Born, September 18, 1993, he was the son of Bobby and Tina Greene. Bobby was a 2012 graduate of McDowell High School. He loved fast cars, especially Corvettes and his Scat Pack Charger. Traveling and working on cars was a passion and something he enjoyed. Number one in his life was his precious son, Adam, who he was the best dad in the world to. Bobby was a beloved husband and friend that will be dearly missed. He was preceded in death by several loved grandparents.
Left to cherish Bobby’s memory are his loving wife of 9 years, Jessica Christopher Greene; son, Adam Greene; brother, Anthony Greene (Rebecca); nephew, Zach Greene; nieces, Irellend Nathans and Sawyer Nathans; parents, Bobby Greene, Sr. and Tina Childers Greene; along with numerous extended family and friends who dearly loved him.

Obituary Preview: Kenneth Wayne Best, 60, of the Crabtree Community, passed away at Haywood Regional Medical Center on May 14, 2024, surrounded by family.
A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Kenneth Dean Best and Lucy Rich Best. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Ann Best. Kenneth was a lifelong farmer. When he wasn’t seen working in the fields, on his equipment, or with the cattle he could be found waving from his chair in the front yard. During the summer he traded the tractor for the pontoon and enjoyed spending time with his family at the lake. When the work was done, some of the most precious moments were spent with his granddaughter, Annaleigh. Kenneth was loved by his family and friends and will be dearly missed.
Left to cherish Kenneth’s memory are his loving wife, Brenda Jones Best; children, Courtney Landt (Jeremy) and Chris Best; granddaughter, Annaleigh Landt; brother, Walter Best (Kim); sister, Tammy Dover (Billy); along with numerous extended family and friends.

Obituary Preview: Dorothy “Dot” Pruitt Lanning, 82, of Marion, passed away on May 11, 2024 at the Solace Center in Asheville.
A native of Henderson County, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Betsy Pruitt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Boyd and Joe Thomas; one daughter, Cathy Thomas; two sisters, Mary Lou Edwards and Betty McMahan; a granddaughter, Hannah; and a great-granddaughter, Emalee. Dot had a huge heart and always welcomed others into her home. Her compassion was also extended to the patients she served through her work as a C.N.A. She and her husband, Joseph were members of Balsam Ridge Baptist Church until they moved to McDowell County and could no longer attend.
Dot is survived by her husband of fifty years, Joseph; one son, Clifton Thomas, and his significant other, Cheryl of Marion; two daughters, Cindy Edwards, and her husband, Gus, of Marion, and Amanda Robertson; one sister, Ruth Honeycutt, of Hendersonville; two daughters-in-law, Debi Thomas and Martha Thomas; seventeen grandchildren, Josh, Richard, April, Thelma, Becky E., Peggy, Kevin, Sandra, Caine, Becky T., Jessica, Cody, Hannah, Kara, Arabella, Cheyenne, and Fallon; twenty-nine great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jade, Cooper, Colton, Pollyanna, Jeremiah, Bo, Angela, William, Issac, Amber, Alexia, Ami, Albert, Landon, Derek, Abigail, Ryan, Diamond, Simon, Avery, Brayleigh, Ali, Nathaniel, and Fynnley, Brianna, Melvin, Sophia, and Journey; and a host of children who called her “Mamaw”.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at the chapel of Smoky Mountain Cremations and Funeral Services with the Chaplain Kellyann Bowman officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Rocky Branch Cemetery.

Julia Mae Bumgarner 76, of Waynesville went to her eternal home on May 8th, 2024. Julia was born September 13, 1947, to the late Willard and Irene Plemmons.
Mae loved her family and especially her church family. She enjoyed crocheting and she would crochet dollies for her family. Mae loved going to the beach with her sister and collecting seashells to bring home. Mae was a simple lady who loved being with her husband, spending time with him and taking rides and going sightseeing. She was a amazing lady that will be greatly missed by many.
Left to cherish Julia’s memory is her husband of 53 years Aurett Lee Bumgarner. One sister Linda Faye Brackett and her husband James. One brother Cecil Lee Plemmons and numerous family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday May 14th, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Camp Branch Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Beauford Rice will officiate. Welcome to all, we thank you for coming to remember our dear brother Louis Melvin Curren who was born in the town of Omaha, Nebraska, on April 8,1927 to Melvin Curren, his father, of Little Rock Arkansas and Mary Key his mother of Brewton, Alabama.
He is survived by his loving wife Jean Marie Curren, whom he married on December 14, 1991, along with a host of step children. Became stepfather to several children, grand children and great grandchildren. He had a good sense of humor and was known for his unwavering love for, as he would always say “My God Jehovah”. He was also kind and very generous to others. Served as a Ministerial Servant in the Congregation for some time. Both he and his wife Jean, zealously were also able to serve as regular Pioneers preaching and teaching Bible truths until now. Until God’s provision of the resurrection, he will be missed.

