Obituary Preview: Sheraton Joy Frank was born on December 1, 1975 to Clifton Harris and Barbara Fincher in Lake Charles, LA.  She gained her wings on April 10, 2022.
Sheraton graduated from South Cameron High School in 1996 in Creole, LA.  She was a member on the Tarpon Pep Squad Team.
Sheraton joined Bargeman Memorial Church of God in Christ in Cameron, LA where she was also baptized at an early age. She loved children and found her true calling by becoming a caretaker of small children.  Her love for children never faded and later in life, her home became a safe haven for children.  She would do any and everything for anybody including feeding, providing a place to stay and helping them.
Sheraton became a member of New Beginning Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Charles Porter and later Elder Derrick Gallien in West Lake, LA.
The joy of Sheraton’s life was becoming a mother to her four children; Isaiah, McKeithan, Aderius and Shyla Frank.  When her grandchildren came along, they brought so much joy to her life.
Sheraton was a loving and caring person with a heart of gold.  She took care of all her nieces and nephews as if they were her very own. She was at all the family gatherings and doing whatever her hands found to do.  She was one that just jumped right in.
Sheraton was loved by everyone and always wore a beautiful smile on her face which we all will truly miss. Her motto was, “It’s just nice to be nice”.

Orelia “Patsy” Jones , 89, was born on December 3, 1932 in Charenton, LA to the late Timothy and Alberta Bennett.  Death’s intrusion appeared to claim this beautiful rose for the heavenly garden on March 17, 2022.
Orelia was the seventh of eleven children. She was united in marriage to the late Lawrence Dunbar Jones, Sr. and to that union four children were born:  Lawrence Jr., Donald, Jacqueline and Larry. Patsy accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend D.J. Jones.  She later united in faith and became a member of Glad Tidings Church.  Orelia was a “Laborer of Love.”  She loved the Lord and unconditionally loved her Family and others.  Everybody was “somebody” in her book.  She spent a lot of time ministering and advising others. Patsy was not one to stay still. She loved visiting with her family and others. Always checking on you to make sure you were alright and reaching out her hands to help wherever there was a need. If you were sick and she knew it, no need to worry, she was on the way. She shared her home with many; either feeding or ministering to them and most of the times doing both.  She enjoyed serving others!
Orelia worked at McNeese State University for 30 years before retiring. Afterwards she became employed at Jennifer’s Little Angel where she served as a cook for over 17 years; fulfilling her passion of what she loved doing most.
Her life will be forever cherished by one daughter, Jacqueline (Kendall) Roberts; one son, Larry “Lynn” Jones; one sister, Lucille (Felton) Johnson, all of Lake Charles; 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and two extended sisters, Catherine Celestine and Jean Alfred; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Orelia was preceded in death by her parents, Timothy and Alberta Bennett; her husband, Lawrence Dunbar Jones; two sons, Lawrence Jones, Jr. and Donald Jones; nine siblings, Ernest, Clarence, Clayton, Rufus, Leroy, Timothy, Clifford, Mildred Alfred and Viola Roberson.

Manuel Washington was born February 28, 1924, to the late David and Jane Johnson Washington in Garland, Louisiana. He was married to the late Lessie Mae Randall Washington. Bro. Manuel Washington at ninety-seven years old made his way to his heavenly home with thirty-eight minutes to his ninety-eighth birthday to forever be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 27, 2022, with family at Southwest Veteran's Home in Jennings, LA
He was a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church where he served on the usher board. He served with honors in World War II as part of the United States Army. He was a member of the Legionary Post 551, executive officer of Local 207, and belonged to the Mason Lodge #26.  Bro. Manuel was the last of seven siblings. Bro. Manuel enjoyed working in his yard, listening, and dancing to music, and of course, sitting on his porch listening to them jokers telling them lies. He also enjoyed carpentry work; he loved wearing his sheriff uniform and carrying his badge. He had no shame in pulling out his badge to let you know he is the police. That was his way of keeping things in order. He took immense pride in taking care of his children.
Bro Manuel loved the Lord, even as he was going through challenging times, he kept his faith and continued to sing songs of Zion like “Yes Lord,” “Somebody Prayed for Me,” “Glory, Glory Hallelujah since I laid my burdens down,” “Jesus Keep Me near the Cross,” “Guide Me O Thy Great Jehovah,” and many other hymns. He encouraged his children to stay with the Lord.  He may have forgotten the conversations.   Maybe he did not remember he had eaten, but we are ever so grateful he remembered his children’s names. Most important of all, he remembered God and never forgot who God is. Gone but not forgotten.
Those left to cherish his precious memory are eight daughters, Jerodean Chaney, Port Arthur, TX, Lois Ann Brannigan, Los Angeles, CA, Ruth Duhon, Brenda (Freddie) Harrison, Nola Gardner, Etta (Mark) Perron, Wilma Washington, Vidalia August all of Lake Charles, LA; four sons, Samuel Batiste Sr., Dallas, GA, David (Pamela) Washington Sr., Emanuel (Karen) Washington, and Daniel (Kathleen) Washington Sr. all of Lake Charles, LA. Thirty-seven grandchildren, fifty-two great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, and an adopted friend he called son, Mack Golden.
Bro. Manuel Washington was preceded in death by his wife, Lessie Mae Randle Washington; parents, David and Jane Washington; sons, James Breaux and Phillip Washington; daughters, Gaynell Washington and Joy Clark; three brothers, Jessie, Leonard, and George Washington Sr.; three sisters, Ethel Lee, Dorothy Joyner, and Helen White; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Winnie Slaughter Jr. - June 24, 1958 - February 10, 2022

