He carried the perseverance of a cross country runner, the discipline of a trumpet player, albeit briefly, and unconditional love for his family, friends, and cherished dog, Milo. Whether expressing his love to his grandmother Judy or humorously inquiring about the evening's dinner, Caden’s warmth and affection were ever-present.Caden’s legacy is not merely in the years, but in the lives he touched with his kindness. Linda 'Nana' (Chapman) Valentine - October 29, 1948 - April 22, 2024

Departed: 04/22/2024 (Sapulpa)
Obituary Preview: On Monday morning, April 22nd, 2024, Heaven was suddenly blessed by receiving the beautiful, beloved, dedicated, and adored saint, Linda Chapman Valentine. She went straight in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and is now rejoicing in Heaven with Him. Linda was a giver and lover of life. She brought joy, wisdom and fun into every situation. She was a supremely selfless giver of her time, talents, and treasures. Linda was a most thoughtful and precious true friend. She was selfless to a fault. Her creativity is way beyond compare. She was devoted to her family, she was creative, most humble, faithful, devoted, most artistic, generous, and giving to her family and friends beyond measure. Linda did it all with joy, maintaining a true servant’s heart. Linda was born on October 29th 1948, in Austin, Texas, the daughter of Earl Andrew Chapman and Minnie Lee ‘Stockton’ Chapman, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by Earlene Gaither, Carol Williams, Betty Pittser, Bobby Clark, all sisters; Bud Chapman, brother; Cherie Keller, daughter and Shelly Cullum, her niece. Linda is survived by her beloved son, Joe Valentine and wife, Brandy; her beloved daughter Christa Sanders and husband, Brandon and beloved daughter Tara Valentine. Linda was affectionately known as ‘Nana’ by her precious grandchildren, oldest to youngest; Nicole, Sarah, Michael, Jacob, Ali, Layden, JD, Kayda, Danielle, Emorie, Dylan, and Maverick. Linda was a beautiful singer. She loved solving puzzles. She was an excellent seamstress, talented artist and the very best cook ever! Linda was the most selfless person you could ever meet. She loved helping anyone and everyone she could. She was most thorough and efficient, organized at everything she did. She was an ‘Angel’ to many, always just in time...she loved to color coordinate her outfits from head to toe. If you knew Linda, you know she would encourage you to do two last things for her: give your life to Jesus Christ, and vote for Donald Trump for President. Linda’s legacy of shining for Jesus with many outstanding characteristics will shine on forever through her loving family and friends. We learned how to shine for Jesus through Linda. If there is a post-graduate degree for shining for Jesus, Linda earned it long ago! Lord, thank you for loving us so much that you would bless us by putting a true Valentine in our lives – the one and only Linda Valentine! Thank you, Jesus!
On Monday morning, April 22nd, 2024, Heaven was suddenly blessed by receiving the beautiful, beloved, dedicated, and adored saint, Linda Chapman Valentine.
Zelma Hindman - April 20, 1947 - March 31, 2024

