James Francis Doyle - January 29, 1941 - January 15, 2024

Departed: 01/15/2024 (Fresno)
Obituary Preview: James “Jim” Francis Doyle returned home to God on January 15, 2024 just two weeks short of his 83rd birthday. Jim was surrounded by his family who lovingly walked with him during the days before his death. Born to James and Bernice Doyle, Jim grew up in Sacramento. Jim was a man of deep devotion: to God, to Laura, his wife of 58 years, to his children Brian, Maureen, Terese and husband Steve, Michelle and husband David, Kevin and wife Laurie, and Erin and husband Mat, to his grandchildren, Jennifer, Brianna, Brennan, Morgan, Gillian, Killian, Ronan, Jameson and Connor and great grandchildren, Cooper and Penny and to his extended family especially his sisters Patricia Schiele and Sister Mary Katherine Doyle RSM.
Jim was the rock of our family. He was a hard worker, a true steward of the land, humble, kind, loving and an inspiration to many. Jim was a generous man, always wanting to help those in need and touched the lives of so many through his teaching, mentoring, advice, tough love and prayers.
Jim had a great love for creation. After finishing St. Joseph Seminary High School in Santa Cruz, he received a degree in Agronomy at the University of California, Davis. Immediately after his graduation, he was called to serve in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Upon his discharge from service, he began his work as a Field Research Technician for University of California, Davis in the Pomology department where he served until his retirement. His expertise in this niche discipline was marked by mentoring new research professors as well as technicians and developing new varieties of prunes, figs, Asian pears, and stone fruit. He was regarded as an expert in the fruit breeding industry collaborating on many published works.
Family and faith were always first in his life. He was a loving husband, father, brother and a faithful disciple of Christ Jesus. His funeral will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, in Fresno, CA on January 31st at 10 a.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Bishop Gallegos Maternity Home of Sacramento (https://bgmhsacramento.org/support-us) or Poverello House of Fresno (https://poverellohouse.org/).

Albert C James - June 14, 1954 - December 23, 2023

Departed: 12/23/2023 (Fresno)
Obituary Preview: Albert Charles James called AJ by family and friends, was born to Albert and Juanita James on June 14, 1954 in Los Angeles CA, fell asleep in death on December 23, 2023.
AJ was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Juanita James.
He is survived by his two sisters, Venita James and Gail James-Strole as well as a nephew Gary Jones and two nieces Denise Martin and Alesha James, their children, a close cousin Zoria Faye French who helped care for him in his last days, and a host of other relatives and friends.
AJ suffered a cardiac arrest on December 3rd, 2019 and fought his way back. And although he had other health issues he continued to strive to get back on his feet. He never gave up fighting but his body just gave out.
AJ had started learning about Jehovah from Brother Dale Michaels from the local congregation where he lived in Hanford before his heart attack. After his recovery, although he had some memory loss he still remembered Jehovah. He would watch JW Broadcasting with Venita and was always present at the meetings via zoom and in person when they could. AJ enjoyed the meetings and making new friends at the Kingdom Hall. His sister Venita said that when she gave him his tablet and told him he could do a puzzle or one of his learning games he would always open up to a watchtower study.
AJ is now asleep in death but the time will soon come when Jesus will say, “AJ get up” (John 5:28) and he will rise into a beautiful new world without pain and suffering; a world without tears. Just think of a world, a world without tears Where man can live for a thousand years With never a sorrow, an ache or a pain And never a thought of dying again Think of a world when a man plants a vine He can sit in its shade and say, “This is mine” He’ll live in the house that his own hands have made And none will molest or make him afraid Think of a world without bloodshed and strife Where no man dare take another man’s life Where man among man will be united in peace Where malice & hatred will forevermore cease Think of the earth as a globe paradise Where mountains and deserts will dazzle your eyes Beautiful flowers, shrubbery and trees Gay butterflies, songbirds and bees Yes, think! Just as Jehovah God’s word is the truth A man shall return to the days of his youth His flesh shall become as the flesh of a child The words that he speaks will be cheerful & mild Think of a world where the lame man will walk The deaf one will hear, the mute one will talk Where all without sight will no longer be blind The mute one will sing & speak forth his mind Yes, think of a world where each man is a brother Not esteeming himself above that of another Where man among man will be friend among friend In a world without tears that will never end Think of a world where the dead will have risen From their silent cold tombs that held them in prison To live forever, to love and caress Their loved ones and friends in true righteousness Now a world without tears is not just a dream As many a person will make it to seem Just as sure as the Bible is true A world without tears now lies before you And since such a world before you now lies Wouldn’t you like to live in such paradise? And share all the things that our God has in store For all who would do his will ever more? Well, good news of the kingdom is still being sung In every nation, tribe, people and tongue And all who are thirsting for the truth are invited To join this new brotherhood and be united In praising our God, our Savior, our King And giving to him all our love, everything That we might live throughout endless years In a world without sorrow A World Without Tears
AJ had began learning about that new world and began his journey to get there before he fell asleep in death. We hope to see him in that beautiful new world, but for now he can rest. AJ will be greatly missed. Song He Will Call (Job 14:15) 1. Life, like a mist, appears for just a day,
Then disappears tomorrow. All that we are can quickly fade away,
Replaced with tears and sorrow. If a man should die, can he live again? Hear the promise God has made: (CHORUS)
He will call; The dead will answer.
They shall live at his command. For he will have a longing
For the work of his own hand. So have faith, and do not wonder,
For our God can make us stand. And we shall live forever,
As the work of his own hand. 2. Friends of our God, though they may pass away,
Will never be forsaken. All those asleep who in God’s mem’ry stay,
From death he will awaken. Then we’ll come to see all that life can be:
Paradise eternally. (CHORUS)
He will call; The dead will answer.
They shall live at his command. For he will have a longing
For the work of his own hand. So have faith, and do not wonder,
For our God can make us stand. And we shall live forever,
As the work of his own hand. Rest in peace AJ

