pastor Kent Tibben officiating. She will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2018 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville. Memorials in her memory may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Danville Lutheran School.
