Obituary Preview: Joseph Ethridge "Bubba" Faith, Jr., passed away at his home in St. Stephens, AL, Thursday, April 14, 2022, at the age of 82.
Bubba was a graduate of Leroy High School as part of the Class of 1957.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of St. Stephens.
After attending the University of Alabama, he returned home to work in a family business.  Around that time, he was introduced by a cousin to his future wife, Sammie. Bubba served in the United States Army National Guard. He worked as a Tub Boat Engineer for 20 years. He later worked as a Pipefitter for Brown and Root where he mentioned many young people entering the construction field.
Bubba's passion was playing pool and teaching others to play. He was known far and wide as a "Pool Shark". He enjoyed listening to gospel and blue grass music. He also enjoyed grafting fruit trees and watching Alabama football and basketball.
Bubba will be missed by family and friends. Obituary Preview: Mary Faye Stewart Beech, 72 years of age, departed this life on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at USA Medical Center, Mobile, AL.  Mary Faye was born December 18, 1949, to the late Robert and Mary Lou Stewart.  She graduated from Leroy High School in 1969.
Mary Faye had a "gift" for helping others and giving to those in need.  This "gift" was one of the reasons she loved house cleaning.  Over the years, Mary Faye touched countless friends and companions while tending to their homes.  She was a humble, one-of-a-kind person with a big heart.
Mary Faye believed it was important for her children to know God.  She always strived to share Gods love with those around her.
Mary Faye's favorite "pastime" was drinking coffee with her friends and spending time with her grandchildren. Obituary Preview: Jerry Wayne Dixon, passed away at the age of 65, Monday April 11, 2022. He graduated from Southern Choctaw Highschool, class of 1975 as Valedictorian of his class.  Jerry played the Tuba in the band at Southern Choctaw Highschool. At one time Jerry had been accepted into the Naval Academy.  He attended University of Livingston and graduated with a Bachelors degree Computer Science and Accounting. Jerry was a teacher who taught Computer Science and Accounting at Jefferson Davis in Atmore, AL., Alabama Southern (Coastal Alabama) in Gilbertown, AL. and University of South Alabama.  He also taught Computer Science and Accounting at The Fountain Correctional Facility in Atmore, AL. Jerry enjoyed many things in life but one in particular was reading.  He loved to read all kinds of books but Huckleberry Finn was his favorite.  Jerry loved listening to Classic Rock and the Old Church Hymns.  His favorite song from the Old Church Hymns was "I'll Fly Away".   Jerry will be missed by many. Obituary Preview: Elouise Grimes Wimberly, 77, passed away on April 7, 2022.  She was a native of Alabama and a resident of Clarke County, Alabama.  Elouise was a member of First Assembly of God Church, Jackson, AL.  She was married to Conrad Wimberly over forty years until he passed away at age 61.  Elouise had been employed with Vanity Fair at one time.  She loved the outdoors and all that went with it, planting vegetable gardens and flower gardens...with her "green thumb."  Elouise was an avid deer hunter killing the biggest buck ever recorded at that time, and received a letter from Congressman, Joe Bonner congratulating her.  Those that knew Elouise would testify that one of her best attributes was that of a "giver."
She helped so many people in her community in such a way that she will always be remembered...especially at Christmas, making sure children around her had gifts.
