Obituary Preview: Jim Rucker, 89, of Delaware passed away peacefully May 13, 2024, at Willow Brook Christian Village in Delaware surrounded by his loving family.

He was born September 1, 1934, in Richwood to the late George and Ruth (Bierce) Rucker. He served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserves. On May 4, 1956, he married the love of his life, Evelyn Hunt. Together they shared 68 years of marriage.

Jim was a pressman for Independent Print Shop in Delaware for forty years and was very proud of the fact that he was able to print the program for the Little Brown Jug. Jim was the last remaining original member of the Hamburger Inn 10 o'clock Coffee Club. He enjoyed watching Ohio State sports, bowling, golfing, and playing euchre. Jim was an elder and dedicated member of the Delaware Church of Christ. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Evelyn; daughters, Brenda Belville and Donna (Les) Parker; grandchildren, Brad Belville, Caitlin (Gary) Duncan, Alyssa (Andy) Walton, Kendra Cole, Tanya Parker and Sarah Parker; great-grandchildren, Gabe Belville, Owen and Iris Duncan, Savannah Vines, Jackson Walton, and Annabelle, Adrienne, Donavon, and Arielle Cole; sisters, Mary Johnson and Leona Webb; and brother Dick Rucker. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers George Rucker and Harold Rucker.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 20 from 1:30 P.M. - 2:30 P.M. at the Delaware Church of Christ, 71 OH-203, Delaware, Ohio, where services celebrating his life will be held at 2:30 P.M. with Jay-ar Miclat officiating. Burial will follow in Radnor Cemetery.

Barbara was born on March 8, 1986 to Fred Loughry and Kathleen Loughry (Wright) in Westerville, Ohio.

Barbara met her husband Matthew Squires in 2003 online. They were married in 2011 in Las Vegas.

Barbara and Matthew had two sons Matthew “M.J.” Squires J.R. and Charles “Charlie” Squires. Barbara was a homemaker, but she was no ordinary homemaker. Barbara was passionate in her care for her sons and her husband, her kids being something she was so proud of. There was nothing she would not do for them. Barbara’s passion extended into all facets of her life; she was fully invested in everything that she did. She loved to explore parks and nature, read true crime novels, and she loved teaching her children through homeschool. She was very involved with her children’s schooling, and even met other homeschool moms at a club to discuss what their children were learning. Barbara was a

fiery, kind, generous, selfless, dedicated and grateful person.

Barbara joins her father, Fred Loughry in rest. Barbara is survived by her husband Matthew Squires; sons Matthew Squires J.R. and Charles Squires; mother Kathleen “Kathy” Loughry; sisters Jenny (Jimmy) Loughry and Missy Loughry; brother Ryan Rice; nieces Cassidy and Joella; nephews Jacob, Jimmy and Braden; dogs Lola and Callie; as well as numerous

cousins and friends.

A memorial gathering will take place at a future date.

She was born September 1, 1942 in Athens, Ohio to the late Gerve and Bertha Hawk and graduated from Columbus South High School. On April 8, 1988 she married Harold Longshore. Together they shared 33 years of marriage before his passing in 2021.

Pat enjoyed camping, playing tennis, and going to flea markets and craft shows.

Left to cherish her memory are her step-children, Cheryl Wampler (Charles Crabtree), Linda Johnson, Gary Longshore, David Longshore, and Harry Longshore Jr.; grandchildren, Chris and Chad Wampler, Jason, Joey, and Stevie Johnson, Corey and Tory Longshore; many great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jeanie Hildreth; several nieces and nephews and best friend, Darlene Miller.

In addition to her parents and husband, Pat was also preceded in death by her sisters-in-law, Nancy Youkam and Barbara Miller and two infant brothers.

Joseph V. Hemmerle, Jr. - February 07, 1933 - May 07, 2024

Obituary Preview: Joseph V. Hemmerle Jr., age 91, of Delaware, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Ohio Living Sarah Moore Home in Delaware.

Joe was born on February 7, 1933, in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Joseph V. and Bertha M. (Koers) Hemmerle. He was raised by his beloved stepmother, Mary E. (Miller) Hemmerle. Joe earned an Engineering Degree from the University of Cincinnati and proudly served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army.

While attending college he fell in love with Caroll Fischer and they were wed on August 20, 1960. Side by side, they raised a family outside Cincinnati on North Pisgah Drive. They cared for each other, as well as their daughters, Terri and Vicki, and traveled throughout the World. After 55 wonderful years of marriage, Caroll sadly passed away in 2015.

