Luis Francisco Floren - March 04, 1948 - February 13, 2024

Departed: 02/13/2024 (Hollywood)
Obituary Preview: Luis Francisco Florén March 4, 1948 - February 13, 2024
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our one of a kind, Papi.
Luis Francisco Florén, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in Hollywood, Florida on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.
Luis was the first son of Alina Romero Florén and Luis Florén Lozano. He was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and spent his childhood and adolescence in Spain and Colombia.
Luis was the most kind, smart, cheerful, humble, noble and silly person, with childlike wonder and curiosity about everything.
Luis is survived by his wife of 44 years, Olinda (Caraballo), his daughter Maria Byrd (husband Joey Byrd), his daughter Maria Elena Floren, and his son Luis Jose Floren, as well as three granddaughters, Isabella Byrd, Amaya Byrd, and Leilana Byrd. He also leaves behind his 3 younger siblings, Angelica Florén, Marisol Florén, and Manolo Florén, and countless nieces, nephews and cousins, and other family members.
In 1972, Luis graduated from Northrop Institute of Technology in Inglewood, California, where he studied Aircraft Maintenance Engineering. He worked as an engineer at numerous airlines for over 48 years. Luis met his wife, Olinda, in Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela, while working as a Maintenance Manager for Turismo Margarita, where he was responsible for the maintenance on a mixed fleet of Boeing 929 Jetfoils, high speed ferries and hovercraft. After they married in 1980, they moved to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where he began work at Dominicana Airlines. They moved to Miami, Florida in 1986 to work for Eastern Airlines, then Southern Air Transport, and finally to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1995 to work at US Airways (later American Airlines) where he was a Senior Engineer, responsible for the development of structural repairs and technical support for aircraft. In early 2020, he retired from American Airlines after 24 years of service. Throughout his career, he traveled often around the world, advising on the development of structural repairs for airplanes where needed. He even helped manage the retrieval of the Miracle on the Hudson River airplane in 2009.
Luis was Papi to many and never met a stranger. He had an endless list of hobbies, interests, and passions. Luis’s biggest lifelong passion was the ocean. He loved scuba diving, free diving, spear fishing, snorkeling, swimming, fishing, and boats. He had a fishing company in the Dominican Republic. He had multiple boat projects throughout his life and was most recently working on two boat projects with his son, to whom he passed down the same passion.
Luis was a master of making primitive weapons like slingshots, blow-darts, mini-cannons, catapults, and bows and arrows. He loved hunting with bows and arrows and spearfishing. In the 90s, while visiting his father in law’s farm in Venezuela, he shot a caiman alligator in a pond with a bow and arrow. In 2010, he speared the biggest pompano fish while snorkeling on the beaches of St. Thomas with his son, then the family had it cooked and ate it. He once picked up an octopus on the beach shores in Puerto la Cruz, Venezuela and wanted to grill it and eat it but all the kids protested, so he let it go.
Luis called himself a “citizen of the world”. He loved traveling, and visited at least 28 countries all over the Americas, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia throughout his life, many with his wife, Olinda, and some with his children.
Luis had a passion for photography, and he used to develop his own photographs. He also did underwater photography, and once worked as a photographer for an anthropologist in Haiti. His photographs were later part of exhibits at the Museum of the Man in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Luis was a world and culture enthusiast. He loved sushi and martial arts, primitive weapons, and exotic instruments.
Luis loved all things science, space and nature, and science fiction.
Luis was always busy with multiple projects at once, working on numerous boats, houses, cars, home projects or just making toy boats for his granddaughters. One of his granddaughter’s favorite memories with him is building a squirrel trap with him in his backyard, then catching one! They eventually let it go.
Luis enjoyed gardening, planting vegetables and herbs and doing yard projects with Olinda. He loved picking fresh mint from the garden for his delicious mojitos. He loved to bartend his mixed drinks for family and friends when they came to visit.
Papi was a Master Jedi, Ninja, Sensai, builder and creator of all things, and fixer of any problem. Papi was the head of our family, being the oldest of 4 siblings, that he loved deeply. He was and is our leader, captain, hero, teacher, and Mr. Fix It. He was the best husband, Papi, tio, hermano and friend anyone could have. We hold his memory in our hearts and his spirit carries on in his wife, siblings, children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
A Celebration of Luis’s Life will be held by his family in Charlotte, to be scheduled soon. There will also be another Celebration of Life with family and friends in the Dominican Republic, by the sea.