Survivors include not only her son, Scott Anthony (Melissa) Wimberly and one granddaughter, Gloria; two sisters, Nora Neel and Amelia Golden; but also her best friend, Patricia Clemons and a second loving family for many years, The Maharreys. Obituary Preview: Thelma D Tew, passed away Thursday March 31, 2022 at her home in Chatom, AL., at the age of 85.  She was surrounded by her family when she left this world to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Thelma was born and raised in Georgia.  She attended The Baptist Church in Georgia, where her father preached, when she was a child. Thelma married at age fifteen and had her first child of six at age sixteen.  Thelma received her Real Estate License, from a school in Georgia, while being married and raising her six children. In Thelma's adult years she attended a variety of churches before she made her home church Christian Independent Assembly.   Thelma made sure her children attended and was involved in the Church.  Some of her hobbies were to sew, cook, read, watch game shows and comedies. Her favorite book was the Bible. Thelma didn't have a favorite Bible Verse, she loved them all.  When she was unable to attend church, she enjoyed watching Televangelism on the television.  Even though she was a Homebody she always spoke her mind.  In 2014, Thelma came to visit her daughter and family in Chatom, AL. and never left.  Thelma not only leaves her family and friends behind, she is leaving her furbaby Chihuahua, Prissy.  She will be missed by her family and friends. Obituary Preview: Gay Wedges Weaver, passed away at the age of 76, March 25,2022 at his home.  He was married for 53 years to the love of his life, Maxine Weaver.  Gay worked in the truck driving and construction business for many years and retired as a construction worker.  His handle name while working as a truck driver was "Boy Blue".  Gay loved the outdoors.  He kept his yard and vehicles Immaculate.  Gay loved watching wrestling, game shows, westerns and listening to Blue Grass music.  His all time favorite hobby was watching his grandson, Brok, fight.  Gay was Brok's biggest fan. Obituary Preview: Betty Grimes Stoker, passed away Tuesday March 22, 2022 at the age of 84.  She was a native and resident of Washington County and graduated from Leroy High School in 1956.  Betty retired after working 43 years as a seamstress at Vanity Fair.  She was a member of Midway Assembly of God Church where she served as Sunday School/Church Secretary for 40 plus years.  Betty enjoyed working in her yard, specifically mowing the lawn and keeping it perfectly manicured.  She kept a journal for years.  Anytime you wanted to know the day and year of a past event you could ask her.  Betty had an infectious laugh that was recognizable by everyone who knew her. Obituary Preview: Johnny Grey Moseley, 87, passed away Sunday March 20, 2022 at his residence in St. Stephens, Alabama.  Johnny Grey was born August 27, 1934.  He attended First Baptist Church of Leroy and was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend.  He graduated from Leroy High School in 1955 and worked at Olin Chemical over 42 years.  Johnny Grey was a master mason, 33rd Degree Honor Award, of the St. Stephens Masonic Lodge 81. Johnny Grey is preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Grady and Fannie Moseley; his sister, Natha Lee Dumas; and his daughter, Debby Jackson.  He is survived by his wife, Judy Moseley; one daughter, Marlene Davis (Byron); three granddaughters, Amy Harbuck (Sam), Sydney Scoggins (Stephen), and Meg Davis; four great grandchildren, Dakoda Harbuck, Travis Harbuck, Monroe Scoggins, and Deborah Eleanor Harbuck; one brother, Chester Dean Moseley; two sisters, Carrie Murel Stanford and Vivian Rawlings; two step-sons, Brian Matheson (Valarie) and Chris Matheson (Amy); three step-grandchildren, Austin Matheson (Emily), Jordan Matheson (Taylor), and Lily Matheson; three step-great grandchildren, Eli Matheson, Charlee Matheson, and Beck Matheson.

Gloria Faye Loper - April 15, 1958 - March 16, 2022

Obituary Preview: Gloria Faye Loper, passed away at the age of 63 on Wednesday March 16, 2022.  She grew up in Choctaw County and attended Choctaw County High School.  During her childhood years she attended Lusk Baptist Church.  Gloria met the love of her life, Travis, at "The Pier" in Choctaw County.  They were married shortly after.  Gloria and Travis have been married for 28 years.  Gloria worked in the Medical Field as a CNA at Washington County Hospital and Nursing Home for many years.  She loved the outdoors so much that she fished on the Tombigbee River, Lake Washington in MS or anywhere she could throw a hook, hunted deer, grew a vegetable garden and raised a farm that consisted of two donkeys and cows.  Gloria and her husband loved to travel.  They traveled to thirty plus states, some included South Dakota, Las Vegas Nevada and Oregon where they would stay in cabins.  Gloria loved attending Rodeo's, watching Mud Bog racing and going to Hank William Jr. Concerts.  She loved her "Fur Babies" Dixie, Brandi, Bama and Delta.  When Gloria wasn't outside she could be found watching Mystery, Sci Fi and Western movies.  Gloria " The Total Woman"  will be greatly missed by her husband, family, and friends. William "Billy" Edward Moseley - November 09, 1942 - March 10, 2022

Obituary Preview: William "Billy" Edward Moseley, 79 years of age, passed on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at Southern Living Personal Care.  Billy was born November 9, 1942, to the late Feddie and Marie Turner Moseley.  He graduated from Washington County High School and was an avid sports player.  During high school he played football, basketball and baseball.  Billy received a football scholarship from the University of Alabama where he received a Bachelor Degree in Commerce.  Billy was a member of the Army ROTC where he received an honorable discharge.
