Winfred Ether Ritter - November 20, 1942 - October 02, 2021

Departed: 10/02/2021 (Sharpsville)
Obituary Preview: Winfred Ether Ritter entered this world on November 20, 1942, the son of Ben and Thelma (Davis) Ritter, in Clay County, TN. On January 7, 1964, he married the love of his life, Delores Netherton, in Marion County, IN, and she preceded him in death on September 25, 2019.
On October 2, 2021, while at home in Fairmount, IN, he heard God whisper the words “Well done good and faithful servant” and he followed God to his true home and was reunited with his loved ones, in particular his wife. Together they shared 55 years of marriage until Mom went to help the Lord prepare a place for him and their children. They had five children together: Linda Lou, Karen Sue, Michael, Elizabeth, and Richard.
Winfred was no stranger to hard work. He proudly served in the United States Army. He enlisted in 1964 and was honorably discharged in 1967. As a young boy he did odd jobs to help his father make money to make ends meet, whether it was mowing yards, sweeping the school gym after a ball game, or helping his dad grow corn to sell. As a parent, he instilled the value of hard work to his children. Winfred always told his children there is no job not to be done if it was an honest job. Although work was important, a good education was even higher up on the list. Attending school came before almost everything else. He did not expect his kids to receive all A’s, but he did expect them to put forth their best.
Winfred loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly. As all of us children said, the grandchildren wore halos but when the great-grandchildren started arriving the halos on the grandchildren still shined but were dimmed by the new shiny halos of the great-grandchildren.
Winfred attended sporting events that his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were involved in and encouraged them to do their very best. His family could always hear Winfred in the bleachers cheering for them. He not only cheered for them but was also a coach on many occasions.
Winfred loved sharing his favorite hobbies with his wife, kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He taught many of them how to primitive camp, swim, fish, water ski, play horseshoes, cornhole, baseball, softball, badminton, putt-putt, NASCAR and INDY CAR racing, and how to drive a go cart.
Holiday gatherings were always looked forward to. After dinner, he would play Trivial Pursuit, Euchre, poker, Checkers, and Chess. It was nearly impossible to beat Winfred in a game. The best thing ever was to hear his wife Delores laugh as they all enjoyed his company.
Those left to carry on Winfred’s legacy are his children, Linda Lou (John) Cromwell of Nevada, IN, Michael (Beth) Ritter of Marion, IN, Elizabeth Richard of Fairmount, IN, Richard (Robin) Ritter of Sharpsville, IN; grandchildren, Adria (Terry) Amos of TN, Jessica Cromwell of Windfall, Benjamin (Amber) Cromwell of Russiaville, Stephanie of Georgia, Sarah (Jacob) Cox of Sharpsville, IN, and Samuel (Bianca) Ritter of California; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Aubryn of TN, Carolyn and Kaitlyn of Windfall, IN, Shelby and Owen of Russiaville, IN, Sophia and Olivia Cox of Sharpsville, IN, and Kenneth of California. brothers-in-law, Terry Netherton of Tipton County, Larry (Norma) Netherton of Windfall, IN, Charles Copas of Elwood; sisters-in-law, Darlene Peters of Atlanta, Debbie Bess of Windfall, IN, Judy Netherton of Kokomo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Thelma Ritter; wife, Delores Ritter; daughter, Karen Sue; only sibling, William Ritter; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ambrose and Ruby Netherton; brothers-in-law, Truman Netherton, James Netherton, Butch Netherton, Jack Goodnight, Jim Garst, Terry Stout, Michel Bess, Chris Peters, sisters-in-law, Buina Garst, Ailine Bauer, Opal Ritter, Jackie Copas, Diane Stout.