Departed: 03/31/2024 (Sapulpa)
Obituary Preview: It is with warm memories and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Zelma Hindman, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose laughter and generosity adorned our lives. On March 31, 2024, Zelma left us while in the comforting surroundings of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, wrapping up a journey that began in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, on April 20, 1947. Zelma's youth spun the threads of her indomitable spirit as she flourished at Charles Page Highschool before diligently serving the community at Creek County Sheriff's Office. Her zest for life was not confined to her professional endeavors; it blossomed in the hobbies she so adored. Zelma was an artist with thread, finding joy in sewing and crocheting, she loved painting, and she often found peace with a pole in hand, fishing by the tranquil waters. While we mourn Zelma's departure, we take solace in knowing she is reunited with her beloved parents, Mike and Irene Ramsey, and her son, Richard Hindman, in eternity. Her spirit is carried forward through her devoted husband, Dickie Hindman, her loving daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jeremy Mulvaney, and her grandchildren, Brigitte and Jared, all of whom embody her kindness in Owasso, OK. Furthermore, her light shines on through her granddaughter Chelsea, her husband Andrew, and their children, Addison, Gunner, and Colt Glenn of Beggs, OK. Zelma's enduring legacy is celebrated by her brother Mike and his wife Sharron Ramsey of Sand Springs, OK, and her sister Janice and her husband John Watkins of Sallisaw, OK. Her laughter, love, and benevolence will forever be the cornerstone of the many memories cherished by her extensive family of nieces and nephews. Such was the life of Zelma: overflowing with humor, kindness, and generosity. Her bright presence may have dimmed in the physical world, but the imprint she left on our hearts is eternal.A memorial service will be held in Zelma's honor at Smith Funeral Home on April 5, 2024 at 2 PM.Services are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home at 1208 S. Obituary Preview: Charles Earl Smith, 78, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024 in his home, surrounded by family.Born on April 20, 1945 in Drumright, Ok. he grew up working on his family's farm. He often spoke about having to walk behind the mules while plowing the fields as a young boy or picking berries for his mom to cann. By the time he was in his mid-teens, he had taken a job working in the oilfield with his dad. As a young man, he worked at several jobs, although the two he spoke of the most was delivering pop for the Dr. Pepper company and driving a truck hauling new cars.On May 21, 1973 he married Sharon Gail Miller to whom he was married to for nearly 51 years at the time of his death. Soon after marriage, they started Smiths Backhoe Service and moved to Ponca City, Ok. They continued to operate the business for over 45 years before retiring. After retirement, Charles stayed busy. He often helped his son-in-law with the farming or worked out in his shop. He could often be found in the shop with his grandsons working on bicycles, their wagon or whatever other project they could think of. He was always ready to help out wherever it was needed.Together with Sharon, he raised 4 daughters, Twila Smith, Teresa Smith, Marcia Fixico and Lisa Turvey, and a son, Wesley Smith. Charles loved his family and nothing made him happier than spending time with them, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids.Charles also loved his extended family and friends. While he had few hobbies, he always enjoyed camping and driving around looking at the scenery. First, he bought a Honda Goldwing but at the time their were very few trailers built to pull behind a motorcycle. So, together, his friend, nephew and him designed and built their own fold out tent trailers. Those trailers always caught everyone's attention in the camp. A few years later, they started trail riding on horses down by Poteau, OK. and although it wasn't his favorite way to travel, he even bought him a mule to ride. Later on, he decided to buy a side by side and that immediately became his favorite way to drive the trails. While he absolutely loved Colorado, the last few years he started spending the winters in Ajo, AZ. instead. The last few weeks, he spoke of how much he enjoyed those trips and time spent with friends and family. He spoke about the places they went and sights they were able to see, all the while talking about where he wanted to go in the future. Those memories, along with the Lord, gave him a great deal of comfort in his last days.Charles was preceeded in death by his parents, Charles Wesley Smith and Ella's Mae (Houlden) Smith. 4 brothers, George Smith, Roy Smith and wife Grorgia (Pookie), Troy Smith and wife Francis, and Raymond Smith, 5 sisters, Ethel Smith, Margie Smith, Pauline Smith, Joyce Hulsey and husband R.B., and Ruby Travis and husband Glen B.He is survived by his wife, Sharon Smith, 4 daughters, Twila Smith, Teresa Smith, Marcia Fixico, and Lisa Turvey and husband Bradley Turvey. 1 son, Wesley Earl Smith and wife Tommie, 9 grandsons, Cody Howard and wife Michele, Chris Howard, Jeremy Kolakawski, Dustin Kolakawski, Billy Fixico, Charles T. Joseph 'Randy' Sport - June 18, 1951 - March 22, 2024