Patricia A Decillis - April 09, 1944 - August 30, 2023

Departed: 08/30/2023 (Hollywood)
Obituary Preview: Patricia A Decillis, 79 passed away peacefully the morning of August 30, 2023 in Sunrise, Florida. Born to Joseph and Isabel Mahoney on April 9, 1944 in Long Island City, NY, Pat was a woman with a great
sense of humor, unwavering determination in business and a strong appreciation of family and friends. Pat will be remembered as a loving, caring mother to her son Dean Decillis, his wife AnnMari and their daughter, Brooke. In addition, she loved her daughter Dianne Stemmerman, son in law Sean, and her grandchildren Nicklaus and Delaney. Mema loved her grandchildren with all her heart and she was proud of her adult children! Pat is survived by her sisters, Carolyn Mahoney LaRosa and Barbara Riccardi. The sisters, along with Cindy Crowley, traveled well together. Birthdays were spent visiting spas in Sonoma, hoisting a few in bars in San Francisco, playing slot machines in Las Vegas, and visiting the Tree at Christmas time in
Rockefeller Center, but the happiest place for Pat was her time spent on Sanibel Island in Florida. She could be with her ‘sissies’ and also get to see her children and grandchildren. She felt relaxed. She felt content! Pat graduated with a business diploma from Long Island City High School in Queens, New York. After relocating to southern Florida with her husband Tony, Pat become a top producer at Kenny Rogers Real Estate, Alice Edwards Real Estate, ReMAX Power Pro and Keller Williams. It was through real estate that Pat developed some of her closest relationships that endured to this day, including lifelong friends Lee Jenkins, Darleen Saalwachter and Susan Power. Susan Power became another sister to Pat. They worked together, played together and supported each other in every way for years. More recently, Susan and Jim Power would take Pat up to Cape Cod. Pat loved the raw clams and those lamb lollipops! Susan was instrumental in seeing Pat through these last difficult months, and provided support, guidance and comfort, as well as song, prayer and fun… Denise Ireland Miller and Adel Alonso were Pat’s right hand business partners. The Decillis Team thrived in real estate but they also provided Pat with love and support as she provided them with wisdom and
guidance. Denise was her “second” daughter and Adel, her “second “son.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Nelly Masias and Maureen Cahir, her care givers.
They cared deeply for Pat and she grew to love them both. They were reliable, capable and kind. As one friend said, Pat was very easy to love and if you invited her to spend some time with you, you
would enjoy her company, her energy and her fun loving spirit. In honor of Pat, a memorial service will be held at a later date in the fall. Please keep in touch with the family for further details regarding the service arrangements. If you would like to donate to a charity in her name, here are a few she supported: St. Judde Children’s Hospital, The Red Cross and the Lewy
Body Dementia Organization. As we bid farewell to Pat, we take solace in knowing she found peace beyond this world. May her kind
soul find eternal rest, and may her memory bring comfort and strength to those who mourn her loss.
You will be missed.

Bonnie Aillet - March 20, 1948 - May 22, 2023

Departed: 05/22/2023 (Hollywood)
Obituary Preview: In loving memory of our Mother, Bonnie Anne Aillet.
We write today with memories and tears, not of grief, but of joy as our Mother would prefer. Bonnie was a person who took on the world, and questioned it. She questioned the purpose of the universe, and her purpose within it. It is here where Bonnie found solace, in learning, loving, and embracing Jehovah God.
Born to the late Cajun Queen Celeste, and Calvin "King" Aillet, she began her journey with her brother Paul, and sister Marie in Louisiana. While her roots were there, she ended up exploring the United States, and in her later years, the world. From Colorado where she raised her four kids (Rachel, Kathleen, David, and Marissa), to Senegal, where she shared her faith with others, Bonnie was able to experience this place we call Earth uniquely, and extensively.
As a mother, Bonnie was passionate about her children, and their education. Whether it was writing short stories, or volunteering for RIF (Reading is Fundamental), she encouraged all of her children to chase their imaginations, and to constantly be learning.
One of her signature moves was tell us to look up a word in the dictionary when we asked about something we had not yet encountered. It made in impact and set the stage for our own explorations. Academics were certainly important in her mind, but equally important was imagination. Bonnie inspired all of us to chase our imagination wherever it led us. Her love knew no boundaries, and her children truly were a source the ultimate source of joy in her life (when they weren’t busy causing frustration). Even in those moments, she was a teacher, encouraging us to be patient, by exhibiting it herself.
Travel was Bonnie’s passion. She placed her ambitions to see, feel, and experience the world on pause while she raised her kids, but it was this that became her joy once again as her children became adults.
A meticulous journaler and a gifted storyteller, Bonnie had a way with words that captivated. Her stories were windows into a vibrant imagination, and her ability to create vivid worlds on paper helped all of us to IMAGINE. Through her writing, she showed us how to imagine places, inspiring us to dream and embrace our own individual creativity.
A strong, independent woman, Bonnie embodied resilience and determination. With unwavering courage, she faced life's challenges head-on, overcoming obstacles with grace, tenacity, and faith. Her unwavering spirit and unyielding strength will forever be an inspiration to those whose lives she touched. We celebrate the life of Bonnie Anne Aillet, and reminisce with joy, thankful of the impact she had on us