Edward Michael Leonard - April 15, 1935 - April 16, 2021

Departed: 04/16/2021 (Sharpsville)
Obituary Preview: Edward Michael Leonard, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2021, at age 86. Ed was born in Evanston, IL on April 15, 1935 to Helen Bernice Leonard nee Sullivan and Edward A. Leonard.  He graduated from Lane Tech High School in Chicago and also attended Wright Junior College there in the 1950s. On October 22, 1960, he married Norma Jean Leonard nee Horton of Kokomo, IN. They were married for 55 years, until her death in 2015. The couple moved from Kokomo to Knoxville, TN in 1967 and lived there until 2003 while Ed was a furniture salesman for Kmart Furniture, Brown Squirrel, and then for Havertys Furniture.
You had a window into a bygone era when listening to Ed’s stories of the various classic jobs he had held since he started working before he was even 10-years-old, such as newspaper boy, golf caddy, soda jerk, and cab driver. He had a diaper route and a Coca-cola route (luckily not at the same time!) and spent several years as a traveling salesman. His stories of slipping into Wrigley field, riding the “El” alone as a kid, high school fraternity dances, and Chicago jazz clubs all brought the past alive as well.
Ed and Norma shared their love for the outdoors and spent many hours walking together. Living in Knoxville for so many years, they grew to love the nearby Smoky Mountains, and it became a frequent destination for Ed and Norma, their two daughters, Lori and Amy, and then their three grandchildren, Dylan, Mario, and Grace. Those car trips always included Ed’s singing of his favorite songs, especially showtunes. Ed loved learning, and his curious mind resulted in many varied interests over the years. Ed enjoyed gardening, woodworking, nature photography, and recreational swimming. He loved to spend his breaks at work listening to Opera & Jazz. He dove into genealogy and gave all of us the gift of our family history and all the photos and videos he could find. He was an avid reader who loved to read sci-fi, mysteries, and all types of history. He also kept up with current events and rarely ever missed the Sunday edition of his hometown paper, the Chicago Tribune. Ed’s wonderful cookies and baked goods have a special place in our favorite Christmas memories. He also made holidays special by designing and creating personalized cards for birthdays, Christmases, and Anniversaries. Ed and Norma both loved a house full of family and friends and provided all of us with wonderful memories of occasions enlivened by his dry sense of humor.
More than all of his interests and pastimes, however, being a devoted husband and father was most important to Ed. He was unashamedly sentimental, and nothing mattered more to him than his family. He was the proud father of two children, Lori Boyd, who lives in NJ with her husband Miles, and Amy Leonard Tuch, who lives in Cincinnati with her husband Harry. Ed also adored his three grandchildren, Dylan Michael Boyd, of New York City, and Mario Leonard and Grace Ruth Dicesare, who both live in Cincinnati.  He is also survived by his brother, Jim, in Las Vegas, NV, as well as several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews here in Indiana.

Departed: 03/25/2021 (Sharpsville)
Obituary Preview: Larry Lee Flick Sr. was born on November 4, 1936, in northwest Howard County. He was the oldest son of Oliver and Edith (Crowder) Flick. Larry passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 25, 2021, in the home that he himself designed. His family lovingly surrounded him as he left this world and entered his forever home with Jesus. What a heavenly home he must now be designing! On June 3, 1955, Larry married the love of his life, Shirley Hewitt. He recently stated that he sure was proud of their 65 years of marriage and that the church had something to do with that. Together, Larry and Shirley had three children, daughter Krista (Bryan DeWitt), son Larry Jr. (Barb Flick), and daughter Vonda (Billy Peters.)
Larry was a family man and invested in his family to an extreme. His greatest joy in life was simply being in his recliner, sipping on a coke, and being surrounded by his family. He took pride in his classic car collection and in a well-manicured lawn, enjoyed watching sprint car racing, and was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan. Larry especially treasured his great grandkids. He enjoyed visits from them and watched many episodes of Sponge Bob! He became an expert at FaceTime, and FaceTimed family members regularly. He also scrolled through Facebook daily to keep tabs on grandkids, always hoping to see pictures of the great grandkids.
Said grandkids are Keith Flick (fiancé Tristyn Minor), Brianne DeWitt Goudelock (Bryan), Amber Sholty (Dustin), Brady Peters (Sam), and Molly Peters. Larry also has a much-loved nephew, Craig (Quincy) Henderson.
His beloved great grandkids are Zetta and Violet DeWitt Goudelock, Will and Gabby Sholty, and Brooks, Scout and Asa Peters.
Larry was met in Heaven by two brothers, Jerry and Oliver Jr. Flick and his parents, Oliver and Edith Flick. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, a sister, Darlene (Dick) Henderson, a sister-in-law, Barb Flick and nieces and nephews, Scott Flick, Kim Colburn, Julie Greenwood, Shari Scalf, and Stacy Surber.
On Wednesday, March 24, Larry rededicated his life to Christ. If Larry could talk to you now, he would want you to do the same. God’s blessings to all who read this.
There will be a small graveside service at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 1, 2021, at Sharpsville Cemetery, and people are asked to wear green, Larry’s favorite color, and casual attire.
