Randy Loren Dangerfield - July 29, 1956 - August 15, 2022

Departed: 08/15/2022 (BILLINGS)
Obituary Preview: Randy Loren Dangerfield, beloved husband, father, “Papa,” brother, uncle and cousin lost a life-long fight with diabetes when he passed away in his sleep at his residence, the morning of August 15, 2022. It is with bittersweet relief to those that loved and cared for him that Randy has gone on to the great “hot rod show in the sky” to be with his parents and those who have passed before him. Randy was born in Elkhorn, Wisconsin on July 29, 1956. His parents, the late Gordy and Marge Dangerfield moved Randy and his siblings to Fargo, North Dakota in 1968 and finally settled the family in Billings, Montana in 1971. Randy’s siblings include, Reggie (Valerie) Dangerfield, Vicki (Steve) Wahrlich, Robin (Tracy) Dangerfield and Cindy Jo Dangerfield.
Following graduation from Billings Senior High School in 1974, Randy married Amy Marie Owens on December 6, 1975. Randy is survived by His wife and their 3 children, 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Randy attended Billings Vocational-Technical Center for diesel mechanics, indulging in a knack for wrenching and automobiles. Old colleagues may remember Randy from his positions at Billings’ Windmill Restaurant, Tom’s Conoco on 17th & Poly Drive, KB Chemical, and a long run in the parts department at Tractor & Equipment Company. In 1995, Randy started Affordable Appliance, and enjoyed opportunities to serve the community with his appliance repair and sales business. Fun-loving Randy may also be fondly remembered as a long-time member of the Yellowstone Dart Association, always preparing for the year’s Big Sky Open event. The United Partiers of America’s Annual Toga Extravaganza could always count on Randy’s supply of good times at one of Montana’s wildest summer gatherings.
Each of Randy’s children and grandchildren most likely had a turn joining Randy in his blue Chevy pick-up, making trips through town to help load and deliver the heavy appliances, or to go scrapping when he would let the grandchildren keep the cash. Often a breakfast of Hardee’s biscuits and gravy would start the day, the restaurant may have ultimately regretted offering Randy’s large crew free refills. Lunch would be had at a local buffet where children and grandchildren would delight in his indulgences of all-you-can-eat favorites. Randy indulged his granddaughters’ almost daily request for fast-food delivery to the high school parking lot, because they asked so sweetly.
Randy can also be remembered for morning newspaper retrieval, still in his jammies. His kids failed many times to sneak away his favorite Ranger Rick hat, which he wore daily. Cut-off, too-short, Levis jean shorts were also a signature look from Randy, along with an oversized jug of Diet Mountain Dew usually in-hand. Randy loved spoiling his grandchildren with Dum-Dums lollipops, Taco Treat trips, Farmer’s Market Saturdays, and Christmas packages of socks, oranges, and cheeseballs each year. Getting back home to build grandson, Kammeron Jr. a potion table was Randy’s biggest motivation to recover his health. Along with cheering on his daughter when she was drag-racing, Randy loved cruising in the different classic cars he owned; a ’68 Pontiac GTO convertible, his ’68 Caprice Classic and the ’69 Chevy Chevelle. The lucky ones might have also have seen him “racing” his ’93 Chevy Geo with the “sprint-car-wings.” Randy is survived by his 3 children and their families, listed below: Kristina Dangerfield (Jermaine) • Sherae (Wyatt) Martinson o Rhys • Alyssa (Tim) Williams o Brecken • Tiffany Kerry Dangerfield (Sahmahrah) • Emily • Jasmine Dangerfield • Bailey (Isaac) Hammer • Cecelia Kammeron (Amber) Dangerfield • Taylor Brennan • Quintrell (Madi) McCalister
• Kammeron Jr.
Randy is also survived by several cousins, nephews and nieces who will miss his jovial spirit and jolly heart dearly.

