Obituary Preview: Matthew D. Mason, III, of New Hope, PA, formerly of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 4, 2021. He was 73.
Matt was born on November 18, 1947, in Charleston, WV, to parents Matthew D. Mason, Jr. and Margaret T. Mason (nee Thayer).
Matt was an accomplished financial advisor and a member of the Delaware Bar Association. He was a proud Vietnam veteran, an avid fisherman, tennis player, golfer, a wonderful cook and loved spending time with his family. Matt was extremely proud of his sons and relished in being a grandfather.
Matt is survived by his sons Matthew Todd Mason (Elena Austin), Stephen Thayer Mason (Annie Rose-Mason), sister Margaret Lynn Fuller (Walter Tuthill), granddaughters Sylvia Mary Rose-Mason and Clara Maxine Rose-Mason, grandniece Meya C. Jones and dear friend Katie Lewin. Matt was predeceased by his parents and nephew Mason Dunn.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate his life on Saturday, September 11, 2021 beginning at 12:00pm with services starting at 1:00pm at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803. Obituary Preview: Joshua Bradley Sowden, of New Hope, PA passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, August 29th, 2021, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was 57 years old.
Josh was born on April 18, 1964, in Doylestown, PA to parents June Elizabeth Sowden (nee Stephens) and Dallas Bradshaw Sowden. The youngest of 5 siblings, he grew up in New Hope, PA attending New Hope-Solebury District schools as well as Solebury School and Lawrenceville Academy. He studied at UCLA before returning to Philadelphia. He wore many hats in the food industry, and later found a passion for landscaping and gardening, eventually starting his own gardening business focusing on perennials.
A talented musician, Josh played bass in several local bands, including The Spread, Sadie Crozier, The Heavy Pets, Spare Tire, and Birdie Num Num & the Spirit Squad. He shared this love of music with his two best creations, his daughters Juniper and Emilia. He was the DJ for many in-home dance parties, a reader of bedtime stories, and a canvas for face paint and nail polish. His passion for the Phillies and the Eagles was passed along to Junie, with whom he watched the games, often beating the commentators to their remarks. His love of animals, his curls, and his argumentative prowess he gave to Emie. Josh was a wordsmith and enjoyed engaging in friendly debate over a pint of pilsner or on social media. His happy place was the beach, particularly Long Beach Island, where he spent time as a child and as an adult.
Josh was predeceased by his parents and his sister Diana. He is survived by his devoted partner, Jessica Williams whom he finally hooked by asking her to go fishing with him, and their two daughters, Juniper Margaret, and Emilia Grace. He is also survived by his brother Dallas (Jane) of Chalfont, brother Rick of Claymont DE, sister Betsy Allen (Bill) of Lambertville NJ, and uncle Phillip (Maryanne) of Claymont DE. His nieces Amy, Ashley, Amanda, Andrea, and Alex, nephew James and his great-nieces & nephews brought him happiness and pride.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Saturday, September 4th at 2pm at Trinity Episcopal Church, Solebury, 6587 Upper York Road, Solebury, PA 18963. Interment is private. The service will be streamed as well as recorded for those unable to attend. Masks will be required.

Obituary Preview: KRISTEN S. MIMS AKA Kristen W. Mims Kristen S. Mims, (nee Spehrley) age 53 years of Erwinna, PA, a loving mother, devoted daughter, special sister, caring aunt and true friend, died of cancer
Thursday evening, April 29th at her home, surrounded by her family. Kristen’s life revolved around her children, Morgan and Shane Mims. From attending every school performance and concert to 4H outings and church retreats, Kristen supported every aspect of their lives (smother mother!). As their main cheerleader she was a committed Assistant Coach and score keeper of their softball and baseball games as well as team mom for soccer and basketball.
She was dedicated to rearing her children in a church community and instilling in them the meaning of loving everyone. She taught them ‘old fashioned’ manners and the art of writing thank you notes. “You can do anything, if you just put your mind to it,” was one of her favorite mantras.
Kristen was overjoyed at the birth of her grandchildren, Hazel Faith and Caleb Thomas, who loved her as much as she loved them.
Kristen was the daughter of Karen Spehrley Dewar (nee Wetherill) of Erwinna, PA and Charles W. Spehrley of Key Colony Beach, FL.
She was the special sister of Kim Spehrley Laughlin and caring aunt of Emily Jane and Trevor James Laughlin.
Kristen was born in Hanover, NH and grew up in White River Junction, VT. She graduated from The George School in Newtown, PA, and attended Sterling College in Craftsbury, VT. She was employed by Wesley Enhanced Living in Doylestown, PA where she was loved by staff, residents, and friends for her daily uplifting messages and dedication to their wellbeing.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Solebury where she was married and her children were baptized. She was a sponsor to the Trinity Youth Group and ‘Momma(y) Mims’ to many young adults who have been forever impacted by her caring devotion.
Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, Kristen’s Memorial Service and Interment will take place privately. There will be a public Celebration of Her Life at a future time, date to be announced. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Bucks County SPCA, P.O. Box 277, Lahaska, PA 18931 (www.aspca.org/donate) or to Trinity Episcopal Solebury, 6587 Upper York Road, Solebury, PA 18938 (www.trinitysolebury.org). “My life and so many others will be forever better because you’ve touched it.”

