Russell E. Saueressig - February 18, 1937 - March 23, 2024

Departed: 03/23/2024 (Plymouth)
Obituary Preview: Russell E Saueressig, 87, of Random Lake, passed away on Saturday March 23, 2024, at the Azura Memory Care facility in Brookfield, WI.
Russell was born on February 18, 1937, son of the late Ervin and Mildred (Held) Saueressig and was raised on a dairy farm in the rural countryside outside of Batavia, WI. This upbringing instilled the values of hard work, perseverance, a strong faith, and a reverence for nature that pervaded his life.
His educational journey began in a one room classroom in the Town of Scott and continued at Random Lake High School, where he graduated with the class of 1954. His interest in education and love of agriculture led him to pursue higher education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture and Education in 1958, laying the foundation for a lifelong vocation devoted to educating young minds. He later earned his Master of Science degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1973. During these years, Russell's spirit of duty and honor were also exemplified by his service in the Air Force National Guard. He was honorably discharged in 1961.
Russell's career in education spanned more than four decades and touched countless lives. He began teaching vocational agriculture at Chenoa High School in Illinois, eventually finding his way back to Wisconsin teaching in the Random Lake and Northern Ozaukee School Districts for more than 10 years. He spent about 8 years in various administrative positions in the Port Washington School District before returning to his passion of teaching in the Plymouth School District for 18 years before his retirement in 2000. Russell's influence resonated far and wide, instilling in his students a love for learning, a strong work ethic, and a sense of responsibility that would guide them throughout their lives.
Russell embarked on a journey of love and companionship when he exchanged vows with his beloved wife Jane on September 6, 1958. They were happily married for nearly 46 years before her unexpected passing on March 29, 2004. Most of those years were spent together raising their four children on a hobby farm in rural Ozaukee County. Though Jane's unexpected passing left a void in Russell's heart, he found solace and companionship once again when he married Maxine in 2008.
Beyond the classroom, Russell found joy in his passions. An avid fisherman, he sought refuge in many trips to northern Wisconsin and Canada, where he forged unforgettable memories with family and friends. He also enjoyed reading, writing, playing table tennis, gardening, Bible study and spending time with family and friends. His deep faith was the cornerstone of his life, reflected in his active involvement in church activities, teaching, and choir directing.
Music was a constant source of joy for Russell, who shared his voice through his participation in the college Glee Club, barbershop quartets, and church choirs. He grew up playing the accordion, and his playing brought warmth and laughter to family gatherings and other events.
Russell cherished his role as a loving father and devoted husband, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of his family. Russell leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will endure through the memories of those who knew and cherished him. He is survived by his wife Maxine, his beloved children Renee (Isidro) Castillo, Jeff (Ruth) Saueressig, Paul (Gina) Saueressig, Katheen (Joe) Rolfes, and his cherished 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
He is also survived by his beloved sister Carol (Raetz), his wonderful brothers Dennis and Bruce Jackson, sister in-laws Pam and Pat Jackson and Mary Ann (Todd) Pollpeter as well as cherished extended family members. Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Mildred, and his beloved wife, Jane.