Obituary Preview: Winnie Slaughter, Jr. was born to the late Winnie Slaughter, Sr., and Rena Arvie Slaughter.
He was baptized at an early age by Pastor O'Neal King at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where he was a member. He later followed Rev. King to Riverside Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, and a layman. He was also a faithful member of the male chorus and continued to serve in these roles under the leadership of Pastor Lee Wilson.
He loved barbecuing, fishing, listening to gospel music, and simply praising the Lord. He was preceded in death by Rollin Slaughter(brother), Patricia Slaughter (sister) and Carolane Slaughter(sister).
He leaves to cherish four sisters, Audrey Freeman, Judy (Lee) Wilson, Dru Ann (Nelson) Freeman, Jacqueline Trent, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Obituary Preview: Manuel Pappillion, 77, earned his angel wings from our Lord on Monday, February 7, 2022. Manuel was born in Eunice-Lawtel, LA and lived the   majority of his life in Lake Charles, LA. He was born on May 10, 1944 to the Late Elise Pete and Verdie Pappillion. Manuel married the love of his life, Patsy Smith, and they were blessed with three children, one son and two daughters.
He was a self-taught brick mason whose skills allowed him to travel and live in many states where he worked on celebrities’ homes from California to Georgia. His passion was training racehorses. He would later go on to compete and run in some of the most competitive arenas of Horse Racing, such as Delta Downs and Evangeline Downs. He was known as a “Pap” to all who would seek him to help train their horses. He never let anyone tell him he would not accomplish anything. He was a businessman who owned his own mechanic shop that he built himself. He loved the New Orleans Saints. His children, grandchildren, and horse, “Black Girl” were his life. If he was not talking about them in the   conversation, he was showing them off in his smartphone that he always had to keep charged to make sure the battery was not low. Pap was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church under the pastorship of Pastor Barry Thomas.
He leaves to cherish his memory, one son, John Edward Pappillion; two daughters, Tangela Pappillion, Oceanna Pappillion-Blount (Serranzo); son-in-law, Tony Freeman; grandchildren, Key’Ochia Blount (Kiara), Ja’Liyah Semien, Ja’Meano Semien, Serranzo Jah’Won Blount, Ja’Corio Semien (Jasmine), John Edward Pappillion, Jr., Marcus Semien, Jermaine Humphrey, Lildell Freeman, Leland Freeman; eighteen great grandchildren; sister, Georgia Mae Howell (the late Allen); brother, Raymond Pete (Louise), Johnny Coke Pete (Eartha Gail); mother of his children, Patsy Pappillion; mother-in-law, Mary Pete Carter; godchildren, Bridgette Pappillion, Jericia Eddie and Gerald Antoine; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and close friends to include Michael “Mickey” Holloway, Barbara Gale Eddie, Johnny Pappillion; and his coffee buddy, Jewell Simon.