Mary Ann Ballard - June 29, 1948 - August 21, 2023

Departed: 08/21/2023 (Fresno)
Obituary Preview: Mary Ann Dixon-Ballard was born Tuesday, June 29th, 1948. She came from humble beginnings, her first home being Hackett’s Camp in Fresno, CA. She was born to Mary Ethel Colbert and Thurman Dixon Sr., and was the second of nine children. Beginning at the age of seven, Mary Ann lived with and was raised by her paternal grandmother, Mollie Williams.
As a child, Mary Ann attended Orange Center Elementary School, where she enjoyed kickball, basketball, and track. She went on to attend Irwin Junior High and Edison High School. In her 20’s, she attended Galen Medical College and soon began working as a school nurse for Fresno Unified. In 1973, she started her career at Fresno Community Hospital in the cardiology department, working as a monitor technician and later as a secretary. She retired after 20 years. Mary Ann had an entrepreneurial spirit, and in 1992, started her own daycare. After running a successful daycare, she became the co-owner of the O’Neil Residential Care Facility, which cared for adults with special needs.
In 2006, at the age of 57, Mary Ann moved to Southaven, Mississippi. It was there that she was diagnosed with breast cancer, but it was also where she found her calling. As a member of Brown Missionary Baptist Church, she recognized a need, and became one of the first 20 members of the church’s Cancer Support Ministry in 2009. She worked side-by-side with the founders, helping cancer survivors find resources for treatment, support, and reconstructive surgery after illness. Mary Ann shocked people by saying cancer was the best thing to ever happen to her, and explained that through her suffering, she found her calling in caring for others.
Upon returning to Fresno in 2013, Mary Ann continued serving as a voice for the sickly. She used her medical knowledge and experience to advocate on behalf of patients. She opened her home to adults with special needs and lovingly cared for her own sister, the late Val.
Mary Ann was known for her flawless style. She loved to shop, shoes being her favorite. Her style was the first thing people noticed about her, aside from her beautiful smile. However, that didn’t mean she wasn’t down-to-earth. She enjoyed movies, cooking, baking, traveling, reading, hiking, interior decorating, and most of all, gardening. She truly had a green thumb and was a master at landscaping.
