Franklin D. Fox Sr. - October 18, 1933 - March 22, 2022

Departed: 03/22/2022 (Hampton)
Obituary Preview: Franklin Delano Fox, Sr affectionately known to his family as "Roe", left this earth for his heavenly home on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at the age of 88. He was born on October 18, 1933 in Oyster Point, Newport News, VA to the late Robert Edward Fox and Estelle Cary Fox. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Marie H. Fox, his brothers Edward R. Fox, Albert (Bubba) Fox, and Gene R. Fox along with his sister Edith V. Fox Eley.
Franklin completed high school and soon after joined the United States Air Force where he served for over 2 years. He chose to leave the military early for personal reasons, but was very proud of his time in the service. He often said "You can't go wrong in the military" to his own kids. After the military, he began working in the shipyard. In the shipyard, he worked scaffolding and sheet metal. Again, what he learned and practiced he carried through life. He was proud of his title "sheet metal man" and often used his craft in home projects. His last job was working for the U.S. Postal Service. Unfortunately, he suffered not one but two back injuries on the job, which led to him leaving on workman's compensation. The injuries were the cause of his back surgeries, which ultimately led to his lack of mobility and multiple spinal cord issues. Even without the full use of his legs and hand, he remained an independent man until his earthly journey ended.
Franklin always exhibited faith, strength, the unmatched skill of stretching a dollar and the capability to mess up a name. His unique ability to fix any household appliance with electrical tape or string will be missed. Although he wasn't a mechanic, he was passionate about cars and among his family was known as an expert advisor on car repairs. In his younger days he was known to at least attempt any repair, often with success, but not always. Throughout his life he was an supporter of his church, charity, and his family both immediate and extended. To meet him was to have an easy conversation with a man who only saw you as an equal and was known to assist before being asked. He went by many titles such as Frank, Roe, Dad, Pop, Grandpa, Uncle Frank, Uncle Roe, Mr. Fox. He could always be counted on for the honest truth, (even if you were not ready to hear it), solid advice, a forgiving and helpful hand, and the willingness and strength to fight what he perceived as an injustice.
He will be survived by his remaining sister, Juanita Wilson; his children Franklin D. Fox, Jr. (BJ), Rodney L. Fox, LaDonne R. Fox, James L. Fox (LaGreta), Jeffrey A. Fox (Tanya), and Darryl T. Fox (Alissa); the grandfather of Kenneth Lytle, Natasha Fountain, Antonio Lytle, Justin Wright, Kimberly Brooks,  Delano Fox, Denisha Fox, Darryl Fox, Tyrell Fox, and Trenton Fox; and great grandfather of 12 children along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.

Jeffrey Arnold Saunders - April 15, 1967 - March 19, 2022

Departed: 03/19/2022 (Hampton)
Obituary Preview: Jeffrey Arnold Saunders was born on April 15,1967, to the late Jerry Allen and Gloria Jean Delaney (Cookie), in James City County, Williamsburg, VA. He transitioned to eternal life to be with the LORD GOD, on March 19,2022, at Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton, VA.
Jeff graduated from Lafayette High School in Williamsburg, VA. And entered the United States Navy.  As with every task, Jeff thrived and was the recipient of the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Navy “E”, and Marksman M16A1 Rifle awards as he served as an Electrical/Mechanical Equipment Repairman.
Jeff loved life!  He was always willing to help anyone that asked and would give you the shirt off his back just to make sure you were happy.  He enjoyed all the time he spent with family, riding to Buckroe Beach “people watching” and driving down Mercury Blvd, just so he could show you all the local spots!  When he knew that his niece, “Kyndal” was coming he would make preparations to have “ribs” on the grill for her, because she loved the way he fixed them.  We would laugh until we had tears in our eyes talking about the old days, and the new days to come.  Like when he was younger, he would jump up and down on the sofa and say, “I’m black and I’m proud, say it LOUDER NOW!”  From the very beginning of life, he loved music, dancing, and fast cars!  When we would visit, all he wanted you to do, was take him to the grocery store to pick up a few items and to make sure he had cigarettes and a cold one before you left.  Because of his big heart, warm smile, and his humble Spirit, we would give him a few extra bucks to put in his pocket, because he was the type of person that would never ask for it.
Although Jeff never married, he loved looking for a “wife.” Whether he was a t the Buckroe Beach in Hampton or at Beth’el Baptist Church in Bowling Green, VA, he would ask about the women just to see who was available so that he wouldn’t step on anyone’s toes, but also checking on how much baggage they would come with so he could decide if he should pursue her.  He “loved people”, but he knew when it was more baggage than he wanted to take on in a relationship, so he would just wait until the next one came by.
Jeff leave behind to cherish his memory his son, Derrick Jeffrey Reger (Rhode Island), his brother, Troy Orell Delaney (Melissa), and his sister, Leslie Arnette Wright (Curtis) and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, cousins, friends, and the caring staff at the Hampton VA Medical Center.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community members of the passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and remember the deceased, while also providing essential information to those who need to know about the passing. They help to notify people of the funeral or memorial service details, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences to the grieving family.

What information is typically included in an obituary?

A standard obituary usually includes the deceased person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include funeral or memorial service details, charity information, and any other relevant information the family wishes to share.

Who writes an obituary?

In most cases, the family of the deceased writes the obituary with the assistance of a funeral home or obituary writer. The family provides the necessary information, and the writer helps to craft a well-written and respectful tribute to the deceased.

How long does it take to write an obituary?

The time it takes to write an obituary can vary depending on the complexity and length of the tribute. On average, it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours to gather information and write a well-crafted obituary.