Donald Dean Miller - September 06, 1932 - August 02, 2022

Departed: 08/02/2022 (BILLINGS)
Obituary Preview: Donald Dean Miller passed away peacefully on August 2, 2022 at RiverStone Health Hospice Home. Don was born September 6, 1932 in Laurel to Peter and Frieda Miller. Following graduation from Laurel High School in 1950, Don attended Eastern Montana College in Billings for a short while until entering the United States Navy in March 1952 and proudly serving until February 1956.
While stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas, Don attended a dance where he met a beautiful and very sweet southern lady, Shirley Jones, who swept him off his feet. Don and Shirley married in 1955 and celebrated over 56 years of marriage together until Shirley’s passing in 2011.
Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Don and Shirley returned to Laurel where they made their home for the rest of their lives…despite Shirley frequently reminding him over the years that she was just visiting Montana and fully intended to move back to Texas one day. Don and Shirley enjoyed many years of camping on the Boulder River, bowling, and golfing together. Don was a very talented athlete in school, excelling in football and basketball. Because of his love for sports, it was fitting that he went on to referee both football and basketball for many years and was awarded life membership in the Montana Officials Association in 1969. Along with his years of officiating came a love for taking in all kinds of sporting events. Many fond memories were made over the years following the Laurel Locomotives and traveling to numerous state basketball tournaments. He was a lifelong New York Yankees fan, rarely missing a game on TV, as well as a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys…many games were “coached” by dad through the TV over the years, and several team managers got fired along the way, too. He also enjoyed following the Montana State Bobcats and was able to attend several of their football games over the last several years…he especially enjoyed tailgating with the Holzheimers and when the Cats prevailed over the Griz!
In his later years, Don was blessed to have his youngest daughter, Shelli, living with him at the family home. He very much looked forward to their Friday “howling” nights and was always very ready, willing and able to go…anywhere! He always wanted to know, “what’s on the agenda next?” and looked forward to getting out for happy hour. He was known for his quick wit, sense of humor and an occasional exaggerated story.
Don was the youngest as well as last surviving sibling of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Shirley, his sisters Essye (Chuck) McGuinn of Seattle, Virginia (Fred) Harkin and Dorothy (Virel) Guinn of Laurel, and brother Howard (Sally) Miller of Havre. He is survived by his daughters Terri (Jim) Mourich and Sherri (Dale) Holzheimer of Billings and Shelli Ritz of Laurel. He is also survived by grandchildren Donielle Mourich (McKenna & Elliot), Samantha (Mitchell) Kiven (Sacha), Brandon Mourich, Chelsie (Israel) Guilford (Malachi & Silas), and Carli (Weston) Molter (Mason & Logan) and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of RiverStone Health Hospice Home for the very special care received during dad’s final weeks of life.
Don was a special father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. We know he was anxious to reunite with mom in heaven and feel truly blessed to have had such wonderful, loving parents.
Memorials are suggested to RiverStone Health Hospice, 123 S. 27th Street, Billings, MT 59101 or First Congregational Church, PO Box 995, Laurel, MT 59044.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 8 at 10:30 am at First Congregational Church of Laurel, 506 S. 5th Street.

