Fred Cantrell - April 28, 1938 - March 17, 2024

Departed: 03/17/2024 (Canton)
Obituary Preview: Freddie Lee Cantrell, of Sixes community, died at his home March 17, 2024. He was just shy of his 86th birthday.
Fred was the first-born child of William Lewie Cantrell and Lilly Elithealene (Allen), born on April 28, 1938.
Fred was a 1956 graduate of Canton High School. He played baseball in high school, and briefly in the MLB minor leagues. He had a life-long love of the game, whether playing, coaching little leagues, or watching Georgia Tech or Atlanta Braves on television.
Fred fronted a rockabilly band out of high school and had the opportunity to play with several notable talents of the time, to include Billy Joe Royal and Wanda Jackson. His band once opened for Jerry Lee Lewis. He co-owned a stock car driven by JW Barnes in the early 70’s and enjoyed weekend racing.
He married his high school sweetheart Bobbie Jo Hillhouse in 1964. They shared 44 years of marriage prior to her death in 2008.
Fred was self-employed, and co-owned and operated several local businesses, to include South Canton Electric Company, South Canton Car Wash, Colony Brokers, Inc., and H&C Builders, Inc. A product of Appalachian economic depression, Fred took pride in his self-reliance and individualism (which meant the kids were tortured with gardening and canning every summer).
He spent his free time and retirement as an outdoor sportsman. He hunted and fished most of the North American continent with his Sixes buddies.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with Pastor Dottie Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Sixes United Methodist Church Cemetery.