Departed: 03/22/2024 (Sapulpa)
Obituary Preview: Joseph “Randy” Sport, 72, of Sapulpa, passed from this life March 22, 2024, at his home. He was born June 18, 1951 to the late William Sport and Nell Osborne. Randy met the love of his life, Jeannie, when he was 26 and she was 17. They were later married on June 29, 1980. Randy worked diligently as a carpenter for many years. He also loved to fish, play his guitar, but most importantly, he loved to spend time with his family. Randy was immensely proud of his family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. Randy was a man who lived his life full of gratitude and had an unceasing faith in the Lord. A Bible verse he often quoted and lived by was Psalm 118:24 which says, “This is the day that the Lord has made; we shall rejoice and be glad in it”. He was a walking example of this verse by the way he lived his life, thankful for each day he had breath in his lungs. His heart for others was admirable, he would’ve given you the shirt off his back had you needed it. Randy touched so many lives and is loved by many. He will be dearly missed. We get to celebrate his life knowing that he was welcomed through the gates of Heaven, greeted by the Lord and by loved ones who’d gone on before him. Randy is survived by his wife Jeannie; his children Jason Sport and Tiffany of Claremore, Jessica and Adam Barrow of Broken Arrow, Jackie and Kevin Warburton of Roland, Jason and Stephanie Riggs of Roland, and Angela Sport of Alabama. As well as his grandchildren, Gabrielle, MacKenzie, Brooklyn, Jaxon, Kiley, Braylon, Caydon, Addiley, Chloe, Gabriel, Colton, Miranda, Garrett, Brayden, Ben and Ethan. He also leaves behind his sister, Sandi Baskette of Roland, and Samuel Osborne of Roland. He was preceded in death by his parents; Nell and Bill Osborne, William and Mildred Sport, his sister, Denise Osborne, and his brother Joe Sport. Though we are mourning losing him on this side of Heaven, we are endlessly rejoicing knowing he is standing before the Lord in the fullness of His glory.

Michael Reiland - June 04, 1978 - March 13, 2024

Departed: 03/13/2024 (Sapulpa)
Obituary Preview: In the vast MMORPG of life, Michael Douglas Reiland, logged out for the last time on March 13th, 2024. Born to the Earth realm on June 4th, 1978, Mike embarked on an epic quest that lasted 45 remarkable levels. With his initial spawn point in Oklahoma, he quickly leveled up, mastering the arts of football and coding. While his high school years centered mostly around football, dominating his opponents with strength and intellect, it was here that his love for all things technology was born. His competitiveness became apparent early on when he would commandeer his brothers’ controllers so that he would be the first to defeat Ganon, Bowser, and Sephiroth. For the same reason his opponents on the field collapsed before him, his brothers also relented. No harm, though, as his brothers likely wouldn’t have defeated them anyway. After multiple stat increases in Strength, Agility, and Intellect, Mike’s prowess on the field was recognized by Northeastern State University where they begged him to wreak havoc against their opponents too. He then switched guilds from the Westville Yellowjackets to the NSU Redmen and off he went, full steam ahead. Little did they know, Mike’s pursuits were always intellectual, and his love of the gridiron fell just as so many opponents before him did. Leaving football behind, Mike focused all his attention on his studies, and when he wasn’t studying, he was teaching himself how to become the best developer out there. As per usual, his stats in Intellect skyrocketed and he received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science & Math from NSU. To Mike, the degree was just a formality – the true worth of a developer came from securing freelance contracts, which he did. He followed his passion and became a Software Developer for over twenty levels. By day, Mike would pound away at his keyboard, producing software to better the lives of the plebs, but by night, he would teleport himself into the world of Azeroth, taking the form of a Tauren known as Rvalue. Rvalue was known not just for his skill in battle but also for his epic dance moves at the Stormwind bank. His “Audacity” guildmates knew him as a fearless leader, one who would charge into battle with the battle cry, "Leeeroooooy Jenkins," paying homage to a loner with more courage than brains. But while caring for his guildmates, Rvalue fell for a Pandaren monk named Litai. Rvalue and Litai became an inseparable force in Azeroth, hanging their feet over the bridges of Darnassus or admiring the Native American art within Thunder Bluff. Finding this questing partner worthy of the great and mighty Rvalue, he used his coding skills and Intellect to uncover the art of transmogrification to bring Litai to him in the Earth realm. Her character name on Earth turned out to be Hilary Touchet, the keeper of his heart! Mike and Hilary continued questing in Tulsa, Oklahoma for another twelve levels. Mike is survived by his first-ever guildmates, which include his mother, Kathy Thornton, the matriarch of their clan; brothers, Christopher and Timothy Reiland, his loyal allies in every side quest; and his long-term companion, Hilary Touchet. While Mike often quested on a private map, he still touched the hearts and lives of many. So, here’s to Mike, an enigma to many and a close ally and protector to anyone who needed his help. May his stealth mode inspire us to cherish all of the private victories and to remember that in the great MMORPG of life, sometimes the most memorable and effective players are the ones we know the least about, yet feel like we’ve adventured with the most. Farewell, Rvalue. In the world’s leaderboard of lives well-played, you’ve earned your spot among the legends. Services are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home at 1208 S. What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It may also include information about their surviving family members, funeral or memorial services, and any charitable donations in their memory.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a sense of closure and help to celebrate the life of the deceased.