Thomas Leroy Vandersloot - February 18, 1937 - August 01, 2022

Departed: 08/01/2022 (BILLINGS)
Obituary Preview: Thomas Leroy Vandersloot, 85, of Billings, MT passed away on August 1, 2022, at Riverstone Hospice Home surrounded by family. He was born on February 18, 1937 in Hardin, MT to Lambert and Katherine Feller Vandersloot. He was the youngest of four siblings. He attended school in St. Xavier and Hardin, MT. Thomas served in the US Army and spent two years in Korea before being honorably discharged. Sept 17, 1960, he married the love of his life, Shirley Marie Cormier in St. Xavier, MT. Of this union came 3 rambunctious boys, Thomas Scott, Joseph Todd and Perry John.
He had various jobs until he started as a Jack of all trades at the Farmers Union in Hardin. He did such a good job that he became the manager. In 1977 Tom & Shirley decided to take on business ownership and bought the O’Haire Manor Motel in Shelby where they worked side by side for a number of years. After moving to Billings, Tom thoroughly enjoyed his time working for the City of Billings. He was a devout member of the Catholic Church and a 4th degree Knight of Columbus.
Of all Tom’s most favorite things (besides Shirley and the boys), he adored all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Traveling, meeting new people and telling new stories was something he thoroughly enjoyed. Tom and Shirley had a habit of changing RV’s to the tune of 20 in his lifetime, but they all made some wonderful memories that are frequently reminisced about. Some of his other favorite things were Fast Break candy bars, Rice Krispie Treats, Ice Cream and all things chocolate! We used to kid him about the “stash” of Rice Krispie Treats he would come home with when he would get out of the hospital. His quick wit and sense of humor were in tact all the way until the end. Two days before he passed, he apparently decided he was going to be awake and greet three of his great grandkids. His birthday buddy and oldest grandchild Alyssa, hit her knee on his hospital bed. Papa didn’t miss a beat when he threw out to her “betcha that hurt”, which caused some serious laughter. We are so incredibly grateful for this memory that was made in his last days.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Lambert and Katherine and his siblings Bert Vandersloot, Lucille Soltez and Dorothy Miner.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley, sons Thomas Scott (Suzy), Joseph Todd (Pam), Perry John (Janet), his grandchildren, Katie Fyfe (Lance), Samantha Vandersloot (Tyson), Emily Johnson (Justin), Casey Vandersloot, Cody Vandersloot, Cassandra Wermann (Bryce), Alyssa Vandersloot, Levi Vandersloot (Lindsay) and his 11 great grandchildren with #12 on the way.
There will be a viewing at 11:00 a.m on Friday, August 5th followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Smith’s Funeral Chapel, 304 34th St W, Billings, MT. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. the VA Yellowstone National Cemetery at 55 Buffalo Trail Road, Laurel, MT. There will be a reception immediately after burial at the OCAW Union Hall, 1009 E. 6th Street in Laurel. Please join us to celebrate Tom’s life.

