Loretta Pauline Parker - January 15, 1938 - May 10, 2024

Departed: 05/10/2024 (Story City)
Obituary Preview: Loretta Pauline Parker (LeRoy), 86, joined her savior Jesus Christ on May 10, 2024, after a long and gracefully fought battle with ALS. Loretta was born on January 15, 1938, to Bessie and Chester LeRoy in Peoria, IL. She married Robert M. Parker on March 1, 1958, and they started a family, moving around the country to IL, WI, TN, KS, VA and finally settling in Story City, IA. Bob preceded Loretta in death on March 15, 2022. Bob and Loretta are survived by their 5 children, Robert (Dousman, WI), Sharon (Alan) Eggenberger (Ames), Joanne MacVey (Florence, KY), Roger (Susan) (Story City) and Rebecca (Lonny) Witthuhn, Story City, 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Loretta was devoted to community involvement and loyal friendship. She was a past chairman of Scandinavian Days and a long-time participant and supporter. She helped organize and maintain a community garden for many years. In her 60s she redirected her love of community into political action and began volunteering her time and energy to the Story County GOP. She marched in many, many parades in support of local candidates, hung yard signs, made phone calls and formed personal friendships with numerous candidates and their families. In addition to community action, Loretta was a member of Grace United Methodist Church since the 1970s and devoted countless hours participating in groups and teaching children. The strong friendships she made during all of these activities continued throughout her life, and she cherished them.
Still, her community involvement was dwarfed by her devotion to her family. She taught us resilience in difficult times, how to celebrate everything, how to laugh at yourself, how to open your home to others and how to behave with dignity and self-control when warranted. She gave a home to 8 doggies, most from animal shelters, numerous stray kitties, and a few hamsters and gerbils. Her Christmases were a child’s dream and her Sunday night mustard steak and homemade french fries were absolutely legendary. She never forgot a birthday for all 35 descendants.
Loretta leaves behind a legacy of love for children, animals, flowers, more flowers, community, friends and above all, her Lord. We are forever blessed by her love and in awe of her example of a life well lived.

Howard Wallace Reisetter - January 03, 1932 - January 19, 2024

Departed: 01/19/2024 (Story City)
Obituary Preview: Howard Wallace Reisetter was born on January 3, 1932 to Archie and Percy (Bergeson) Reisetter. He attended Rose Grove School No. 7 and graduated from Radcliffe High School with the class of 1950. Howard went to Waldorf College where he met the love of his life, Naomi (Erickson) Reisetter. Howard enlisted in the United States Navy early in 1951. He helped his dad on the farm that year and on Dec. 25, 1951 Howard and Naomi were united in marriage at Gilbert Lutheran Church.
When he was discharged from the navy May 4, 1955, he and Naomi returned to Iowa first living in Jewell, for about a year then moving to Gilbert for another year or so before settling in Story City, where he worked with his father-in-law Lloyd at Erickson Plumbing and Heating. In 1966 Howard bought the business and changed the name to Reisetter Plumbing and Heating. For the next 60 years, Howard served Story City and the surrounding area repairing and installing furnaces, water lines, etc. With Naomi and some of the kids, Howard also built 7 houses in Story City. In later years, he also worked for the City of Story City in the water department and then at Story City Memorial Hospital. Howard enjoyed visiting with people and never knew a stranger. He loved to read in many genres and was particularly interested in the historical eras of the U.S. Civil War and World War II. He and Naomi also enjoyed playing golf and traveling, especially to Civil War battlefields, monuments, reading historical plaques and markers along the way. One of their goals was to visit as many of the presidential libraries as they could. They were part of a card club for many years, and enjoyed cribbage, pinnacle and 500 with friends and family. They also had many picnics, and went camping, canoeing, and bicycling together. Although Howard was not really a nature enthusiast, he good-naturedly supported Naomi in her many plans for such excursions, reveling in the fun and enjoyment of being with those he loved. Howard’s sense of humor found delight in seeing the humorous in the ordinary; his enjoyment and laughter were contagious. In the late 80s, Howard started carrying Lifesaver mints in his pocket and most of the grandkids knew he would have one if they asked. They are still affectionately known as “Grandpa Reisetter mints,” and probably always will be!
Howard was raised in the Lutheran faith tradition, and continued to live that faith throughout his life. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Radcliffe. Howard and Naomi worshiped weekly throughout their married life, becoming members of local congregations in the various locations they lived, and for the past 60+ years they were members of St. Petri Evangelical Lutheran Church in Story City. Howard volunteered in many ways at St. Petri and at Riverside Bible Camp. Cursillo retreats for couples at Riverside in the 1980s strengthened his marriage and faith.
Howard and Naomi raised 5 children together and also welcomed many young people into their home over the years, including several foster children, one foreign exchange student, Mari Sarparanta, Helsinki, Finland, and several college students when housing was needed.
Howard passed away Friday January 19, 2024 at Bethany Life in Story City at the age of 92.