Who typically writes an obituary?

In most cases, the obituary is written by a family member or close friend of the deceased. However, it can also be written by a funeral home or a professional obituary writer.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include information about funeral or memorial services, burial arrangements, and any charitable donations in their memory.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication and the individual's life story. Typically, it ranges from a few sentences to several paragraphs.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a nice way to personalize the tribute and make it more meaningful.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or online publication?

You can usually submit an obituary through the publication's website or by contacting their obituary department directly. Be sure to follow their guidelines and deadlines for submission.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies depending on the publication and the length of the notice. Some newspapers and online platforms offer free or low-cost options, while others may charge a fee based on the number of words or lines.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary in advance as a way to have control over how they are remembered. This can be a unique opportunity for self-reflection and storytelling.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is typically a brief announcement of a person's passing, while an obituary provides more detailed information about their life and legacy.

How soon after a person's passing should an obituary be published?

The timing of publishing an obituary varies depending on cultural and personal preferences. In general, it's best to publish the obituary within a few days of the person's passing to ensure that friends and family are informed in a timely manner.

Can I include humor or anecdotes in an obituary?

Absolutely! An obituary is a celebration of the person's life, so feel free to include stories, quotes, or humorous moments that capture their personality and spirit.

What if I'm not comfortable writing an obituary myself?

If you're struggling to write an obituary, consider enlisting the help of a friend or family member who knew the deceased well. You can also hire a professional writer or seek guidance from a funeral home or bereavement counselor.

Can I publish an obituary online only?

Yes, many online platforms allow you to publish an obituary without printing it in a physical newspaper. This can be a cost-effective option and allows for wider reach and sharing capabilities.

How long will an online obituary remain available?

The duration of online availability varies depending on the platform. Some websites may keep the obituary online indefinitely, while others may remove it after a certain period of time.

Can I make corrections or updates to an already-published obituary?

In most cases, yes. Contact the publication or online platform where the obituary was published to request corrections or updates. Be prepared to provide documentation supporting the changes.

What if I want to keep the funeral or memorial service private?

You can still publish an obituary without including details about the funeral or memorial service. Simply omit this information or indicate that services will be private.

Can I include charitable donation information in an obituary?

Yes! Many families choose to include information about charitable donations in lieu of flowers as a way to honor their loved one's legacy.

How do I handle sensitive or complicated family dynamics when writing an obituary?

This can be a challenging situation. Consider seeking guidance from a trusted friend, family member, or bereavement counselor to help navigate these complexities with sensitivity and respect.

What if I need help finding information for an obituary?

You can gather information from various sources such as photo albums, scrapbooks, letters, diaries, and conversations with family members and friends. You can also consult with local historians or genealogists for assistance.

Can I use social media to share an obituary?

Absolutely! Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter can be effective ways to share news of a loved one's passing and reach a wider audience.

How do I ensure that an online obituary remains respectful and safe from unwanted comments?

Moderate comments carefully and consider setting up restrictions on who can leave comments. You can also report any inappropriate behavior to the platform administrators.

What if I want to create a memorial website or online tribute instead of publishing an obituary?

This is a wonderful idea! Online memorials can provide a lasting tribute to your loved one and allow friends and family to share memories and condolences in one place.