Camden Boyce Brown - May 27, 2021 - July 21, 2022

Departed: 07/21/2022 (BILLINGS)
Obituary Preview: Camden Boyce Brown arrived on this earth May 27, 2021, in Billings, Mont. It didn’t matter he was three weeks earlier than expected. His parents, Logan Brown and Mattie Murphy, had everything in place and were ready to love, adore, and spoil this sweet gift. And that is what they did until his unexpected passing July 21, 2022.
From day one, everyone knew this kid was special. People of all ages, even those who claimed not to like kids, were captivated by him. There was just a glow about Camden that made everything around him better.
His full head of curly, brown hair; gorgeous blue eyes; and forever-long lashes captured the attention of countless strangers who would stop to affirm what the family already knew: he was a beautiful little man.
Camden was never fussy and would go down easily for naps and bedtime. He would lie down kicking a foot and scratching his belly, then eventually resting for the night with his butt in the air. As soon as the sun was up, so was he, as though he had no time to waste. Camden was always on the move.
When Camden did want to cry, he could quickly be talked out of it. Make no mistake, he wasn’t a quiet kid. He was always making noise at top volume. When his vast fan club cheered his accomplishments, he cheered for himself louder. His words included ‘Mama’, “Dada’, ‘NoNoNo’, and ‘BahBah’.
Mornings started with a cuddle with mom while watching Bluey videos and the ‘BahBah’ filled with milk. Those close to Camden speculate he could drink more milk than a grown man.
As mom worked from home, Camden would frequently make guest appearances on Zoom meetings or flip off the power switch to her computer. He knew what he was doing.
This mischievous little boy was smart as a whip and often sported a grin and a giggle as he ventured to attempt what he knew to be a ‘NoNoNo’. That smile was contagious.
A highlight of each day was FaceTime calls with family. Cam would squeal with joy at seeing Grandma She She and on Tuesdays he was filled with love from Grandma Pam and Papa. Grampa Matt would stop everything even if it was simply to watch Camden play, eat, or sleep. Aunt Kaela got her FaceTime in on lunch breaks when she loved to push a Cheeto into the screen to see if Camden would take a bite.
And Camden excelled at biting. He was good at pretending he wasn’t going to, perhaps this time he was just moving in for a little open mouth kiss, but no. He could be counted on to take a good, strong gnaw in the blink of an eye.
Camden was always super excited when dad got home. “I’m gonna get you,” was their favorite game. Camden would scream and giggle as dad chased him around the furniture. Neither of them could get enough.
Dinner was always at the table for this family of three. Camden was usually done eating by the time Mattie had dinner on, but Camden was content to sit in the highchair watching the two people he loved the very, very most finish their meal.
Camden did love mealtime. Perhaps that is best reflected in him achieving the 98th percentile in everything, except height, where he ranked in the 17th. Noodles, yogurt, and baked beans were among the favorites, though no one is sure there was a food he didn’t like. He would dramatically move his eyebrows to convey his suspicion of new foods, while his chubby little fingers pushed bite after bite into his mouth.
Rumor has it, Camden ate more than his share of dog food, too. There is no denying he often smelled like such and having to dig kibble out of his cheeks was quite common.
His love of dog food didn’t compare to his love of the family’s four dogs. It can’t be said they felt the same about him, though. He loved watching those dogs and grabbing for them, too. He also loved sneaking to the dog water and dumping it over the floor.
Despite epic diaper blowouts (sorry Papa) and epic puking, the love for Camden could not be deterred. Those who knew him could never get enough of him. This kid loved hard. His curiosity about people bordered on being nosey. But he just loved people. He loved watching the kids at his daycare, people at Walmart, and even the hippie dude playing a guitar on Helena’s walking mall Camden’s last night on earth. No one was a stranger to be feared.
It’s commonly suspected that Camden was Great Grandma Jude’s favorite. She wanted new photos of him every day, and she was proud to show them off. Grandma Jude left for Heaven just one day before Camden. We can only hope Heaven is ready for these two and the fun about to ensue.
To capture on paper all of Camden and his big life is impossible; his fascination with the fish dad caught weeks ago at Fort Peck; ‘driving’ a boat on the 4th of July; that annoying song, “Five little ducks” on repeat; every tubby time ending with most the bath water on the floor and everyone in proximity.
This busy, beautiful little boy is leaving behind so many shattered hearts who can’t wait to be with him again. They include his parents, Logan Brown and Mattie Murphy. His Grandparents: Sheila Mondloch, Pam Brown (Albert Contreras), Matt (Shelley) Murphy and Great Grandma GT. His Aunt Kaela Murphy, Uncles Luke Murphy, Drew and Kian Brown. Loving family and friends also include Steffan Martinez, Tony Contreras, the Stovall kids, Casey Waldhauser, Matt (Joselynn) Bailey, Chase Brown, Ross Hudson, Schelby (Justin) Smith, the entire Mondloch and Brown families and so many more who shared their love with Cam.
Cam was greeted at heaven’s gate by his Great Grandmas’ Jude Murphy and Opal Brown.