Obituary Preview: Edward T. Monigan
Edward entered into the presence of Jesus, at home and at peace, on Aug. 3. He was 92.
Mr. Monigan was born to Josephine (Schueler) and Michael F. Monigan on March 8, 1924 in Rosebank, Staten Island, New York. He attended St. Mary's Elementary and St. Peter's High School. In January of 1944, he received a B.S. In Chemistry from Manhattan College. He then entered the Navy and served honorably as a corpsman for 26 months during World War II.
Upon discharge, he worked for National Starch and Chemical in Manhattan and Plainfield, N.J. He later worked in the laboratory for Sun Chemical in Paterson, N.J., then as a sales engineer for Dunmore Corp. in Newtown.
He married Patricia Fair in 1976. In 1991, they founded The Irish Sitter, a pet-sitting service through which they came to know many people. Patricia died in 2008.
Mr. Monigan is survived by his children: Thomas, and his wife, Brenda, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; Gerald, and his wife, Joan, of New Hope; and Elizabeth, of Hackettstown, N.J. He also is survived by his step-daughters: Linda Montigel, of Lower Makefield; and Deborah Hann, and her husband, Dave, of Easton. Two grandsons and a great-granddaughter also survive: Ryan Monigan, his wife, Chrissy, and their daughter, Ashley, of Rogers, Ark.; and Michael Zartin, of Hackettstown, N.J.
Mr. Monigan was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus at Assumption Council 1694. An avid, lifelong sports fan, he loved following the St. Louis Cardinals in baseball, and the Arizona Cardinals in football, whom he first saw as the Chicago Cardinals in 1932 on Staten Island.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Aug. 6 at 9 a.m. at St. Ignatius of Antioch in Yardley. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Grace in Langhorne.

Tom was survived by his two sisters, Sandra and Denise along with several nieces and nephews.
Tom was a retired SEPTA overhead foreman and past fire inspector for Lower Southampton Twp. For the past 31 years he was a member of Trevose Fire Company in which the last position he held was fire police captain but also a life member.
His dedication to charitable causes led him to being a chaplain with Washington Lodge No.59 F&AM as well as a junior warden of the DeJoinville Council, Princes of Jerusalem with the Valley of Phila. AASR. Also, he was a member of Temple Melita RAC No. 183 and other Masonic organizations.

Obituary Preview: Jane McCarten McNeill and her husband, Ian McNeill, passed away together tragically on December 8, 2015 as the result of an automobile accident. The two had shared 37 years of marriage.
Born in Ottawa, Canada, Jane was a daughter of the late Bill and Norma McCarten. Ian, born in Morristown, NJ, was a son of the late George and Ruth McNeill.
Jane graduated from High School at Ontario Ladies College. She was a devoted wife and mother, and a master chef.
Ian graduated from the Morristown-Beard Academy, earned his Bachelor’s degree from Rollins College, and was later awarded his Executive MBA from Drexel University. He enjoyed a long and successful career with GenRe Insurance, retiring in 2005 from the position of Senior Vice President of the Pacific Rim.
An accomplished woodworker, Ian enjoyed building boats, chairs, and carving decoys. He was also an avid gardener.
Jane and Ian were not only devoted to each other and their family, but also to the community in which they lived. Together they volunteered their time and talents to the Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve in New Hope and were dedicated active members of Trinity Episcopal Church in Solebury. Their unexpected passing will be very deeply felt by the communities they were a part of, and most importantly by their family and friends. Jane and Ian will be dearly missed.
Surviving are the couple’s children, John McNeill and Christopher “Kip” McNeill; Jane’s brother, Paul McCarten and his wife, Jackie; and Ian’s brothers, George McNeill and his wife, Kasia, and Geoffrey McNeill and his wife, Marguerite.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate their lives at a Memorial Service on Sunday, December 13th at 2pm with a visitation beginning at 1pm at Trinity Episcopal Church, 6587 Upper York Road, Solebury, PA 18963.

