Sammie Faye lived a life rich in faith, family, and friendship. Baptized into Christ at an early age, she worshiped at the Harkless Street Church of Christ congregation which later became South Oak Church of Christ in Henderson, Texas. After moving to Mesquite, Texas, Sammie Faye worshiped at Greenville Avenue Church of Christ in Richardson, Texas. Her commitment to church ministries and service was a testament to her unwavering faith in God and her dedication to living the Gospel. She touched many lives through her work as a youth minister at her home congregations and within the East Texas area youth congregations, while participating in numerous church singing groups, and by inspiring many with her devotion to her faith and her family, always leading by example and encouraging others to deepen their faith.

Sammie Faye also loved her family. The first of nine children, she took her big sister role in stride. Her wisdom, humor, beauty, helpfulness, and dependability made her the kind of person her family enjoyed and wanted to be around. She loved all of her nieces and nephews and cherished those relationships. Married December 12, 1975, Sammie Faye was a loving wife to Gerald L. Sarpy, Sr. for 38 years and was a phenomenal mom to Gerald and April and to so many more who saw her as a mother figure.

Sammie Faye frequently told stories about her days at Hill High School, her friends in the class of 1967, and her neighbors from Redbud Street to Webster Drive to Lewis Street; those friendships have endured throughout the years. Sammie Faye is constantly described as someone who made people feel as though they belonged. Her memory will live on in the lives of her friends, family, children, and grandchildren.Preceded in death by her loving husband, Gerald L. Sarpy, Sr., her parents, Isaac Sr. and Dixie Garland, and two brothers Isaac Garland Jr. (Florence), Nolan Garland, two nephews, Jeremy and Isaac Garland III, and a great niece, Andrea Rattiff.

Sammie Faye, beloved mother, GiGi, sister, auntie, and friend, will be cherished by her son, Gerald L. Sarpy, II and wife Jaclyn Sarpy; her daughter, April J. Sarpy; granddaughters Reagan Elise Sarpy and Kennedy Grace Sarpy; was adored by her siblings: Norris Garland (Lana), Ina Lary, (Thomas), Dixie Freeny (Paul), Evelyn Brown (David), Elieen Johnson (Michell), LaShonda Chambers (Fred), and a sister-in-law, Cora Garland, as well as two step-daughters, Blanche Brown (Sam) and Geri Cook (Nelson), and will be missed by a host of nephews, nieces, and friends, including a close family friend, Shamekic Scott, who loved Sammie Faye as her own mother. Sammie Faye was revered by a circle of friends, community and church members who felt the warmth of her lovingkindness. She was known for her many talents, including being an amazing singer and seamstress and for her love of children that she displayed while working within the Henderson Independent School District. She will be remembered for the love she had for her family, immediate and extended, leaving a legacy of love, laughter, conscientiousness, and deep regard for the lives of others. Obituary Preview: Billy Wayne Sheppard, the sixth child of M.T. and Margaret Louise Sheppard, was born on January 14, 1958, in the close-knit community of Fairview, Reklaw, Texas. From his earliest days, Billy embraced his faith, accepting Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age and becoming an active member of the Anadarko Christian Church. His dedication to his faith led him to serve as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and lieutenant, touching the lives of many with his kindness and wisdom.

Billy's journey continued as he graduated from Henderson High School in 1977, where he excelled both on the football field and track. Beyond his academic achievements, Billy was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his various roles in employment, including at the Henderson Clay Brick Plant, in the oil fields, and in road construction.

Outside of work, Billy found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. His passion for gardening was evident in the beautiful fruits of his labor, which he generously shared with anyone who showed interest. Billy's green thumb and generosity touched the lives of many, spreading joy and abundance wherever he went.

Billy Wayne Sheppard was a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, M.T. and Louise Sheppard, and his sisters Wanda, Viola, and Margaret Sue.