Joe retired as a project engineer after 40 years with Cincinnati Milacron. He kept busy in retirement: He and Caroll spent 10 years RV'ing, making two trips across the United States, in addition to trips to both Alaska and Hawaii. For five summers they could be found at Alum Creek State Park, where they were both VIPs. Winters were spent in the Orlando area, where they thoroughly enjoyed Walt Disney World.

More than anything, Joe treasured time spent with his family. He used his vacation time from work to spend weeks at the county Fair supporting his daughters’ showing of horses for 4-H. Summer weekends were spent at local horse shows, trailering the horses to campgrounds, or coaching/attending Vicki’s soccer games.

His love for his grandchildren was evident as he was always there to witness and participate in their many activities and ballgames over the years. You could count on hearing Joe’s cane bang against the hardwood if an errant referee made a call that was unfair to the Buckeye Valley Barons.

Ever the engineer, he was always tinkering at something, whether the boat he built with his father growing up, the bar he built with his daughter, or the play set for his grandchildren later in life. He loved a hot cup of black coffee and never found a meal that a heavy helping of Heinz ketchup couldn’t make better.

Joe was a parishioner at St. Mary Catholic Church and lived a life centered on four things: faith, family, food, and the flag-a proud American indeed. He will be remembered for his dedication, warm heart, and loyal ways, but most of all for his love of family.

Those left to cherish his memory include daughters Terri (Joseph) Roden of Delaware, and Vicki Hemmerle (Sue Saltalamacchia) of Evergreen, CO, and grandchildren Amanda Roden (Zac Davis), Patrick, and Nicholas Roden.

A gathering of friends and family will be held Thursday, May 16th from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Dr. at W. William St., Delaware, Ohio 43015, where military honors provided by the Delaware County Veterans Association will be observed at 6:45, followed by a meal of Joe's favorites eats in the Community Room at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, May 17th at 1:00 pm at St. Mary Catholic Church, 82 E. William St., Delaware, Ohio 43015. Inurnment will take place Monday, May 20th at 9:00 am at the Dayton National Cemetery. He was born April 29, 1933 in Delaware County to the late Asa and Mildred (Sines) Piatt and graduated from Berlin High School in 1951 where he enjoyed playing basketball. On August 23, 1952, he participated and won the tractor rodeo at the Delaware County Fair. He also showed cattle at the Delaware County and Ohio State Fairs.

Bound to the earth from the day of his birth, Wayne was a lifelong farmer raising cattle, sheep and sowing the ground. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.

Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Shirley Drake of Albany; nieces, Deborah (Carl “Ed”) Spencer of Oxford, Deanna Childress of Hamilton, Christine Grimm of Athens, and Kathleen (Ben) Humphries of Anderson, SC; numerous great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.

She was born on June 13, 1948, in Columbus to the late William and Frances L. (Shrum) Lahrmer.  Betsi graduated from Dublin High School in 1966, where she was a majorette. Before retiring she worked as a school bus driver with the Delaware City School System.

Betsi treasured time spent at the beach, with family, and working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She also enjoyed boating, camping, and going out with friends. She also looked forward to every opportunity to celebrate the lives of those she loved, especially the birthdays of her children and grandchildren.

Possessing kind, loving, and caring qualities, she will be remembered for her independence, strong will, and sweet ways.

Those left to cherish her memory are her twin daughters; Lisa Lynn (Kyle) Virgin of Galena and Lori Lee Egner (Alan Speelman) of Columbus; nine grandchildren Angela, Andrew (Madison Stoner), Adam, Avelynn and Alivia Werner, Kayla and Kollin Rigel and Preston and Aiden Virgin; two great granddaughters Khloe and Sienna McCann, and her canine buddy of almost 20 years, Benji.

Obituary Preview: Lela Perry Weston, age 86, of Delaware, Ohio passed peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday May 1, 2024. She was born in Wilmington, Delaware on August 13, 1937, to the late George W. Perry and Beryl Irene Perry.

Lela met her beloved husband Norm while singing in the Dupont Chorus in 1957, and they were married January 31, 1959, and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Lela and Norm loved to travel and particularly enjoyed symphony concerts; they were inseparable. They built their life together, raising their daughter and son in Wilmington, Delaware. Lela was active in their church, was in a bowling league, and entertained friends and family, while working at Micron Inc. with Norm.

They retired to the beach in Lewes, Delaware in 1995 and quickly made friends, and had a church community at Bethel United Methodist Church, where she continued her love of singing in the choir. She began developing her talents in stained glass and taught stained glass art at the University of Delaware’s Academy of Lifelong Learning.

Lela was extremely talented in oil painting, woodworking, stained glass artwork, sewing, quilting, cross stitching, knitting and even basket weaving. There was nothing she couldn’t do.