Billy met Loretta Mae Williams at Washington County High School and were later married for 43 years.  Billy and Loretta had one son, the late William Brent Moseley.
During the 1990's, Billy owned and operated "Moseley Service Center" in Jackson, AL.  He loved being at his store and offered a variety of services to the Jackson community.  When Billy wasn't at his store, he enjoyed watching sports, westerns and war movies.  He especially liked deer and turkey hunting.  Billy also enjoyed his dogs "Bear", a Labrador Retriever, and "Shorty".  On one occasion, Billy was cutting grass on a riding mower and Bear jumped into his lap and they both landed in the pond.
As a young child, Billy attended Pine Level Baptist Church in Hobson, AL and attended Springhill Baptist Church in Chatom, AL during his adult life. Obituary Preview: Virgie Carpenter Walker, passed away Sunday morning February 27, 2022 at the age of 91. Virgie was born and raised at her parent’s house in Millry, Alabama. She was a Graduate of Washington County High School. After graduation, she moved to Jackson, Alabama where she went to work as a switchboard operator for the telephone company. She soon met and married the love of her life, Louis "Junior" Walker. Virgie and Junior were married for 66 years. The early years of their marriage were spent moving from south Florida to west Texas following Junior's work in the oil fields. Virgie would make her husband homemade biscuits for breakfast before work and packed his lunch each day. Every afternoon, she would make a fresh pot of coffee and watch for her husband to pull into the driveway where she greeted him with a cup of coffee and the newspaper. They moved to Leroy, Alabama and raised six beautiful children. While her children attended Leroy High School, she was member of the PTO and Band Boosters. Virgie sewed wedding dresses for her girls, cheerleader uniforms, school costumes, and even swimsuits. Virgie was a member of First Baptist Church of Leroy where she was active in Sunday School, VBS, WMU, and VIP's. Virgie was faithful to take her children to church every Sunday where they each developed a relationship with Christ. When asked about her favorite Bible verse she responded that she loved them all. Virgie enjoyed gardening and canning all types of fruits and vegetables. She also enjoyed planting flowers, cooking, sewing and reading books. One of her favorite authors was Billy Graham. She served on the Leroy Beautification Committee because of the love she had for her community. Following her parent’s example, she welcomed everyone into her home where they were offered a seat at her table. She was very giving and was like a mother and grandmother to many children in the community. Virgie will be missed by all. Obituary Preview: Evan Shane Allen "Skully", passed away at the age of 52 February 5, 2022 at Washington County Hospital in Chatom, AL.  Skully graduated with the class of '87 from Washington County High School where he played football for the "Bulldogs".  He graduated with his Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Alabama Southern Community College.  Skully was introduced to Phyllis, his wife of 23 years, by Phyllis's daughters.  They met in October 1998 and were married February 1999. One of their favorite foods they liked together was chinese food.   Skully worked as a Iron Worker for the local 798, Knife Forging and drove a Dump truck.  His truck driving buddies nicknamed him "Quake".  Everyone else outside of Truck driving nicknamed him "Skully" from a skull tattoo he had.  Skully enjoyed sitting by the fire with family and friends socializing and fishing on the Tombigbee River for catfish especially at night.  He also enjoyed playing card games, one in particular was phase ten.  Skully grew vegetable gardens that included tomatoes, corn and jalapeno peppers.  He loved to watch Swamp People and Forging Fire on television.  Skully enjoyed music so much that he would karaoke even though he and others knew he couldn't sing.  Some of his favorite bands were Lynyrd Skynyrd and CCR (Creedence Clearwater Revival). Skully was a very likeable person.  He will be missed by his family, friends, and dogs ( BitBit, ReeRee, Lokie, Bruce and Rambo). Obituary Preview: Robert Whatley "Robbie" 53, passed away on January 18, 2022.  He was born in Butler Alabama and raised in Thomasville, Alabama.  Robbie played football and baseball while attending Clarke County High  School.  During his childhood he had a dog named "Hoot".  The nickname "Doot" had been given to Robbie by his friends.  When seeing Robbie and Doot they would say "Here comes Hoot and Doot".  Robbie attended Friendship Baptist Church during his childhood.  