Born on April 9, 1945, to the late James Joseph Campbell and Julia Katherine Campbell, Joseph’s life was a testament to the enduring power of love, loyalty, and service.
He was the cherished husband of Laura Elizabeth “Betsy” Campbell for over 54 years. Their bond was a beacon of enduring love and companionship. As a father, his devotion was unwavering. He nurtured and cared for Christine (Anthony) Zierden and Joseph M. Campbell II with steadfast love. His legacy lives on in his grandchildren: Evan Joseph Lipps, Keira E. Lipps, Casper Zierden, and Bo Zierden.
Joseph was a proud patriot who served his country with honor in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned home and pursued higher education at Xavier University. He later retired from a successful career in furniture sales.
A devout Catholic, Joseph’s faith was a guiding light in his life. He was a loyal husband, a proud father, and a doting grandfather. His life was a testament to the power of love, loyalty, and faith, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Joseph was the brother of James William Campbell II, Linda Alcorn, Christine Neville, and the late Margaret, Judith, and Amy. His family ties were strong, and he cherished the bonds he shared with his siblings.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at  BLUE ASH, Strawser Funeral Home, 9503 Kenwood Rd, Blue Ash, OH 45242, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024 at 10:00 am., at St. Columban, 894 Oakland Rd, Loveland, OH 45140. Joseph will be laid to rest in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Montgomery.

Anna Ruth Young - September 08, 1930 - May 12, 2024

Obituary Preview: Anna Ruth Young, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, returned home to her Heavenly Father Sunday, May 12, 2024. Anna passed away peacefully on Mother’s Day; a day she spent with family and loved ones by her side, expressing their love, gratitude, and appreciation.
Born Anna Ruth Phipps on September 8, 1930, in Wayne County, Kentucky, to Reverend Henry Ephraim Phipps and Sarah (nee Coffey) Phipps, she grew up in Muncie, Indiana. Anna was married to Owen D. Young, a World War II Army Veteran, for 63 years. Together they raised their sons, Warren, Douglas, Michael, and David Young. Anna relied heavily on her faith in God as she raised her four boys and was known for finding humor and joy, with a twinkle in her eye, in even the lowest places. Anna enjoyed her church family and singing in the choir. She cast the light of Jesus Christ onto everyone who was blessed to know her.
In addition to Anna’s love for the people around her, she loved being outside surrounded by nature, especially her beautiful sunflowers and roses. Anna spent much of her time tending to her many gardens, fruit trees, and house plants. Anna showed her love to those around her with her homemade apple butter, made with apples from her own tree, which she handed out generously. Anna had an affinity for care giving, whether it was her flowers, those around her, or her precious pug, Lulu.
She is survived by three sons, Warren (Terry) Young, Douglas (Kate) Young, and Warren Co Commissioner David (Kristie) Young , brother Andrew (Shirleen) Phipps, grandchildren Amy (Chris) Federle, Melanie (James) Rodgers, Matt Young, Julie Young, Kristin (Zane) Wilson, Courtney (John) Couvillion, Kinsey Young, and Kaitlin (Brittney) Young. She is also survived by her 10 great-grandchildren and countless extended family and friends. Anna’s life revolved around her family and friends and her unconditional love, care, and devotion will be deeply missed. Anna is preceded in death by her husband, Owen D. Young, son Michael Young, and several brothers and sisters.

After graduating from Sycamore School, Jeanette attended the University of Cincinnati , graduating in 1973. She worked at Children’s Hospital until retirement. She was a strong lover of animals, particularly dogs of which she had many throughout her life. She volunteered for several years at the animal rescue Save Our Animal Foundation. Until her illness, she was very active in Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church. Jeanette would do anything to help people in need. She had many friends from all over the country. She will be greatly missed by her parents, cousins and friends. Rest in peace, Jeanette.

Debbie graduated from Reading High School and Cincinnati Metropolitan with a degree in Accounting. In 2020, she retired from Industrial Controls after a long career as an inside sales rep. In her retirement she spent her time yuckin’ it up on the phone with her friends and family, watching murder mysteries and continuing to fuel her love for knickknacks and all things “dollar store”. Debbie was a loving mother to  two children and a doting aunt to many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, all of whom were her pride and joy!
Debbie was predeceased by her mother JoAnn, father Jim and brother Jimmy. She is survived by her children Paige Lawson and Blake DuBose, two sisters Susan Winkle and Barbara Dennon, and brother Bill Morgan (Jennifer).
Visitation will be held at BLUE ASH - Strawser Funeral Home 9503 Kenwood Rd Blue Ash, OH 45242 on May 10, 2024 from 4:00-6:00pm. Betty Sue Sams - June 03, 1940 - May 01, 2024