He is survived by his three brothers, B.W. Swanson (Jerry) of Lancaster, Texas, L.D. Sheppard "Lonnie" (Wanda) of Tennessee Colony, Texas, and Albert Paul Sheppard of Reklaw. Billy also leaves behind a host of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives were enriched by his presence. Obituary Preview: On Monday, April 26, 1943, in Henderson, Texas, Mr. Sammy & Mrs. Artilia Franklin Ramey welcomed their beautiful baby girl, Mary Jewel Ramey into their world. Her smile melted everyone’s hearts. Mary was affectionately known by her family, Jewel and she was very much a jewel.

Jewel attended Henderson Hill High Colored School. She was a confessed soldier for the Lord at an early age when she joined Arlem Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She later attended Miracle Tabernacle, and she also became an ordained evangelist at Lighthouse of Faith. Mary also followed her calling to serve the Lord by volunteering at multiple homeless shelters and facilities. She became an entrepreneur in the cleaning industry after retiring from her career as a certified fork lift driver for Anderson Hickey for over 38 years.

Mary Jewel met and married Mr. Lennon Neapolean Creer Sr. and to this union, six children were born; Lennon Jr, Dianne, Calvin, Katina, Alvin, and Carl. Later in life, she met and married Mr. Jobie Taylor.

Jewel was a true fan of the Dallas Cowboys and her favorite time of year was Christmas. She wanted everyone to have a big Christmas. She loved taking care of her family and they loved her. She enjoyed listening to gospel music and the sounds of Dottie Peoples, Shirley Caesar, and quartet groups. She was a diligent giver and always showed love and care to everyone.

Jewel was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Sammy Joe Ramey Jr, Charles Ramey, and Son Ramey; sister, Bessie Ramey, and two sons, Carl Pinkston and Alvin Lynn Creer.

Mary Jewel Ramey was received into her Heavenly Father’s arms on Sunday, December 10, 2023 in Plano, Texas, surrounded by her loving family.

In 1954, Clara met and married Willie L. Jordan, this union birth eleven beautiful children. Clara was a housewife and on occasion worked domestically. She loved cooking for her family and passed this love to her children.

Later in life, Clara worked in healthcare and hospitality for several years. In 2000, Clara married John Gardner, becoming Mrs. Clara Jordan Gardner.

On Tuesday, September 05, 2023, Clara Jordan Gardner was welcomed into her Eternal home of Glory. She was greeted by her parents, Ora and Celo Ervin; her brothers, Richard Ervin, Jeremiah Ervin, Frank Ervin, James Ervin and Cecil Ervin; her sisters, Norma Faye Medford, Mary Ervin, Lee Ora Gipson and Ella Williams; her husband, John Gardner; and her sons, Lonnell Jordan, Maurice Gardner, Larry Jordan and Donnell Jordan.

Thomas Rene O’Quinn, 62, previously of Henderson, Texas passed away suddenly on Sunday on August 06, 2023, in Dallas, Texas. He was born the 7th child to the parentage of Roman Manuel O’Quinn and Blanche Wesley O’Quinn, in Henderson, Texas on November 08, 1959. As a child he became affectionately known as “Tubby”, to his family and friends.

Thomas was reared in Rusk County, and attended schools in the Henderson Independent School District, where he would graduate from high school in 1978. While in high school Thomas ran track. Upon graduation he worked at Cush-Pak for many years as a forklift operator while attending Kilgore Junior College. Thomas would eventually relocate to Dallas, Texas and develop a career in construction as a sandblaster for many years until his health failed him.

Art was the one simple pleasure of life that he enjoyed to, help get away from the craziness of this world. He also enjoyed a good conversation, which he had no problem turning into a debate with anyone.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents Roman and Blanche O’Quinn; sisters, Billie Evelyn Potts, Loretta O’Quinn; brother Virgil “Shag” O’Quinn.

HIS LIFE MOTTO: A man will lead his home with honor when he humbly allows God to lead him.