Lela spent the last 15 years living with Norm at Willow Brook at Delaware Run, in Delaware Ohio, moving to Ohio in 2009. They chose to move to Ohio to become an integral part of their grandsons’ lives. Lela’s greatest joy was her children and grandchildren, celebrating their many accomplishments. She spent countless hours in hockey rinks, and in the stands cheering on her grandsons. She was proud to celebrate both their high school and college graduations, making them t-shirt quilts of their childhood memories.

Lela was always positive and upbeat even during difficult times. She emanated love, humility, and caring, and cheered on her family like no other. She was well-liked at Willow Brook due to her kind and unassuming way. She dreamed up and orchestrated an annual Christmas Cookie Walk, raising money for a local nonprofit, People in Need. In her later years, she became immersed in perfecting her quilting skills, organizing quilting groups, making quilts for charity, playing Mahjongg with her friends, and spending time serving others in her own unique way.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Norman E. Weston; daughter Susan Weston Horvath and son Norman Gray Weston (Renee); grandsons Clayton L. Horvath (Madelyn) and Gabriel W. Horvath (Megan) and her brother Marvin W. Perry (Miriam) and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Wallace L. Perry, Lewis I. Perry, and sister Georgina Timberman.

A Celebration of Life Open House will be held on May 24, 2024, at Willow Brook at Delaware Run in Delaware, Ohio from 2-4 PM.

Francis Daniel "Dan" Holmes, III - October 27, 1941 - May 01, 2024

Obituary Preview: Francis Daniel “Dan” Holmes III, 82, of Grove City passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Capri Gardens in Lewis Center.

He was born October 27, 1941 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Francis Daniel Holmes II and Betty (Kelly) Holmes. He proudly served his country as a member of the Unted States Army in the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. He successfully completed 53 jumps.

Dan was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was owner and operator of the family business Aaron Allen moving company and a member of the Overbrook Presbyterian Church in Columbus. He loved animals, racing horses and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved his sweets: Spice Cake, Donuts and especially Necco Wafers. His favorite TV channels were Fox News and The Cowboy channel.

He will be missed by many, but is now reunited with his wife, Joann (Crites) Holmes, as they spent nearly 60 years of their lives together. He always called her JoJo and she passed away on January 14, 2022.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Tracy (Mike) Junk, Kelly Carnes and Barb (Keith) Holmes; 6 grandchildren, Kasey Jo Baldwin, Amanda Carnes, Stephanie Carnes, Francis Daniel Holmes V whom he raised as a son, Ashley (Scott) Holmes, Robert (Danielle) Byers; 9 great-grandchildren; best friend and loving companion, Merry Buckles; brothers and sisters, Ginni Douridas, Tom Holmes, Becky (Dennis) Fritz, and Glenn (Maureen) Holmes; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and loving wife Joann, he was also preceded in death by his son Francis Daniel Holmes IV and his granddaughter Devon Lynn Baldwin.

Obituary Preview: Harold Edwin Holt, age 86 of Marion died Monday evening, April 29, 2024, at Marion General Hospital surrounded by his family.

Born in Marion on December 10, 1937, to the late Joseph M. and Martha A. (Netter) Holt.  Harold graduated from Harding High School in 1956 and proudly served in the US Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

One never with idle hands, he was a gifted carpenter. Actively working until the age of 85, he often expressed that he didn’t work a day in his life because he loved what he did, so it was never a job. Throughout his working career, he had been employed with Goodrich, Marion Power Shovel, and was the owner/operator of Marion Seamless Siding.

Living a God centered life, he enjoyed a passion for music, both of which led him to meet the love of his life while singing in the church choir of First Memorial Baptist Church in Marion, Janice Eileen Chard. They were married on July 16, 1960 and together side by side and hand in hand they shared almost 64 wonder years, through thick and thin, raising their family and sharing in God’s grace.

He was a longtime member of Grand Prairie Baptist Church, where he served the Lord as Deacon and Sunday school superintendent. He also sang in the church choir, his favorite place. Harold also was an active member of the American Baptist Association Mission Board and was a trustee of the Marion Association of Churches.

Always a faithful servant, he used his many talents serving communities in Haiti, Oklahoma, Kentucky and Missouri on mission trips over the past 30 years. He also provided hurricane relief after hurricane Katrina.

He found joy in every endeavor, whether it was reading, tinkering on his Model A or working in the yard, but especially when spending time with his family.