During his teenage years, Robbie learned about the Logging Industry from Thompson Logging, his stepdads' company.   After High School, Robbie served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.  He enjoyed living in Germany where he applied for and received his Dual Citizenship and resided in Germany for 5 years after serving for the United States Army.  Robbie learned to speak the German language and enjoyed watching Tennis.  After Germany, Robbie moved back to Thomasville, Alabama, where he met the love of his life Julie.  Robbie and Julie got married March 26, 1995.  Both Julie and Robbie raised their daughter, Hannah.  Robbie worked in the Logging Industry for many years.  He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, arrowhead hunting, growing fruit trees and planting a vegetable garden.  Robbie would use "Fish Water" to water his Vegetable Garden.  He had quite a "Green Thumb".  Julie and Robbie have a Blue Nose Pitt dog named "Loki" that Robbie loved and treated him like a member of the family.  Robbie was a likeable person and loved his family.  He will be missed by his wife of 20 years, his daughter, his dog and many more family members and friends. Obituary Preview: William Brantley Henderson, 76, passed away Friday January 7, 2022.  Brantley grew up in Citronelle, Alabama, where he attended Citronelle High School and played football.  He met his wife, Roberta, at a Skating Rink in Citronelle Alabama and had been inseparable ever since. Brantley and Roberta got married and raised four children.  They were married for many years and both were a member of Cedar Creek Holy Church of God.  He would fill in with the Preacher at Cedar Creek Holy Church of God as a Lay preacher where he loved to teach the Word of God.  Brantley was a hard working man who provided for his family.  He worked at Benders Shipyard and for Brown and Root as a Foreman.  When Brantley wasn't working, either at Ciba Geigy, on a tractor, or on a International Four Wheel Drive, he was camping on the banks of Cedar Creek and Escatawpa River and fishing for Bream, Red Belly, Catfish and Gargoyle Fish. Brantley also liked to Deer hunt.  He enjoyed raising Catfish in his ponds. Brantley also enjoyed raising Hogs, Gators, Rabbit and Crawfish.  Brantley also enjoyed Crabbing on the Causeway. He would give away vegetables that came from his garden to family and friends.  Brantley didn't cook but one thing that he could cook was Rabbit Stew " Rabbit Gumbo".  He didn't like to be inside, but if he had to be inside he would watching Andy Griffith,  Wheel of Fortune, News or sleeping.   Brantley loved to drink coffee and was called "WB" or "Brant" by his buddies.  He will be missed by all especially by his children and grandchildren for his "Rabbit Gumbo".

Ruth Blount - November 02, 1928 - December 22, 2021

Obituary Preview: Mary Ruth Irby Blount, 93, passed away on December 22, 2021 at the Jackson Health Care Facility in Jackson, AL.  She was born on November 2, 1928, in Yukon, Oklahoma.  During her teen years, her family moved to Millry, Alabama.  After graduating from Millry High School, she began work at the local dry goods store owned by brothers Fred and Mardis Blount, Jr.  Eventually she entered a courtship with Mardis that led to a marriage that lasted 51 years.  Ruth and Mardis later moved to McIntosh, AL where they raised their sons and developed many lifelong friendships.  They enjoyed square dancing, traveling, and spending time at their vacation home in Orange Beach.  She attended business school where she learned typing and stenography.  After completing her studies, she began work at Searcy Hospital.  Later, she worked at Ciba-Geigy and remained there until her retirement.  Ruth was an active member of the McIntosh United Methodist Church where she served her Lord by teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, working with the MYF, and the UMW.  She volunteered with the American Red Cross and the McIntosh Branch of the Washington County Public Library and was a member of the McIntosh Women's Club and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.  She took numerous art classes where she learned to draw and paint. She became quite the artist and even challenged herself to paint and sketch her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  At one time, she painted and sold sport themed wall art.  In 2013, Ruth moved to the Jackson Health Care Facility in Jackson, Alabama and resided there until her death.  Her time there was spent making friends, playing bingo, attending worship activities, and using her talents to make bulletin boards and create art.  Ruth was a kind and compassionate woman who cherished her family, her friends, and her dachshunds.