His Education: attended Estacado High and graduated from Dunbar High Class of 78/79. Band and trucks were his passions then. RC completed over 80 hours of college courses that included music education and marching in the Texas Tech “Going Band from Raiderland” for three-years. He completed courses toward becoming a substance abuse counselor. He is a member of Phi Mu Alpha. He earned a Master Level Peace Officer Certification/Licensure, Advanced Investigator, and Compliance Certification from the Counsel of Licensing Enforcement and Regulation. He co-authored Administrative Code 189 (2005); he quietly organized and served with COPS with Books Program (1993-2000). He coached a youth basketball team in Seagraves. He is adamant parent supporter for Eagles football, baseball, basketball teams, band and LCU Music Education Department His passions and professions:

Family: RC poured all that he had into his family. He invested in each one of them to support them in becoming the best person that they could be. He beamed whether they were demonstrating how to fix their car, on the honor roll, playing an instrument, singing on stage, displaying their art, winning a wrestling match, participating in a political campaign, or excelling in the sports arena. He smiled the biggest when they were being the best that they could be and not giving up.

Law was his passion and profession: RC fulfilled that purpose through many years of service in law enforcement at the city, county, and state levels. He earned an Advance Peace Officer’s license for the State of Texas. He proudly served at the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office - Deputy Sheriff, the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners - Compliance Officer, and the City of Seagraves Police Department - Patrol Officer. After retirement from law enforcement, he pursued his other passion of being a truck driver (18-wheeler trucking which allowed him to travel from the Midwest to the east coast).

To meet him is to remember him because if you spent any time in his presence, you were going to learn something about something including Star Trek. He was always willing to share his knowledge. He would tell you about his grown children and his grandchildren. His love for vehicles was well known as a friend said, “I would come by just to see what he got parked in the driveway and to hear the story about it”.

He is a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, son-in-law, brother-in-law, father-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend. His sense of humor, perspective on life, and overall presence will be greatly missed.

On January 1, 1934, a beautiful baby girl was born in Overton, Texas, on Motley Drive, to the proud parentage of Mr. Hubert Blaine and Mrs. Maudie Melviney Liedy. They called her, Frankie Ozelia.

Frankie graduated from London Colored High School in 1951 where she was a star basketball and softball player. She loved dramatice and singing in the school chorus. She later attended and graduated from Texas College in 1956 where she was one of the High Stepping Steerettes.

Frankie began her career in education in Ft. Worth, Texas as a 1st and 5th grade teacher. She went on to teach Social Studies and Reading at Brownsboro ISD. She began teaching 5th grade at Overton ISD and also provided aide services in the library. In the library, she helped her good friend, Mrs. Linda Dudley computerize all of the books on both campuses, where everyone loved Mrs. Frankie.

Early in life, she joined Scott’s Memorial CME Church at age 11 where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She sang with the Scott’s Memorial CME senior choir and was a stewardess and President of the Missionary Society for twenty plus years. She always made sure that the Palm Sunday Tea was a success.

The Lord welcomed Frankie into his ever loving arms on Tuesday, May 2, 2023.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Hubert Liedy; Sisters, Maxine Sheppard and Wynema Scott; Brothers, Rev. Hubert B. Liedy Jr, Tyrus Wilson Liedy, and Ursel Liedy; Nephews, Billy, Don, Randy, and Martin Jr.

Aunt Sissy loved gardening and she was a Master Gardener and a member of the Gregg County National Garden Club in Longview, Texas for more than 13 years. She was also an active member of the Stamp Gift Card Club for over 5 years.

She achieved her Master’s Degree in Nutritional Health from Stephen F. Austin in 1984. She was a Registered Dietician for over 20 years with St. Michaels in Texarkana.

Aunt Sissy was preceded in death by her parents, Columbus D. Spurlock & Marjorian Wallace Spurlock and her sister, Pam Spurlock Dupree (deceased October 2022) of Longview, Tx.

Karen leaves to cherish her beautiful memories; Sister, Sandra Spurlock of Beckville, TX ; Brother, Stacy(Chanel) Jernigan of Las Vegas, NV; Grandchildren, Kara & Zack McLaughlin (Beckville,TX), Katy, Kenny, Gracie, Benjamin and BrookLynn McLaughlin of Tatum, TX; Great-Grandchild, Khilyn McLaughlin of Beckville, TX; Nephews (but more like sons), Shane (Tisha) McLaughlin of Beckville, TX, Bryan (Ashley) McLaughlin of Tatum, TX Paul Dupree; Niece, Sarah(Erik) Nipper, and numerous cousins, gardening friends, and extended family who loved her dearly.