Obituary Preview: Eavy Mae Ellis Simien passed away on Saturday, January 29 in Lake Charles, Louisiana at the age of 79
Eavy had a long and full life. She was born May 23, 1942 to Henry Jessie Ellis and Susie Brown Ellis in DeRidder, Louisiana.
She was a former member of Midway Baptist Church (Rev. Mark Stevens) in Moss Bluff, La and was a faithful member of  Word of Hope Family Worship Center  (Pastor Charlie Williams III) for the last 20 years.
Eavy met her husband, Donald James Simien, in 1959 when they were classmates at W.O. Boston High School. They married in 1962 and had 3 children: Tammie, Jessie, and Karen.
Eavy was an employee at McNeese State University for 30 years until her retirement in 2015. Never one to sit idle, in 2017, she went back to work at the Lake Charles District Probation & Parole Office.
Eavy adored her family and especially loved being “Granny” to her great-grandchildren. She was truly an anchor and beacon of strength to her family and anyone who was lucky enough to be in her presence.
Affectionately known as “Ms. Mae”, she touched the lives of her McNeese colleagues and all the student workers she impacted in her years at the McNeese post office.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include her daughter, Tammie Murrell (Alonzo) and son Jessie Simien of  Lake Charles, La. Her grandchildren, Shauna Simien, Daneisha Davis-Harger (Jacob), Terri Williams (Charlie), Ashanti Avery (Nate), Robert Davis, and Ariel Terry.  One brother, Billy Ray Ellis of Lake Charles. She leaves behind nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She also leaves many other family members and dear friends who will sadly miss her.

Obituary Preview: Henry Clay Green Sr. was born on October 3, 1922 to Oscar Clay Green and Louise Gainey in New Orleans, LA..  Henry earned his heavenly wings on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at St. Patrick Hospital.  At the age of 99, our beloved Dad, PawPaw, Nephew, and Cousin left this earth with a sound mind.
Henry grew up in New Orleans, LA.  After high school, he joined the United States Army.  He served in World War II as Staff Sergeant and was the recipient of the EAME Service Metal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and American Theater Ribbon.  After the military, he moved back to New Orleans, LA to learn the craft as a plasterer and later relocated to Lake Charles, LA where he became one of the first African American Plasterers.  He retired after working over 45 years in the Plasterer industry.  During his leisure time, he enjoyed watching westerns, reading the entire newspaper, and cheering on his favorite teams the New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks.
He leaves behind to continue his celebration of life and to cherish his memories are ten children, Elmo (Sarah) Green, Michael Green, Diana Carter, Oscar (Altha) Green, Bobby (Sandra) Green Sr., and Isabel Briscoe all of Lake Charles, LA, Curtis Green of Houston, TX, Alfreida (James) Bell of Marion, IN, Robbie (Barbara) Green of Dallas, TX, and Rochelle Green of Pearland, TX.  He also leaves to mourn and share in his memories, Aunt Elvena Bryant, 105 years old of Houston, TX and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and cousins.

Billy “Still Bill” Miller was born on September 17, 1967 in Lake Charles, LA. He was the fifth of seven children born to the union of Beatrice Lewis Miller and the late William S. Miller. He was baptized at an early age and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at Mount Olive Baptist Church under the leader ship of the late Reverend Arvie.
Billy attended John F. Kennedy Elementary School, Rosteet Junior High School and graduated from W. O. Boston High School in 1985. After graduating from high school, Billy attended Sowela Technical Institute and studied auto mechanics. He then worked at Pithon Construction. Als Yard work became a favorite past time for Billy.
Billy was a kind and loving father, brother, uncle and great uncle. Before his health declined, his hobbies were watching sports, going fishing, cooking, dancing, and listening to music. On January 23,2022 at 3:30 p.m. after a lengthy illness, Billy was called home to rest and departed this worldly life while a patient at. Harbor Hospices of Lake Charles, La

Jocelyn Marie (Pee Wee) Guillory entered eternal rest peacefully on January 15, 2022 at her home.  Jocelyn was born on March 4, 1955 to the late Thomas and Jessie Mae Parsons.
Jocelyn accepted Christ at an early age at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Mossville, Louisiana.  She was a 1974 graduate of Sulphur High School.
She was a loyal and faithful worker at Solar Supply for forty years.  Pee Wee as she was affectionally known loved shopping, eating out with family, going to Lafayette to visit her grandchildren, great- grandchildren, eating pizza with her niece Erin and fried chicken with her grandson Kason.
Her precious memories will forever be cherished by her two sons, Ron C. Parsons of Mossville, La. and Brandon (Felicia) Parsons of Lake Charles, La.; three brothers, Ronald Lee (Linda) Parsons, Stanley (Catherine) Parsons of Lake Charles, La. and Rev. George was a diehard Washington Redskins and LSU fan.
George leaves to cherish in memory his wife of 45 years, Veronica Joseph, five beautiful children; one daughter and four sons: Cynthia (Ivan) Jordan of Kansas City, MO; Michael (Helen) Joseph of Seattle, WA; Gabriel (Desira) Joseph of Lake Charles, LA; Brice Joseph of Lake Charles, LA; Justin (Kobrina) Joseph of Lake Charles, LA; one brother, Herman (Carol) Joseph; George leaves  to cherish in memory, fourteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sebastian and Mable Joseph; In-laws, Ben and Bertha Rogers, two sisters –Joyce Joseph, and Maryanne (Moon) Baker; two daughters-Judy Joseph and Antoinette Joseph and a host of other family members.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 2:00pm under the direction of Stevens' Funeral Home.  Rev. Marvin Durgan officiating.

