Yvonne M. Harrington - June 01, 1950 - May 16, 2024

Departed: 05/16/2024 (Saginaw)
Obituary Preview: Yvonne M. Harrington Zilwaukee, Michigan
Yvonne Marie Harrington, 73, of Zilwaukee, MI, peacefully departed this world on Thursday morning, May 16th, 2024, at the Toni & Trish Hospice House in Auburn, MI. She now rests alongside her father, mother, and sister, Laura.
Born on June 1st, 1950, in Saginaw, MI, Yvonne was the eldest of four siblings to Wayne and Rita (Ezop) Harrington. She attended St. Rita's grade school, Zilwaukee Junior High, and graduated from St. Mary's Cathedral High School in 1968.
Yvonne's vibrant personality and love for family defined her life from an early age, and she was affectionately dubbed "Wawa" by her younger brother Joe.
While finishing her senior year of high school, Yvonne was already taking steps into the workforce at Aubry's Cleaners. After that, she excelled in clerical work under Walter P. Davis, whom she would still say was one of her favorite bosses. These experiences led her to a career at Jacobson's Department Stores. Yvonne cherished her career there, thriving in an environment that valued her professional skills, her love of style and travel for over 28 years. She returned to Saginaw in 2004, and moved on to real estate, where she built meaningful and impactful relationships with her team at Keller Williams Realty.
In 2008, Yvonne's life changed when doctors discovered multiple brain aneurysms after her sister Laura’s sudden passing. Surgery led to stroke-like complications, leaving half her body disabled. With immense support from Covenant HealthCare, her Keller Williams family, and loved ones, Yvonne embarked on a journey of resilience. Determined to thrive, she relearned daily tasks and discovered a newfound passion for watercolor painting. Despite physical challenges, she pursued formal education in the craft, creating works that reflected her strength and creativity. Yvonne lives on through all those touched by her artwork and remarkable journey.
Yvonne's life was a testament to love, laughter, and connection. Though she remained single, she enriched the lives of all who knew her and became an integral part of their stories. As the beloved "cool Aunt" with her iconic red mustang convertible, she was a beacon of support and joy for her family, always there with a contagious laugh and a quick-witted joke. To her friends, she became family, and was eventually dubbed “Aunt Wawa” by almost all of those who knew her well. She found delight in simple pleasures, from line dancing to canning and nurturing her flower garden. Her social life was robust, fueled by an unmatched connection with her sister Sue, and her card-playing companions, who enjoyed Wawa’s playful, competitive nature. Her love for music, travel, and culture was matched only by her devotion to her pets—Jake, Morgan, Abby, Olive, and Hubby—who were more than just animals but cherished companions. Yvonne's legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and unwavering love, leaving an irreplaceable void in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Yvonne is survived by her brother, Joseph (Margaret) Harrington, and her sister and closest confidante, Susan (Paul) Pegley. She also leaves behind her beloved nieces and nephews: Tony (Sara) Pegley, Kevin (Erica) Pegley, Hannah (Myles) Harrington, John (Lottie) Harrington, Max (Britton) Harrington, Heath (Svea) Harrington, Karen (Steve) Buelow, Katie (David) Leal, Christopher Stein, and Colin (Cory) Stein. Yvonne was a cherished great-aunt to Paige, Allie, Gideon, Atlas, Jillian, RJ, Meadow, Rexton, Wyatt, and Harbor. In addition, she leaves behind numerous cousins, relatives, and dear friends.
Please join us on her birthday, Saturday, June 1st at Haithco Park (2121 Schust Rd, Saginaw, MI 48603) from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, for a celebration of her colorful, resilient, and buoyant life. She will be incredibly missed by all that knew her as both Yvonne and Aunt Wawa.
