Sandra Ann Hawks - April 01, 1939 - March 06, 2024

Departed: 03/06/2024 (Loudonville)
Obituary Preview: Our mom, grandma, and great-grandma entered that door to Heaven on March 6, 2024, peacefully, surrounded by her loving family of many at Brethren Care.
Sandra Ann (Berger) Hawks, 84, was born on April 1, 1939, in Wooster, Ohio, to parents, Lawrence and Grace (Bates) Berger. She was predeceased by two husbands, James Garrison and James Hawks. She graduated from Wooster High in 1957 and married two years later, to James “Jimmy” Garrison. Together, they had five children. Mom was widowed at the early age of 28 due to a motorcycle accident. She never let that stop her because she had a family to raise and that she did, with the help of our late grandparents, Jim and Marie Garrison. Her second husband and love of her life, the late James E. Hawks, dated Mom for several years before tying the knot on September 10, 1983. What a life of adventures that continued with Jim, where arrowheads and mushroom hunting, auctions, various trips, and lots of favorite restaurants became their norm. Jim had four sisters who had big families, so there never was a dull moment! They resided first near Mifflin, then moved closer to family, in a small country cottage, near Loudonville. Mom worked various jobs, one as a keypunch operator at Philway, and in the Home Hardware office, however, she gave her life for others, in the way that she cared so deeply for them. Once the grandkids started coming, that caring heart grew in size. She ruled with an iron fist, due to her tough nature and loved fiercely, however her sweet spirit always shined through! Family was her everything!! Mom also was an avid sports fan, not only supporting her grandkids and later her grandkids, but also the Cleveland Browns, and “Indians”, sporting a Jim Thome jersey in her earlier days, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. She loved OSU apparel the most, and would occasionally be seen tailgating with family, Go Bucks!
As her journey continued, Mom’s faith in the Lord grew with her life being based on John 3:16 and Philippians 4:13. She did all things through Christ who strengthened her.. a member of Mohicanville Community Church, where she was in various Bible studies, Ladies Guild, and loved supporting missions of the church. Mom enjoyed the radio, old game shows, reading, doing puzzles, family game nights, playing cards, going to movies, bowling, going to her favorite store, Kohls, and talking to family and best friends on the phone ( the late Evelyn Atterholt and late Lillian Raubenolt), if she wasn’t going to the many school and extracurricular activities of her BIG family. She also took the trip of a lifetime with her oldest son, Keith, and his family to Alaska. Another highlight was her Surprise 80th birthday gathering at the Peking Restaurant in Ashland. You could never put one over on Mom and we did!!
That family is made up of two daughters, Kimberly (Gene)Goins of Columbus, Krystal (Andy) Raubenolt, of Loudonville, and three sons, Keith(Stacy) Garrison of Clarkston, Michigan, Kurt (Donna) Garrison of Wooster, And Kyle(Diane) Garrison of Butler; 11 grandchildren, Clint(Jessica) and Caleb(Lauren) Raubenolt, Carley (Michael) Coblentz and Celsey (Ryan) Kane, Joshua (Cora), Jeremy (Michelle), Jared (Cheyenne), Kip(Brittany), and Keith Garrison and Alex and Drew Kempen; AND 20 GREAT grandchildren, Gracey, Landen, Marcus, Liam, Garrett, Casen, Logan, Gabriella, Roman, Leo, Annabelle, Rachel, Adalynn, Ellie, Emilia, Amora, Alaina, Claire, Ilyana, and Gemma…….. as well as many nieces and nephews, and sisters-in-law Carol Berger, Barbara O’Donnell, and Faye Griebling.
She was preceded in death by her first two husbands’, James Garrison and James Hawks, married a combination of almost 40 years, her parents, her brothers, Richard and Gene” Butch” Berger, and sister-in-law Violet Berger and many special in-laws from Jim Hawks family.
Calling hours at Snyder Funeral Home-Lindsey Chapel, Loudonville will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, from 5-7 pm. Celebration of Life will be at Mohicanville Community Church at 11 am on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, with burial to follow at Pioneer Cemetery.
Any donations may go to the HOSPICE OF NORTH CENTRAL OHIO or MOHICANVILLE COMMUNITY CHURCH (MISSIONS), in lieu of flowers.
Special thanks to all the WONDERFUL caregivers at McMullen Assisted Care, Wasen Rehab/and Brethren Care, where she spent her final year.