Harold considered his proudest achievements being the son of the Master carpenter, Jesus Christ, along with the day that Jan asked him for a ladies’ choice skate, as well as his treasured children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Forever loyal, he was a true Christ follower, he will be remembered for his hard-working hands, fun loving ways, and passionate personality.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife Janice, children: Tery (Steve) Gilmore, Brenda Tillett, Ed (Julie) Holt, grandchildren: Morgan (Tyler) Winger, Eric (Jessica) Gilmore, Weston (Tori) Tillett, Pierce Holt, Grace Tillett, and Levi (Meg) Holt, Lauren, and Gabriel Koleszar, great-grandchildren: Blake, Brooks, Callen, Cole, siblings: Nancy (Sterling) Elder, Don Ray Holt, Linda Sisson, numerous nieces, nephews, and extended families.

Bobby was a graduate of Buckeye Valley High School and the Reynoldsburg Police Academy. A dedicated, lifelong emergency services servant, he served in Delaware county in numerous capacities. As a junior in high school, he joined the Elm Valley Joint Fire Department, where he dedicated over 45 years of service as a Captain, Fire Inspector and HazMat officer. Bobby also served many years as the Commander of the Delaware County Fire/EMS Honor Guard. He was a member of the Ashley Village Police Department from 1981-1994 and was in the role of Police Chief for 3 of those years. He spent several years as a 9-1-1 dispatcher and was an instructor for the DACC Adult Fire Education program. In 2000, Bobby became the Emergency Operations Manager for the Delaware County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management where he retired in 2019.

Although he lived a life dedicated to public service, he also enjoyed bowling, playing games such as UNO, spending time with family and playing video games. He was especially devoted to his daughters and grandchildren, whom he adored. Simply put, Bobby was a great man and a hero to his family and community. He will be remembered for his big heart and dedication to all his endeavors.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter Jessica Lavender, granddaughter Britney (Sweet-P) Lavender, daughter Mandy Knight, grandchildren Tyler and Abbey Knight, his best friend, JeanAnne Hess, and his #2 mom, Gloria Jean Piatt. Also surviving are his four brothers and one sister; Bruce, Bill, Brent, Connie, and Bryon.

Funeral services and calling hours will be held at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Dr. at W. William St. Delaware, OH. Calling hours will be Monday May 6th, from 5pm-8pm. Funeral services will follow on Tuesday May 7th, doors opening at Noon, services starting at 1:00pm. Celebrant Thomas Dea’Therage will be officiating in conjunction with honors provided by the Delaware County Fire/EMS Honor Guard. Following services, burial will take place at Radnor Cemetery, near his parents. She was born on May 4, 1937 in Huntington, New York to the late Walter F. and LaRue (Beattie) Fleming.  Susan retired as the office manager for the renown Joint Implant Surgeons of Columbus.

A consummate caregiver, she had a passion for all animals, especially horses and her canine companions. She was a dedicated member of Liberty Presbyterian Church where she had served as a Deacon and office manager. Susan enjoyed music, singing, and playing the guitar. She was a member of the group Second Strings, who provided their musical talents to area churches and nursing homes. She will be remembered for her love of family and especially her treasured grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Michael (Lori) Rardon of Delaware, Michelle (Aurthur) Buentello of Marysville, Daniel (Julie) Rardon of Greencastle, PA, grandchildren: Bryan, Scott, Matthew, Jacob, Nichole, brother Pat Fleming, and extended family.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Tom Tucker in 2003, 4 brothers and sisters, as well as Jerry Rardon the father of her children.

She attended and graduated from St. Mary School and Delaware Hayes High School; and received her bachelor’s degree in Economics from Hanover College in Indiana. Jenny followed in the footsteps of her father and grandfather in her 37-year career in the insurance industry, most recently as a commercial lines account manager with Willis Towers Watson. Jenny was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Delaware.

Jenny is survived by her siblings Matthew Held and Kathryn Held (Aaron Mezger); life-long friend Jennifer “Jeni” Pratt; and her feline friends Johnny Cash and Otis; along with numerous other friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Jenny was an entertainer and hostess; she enjoyed welcoming people to her home. She particularly liked the holidays, decorating extensively, and showcasing her culinary talents. Jenny loved traveling to every corner of Texas, appreciating the best food, great weather, and the nicest people. She enjoyed attending concerts and listening to music, with her interests ranging from classical to AC/DC, and everything in between. Jenny was fascinated by weather and was a certified storm spotter. She could watch the Weather Channel and live storm chasing apps for hours. She was a noted animal lover, and devoted “cat mom.” Jenny was hilarious, feisty, sassy, and opinionated, as well as a welcoming, loyal, loving, supportive, and generous sister and friend.