Obituary Preview: Betty Sue (Shelton) Sams was born June3, 1940 to James Thomas ( J. T.) and Fieda Faye (Hemry) Shelton in Ray County, South of Polo, Missouri. She enjoyed growing up on the farm with her four siblings being thankful for parents who taught them Christian principals. Family was always important to Betty. She received Jesus as her Savior at a youth camp when she was thirteen. She was active in the 4H Club during elementary and high school years, and accumulated a  impressive collection of blue ribbons along with other ribbons and awards. She was a 1958 graduate of Polo, High School. She married Charles Sams on July 31, 1960. Her first job was working for Hallmark Card Co. in Kansas City, Mo. She later worked as a classroom monitor of student achievement for Liberty Christian Academy in North Olmsted, OH. Betty was recognized for twenty years of service as church secretary and custodian by Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cincinnati, OH when she retired in 2002.
Through the years, she was a faithful Bible teacher in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and Children's Church. She taught classes from preschool through youth girls, but especially enjoyed teaching 3rd and 4th graders. For many years she read through the Bible in a year, and more than once in some years. Betty enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and taking trips with them. At different times she, also, cared for five foster children.
Betty was very involved in missions. She presented in numerous churches and on video a first person monologue on the life of Lottie Moon, a 40 year missionary to China. She visited Lottie Moon's home place in Virginia, and the church in China where Lottie served as a missionary. Betty and Chuck were appointed as missionaries by the Home Mission Board of the SBC in 1971, serving in the Cleveland, OH area for four years. She and Chuck were, also, appointed as missionaries by the North American Mission Board of the SBC in 2000, serving in the Cincinnati, OH area for eleven years. She served on volunteer mission teams in Kenya, Russia, Israel and Costa Rica. She served on evangelism outreach teams in Orlando, New Orleans, San Antonio, Los Vegas, Salt Lake City, Indianapolis, Phoenix, Nashville and Louisville.  Betty loved to travel and enjoy the beauty of God's creation around the world. She and Chuck traveled in all 50 United States and 15 foreign countries. She loved the Lord Jesus, and rejoiced to see people everywhere trust Jesus as their Savior.
Betty is survived by her husband of 63 years, Charles (Chuck) Sams, a son, John (Hope) Sams of West Chester, OH; a daughter, Janet (Gary) Woodard of Pegram, TN, four grandchildren: Britney Sams, Scott Sams, Emily Woodard and Erin Woodard, two great grand daughters: Savannah Billiter and Serenity Sams, three sisters: Barbara Stephens of Polo, MO, Shirley (Houston) Rushing of Great Falls, MT, Sharon (Duane) Tindall of Polo, MO, and a brother, James (Barbara) Shelton of San Antonio, TX as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be on Monday, May 6, 2024, at 1:00pm until the funeral service at 2:00pm., both at Stone Worship Center located on the grounds Mason Christian Village at 411 Western Row Rd. in Mason, OH 45040, with Chaplain David Ray presiding. David H. Hillis, aged 78, was called to his eternal home on April 1, 2024, after courageously battling a prolonged illness. Born to missionary parents, Don and Doris Hillis in Chicago, IL, David’s formative years in India instilled in him a lifelong commitment to faith and service. His journey took him from the vibrant streets of India to the academic halls of Columbia Bible College, where he met his cherished wife, Mary “Scottie” Hillis. Together, they embarked on a path of devotion and education, with David earning degrees from LeTourneau University and Liberty Seminary, and an honorary doctorate from Hindustan Bible Institute and College in Chennai, India.
David’s fervor for ministry led him to establish the Word of Life Camp and Bible College in Sydney, Australia, where he served as founder and director from 1970 to 1984. His leadership extended to roles as Dean of Students at Washington Bible College and Vice President at Concerned Women for America. David’s pastoral heart guided him through various pastorates until his retirement in 2013 to Mason, OH. His ten years as Chaplain for Holland America cruises allowed him to touch lives across the seas, and his involvement with Call of Love Ministries in Cincinnati solidified his impact on the community.
A gifted orator and dedicated missionary, David’s voice resonated in pulpits around the globe, and his hands worked tirelessly on mission trips that spanned continents. Yet, it was his unwavering love for his family and his zeal for teaching the Scriptures that truly defined him.
David’s legacy lives on through his loving wife of 56 years, Mary N. (Scott) Hillis, and their three sons: Stephen (married to Christina), Daniel (married to Melissa), and Mark (married to Carla). His nine grandchildren: Taylor Hindes (married to Andrew), Alana Price (married to Garrett), Ashley, Abby, Kerstin, Anna, Alison, Caleb, and Luke Hillis; and two great-grandchildren: Braelynn and Benson Hindes, will carry forward the torch of his faith and love. He is also remembered by his nieces and nephews: Lea Scott, Ashley Scott, Scott Hankal, Sherry Hankal, and Karen Boles. He is survived by a brother-in-law Chuck (the late Judy) Davis and the late Richard (Linda) Scott.
Family and friends will begin gathering at 1:00 p.m. followed by a celebration of David’s life on Friday, May 17 at 2:00 p.m. at Kenwood Baptist Church, 8341 Kenwood Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45236. In honor of David’s passion for missions, the family requests that memorial gifts be directed to Call of Love Ministry or HBI Global Partner, supporting the ongoing mission work in India that was so dear to his heart.