Susie Dianne Bentley - December 30, 1950 - July 15, 2022

Departed: 07/15/2022 (BILLINGS)
Obituary Preview: Susie Dianne Bentley (or Sue, but not Susan), who always looked on the bright side of life, passed from this world suddenly on July 15, 2022, at the age of 71. Susie died as she had lived; hand-in-hand with her beloved husband Steve, in their house she loved in Laurel, MT.
Susie was born in Glendale, Southern California in 1950, and her parents Kenneth and Lucille Morrison began instilling in her a love of nature and adventure from the very beginning. As a family they explored the trails and lakes of the Sierra Nevada, with Susie often trailing behind her dad and older sister Jeannie to examine every little thing that caught her attention, occasionally resulting in mischief, such as the time her Dad picked her up during a hike and said "she's getting heavy!", only to later discover that Susie had been loading her pockets with rocks she'd found too enticing to leave where they were.
Susie met Steve at the church youth group while working towards her BA in Education at Fullerton College; the two quickly fell in love, and both being hopeless romantics, they married on Valentine's Day in 1975. Susie was a wonderfully supportive, encouraging, and infinitely patient mother to 2 sons - Matthew and Timothy, whom she raised with pride and fierce love. She braved the terrors of being a Cub Scout den mother, endured rain, sleet, and snow to attend every sporting event, nurtured their love of reading and learning, and basically adopted their friends as her own; Susie had love to spare for everyone in her life and the lives of those important to her. Susie even had love to spare for those she didn't know, as evidenced by her volunteer work on the Billings Presbyterian Church mission committee and at Tumbleweed Youth Center, and her regular sponsorship of children in need through Compassion International.
After escaping the oppressive Southern California climate (late night and early morning low clouds was not her idea of interesting weather), Susie and Steve lived for a brief time in Kittredge, CO before they settled in Gillette, WY. There they raised their sons, and Susie was a librarian at the Campbell County Public Library for many years working in the children's section, where a great joy of hers was reading books to the children. She battled dyslexia, which she said made it easier to read upside down while showing the book's pictures to the kids. Her inherent understanding of learning disabilities and her patience were skillfully applied in her later career as a Special Education teacher, at Campbell County High School and several elementary schools in Gillette. Susie was an exceptional teacher, and aside from masterfully teaching her students with dedication and compassion, she mentored many aspiring teachers, some of whom have reached out to the family to let us know how important she was in their career paths. Susie was also a skilled artist and artisan of so many things. She loved photography and had a great eye for nature and capturing the perfect moment. Her photography grew into other creations such as greeting cards, and she also began making picture frames; she loved decorating them with accoutrements such as shells, flowers, and coins - they all, like her, were one-of-a-kind and special. Susie could sew anything - including many of her own dresses and purses (and plenty for others as well) and enjoyed passing the love of sewing down to her Granddaughter Chloe. She also loved cooking and baking, always trying out recipes and discovering new favorites for herself and her family. Susie considered bananas disgusting, the smell, the taste, and the texture, but would still make Steve banana pudding on special occasions - now that's love!
Susie and Steve traveled the world together, frequently visiting Europe, South America, and the Caribbean, as well as exploring the Unites States. They had a list of the best ice cream shops in the world, and they visited as many as possible. Susie was fearless on these travels, often wandering by herself into areas that maybe tourists shouldn't go.
Most recently, Susie has been playing Mrs. Claus to Steve's Santa, volunteering with Toys for Tots every Christmas to collect toys for local children and comforting the young ones who are a little scared of Santa - she never went anywhere without a candy cane or peppermint to give to children who bumped into Santa.
Susie is survived by her husband Steve, her son Timothy, her mother Lucille Morrison of Jackson, California, her sister Jeannie Vodden, and grandchildren Natasha, Sasha, and Chloe. She was greeted at heaven's gates by her father Kenneth, her son Matthew, and her parents in-law Keith and Valerie Bentley.
A funeral service is scheduled for 3 pm on July 25, 2022, at the First Presbyterian Church of Billings. There will also be a memorial service on August 4th at 11 AM at Sutter Creek United Methodist Church near Jackson, CA, where her mother and sister reside. Susie loved flowers but she loved people more, so in lieu of flowers, she would be delighted if you donated to YWAM Madison (Youth With A Mission) - please specify "Donation to Natasha Bentley", Toys for Tots, or Billings Family Service on her behalf.