Obituary Preview: Ella Moultrie Harris was born at 246 West 150th Street, New York City on May 31, 1936 to Martin Jerome and Emma Blaire Moultrie. Her father was a restaurateur and provided his daughter with the best money could buy. After graduating high school she went on to Morgan State University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in history and political science in 1957. Ella then pursued, and was awarded, a master’s degree plus 40 in special education from Temple University. In 1963 she married Bruce Russell Harris, Sr. at Abyssinian Baptist Church in New York. Applying her quality education, she became a teacher at Saul Junior High in South Philadelphia, a librarian at Kane Middle School in North Philadelphia and finally, crossing the quadrant of the city once more, a teacher at Sulzberger Junior High School in West Philadelphia. Her second career as a full time union organizer with the Philadelphia and American Federation of Teachers, started with her taking the position of union representative where she taught. This eventually blossomed into a full time career where Ella traversed the country, organizing teachers from coast to coast. She also taught English as a Second Language (ESL) to primarily Asian students with the University of Pennsylvania. She retired in 1998.
Ella soon turned her attention to her alma matter, Morgan State University, lending her time and talents to the Morgan State University National Alumni Association. She held various positions locally and nationally, ending her tenure as national president in 2008. Known for her unyielding positivity and driven fundraising, Ella reminded alumni of a Morgan tradition, “enter to learn, depart to serve,” a motto she held dear to her heart throughout her life. She continued to stay involved in her beloved sorority, Delta Sigma Theta. She was also a member of the Continental Society, National Association of Parliamentarians and the Red Hat Society.

Obituary Preview: Joseph G. Dahms, born February 7, 1925, passed away February 24, 2014. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, Dahms attended Notre Dame and Cornell Universities through the V-12 program, created to grant bachelor's degrees to future officers drawn from both the U.S. Navy and the Marine Corps. He achieved the rank of Captain before being honorably discharged in 1958, and then worked as a civilian with the astronaut training program at Johnsville Naval Air Development Center in Warminster. Johnsville possessed the world's largest centrifuge, which played an important role in Mercury, the first U.S. human space flight program and the follow-on Gemini and Apollo programs. Alan Shepard, John Glenn, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were among the astronauts who participated in the training. During this period, he also attended Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania on the GI Bill, where he received his Bachelor and then Master of Arts in English. He went on to serve as Public Affairs Officer at Johnsville and then left government employment to start his own business, Technical Writers Service. When he retired from his business, he served as adjunct faculty member in the Mathematics Department at Temple University through 2010. He is survived by former wife Charlotte Dahms, nee Dolan and sons Joseph, Matthew (Deborah), Christian (Sue) and Jonathan (Chong Ye), daughters Mary Lou and Eve (Timothy Gulla), brother Paul, grandchildren Megan, Gregory, Amanda, Jane, Anneliese, Madeleine, Juliana, Jarrett, Nathan, Natalie, Bradford, Randi, Samantha and Alexander and great-grandchild Lyell. He was predeceased by his parents, Mary Eva and CharlesDahms, brothers Charles, Bill, and Donald, sisters Marie, Helen and Margaret (Sister Marie deLourdes) and sons, Stephen and Gerard. Edie loved animals, collectibles, and enjoyed writing and sharing her poetry.
Edie is survived by her brother Sol, her beloved children Nancy (Philip), Laura, and Andrea (Mark) and 5 wonderful grandchildren - Janna, Samantha, Jared, Julia, and Rebecca. She will be greatly missed by her entire family.

Edna was born on February 18, 1942 in San Fernando, La Union, Philippines. She obtained her nursing degree from Dagupan College of Nursing in the Philippines and came to the United States in 1967. She was very proud to become a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1986. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Lower Bucks Hospital from 1979 until 2007 when she retired.
Edna loved to shop, play mahjong with her friends, and watch tennis and Flyers hockey. She enjoyed spending time with her family especially on vacations and cruises.
Edna was the devoted mother of Jocelyn Adrian (Steve) and John (Kim). She has five grandchildren: Arianna, Brett, Grace, Dean, and Gwen; two sisters – Redempta Alviar Catbagan (Rodolfo) and Lolita Alviar Ostrea (Luetelio) both reside in the Philippines; and one deceased brother, Edmund Alviar. Edna was also very much loved by her sisters-in-laws, their husbands and children: Rosalinda Rabago Magno (Dionisio), Julieta Rabago Garcia (Renato), Aurora Rabago Maniwang (Jose), and Teresita Rabago. Her many nieces and nephews, along with their children, world-wide will also miss their “Mommy”/Auntie Edna.

Obituary Preview: Racheal F. Hemingway, a longtime resident of Levittown, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013. She was 88.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Louise Greco.
She is survived by her children, Kenneth, and Doris Hemingway Frost; her sisters, Elsie Poynor and Louise Jones; and her grandchildren, Heather, David (Jessica), Daniel, Justin, Samantha, Alicia, CJ, and Ronald. She is also survived by many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Besides her parents, Racheal was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her son, Ronald; her brothers, Fred, Ralph, and Joe; and her sister, Victoria.
Racheal was an active volunteer for the Silver Lake Nature Center and the Boy Scouts of America for 20 years. She was the recipient of The Buck Award and The Silver Fawn Award due to her involvement with the Scouts.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday. June 24 at Assumption B.V.M. Church, 1900 Meadowbrook Rd., Feasterville, PA 19053, where her funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Roslyn.