In 2014 Maria and her family made the move to the United States to Delaware, Ohio where she resided until her passing. Described as brave and sassy woman, Maria enjoyed going on adventures, especially to the beach. Maria also enjoyed other hobbies such as knitting and was incredibly proud of her family, she will be remembered as an excellent cook who made the best pasta.

Brad is survived by his children Jennifer (Ben) Moore, Michelle Doyle (Brandon Hibbs) and Keith Fraley; grandchildren, Kyndal Bowen, Stanley Moore, Kennedy Hibbs, Kyler Doyle, Mikayla Covrett; Sister Teresa Smith; Brothers Mike, Mark and Matt (Kristi) Doyle; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law Dick Smith.

Brad was an outdoorsman in every aspect, whether he was hunting deer, camping, attending NASCAR events, or rooting for The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns. He was proud of the children he raised and his grandchildren were his world. He will be remembered as the wonderful father, grandfather, and brother that he was.

Born November 6, 1942 in Toledo, Ohio, Richard was son to the late Edward Parker & Myla (Cobb) Johnson. Richard attended Scott High School, he would go on to receive his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from the University of Toledo, all leading to his proud career as a Special Agent with the Internal Revenue Service (Department of Treasury).

Richard honorably served in the U.S. Navy as a Disbursing Clerk (DK2) on the USS Intrepid (CV-11) during the Vietnam War, and met his wife Judy Hartenfeld in 1972. They were legacy members of the First Congregational Church in Toledo, OH.

Richard enjoyed golfing, playing cards, traveling, collecting Labino glass, and spending time with his family. He & Judy spent most of their retirement years in Hilton Head, SC before returning to Columbus, OH for his last few years.

Left to cherish Richard's memory are his loving wife of 50 years Judy; children Michael (Stacey), Ryan (Meghan) and Heather Johnson; grandchildren Amanda, Olivia, Mila and Liam Richard; sister Janice (William) Mazur, along with numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

He was a member and past trustee of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #376, a member of the Sons of AMVETS Post 102, a former member of The Grange and a huge OSU Buckeyes Fan. John was a wonderful person and will be forever loved and missed.

John is survived by his longtime partner, Chriss Cawley; mother of his children, Charlotte Kidwell; sons, Stacy (Terri) Kidwell, Jeremiah Kidwell, Timothy Kidwell and Benjiman Kidwell; step-daughters, Kathryn (Bryan) Ely and Cheryl (Brett) Rosen; grandchildren, Chip (Missy), Scott (Audrey), Ben, Nick (Tori), Matt, Jacob, and Racheal. Obituary Preview: James W. Mooney, Jr. (Jim), age 84, of Delaware, Ohio died Thursday, April 18, 2024, of complications from vascular dementia. He was born on August 11, 1939, in Louisville, Kentucky to the late James W. Mooney, Sr. and Helen (Hester) Mooney.

On October 21, 1956, he married Lona Messer in New Albany, Indiana. Together they shared 67 years of marriage. Education was important to Jim, receiving both a Master’s Degree in Business and Psychology.

Jim retired from the U.S. Army as a Command Sgt. Major after 28 years of service. He served in multiple states and in Europe. Jim served in the Vietnam War and throughout his military career was awarded many honors. After he retired from the U.S. Army, he was the Owner and Operator of Suntex Chemicals in Naples, Florida. Jim was such a “fun dad” with a wonderful sense of humor. He would chase his grandchildren with his dentures, biting and clacking at them. Jim could sell ice cubes to an Eskimo with his vibrant, magnetic personality. He was always the prankster, constantly getting enjoyment out of pranking Lona!

Jim was an OSU Fan – Big Time! He also enjoyed gardening, playing with his grandchildren and his beloved dog, Missy. Jim was a hardworking man, but he never let his work or anything else get in the way of attending events with his family or spending time with them. Jim was one-of-a-kind and is deeply loved and will be forever missed.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lona Jean Mooney; children, Jim (Laurie) Mooney III, Tonya Freeman, Debbie (Bruce) Minard, and Kevin Mooney; special grandson, Humphrey; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; siblings, Jan Gable, Hal (Linda) Mooney, Kenny Mooney, Doris Jones, Darlene Brown and Betty Bosch.

She married LeRoy Elmer Ickes in 1946 and became a pastor’s wife for 63 years. She opened her heart and her home to the many people in churches where they served. Her gift was hospitality which she shared in church functions, funeral dinners, bible studies, and chats with friends. She enjoyed antiques and always adored a card or gift. Faye cherished her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and her legacy of faith and servanthood will be carried on to future generations. In the bible, Job states: “The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.” We will continue to praise the Lord for blessing us with Faye.