David DeBeck Hammel - March 19, 1958 - March 31, 2024

Obituary Preview: David DeBeck Hammel of Silverton Ohio, beloved son of the late Clarence W. and Ruth DeBeck Hammel, passed away Easter Sunday from esophageal cancer. David leaves behind sisters Barbara Earth and Carol Hammel-Smith, brother-in-law Bradley Smith, niece Kirsten Pool and her husband Chuck Pool, great-nephews Brian and Gabriel Pool, roommate Joe Wolfe, second cousin Sara Erhardt, more cousins on both sides, and many friends at the Legacy group home where David lived. David struggled with mental health challenges since his late teen years and was familiar with many Cincinnati organizations and people working in support services. Without exception, they hold him in high regard. His group home members and staff say he was the nicest person, funny, sweet, and generous to a fault. He fed the birds every day. He kept a clean, neat, orderly and aesthetic apartment with Joe. He was a bit of an artist; he favored Van Gogh. He was very good with languages. David had a collection of fossils that he found himself, both from Summit, New Jersey where he grew up, and Cincinnati where he lived most of his life. He also collected coins, shells and rocks. He enjoyed travel and seeing new sights. He loved trips to the family beach house in Myrtle Beach, and all his favorite restaurants there. David was a gentle spirit who was much loved and will be sorely missed. He will be laid to rest at Hopewell Cemetery in Montgomery, next to his parents and surrounded by Hammel relatives. Rest in peace, Dave. We love you. After retiring, he spent winter months in Nokomis, Florida. Vince also made time to pursue philanthropic interests. He was the former President of the Cheviot-Westwood Kiwanis Club and the Italian Government knighted him in honor of the charitable donations he made to his family’s hometown, Chiauci, Italy. Vince is survived by his beloved companion, Eileen, children Gregory (Johanne), Jaime and Kimberley (Greg), stepchildren Stanley and Monica, 12 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and siblings Janet, Nicholas (Bettie), Gary (Sharon) and Dino. As the last surviving child of the late Adelaide M. (Hewing) and Carl T. Mrusek, Connie’s radiant spirit was a beacon of love and joy.
Her 62-year marriage to Bill was a testament to their unwavering devotion and happiness. A proud homemaker, Connie’s nurturing presence was the foundation of her home. Her later years saw her serving the community through a Civil Service career with the US Post Office, where all felt her warmth and generosity. Connie’s life was a tapestry of love and service, woven with the threads of family time, which she cherished above all. A graduate of Madeira High School, class of '51, she relished the annual class reunions, surrounded by lifelong friends who shared her kind and caring nature.
A devout parishioner of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Glendale, OH, Connie’s faith was a guiding force, with Sunday mass and Father David Fay holding special places in her heart. Her quick wit, sense of humor, and compassionate nature were her gifts to the world, always ready with a friendly word or a helping hand. An avid sports enthusiast, Connie’s competitive spirit shone brightly whether she was cheering on the Cincinnati Reds or following her favorite college and professional basketball and football teams. Her passion for sports was matched only by her love for her family and friends. Connie’s memory will be honored in a service that reflects the warmth and light she brought into this world. Sue Carol Burns, age 86, died peacefully on March 14, 2024, following a years-long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born on October 3, 1937, in Cincinnati Ohio, Sue was the only child of Myrtle and Simon (“Sam”) Dunlap.
In Sue’s early years, she and her parents lived in the West End of Cincinnati. When she was just 11 years old she met the love of her life, Hordie (“Sonny”) Edgar Burns, Jr., and spent much of her time in class doodling his and her names in her notebooks. Sue was confirmed at the age of 12. Thereafter, she attended Hughes High School, where she was a member of Tau Nu Tau.
Sue married Sonny at St. Francis De Sales Parish in the Walnut Hills neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio. Early in her marriage, Sue was a stay-at-home mom, who cared for her sons, Michael Avery Burns and David Edgar Burns, until they were school aged. She then began her career as an Administrative Assistant at Sycamore High School in Cincinnati, where she remained until going to work for Archbishop Moeller High School, where she stayed until her retirement in the mid-90’s.
Throughout her adulthood, Sue was committed to tangible acts of service towards others. She believed in showing up when people needed a hand and helping out however she could. Although she was comfortably introverted, she had a quick wit and could make a sailor (or just her grandchildren) blush. Sue was an avid reader, who loved mysteries, all genres of fiction, and an occasional romance novel. She enjoyed knitting and quilting, watching football on Saturdays, bragging about her grandchildren, and a good long-island iced tea.
Sue was predeceased by her husband, who passed away on January 26, 1985. The only child to Myrtle and Simon, Sue faithfully cared for her father and mother in their later years, until they predeceased her in death in 2007 and 2013, respectfully. Sue is survived by her sons, Michael  and David (Kunsuk Cho), her grandchildren Brooke Jackson (Matthew), Mychael William Simon Burns, Joshua Yung-hi Burns, great-grandchildren, Miles, Elias, and Olivia-Grace Jackson, sister-in-law, Georgette Burns, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is survived by his daughter, Malynda “Mandy” Buck Whitton, granddaughter Lauren Whitton, and son in law Chris Whitton. His son, David Alvin Buck and his children Jacob Carter Buck and Adison Rose Buck, wife (Judy Lynn Donnelly). He was also a cherished brother to Donald Alvin Buck.
Kenneth’s life was marked by his dedication to serving God, his family, and his community. He was a talented musician, playing the trombone and piano, and lent his voice for over 50 years to the church choir. His commitment to service was evident through his long-standing involvement with the Syrian Shrine Band, Montgomery Masonic Lodge, Sycamore Community Band, Mason Community Band.