Obituary Preview: Dennis Troy Forsythe, 71, of Maggie Valley went to his eternal home on May 5th, 2024. Dennis was born on July 28th, 1952, to the late Carl and Dorothy Forsythe in addition to his loving wife Donna Forsythe of 52 years. He is also preceded in death by his four siblings.
As a young boy Dennis met the love of his life Donna at the age of 12. Dennis grew up on the farm working and riding horses was just one of the things he loved. His favorite animal was his pet bear named Little Bear that he took care of for 27 years. He married Donna and their family grew. They were his everything. He liked the outdoors and enjoyed fishing. His passion was riding motorcycles and feeling the freedom of the road. His greatest blessing was to be with his wife riding the three-wheeler trike to Mel’s Diner in Pigeon Forge TN for his favorite banana split. He enjoyed working with aquaponics. One of his greatest pleasures was helping people. He was a man with a big heart and a bigger smile willing to do anything for anyone. We will remember him not only for his kindness and compassion, but also for his strength and commitment to his family and friends. He was the center and rock of his family, and there will forever be a void in their hearts that is shaped exactly like him.
Left to cherish Dennis memory are his children Dwayne Forsythe (Angie), Jesse Forsythe (Thera) and Jennifer Prouty (Eric). One brother Dwight Forsythe, one sister Denise Davis, one half-brother James Forsythe, and a half-sister Laura Lovlie and a sister-in-law Diane Wilson. Six grandchildren and two great grandchildren and soon to be three.
Celebration of life will be held Friday May 10, 2024, at 2:00 at the Chapel of Smoky Mountain Cremations and Funeral Service. The Rev. Randy Lightcap will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Obituary Preview: Stella Louise Rich Payne, 78, of Waynesville, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville, NC.
A life-long resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late James and Bessie Inman Rich. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, James Douglas Mathis; and one grandson, Chaz Mathis. Stella was an excellent cook and loved hosting family meals. She also enjoyed canning and was well known for her green beans, fudge, biscuits, and chocolate gravy. She was also a remarkable saleswoman, frequently holding and scouting local yard sales. She enjoyed participating at auctions from Haywood county to Spartanburg and Tennessee, and made many fond memories doing so with her husband, Larry.
Stella is survived by her husband of 55 years, Larry Payne; one son, Randy Mathis and his wife, Janet of Leicester; a daughter, Tracy King and her husband, Chris, of Tillman, SC; a sister, Shirley Stiles; two grandchildren, Lewis King and Rebecca Rizer; one great grandson; and numerous friends whom were dear to her heart.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at Smoky Mountain Cremations and Funeral Services chapel, with Pastor Johnny Passmore officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Obituary Preview: Harold Lee Collins, 82, of Clyde, passed away on April 16, 2024 at his home.
A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Arthur and Etta Vick Collins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Jeanette Jackson and Louise Fagan. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and deer-hunting, and created many special cherished memories with his son and grandson this way. Riding all over the Great Smokey Mountains on his Harley Davidson and Kawasaki was also a family affair. He enjoyed clogging, and spent many fun-filled nights doing so with his wife, Shirley at The Barn in Mills River. He loved spending quality time with his family, and had a special bond with his little dog, Jack as well.
Harold is survived by his wife, Shirley; two sons, Leneir Collins, and his wife, Tamara and Heath Collins; a brother-in-law, Ernest Jackson; a grandson, Logan Collins; a granddaughter, Hannah Miessner, and her husband, Dustin; two great-grandsons, Tristan and Kaiden Miessner; two cousins, Charles and Judy Jackson; two stepsons, Charles H. Ray, Jr. and David Ray; two stepdaughters, Donna Baleklojian and Cynthia McCracken; and too many step-grandchildren to name.
A Memorial Service with military honors will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, April 29, 2024 at the chapel of Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with Chaplain David Winkle officiating. An inurnment will follow at the North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

In addition to his parents, he is preceeded in death by his brothers Lloyd, Larry, and Burl Rose. He is also preceded by his granddaughter, Rachel.
Darris fought in Vietnam while serving in the Army from 1969 to 1971.
A talented musician, he loved bluegrass and played music with his three brothers Lloyd, Larry, Burl, and Tony Shelton.
Additionally, he worked for the First Methodist Church of Waynesville for 25 years, serving the Lord and his community.
His memory will be cherished by wife Hazel Ann Bradley Rose of 53 years, daughter Teresa Brown (Clifford) of Waynesville, and his grandchildren, Steven, Michael, and Heather Brown.
A celebration of life will be held at Smoky Mountain Chapel on April 22nd, 2024, at 1:00pm, with Pastor Philip Wyatt and Pastor Matthew Pressley officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