Shortly after high school, Ralph met and married Curtistene Pipkins and to their union a son was born.
After 25 years of tenure, Ralph retired from Conoco Refinery in Lake Charles, La.  And for several years he worked part-time at the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Department.  Ralph was also a member of the Road Brother's Social Club.  Hobbies of passion were cooking, fishing, bowling, shooting pool and occasionally hunting.
Ralph leaves to treasure his memory: one son, Michael Anthony January (Bridgette) of Cedar Hill, Tx.; two grandsons, Michael Austin and Michael Alex; former wife and life-long friend, Cindy January (extended family daughter, Aisha Williams; two grand-daughters, Armani and Naysia Williams) former wife, Mary January; (extended family two sons, Terrell and Eric Nonette; daughter, Marzetta Nonette-Howell) nephew, Jeffery Martin; great niece, Michelle Cerf as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

His earthly story began on July 18, 1934 at a small town near Eunice, LA. He was reared under the Catholic faith and because he was a devoted man, remained and served within the faith until he could not.
He retired from Huber Oil of  Louisiana in 2001. He completed certificate programs in accounting, auto mechanics, and electronics.
After completing High school at Charles Drew of Eunice, LA, he was drafted by the United States Army. He served 2 years in Korea and returned to Eunice to marry his High school sweetheart, Naomi Green. The couple married and relocated to Lake Charles in 1959 and their union joyfully produced a son, Thomas (Janice), daughters, Anita Deruso (Michael), Lesha Brown (Charles), Vanessa B. Valiare, 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren who will all greatly miss his love, cander, devotion, guidance, and his selflessness.
After meeting JESUS, he was greeted by the love of his life, Naomi, his parents, Joseph Valiare and Effie Mae Guillory Valiare, sisters, Mary Gibbs, Helen Jones and Geneva Valiare and brother, Winson Valiare, along with several other relatives and friends. He awaits the arrival of sister, Martha Gallow, sisters-in-love, Agnes D. Valiare, Jane (Dudley) Stevens, Betty Green, Mattie Jones, and Surrona (Donald) Davis.

Obituary Preview: Allean Williams Morris was born on April 26, 1942 to the late Aline and Ross Williams Sr. in Bayou Chicot, Louisiana. After the passing of her mother, she was reared by her father and paternal grandmother, Sally Williams, whom she affectionately called, “Momma.”
Allean met and married the love of her life, John Clarence Morris on December 18, 1965. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Saint James Baptist Church, located in Bayou Chicot, Louisiana. In March 1978, she joined with Mount Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. H.C. Allison and have been a faithful member serving under the leadership of Rev. Elmore Garner.
Allean loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and siblings; and besides the Lord, they were her greatest delight. She loved to gather with her children, family & friends. Allean’s sense of humor and ability to host large gatherings was second to none.  She was a wonderful host when relatives and friends would come over to visit. She made everyone feel welcomed and made sure they had something to eat, dessert or a cup of coffee.  She enjoyed giving and doing for others, that brought so much joy to her. Her infectious smile and laugh could light up even the darkest of rooms.  She was a very strong woman and the pillar of our family.  She loved cooking, baking, bar-b-quing, sewing, puzzles, listening to gospel songs and gardening.  She was a plant lover and loved working in her flower beds. One of her favorite quotes was “I lean and depend on God.”
She was preceded in death by three brothers; Jerome Williams, Ross Williams Jr., and Robert Williams; two sisters; Betty Williams Tezeno and Gustavia Duhon; her paternal grandparents, Sally and Isiah Williams and one granddaughter, Kiana Morris.
Her legacy will continue through the memories of her loved ones; her husband of fifty-six years, John C. Morris; three sons, Lowell (Katina) Morris of Baytown, Texas, Neal (Sherrick) Morris and Dwayne Morris all of Lake Charles, Louisiana; three daughters, Colleen (Earl) Morris Boutte, Annette Morris both of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Anita Morris of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two brothers, Clyde Williams of Bayou Chicot, Louisiana and Donald Ray Robinson of New Mexico; one sister, Lou Ella Freeman of Lake Charles, Louisiana; one step-daughter, Shirley (Aaron) Adams of Fayetteville, Georgia; two stepsons, Ronald (Stephanie) Morris of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Barry (Tanya) Morris of Mableton, Georgia; nineteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and a hosts of relatives and friends.