Reita was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Harry Randle Barnaclo, her beloved granddaughter, Carey, as well as siblings John Ross, Jr., Arnold Ross, and Kenneth Ross.
Reita was born at home in Kenton County, KY to the late John and Hazel Ross. After graduating from Dixie Heights H.S. in 1952 she went to work at Central Trust Bank where she met the love of her life, Harry. In 1968, they moved their family to Montgomery, Ohio where she became an active member of the Montgomery Women’s Club serving on their board and working on the Town Hall lecture series as well as the Lazy Daisy Garden Club. She served for many years as a member and Chair of the City of Montgomery’s Beautification & Tree Commission providing leadership on projects, including the Children’s Marigold Project, the Arbor Day Celebration, Tree City USA, the Spring and Fall Plant Swaps, Beautification Awards, the Great American Clean Up, the Basket and Container Planting Project and her passion project of bringing the Bicentennial Pioneer Park Butterfly Garden to fruition culminating in June, 2000. Reita was a member of the Montgomery Historical Society and also volunteered at Bethesda North Hospital for years and assisted with the Books for Babies program. She served as a deacon and was a long-time active member of Blue Ash (now Evergreen) Presbyterian Church.
Reita was devoted to her family and friends. She was a second Mom to many of her children’s friends who often would come home to find their friends hanging out around the kitchen table with her. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her love of gardening, playing cards, her sense of humor and adventure and devotion to helping others. Visitation will be Monday March 18, 2024, at Evergreen Presbyterian Church, 9994 Zig Zag Road, Montgomery, OH 45242, from 10:30am until the time of the funeral service at Noon. Bill also had the joy of being a great-grandfather to four precious souls: Rain, Shea, Wade William and Walker. Born on August 11, 1932, William Edward Wade was the son of the late John Beverly and Helensue Gates Wade. He was predeceased by his cherished siblings: Ann Wade Saino, John B. “Buddy” Wade, James G. Wade, Robert “Bob” Mark Wade, Sr. and Sue Wade, and is survived by his cousin, Robert Steed.  Bill was an uncle to dozens of nieces and nephews and a favorite to all.
Bill’s life was a tapestry of experiences. He graduated from Christian Brothers College and had a passion for the game of golf at a very young age, which never left him. He and his brother, Buddy, secured the victory in the Tennessee State golf championship in 1949.  In Cincinnati, Bill went on to secure golf-pro teaching positions at several country clubs and was a champion at multiple club and city tournaments over his lifetime.   Bill pursued 5 years of higher education at Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL, and at The University of Memphis. His sense of duty led him to enlist where he proudly served in the 101st Airborne Division - Special Services in the United States Army Air Corp in the Korean War. After an honorable discharge, he embarked upon a career at General Motors, retiring in Labor Relations. An avid outdoorsman, he passed his hunting skills onto his children and grandchildren. Bill’s commitment to family, faith, and country remained unwavering. As a devoted member of Hartzell United Methodist Church, Bill tirelessly served God’s cause and supported the church community until his passing. Bill was more than just a name; he was a beacon of kindness, resilience, and love. His warm smile and gentle spirit, together with his life long soul mate Lu, touched the lives of everyone in a profound way. Bill’s impact was immeasurable and we have been blessed by knowing him.