James is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Joann Pressley Henson, his sister Gail Moore, and his first wife, Pauline Fuller Henson.
James had a deep love for his family and cherished spending time with them. His passions included hunting, outdoor activities, camping, and horseback riding. He was a respected figure in the community and a strong foundation for his family. The loss of James leaves a void that cannot be filled.
He is survived by his children, Brian Noland and his wife Stephanie of Waynesville, Randy Noland and his wife Bobbie of Arizona, five grandchildren, his brother Richard Henson and his wife Jimmie Ellen of Waynesville, and his sister Janie Sorrells and her husband Vaughn of Canton. Robert cherished numerous forms of self-expression, but his true passion was drawing. Comic book illustrations were his area of prowess. He frequently watched movies, played PlayStation, and enjoyed many other types of digital media. He was a graduate of Central High School.
His memory will be cherished by his mother, Joyce Barker, and his daughter, Riah Logan Wemple.
A celebration of life will be held at Smoky Mountain Chapel on April 27th, 2024, at 2:00pm, with Pastor Jennings Sizemore officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Ella is survived by her son, Hugh Grasty; her sister, Linda Campbell (Bobby); her grandchildren: Rachel Grasty-Sheehan, Jason Grasty (Sue), David Grasty (Amber), Joshua Grasty (Sandra), Crystal Nash, April Mandeville (John), Ashley Rice (Cody), and Dallas Fraga; as well as many great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Grasty; her son, Ervin Grasty (Lisa), their father Hilliard Grasty, and six siblings: Hazel, John, Betty, Barbara, Don, and Clifton.
A memorial service for Ella will be held on on Wednesday April 10th, 2024 at Smoky Mountain Cremations and Funeral Service located at 3264 Broad St., Clyde, NC. Ronald "RL" Burrell Sr, age 80, went to his eternal home with Jesus on April 4, 2024. RL was born on October 30, 1943, to the late Raymond Luther Burrell and Madge Gosnell Burrell. He was also preceded in death by his baby daughters, Wanda Burrell, and Revonda Burrell.
RL's passion was woodworking. He carved many unique walking sticks that will forever be treasured. RL also had a love for bluegrass music, hunting and fishing. He and his loving wife also enjoyed their second home in Georgia, where they spent a lot of time with family and friends. He was well known as Mr. Fix Anything. RL was a member of Rocky Face Baptist Church. He was a pillar in the community and the family's rock. There is truly no way to express how much he will be missed.

He was born July 3, 1939, in Clay County, North Carolina, and was the son of the late Adam and Ethel (Coker) Ledford; he was predeceased by his grandparents, James “Jim” and Zoah Ledford; and Virgil “Virge” and Cora Coker as well as his
brother, Billy Ledford, his sister, Martha Berrong, and his nephew, Michael Barnes. Carroll worked hard as a dairy farmer for 65 years and was able to retire in his later years to enjoy fishing and growing fantastic tomatoes. Among his friends and family, he was well known for his coleslaw and
hush puppies. Carroll was a member of Shelton Laurel Salvation Army Church where he was Corp. Sergeant Major, taught the adult Sunday School Class, and served as the Church Treasurer. He was presented with the “Man of the Year” award in The North & South Carolina Division in 1987 in the Salvation Army Men's Club, and the “Man of the Year” award in the southern district which is composed of 13 states in 1988. He served as a deacon at Truett Memorial Baptist Church in Hayesville, at Long Shoals Baptist Church in Arden, and at Fines Creek Baptist Church in Clyde. He also served in various
other positions in those churches. Carroll truly cared about his friends and neighbors and was the center and rock of his family. There is
truly no way to express how much he will be missed. Those left to cherish Carroll’s memory include his wife of 35 years, Carol Ann Ledford; children: Christopher (Tanya) Ledford of Mills River, Marsha (Paul) Monroe of Candler, Elisabeth (Doug) Rich of Waynesville, Linda Brooks of Cullowhee, Tracy Patterson of Hayesville, Tammy (Bryan) Wells of Canton, and Thomas (Tony) Rathbone of Clyde. Grandchildren: Adam Monroe, Nick Rich, Jordan Williamson, Megan Rich, Lilly and Katherine Ledford, and Jessie Wells. Great-grandchildren: Rosie Williamson, Adelaide Monroe, Khloe D'Avanzo, and Thomas Wells, Sisters: Mary Cook of Hayesville, Margaret Ledford of Hayesville, Patricia (Steve) Nowland of Hiawassee, GA, Ginger Henderson of Blairsville, GA, and Sister-in-Law, Kathy Ledford of Alabama. is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Carroll’s life will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Shelton Laurel

Evelyn was a wonderful mother and devoted all her time to the wellbeing of her family. She enjoyed gambling and always had her lottery tickets in hand. Evelyn was an excellent cook, and was known for her chicken and dumplings, especially.
Evelyn is survived by her loving husband of forty-eight years, Seferino Garcia; two daughters, Debbie Fitzgibbon and Sarah Macias; two sons, Eddie Smith and Howard Tumlin; one sister, Mary Smith; seven grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
